• Where is the Android Metamodel located?

  Hey, I would like to use Android for Model-Driven-Software-Development. For this, I need to locate the Android Model in the SDK. I already searched a while for it, but were not able to find it. Has anyone an idea where it could be? Is it possible, that it is the AndroidManifest.xml-File in the folder android-sdk-\platforms\android-x\android.jar? After unpacking this file, I am not able to open that file correctly on Windows XP, because a lot of characters have the wrong character set. Or is it also possible, that it is only located in the source code? Thanks in advance, Dominik

• .Net opening and closing database connections

  I designed the data access portion of our framework so that every time a business object needs to interact with the database it would have to open a connection, invoke the data access layer (to execute the query), and then close the connection. Then if it needed to run in a transaction it would open the connection, begin the transaction, invoke the data access layer (to execute the query) and then commit the transaction, close the transaction, and finally close the connection. I did it this way with the mindset of open late and close early... but what if I needed to call other BO's to submit data in a single transaction? Is there a better way to handle opening and closing connections as well as working with transactions? I'm a rookie in designing application architecture so I hope I'm not doing this wrongly... any help is appreciated.

  I use awesome-wm and jEdit. I placed jEdit into tag '4' with the following rule in rc.lua: { rule = { class = "org-gjt-sp-jedit-jEdit" }, properties = { tag = tags[1][4] } } That works fine for the main window, but if I open an dialog for jEdit (open-file, search etc.) it opens in the tag for any other application. I used xprop, but it says the class is also "org-gjt-sp-jedit-jEdit". So how can I configure that?

• Getting "value is not defined" while inheriting a type

  I can't see what I am doing wrong, as the files are in the correct order. In this case it is: BaseDAO.fs CreateDatabase.fs They are in the same namespace, but even when I had them in different modules, and opened the module in CreateDatabase the same error.   github url I am using a simple search that displays search results: @adds = Add.search(params[:search]) In addition to the search results I'm trying to utilize a method, nearbys(), which displays objects that are close in proximity to the search result. The following method displays objects which are close to 2, but it does not display object 2. How do I display object 2 in conjunction with the nearby objects? @adds = Add.find(2).nearbys(10) While the above code functions, when I use search, @adds = Add.search(params[:search]).nearbys(10) a no method error is returned, undefined methodnearbys' for Array:0x30c3278` How can I search the model for an object AND use the nearbys() method AND display all results returned?   I have two models in relation one-to-many: class Question(db.Model): questionText = db.StringProperty(multiline=False) class Answer(db.Model): answerText = db.StringProperty(multiline=False) question = db.ReferenceProperty(Question, collection_name='answers') I have front-end implemented in Flex and use pyamf to load data. When i try to load all answers with related questions all works as desired and I can access field answer.question however in case of loading questions (e.g. by Questions.all() ), 'question.answers' remains empty/null (though on server/python side I can revise question.answers without problem - probably after lazy-loading). So is it possible to load all questions along with answers ? (I know this is possible in JPA Java api but what about python ?) Shoud I use additional setting, GQL query or django framework to make it work ?

• Why won't vyatta allow SMTP through my firewall?

  I am setting up a vyatta router on VMware ESXi, But I see to have hit a major snag, I could not get my firewall and NAT to work correctly. I am not sure what was wrong with NAT but it "seems" to be working now. But the firewall is not allowing traffic from my WAN interface (eth0) to my LAN (eth1). I can confirm its the firewall because I disabled all firewall rules and everything worked with just NAT. If put the firewalls (WAN and LAN) back in place nothing can get through to port 25. I am not really sure what the issue could be I am using pretty basic firewall rules, I wrote the rules while looking at the vyatta docs so unless there is something odd with the documentation they "should" be working. UPDATE Just to see if the firewall was working properly I made a rule to block SSH from the WAN interface. When I checked for port 22 on my primary WAN address it said it was still open even though I outright blocked the port. Here is the rule I used; rule 21 { action reject destination { address 74.219.80.163 port 22 } protocol tcp } So now I am convinced either I am doing something wrong or the firewall is not working like it should.

• JTable.setRowHeight prevents me from adding more rows

  I'm working on a pretty simple Java app in order to learn more about JTables, TableModels, and custom cell renderers. The table is a simple table with 8 columns only with text in them. When you click on an "add" button, a dialog pops up and lets you enter the data for the columns. Now to my problem. One of the columns (the last one) should allow for multiple lines of text. I'm already putting HTML into the field, but it is not wrapping. I did some research and looked into JTable#setRowHeight(). However, once I use setRowHeight, I can no longer add rows to the table. The data is put into the table model, but it does not show in the table. If I remove the setRowHeight line, then it adds data just fine. Is there another step to adding data to my data model that I'm missing? Thanks a lot!

  I am using rails 3.0.0.beta3 and I am trying to implement form with nested attributes using :accepts_nested_attributes_for. My form is nested to three levels: Survey Question Answer. Survey has_many Questions, and Question has many Answers. Inside the Survey model, there is :accepts_nested_attributes_for :questions and inside the question mode, there is :accepts_nested_attributes_for :answers Everything is working fine except when I add a new answer to an existing question, it doesn't get created. However, if I make changes to the corresponding question while creating the answer, I can successfully create the answer. This example is exactly similar to a railscast: http://railscasts.com/episodes/197-nested-model-form-part-2 but doesn't work in rails3 (at least in my case). Please let me know if there is any issue with nested attributes in Rails 3. Thanks in advance.

