• Unable to implement JMS using ApacheMQ

  Iam trying to implement a simple JMS code in eclipse using ApacheMQ. I have downloaded the ApacheMQ from apache.org and sample JMS sender from SimpleQueueSender and receiver from SimpleQueueReceiver respectively. Now how should i execute this code? I have already gone through all related tutorials but couldnot find answers to these questions. • Strange behaviour of NSScanner on simple whitespace removal

  I'm trying to replace all multiple whitespace in some text with a single space. This should be a very simple task, however for some reason it's returning a different result than expected. I've read the docs on the NSScanner and it seems like it's not working properly! NSScanner *scanner = [[NSScanner alloc] initWithString:@"This is a test of NSScanner !"]; NSMutableString *result = [[NSMutableString alloc] init]; NSString *temp; NSCharacterSet *whitespace = [NSCharacterSet whitespaceCharacterSet]; while (![scanner isAtEnd]) { // Scan upto and stop before any whitespace [scanner scanUpToCharactersFromSet:whitespace intoString:&temp]; // Add all non whotespace characters to string [result appendString:temp]; // Scan past all whitespace and replace with a single space if ([scanner scanCharactersFromSet:whitespace intoString:NULL]) { [result appendString:@" "]; } } But for some reason the result is @"ThisisatestofNSScanner!" instead of @"This is a test of NSScanner !". If you read through the comments and what each line should achieve it seems simple enough!? scanUpToCharactersFromSet should stop the scanner just as it encounters whitespace. scanCharactersFromSet should then progress the scanner past the whitespace up to the non-whitespace characters. And then the loop continues to the end. What am I missing or not understanding?

  I have a controller with two actions: [AcceptVerbs("GET")] public ActionResult Add() { PrepareViewDataForAddAction(); return View(); } [AcceptVerbs("POST")] public ActionResult Add([GigBinderAttribute]Gig gig, FormCollection formCollection) { if (ViewData.ModelState.IsValid) { GigManager.Save(gig); return RedirectToAction("Index", gig.ID); } PrepareViewDataForAddAction(); return View(gig); } As you can see, when the form posts its data, the Add action uses a GigBinder (An implemenation of IModelBinder) In this binder I have: if (int.TryParse(bindingContext.HttpContext.Request.Form["StartDate.Hour"], out hour)) { gig.StartDate.Hour = hour; } else { bindingContext.ModelState.AddModelError("Doors", "You need to tell us when the doors open"); } The form contains a text box with id "StartDate.Hour". As you can see above, the GigBinder tests to see that the user has typed in an integer into the textbox with id "StartDate.Hour". If not, a model error is added to the modelstate using AddModelError. Since the gigs property gigs.StartDate.Hour is strongly typed, I cannot set its value to, for example, "TEST" if the user has typed this into the forms textbox. Hence, I cant set the value of gigs.StartDate.Hour since the user has entered a string rather than an integer. Since the Add Action returns the view and passes the model (return View(gig);) if the modelstate is invalid, when the form is re-displayed with validation mssages, the value "TEST" is not displayed in the textbox. Instead, it will be the default value of gig.StartDate.Hour. How do I get round this problem? I really stuck!

• PHP gettext on Windows

  There's some tutorials out there for gettext (w/ Poedit)... unfortunately, it's mostly for a UNIX environment. And even more unfortunate is that I am running my WAMP server on Windows XP (but I am developing for a UNIX environment) and none of the tutorials can get gettext working properly for me. From the man page (http://us3.php.net/manual/en/book.gettext.php), it appears that it's a different process on a Windows environment. I've tried out some of the solutions in the comments but I still can't get it to work! Please, I've spent many hours on this, hopefully someone can point me in the right direction to get this thing to work! (and I'm sure there are others out there who share my frustration). So far with my setup, I'm only getting output "Hello World!" whereas I should be getting the translated string. • Google AppEngine + Local JUnit Tests + Jersey framework + Embedded Jetty

  I use Google Appengine for Java (GAE/J). On top, I use the Jersey REST-framework. Now i want to run local JUnit tests. The test sets up the local GAE development environment ( http://code.google.com/appengine/docs/java/tools/localunittesting.html ), launches an embedded Jetty server, and then fires requests to the server via HTTP and checks responses. Unfortunately, the Jersey/Jetty combo spawns new threads. GAE expects only one thread to run. In the end, I end up having either no datstore inside the Jersey-resources or multiple, having different datastore. As a workaround I initialise the GAE local env only once, put it in a static variable and inside the GAE resource I add many checks (This threads has no dev env? Re-use the static one). And these checks should of course only run inside JUnit tests.. (which I asked before: "How can I find out if code is running inside a JUnit test or not?" - I'm not allowed to post the link directly here :-|)

