• Workaround for an Xcode/iOS SDK Issue...

  Hi, everyone: When you are doing ADF Mobile development, and you need to deploy the application to an iOS device, you would need to compile/deploy the app with iOS App Certificates and Provisioning Profile. This means you would need to "Deploy to Package" or "Deploy to iTunes" during deployment, and configure JDeveloper with the proper certificates/profiles. In some instances (exact combination is still not clear), deploy and signing the application to generate the ipa file may fail with similar error message at the end of the deployment log: [01:04:45 PM] Deployment failed due to one or more errors returned by '/usr/bin/xcrun'. The workaround is discussed in this article from StackOverflow. This article refers to the old location of Xcode, so you would need to adjust the paths accordingly. The path for Xcode 4.3 and above would be like: /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents//Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/Developer/usr/bin/PackageApplication to this script file. • Should app config files be in jboss/bin directory?

  I am a Integration Engineer for a software company. My development team has generated various jboss .ear applications that rely on configuration files being in the jboss/bin directory and setting the CLASSPATH externally using batch files (on Windows from an external LIB directory) rather than using jboss's internally loaded classes. Is this the right/standard way of doing things? Would some other location be better (for the config files) such as jboss/server/instancename/deploy or some other directory? Any opinons on how I can direct my development team to doing things in a best practices fashion?

• Security issue on Linux with Netbeans

  In order to edit some files in Netbeans, I had to do a chmod 777 on the parent-folder. Reason being that anything else would result in Netbeans not wanting to accept the folder, as it could not be written. Is there an other way to do this besides doing a chmod 777? I'm on Ubuntu 9.10, using Netbeans 6.7.1 And after that, I manually have to give each file the needed rights. There should be an easier way, I just don't know it. EDIT: I am running XAMPP and the files I'm trying to edit are in the htdocs folder. I'm running Netbeans as my local user account, which is how it starts if I have it run from the applications-menu.

• VMware Workstation on Linux: Dropping core files in a shared folder...

  I'm using VMware 6.0.2 on a RHEL 4.6 host. The VMs are MontaVista CGE 5.0 (2.6.21 kernel). I'm trying to get applications running in the VMs to drop any core files on a HGFS volume, i.e. in a "shared folder". The core files get created as per the path and format given in /proc/sys/kernel/core_pattern, but they are always zero length. If I change the path to a local path (on a virtual disk in the VM), all is well. Any ideas what I have to do get the core files written into a shared folder? Thanks for your help!

• Tweaking log4net Settings Programmatically

  A few months ago, I had to dynamically add a log4net appender at runtime.  Now I find myself in another log4net situation.  I need to modify the configuration of my appenders at runtime. My client requires all files generated by our applications to be saved to a specific location.  This location is determined at runtime.  Therefore, I want my FileAppenders to log their data to this specific location – but I won't know the location until runtime so I can't add it to the XML configuration file I'm using. No problem.  Bing is my new friend and returned a couple of hits.  I made a few tweaks to their LINQ queries and created a generic extension method for ILoggerRepository (just a hunch that I might want this functionality somewhere else in the future – sorry YAGNI fans): public static void ModifyAppenders<T>(this ILoggerRepository repository, Action<T> modify) where T:log4net.Appender.AppenderSkeleton { var appenders = from appender in log4net.LogManager.GetRepository().GetAppenders() where appender is T select appender as T;   foreach (var appender in appenders) { modify(appender); appender.ActivateOptions(); } } Now I can easily add the proper directory prefix to all of my FileAppenders at runtime: log4net.LogManager.GetRepository().ModifyAppenders<FileAppender>(a => { a.File = Path.Combine(settings.ConfigDirectory, Path.GetFileName(a.File)); }); Thanks beefycode and Wil Peck. • QuickTime X incorrect aspect ratio for H.264 video

  I'm running Snow Leopard and have a serious issue with QuickTime X. I have a Samsung HMX-H100N/XAA camcorder that records H.264 video in either 720p or 1080i. In either of these resolutions, QuickTime X (and, by extension, all QuickTime-associated applications like FCP, iMovie, etc.) displays an incorrect aspect ratio for all video produced by this camcorder. For example, 720p video is reported as being 1280x720 in the movie inspector (which is normal), but the displayed size is always at an aspect ratio of something like 63:20 (never heard of such a ratio) with sizes like 1700x539. If I open the video in QuickTime 7 player on the same computer, it is displayed correctly. If I process the video through something like MPEG Streamclip to transcode it, it displays correctly. As it stands right now I have to transcode all of my video in order to use it in any iLive (or other QT-based application) unless I want it to look ridiculous. I've tried installing Perian, but that seemed to have no effect.