  Here's what I'm doing (sorry for the variable names, I'm not using those in my code): File.open("out_file_1.txt", "w") do |out_1| File.open("out_file_2.txt", "w") do |out_2| File.open_and_process("in_file_1.txt", "r") do |in_1| File.open_and_process("in_file_2.txt", "r") do |in_2| while line_1 = in_1.gets do line_2 = in_2.gets #input files have the same number of lines #process data and output to files end end end end end The open_and_process method is just to open the file and close it once it's done. It's taken from the pickaxe book. Anyway, the main problem is that the code is nested too deeply. I can't load all the files' contents into memory, so I have to iterate line by line. Is there a better way to do this? Or at least prettify it?

Out of curiosity I'd like to know why Django's testrunner is limited to the doctests in models.py, but more practically I'd like to know how one could expand the testrunner's doctests to include (for example) views.py and other modules when running manage.py test.   I am trying to create a message-board type element in a CakePHP app. This element will be displayed on all pages and views that use a particular layout. I want it to display all the messages in the model, then show the add form when a link is clicked, then return to the updated message list when submitted. All this without affecting the current view/page. I have my message model/controller/index set up, with a message board element that requests the index action. This works fine. However I am perplexed about how to return back to the original page/action from which the link was clicked. I can't use $this-referer() because that will link back to the add() action; what I want rather is to link to the page/view before that. Any general pointers on how to achieve something like this?

  The eager loading on Ruby on Rails is not working properly for the following scenario. First we had a model called marks which has the following fields id, student, subject, mark the student is a string column which has the active directory login value, later on for reporting functionality we introduce another table called user which has the following fields id, ad_name, full_name Now on the Mark model, we have added the belongs to class belongs_to :student_details, :class_name = "User", :foreign_key = "student", :primary_key = "ad_name" and when loading using the ActiveRecord's find method we are passing in the include conditon for eager loading Marks.find(:all, :include = :reserved_user) but when the find is executed, for each and every mark a student select query executed. Is this a known bug in ROR? or am i missing something?

• MVC Client Validation from Service Layer

  I'm following this article http://www.asp.net/mvc/tutorials/older-versions/models-(data)/validating-with-a-service-layer-cs to include a Service Layer with Business Logic in my MVC Web Application. I'm able to pass messages from the Service Layer to the View Model in a Html.ValidationSummary using ModelState Class. I perform basic validation logic on the View Model (using DataAnnotation attributes) and I have ClientValidation enabled by default which displaying the error message on every single field of my form. The Business logic error message which come from the Service Layer are being displayed on Html.ValidationSummary only after Posting the form to the Server. After Validation from the Service Layer I would like highlight one or more fields and have the message from the Service Layer showing on these fields instead that the Html.ValidationSummary. Any idea how to do it? Thanks

• Send HTTP Post with default browser with C#

  Hello, I am wondering if it is possible to send POST data with the default browser of a computer in C#. Here is the situation. My client would like the ability to have their C# application open their browser and send client information to a webform. This webform would be behind a login screen. The assumption from the application side is that once the client data is sent to the login screen, the login screen would pass that information onto the webform to prepopulate it. This would be done over HTTPS and the client would like this to be done with a POST and not a GET as client information would be sent as plain text. I have found some wonderful solutions that do POSTS and handle the requests. • rails arguments to after_save observer

  Hi, I want users to enter a comma-delimited list of logins on the form, to be notified by email when a new comment/post is created. I don't want to store this list in the database so I would use a form_tag_helper 'text_area_tag' instead of a form helper text_field. I have an 'after_save' observer which should send an email when the comment/post is created. As far as I am aware, the after_save event only takes the model object as the argument, so how do I pass this non model backed list of logins to the observer to be passed on to the Mailer method that uses them in the cc list. thanks

As far as I can tell: Controller: deals with routing requests View: deals with presentation of data Model: looks a whole lot like a Data Access layer Where does the Business Logic go? Take a large enterprise application with: Several different sources of data (WCF, WebServices and ADO) tied together in a data access layer (useing multiple different DTOs). A lot business logic segmented over several dlls. What is an appropriate way for an MVC web application to sit on top of this (in terms of code and project structure)? The example I have seen where everything just goes in the Model folder don't seem like they are appropriate for very large applications. Thanks for any advice!

  Before I begin, I am using Ruby on Rails and the Devise gem for user authentication. Hi, I was doing some research about account security and I found a blog post about the topic awhile ago but I can no longer find it again. I read something about when making a login system you should have 1 model for User, this contains a user's username, encrypted password, and email. You should also have a model for a user's Account. This contains everything else. A User has an Account. I don't know if I'm explaining this correctly since I haven't seen the blog post for several months and I lost my bookmark. Could someone explain how and why I should or shouldn't do this. My application deals with money so I need to cover my bases with security. Thanks.

• Adding Listeners at runtime? - Java MVC

  My model in my MVC pattern, generates components at runtime and gives them to the View to be displayed on the screen through update() method (you know, model is the observable and the view is the observer). But I also need to add listeners to these components, and the controller has the listener methods (because they say the MVC pattern is like this) and it's not involved in this update process. So I can't add the listeners at runtime, but only in the controller's constructor at startup. I've got an idea, that is making the controller the observer and then giving the data to the view, as well as adding the listeners. Do you think this would be OK?