• Using reflection to find all linq2sql tables and ensure they match the database

  I'm trying to use reflection to automatically test that all my linq2sql entities match the test database. I thought I'd do this by getting all the classes that inherit from DataContext from my assembly: var contexttypes = Assembly.GetAssembly(typeof (BaseRepository<,>)).GetTypes().Where( t => t.IsSubclassOf(typeof(DataContext))); foreach (var contexttype in contexttypes) { var context = Activator.CreateInstance(contexttype); var tableProperties = type.GetProperties().Where(t=> t.PropertyType.Name == typeof(ITable<>).Name); foreach (var propertyInfo in tableProperties) { var table = (propertyInfo.GetValue(context, null)); } } So far so good, this loops through each ITable< in each datacontext in the project. If I debug the code, "table" is properly instantiated, and if I expand the results view in the debugger I can see actual data. BUT, I can't figure out how to get my code to actually query that table. I'd really like to just be able to do table.FirstOrDefault() to get the top row out of each table and make sure the SQL fetch doesn't fail. But I cant cast that table to be anything I can query. Any suggestions on how I can make this queryable? Just the ability to call .Count() would be enough for me to ensure the entities don't have anything that doesn't match the table columns.

• Objective C map view delegate viewForAnnotation for MKAnnotation gets just called after click

  I have a simple Map view. It has a method -(void)loadAndDisplayPois{ NSLog(@"loadAndDisplayPois"); if(mapView.annotations.count > 0) [mapView removeAnnotations:mapView.annotations]; self.pois = [self loadPoisFromDatabase]; NSLog(@"self.pois.count: %i", self.pois.count); [mapView addAnnotations:self.pois]; NSLog(@"mapView.annotations.count: %i",mapView.annotations.count);} This method gets called, and I am sure that the method gets called because of the Log, after I downloaded data and saved it into the database. The class which handles the download executes after saving the data to the database [self.senderObj performSelector:@selector(loadAndDisplayPois)]; Where senderObj is the MapViewControlller. The count Log from the pois array shows 4 after the first time I clicked. But no Annotations on the view, because viewForAnnotation is not called (one Annotation in the array ( my current position)). After I execute the method again by clicking a TEST button shows everything on the map. The viewForAnnotation method gets called after viewWillAppear and after I clicked the TEST button. It is driving me nuts since 2 days. I cant anymore ...

• NullPointerException on Activity Testing Tutorial

  Hello, I am currently trying the activity testing tutorial (Found here), and have a problem. It seems that whenever I try to call something inside the UIThread, I get a java.lang.NullPointerException. public void testSpinnerUI() { mActivity.runOnUiThread( new Runnable() { public void run() { mSpinner.requestFocus(); } }); } This gives me: Incomplete: java.lang.NullPointerException and nothing else. I have tried this on two different samples now, with the same result. I tried with a try/catch clause around the mSpinner.requestFocus() call, and it seems that mSpinner is null inside the thread. I have set it properly up with the setUp() function found in the same sample, and a quick assertNotNull( mSpinner ) shows me that mSpinner is in fact not null after the setUp() function. What can be the cause of this? EDIT; ok, some more testing has been done. It seems that the application that is being tested resets between each test. This essentially makes me have to reinstantiate all variables between each test. Is this normal?

  I am currently implementing my own persistence layer for orbeon forms. As far as I have understood the virtual hierachy of data, creating a form with form builder in the application "myapp" with the name "myform" should cause the form builder to call /crud/myapp/myform/form/form.xhtml, passing the newly created form as HTTP-PUT data. Thus I created a spring method annotated with: @RequestMapping(method = RequestMethod.PUT, value = "/crud/{applicationName}/{formName}/form/form.xhtml") public void saveForm(@PathVariable String formName, @RequestBody String putData) I expected this method to be called with my form. But this method does not get called. Instead the method @RequestMapping(method = RequestMethod.PUT, value = "/crud/{applicationName}/{formName}/data/{uuid}/data.xml") public void saveInstance(@PathVariable String uuid, @RequestBody String putData) gets called. Put data contains the full xhtml form. Why is this happening? I thought that the second URL would only be called for saving an instance, more specifically the <xforms:instance id="fr-form-instance"> part of a form, once I fill in values for a form.

I've followed the author's advice to the letter, but it doesn't seem like any of the script I add to my background page is being executed at all.   I am using Entity Framework for the first time and noticed that the entities object returns entity collections. Do both ObjectSet and EntityCollection implement IQueryable? I am hoping they do so that I know the queries are getting executed at the data source and not in memory. EDIT: So apparently EntityCollection does not while ObjectSet does. Does that mean I would be better off using this code? • How can I spec out an authlogic sessions controller using using a stub?