• Does anyone provide a Skype connection service?

  Is there a way of offering Skype access to incoming calls while keeping all telephony traffic over our chosen business telephony provision? Is there a 3rd party who can route incoming Skype calls to our telephone system? The business has had requests from contacts wanting to call us via Skype, but we want to keep all telephony via our PBX and phone lines as our geographic location limits our available internet bandwidth. We also prevent installation of non-standard applications on desktops and do not want to add Skype to our build. I was wondering if there were any 3rd parties that provide a connection service that would allow our contacts to call via Skype and us receive the calls via our phone system.

• Were the first assemblers written in machine code?

  I am reading the book The Elements of Computing Systems: Building a Modern Computer from First Principles, which contains projects encompassing the build of a computer from boolean gates all the way to high level applications (in that order). The current project I'm working on is writing an assembler using a high level language of my choice, to translate from Hack assembly code to Hack machine code (Hack is the name of the hardware platform built in the previous chapters). Although the hardware has all been built in a simulator, I have tried to pretend that I am really constructing each level using only the tools available to me at that point in the real process. That said, it got me thinking. Using a high level language to write my assembler is certainly convenient, but for the very first assembler ever written (i.e. in history), wouldn't it need to be written in machine code, since that's all that existed at the time? And a correlated question... how about today? If a brand new CPU architecture comes out, with a brand new instruction set, and a brand new assembly syntax, how would the assembler be constructed? I'm assuming you could still use an existing high level language to generate binaries for the assembler program, since if you know the syntax of both the assembly and machine languages for your new platform, then the task of writing the assembler is really just a text analysis task and is not inherently related to that platform (i.e. needing to be written in that platform's machine language)... which is the very reason I am able to "cheat" while writing my Hack assembler in 2012, and use some preexisting high level language to help me out.

• Microsoft Dev Days &ndash; Johannesburg 2010

  So I am half way through dev days in Johannesburg. It has been quite an interesting day… Maybe it is me, but this year it hasn’t been as OMG as at previous conferences. A few things that stood out though… 1) This is the first time I have had to queue in a line to use the gents toilets before – yes, a true sign that we are at a typically male dominated industry event in this country – the men’s toilets were jam packed – the ladies if there were any there didn’t have a problem. 2) Bart De Smet presentation still rocks – I am a fan of Bart’s and once again his presentation was great. Something that I am going to look into in more depth which I think is a new feature in .Net is called Code Contracts. 3) I have got to get into Silverlight more… I have known this for a long time and have dabbled in it for a while, but Silverlight in my opinion will become the main platform for “hosting” applications. So… 3 things so far, hopefully I get some OMG’s from the rest of the day…

  We are a small office set up with two PC's out of which one of my PCs runs 24hrs. Its almost equivalent to a small server, but right now we're in need of a server which is why I am planning to keep my machine as well as a server into a single PC. I've used VMware Workstation to create a powerful Windows Server 2008 within my PC and I want to attach it to my Network Switch through the same PC where I am hosting it. I want to use it almost like a physical server with an IP address and everything so that I can connect from one Pc to the Server directly or my applications can connect to Server straight with the IP address.   Hi, I have two applications in Tomcat app1 and app2. I have mod_jk configured for Apache front end and I am able to get the Tomcat index.jsp Now I created two virtualhosts for app1 and app2 so that app1.domain.com will point to app1 in tomcat and app2.domain.com will point to app2 in Tomcat but it's not working. • What is the Best way to learn c# programming and capability to do anything with C#?

  I browsed all the answers given in Stackoverflow,i couldn't find my answer that's why i am writing this, so please don't mark this a duplicate. My case i want to get the capability of doing anything in C# from building applications to solving problems. I searched for and tried to read books. Then one of the experts said, reading books will not make any good for you, for learning you have to solve problems i.e. real world problems in C#, he gave me some sample problems, which i previously did in C++, i started doing, but the thing is that i know the internal logic of solving the problem or the algorithm to solve. But i don't know how to imepelement them using C# efficiently. so, the gap is, i can't think in C#, I know the message to passed but don't the exact way to pass it. I did a program to solve a problem, then find out there are much easier ways of doing it wherever i was doing it in tougher way. So, can you guys(C# experts) please enlighten me, what i need to get hold of the language and get the ability to code in C# proficiently?