  I want to test my User Session Controller testing that a user session is first built then saved. My UserSession class looks like this: class UserSession < Authlogic::Session::Base end The create method of my UserSessionsController looks like this: def create @user_session = UserSession.new(params[:user_session]) if @user_session.save flash[:notice] = "Successfully logged in." redirect_back_or_default administer_home_page_url else render :new end end and my controller spec looks like this: describe UserSessionsController do it "should build a new user session" do UserSession.stub!(:new).with(:email, :password) UserSession.should_receive(:new).with(:email => "[email protected]", :password => "foobar") post :create, :user_session => { :email => "[email protected]", :password => "foobar" } end end I stub out the new method but I still get the following error when I run the test: Spec::Mocks::MockExpectationError in 'UserSessionsController should build a new user session' <UserSession (class)> received :new with unexpected arguments expected: ({:password=>"foobar", :email=>"[email protected]"}) got: ({:priority_record=>nil}, nil) It's although the new method is being called on UserSession before my controller code is getting called. Calling activate_authlogic makes no difference.

• C# .NET Controls for docked tool windows?

  I was using Qt with C++ to develop my GUI applications, but I have recently switched to try out C# .NET as it is much easier to do what I need to. I was wondering what controls I need to be using for a few things and if they exist for C# .NET or if I need to do something custom/special. If you look in that screenshot, I want to do something similar to how they have each tool window grouped into its own docking area with the option of closing it or breaking it out of the layout so it can be dragged. I am talking about the tool windows titled "Groups", "Resources", "Tools", etc. I also want to make these tool windows stay in the same place when the main window is resized. Qt has spring like widgets that will let you create a UI that keeps its shape when the window is resized. Does anything like this exist in C# .NET?

• Should I pass a SqlDataReader by reference or not when passing it out to multiple threads.

  Hi all, being new to c# I've run into this 'conundrum' when passing around a SqlDataReader between different threads. Without going into too much detail, the idea is to have a main thread fetching data from the database (a large recordset) and then have a helper-task run through this record by record and doing some stuff based upon the contents of this. There is no feedback to the recordset, it simply wades through until no records are left. This works fine, but given the nature of the job at hand it should be possible to have this job spread over different threads (CPUs) to maximize throughput (the order of execution is of no significance). The question then becomes, when I pass this recordset in a SqlDataReader, do I have to use ref or not ? It kind of boils down to the question : if I pass the object around without specifying ref, won't it create new copies in memory and have records processed n times ? Or, don't I risk having the record-position being moved forward while not all fields have been fully read yet ? The latter seems more like a 'data racing' issue and probably is covered by the lock()ing mechanism (or not?). My initial take on the problem was that it doesn't really hurt passing the variable using ref, yet as a colleague put it : "you only need ref when you're doing something wrong" =) Additionally using ref restricts me from applying a Using() construction too which isn't very nice either. I thus create a "basic" project that tackles the same approach but without the ref notation. Tests so far show that it works flawlessly on a Core2Duo (2cpu) using any number of threads, yet I'm still a bit wary... What do you experts think about this ? Use ref or not ? How can I get the build to fail on an error? At the Ant Java page, I am confused by: By default the return code of a is ignored. Alternatively, you can set resultproperty to the name of a property and have it assigned to the result code (barring immutability, of course). When you set failonerror="true", the only possible value for resultproperty is 0. Any non-zero response is treated as an error and would mean the build exits.

• Where to observe application deployed by Jenkins?

I have successfully configured it to work with Maven2 and Git as well. Next, I created a job/project (A Java/Spring application), and got it to build without error on Jenkins as well.   Hi everyone I'm trying to compare two values using struts2 s:if tag but its not working. If I hardcode the values it works but I want it to be dynamic. The variable stringValue is of type String. The variable currentLongValue is of type Long. <s:set var="stringValue" value="order"/> <s:iterator value="listTest"> <s:set var="currentLongValue" value="value"/> <s:if test="#currentLongValue.toString() == #stringValue" > //Do something </s:if> <s:else> //Do something else </s:else> </s:iterator> For the s:if I have tried toString and also the equals(). It only works if I hardcode the values. Example: <s:if test="#currentLongValue == 1234"> Any clues? Thank you.

  I'm using Spring MVC and am using aspects to advise my controllers. I'm running into one issue: controllers that return a value annotated with the @ResponseBody type. I can retrieve annotations on the type of object being returned, but not the ones being added at return time.

• Nose2 multiprocess error on Windows7

  I was looking into nose2 as a way to get around the restrictions of having both xunit output and multiprocessing in nose1.3.