• Is .Net Going to Die As far as Server Apps and Desktop Apps are concerned? [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: What does Windows 8 mean for the future of .NET? The Windows 8 preview doesn't mention .Net, and the demo seems to showcase what HTML, CSS and Javascript can do on Windows 8 OS. The impression I get from watching it is that HTML , Javascript is going to figure prominently in Windows 8, even for the traditional windows desktop applications. That, couple with the fact that there is no mentioning of .Net 5 and Visual Studio 2012 or 2013( MS is pretty quick to announce the next generation VS tools) yet, makes me worry that sooner or later, Microsoft will abandon the .Net platform completely. Yes, not just abandoning Silverlight, but the .Net platform in general. Which means that all the desktop apps, server apps you wrote in .Net is going to be obsolete, much like how VB6 apps are now obsolete. Is .Net going to die? Of course you won't find that all .Net apps stop running tomorrow. But will there be a day-- even when at that time Microsoft is alive and kicking-- when .Net apps are looked upon as legacy apps in the way we perceive VB6 apps?   After three days of intensive Google searching, I have not found any high-level workflow of how to build a low profile - cheap - computing cluster (we are not interested in HA yet). This is just a front-end plus a node for now. We want to start small with rockscluster, provide a web-based server for offering services, and then add nodes as our budget increases. • Route traffic on vpn to another interface on an ASA 5510

  I have a ASA 5510 that has about 60-70 vpn tunnels. I have four interfaces on the device: 1)External, 2)192.168.1.0, 3)192.168.2.0, 4) 192.168.3.0 A VPN tunnel is configured from the remote site (192.168.200.0) to the 192.168.2.0 subnet on the ASA. I have remote applications I would like the users at the remote site to be able to access which are hosted on the 192.168.3.0 subnet. I can route traffic between the subnets that are located on the ASA. Any way I can route traffic from the remote site to the 192.168.3.0?

• Materialized View vs POJO View based on Objects representing Oracle tables

  I have about 12 Oracle tables that represent data that's being integrated from an external system into my web application. This data is going to be used in an informational and comparative manner for the clients using my web application. On one particular page of my web application, I need to combine data from 3 - 5 Oracle tables for display as an HTML table on the page. We are NOT currently using a framework (Apache Struts for instance) and we're not in a position to move this Java web application into one at this moment (I'm trying to get us there...). I am certainly not an architect, but I see one of two ways that I can effectively build this page (I know there are other ways, but these seem like they would be good ones...): 1. Create an Oracle Materialized View that represents what the HTML table should look like and then create a POJO based on the View that I can then integrate into my JSP. 2. Create POJOs that represent the Oracle tables themselves and then create another POJO that is the View used for the HTML table and then integrate that POJO into my JSP. To me, it seems the Materialized View would possibly offer quicker results which is always what we strive for in web applications. But, if I just create 12 POJOs that represent the Oracle tables and then build POJO Views off of those, I have the advantage of keeping all the code in one place for this and possibility for creating any number of different views and reusable components in my web application. Any thoughts on which one might be the better route? Or, maybe you know of an even better one?

• Why would accessing photos over a network be a problem for Digikam?

  Digikam has always worked nicely for me. I recently setup a Synology DiskStation (DS212+) and moved all my pictures to it, keeping them in an encrypted folder. I mount that folder using cifs, as some bug prevents eCryptfs and NFS from working together. This has led Digikam to being incredibly slow. Startup takes a very long time (several minutes for 41779 items, 123.8GB) but worse is how long it takes Digikam to write files. I like using Digikams import feature to copy new images from my camera to the hard drive because it checks for duplicates as well as creating a clear folder structure according to the dates the images were taken. Since I moved to using the network drive Digikam takes about 5 to 10 times as long to import photos than it did before. Saving modified or converted images takes equally long. What I am looking for is a way to help Digikam speed things up or an alternative piece of software (I have never liked Digikam being so very much KDEish…). There are just so many features that only Digikam seems to combine, e.g.: Batch processing. Respects existing folder structure. Does not mess up files for other applications. *.NEF support. Caches thumbnails in a clean way.

  I have Ubuntu 10.10 installed and need to plot 3D graphic. I have installed several free applications available in the repository, like QtiPlot and GNU Octave. I have found out and created the following graphic. Now I have to show in the same graphic the position of my experiment results, which consist of elements with three parameters: X, Y and Z coordinates which had been calculated with the same function as above graphic.   My company is serving up deep-zoom maps. We have 100'000s jpg images being served up and was wondering if output caching would be the way to go. Our problem is latency on serving the images. I was wondering if i output caching would indeed improve latency and a general explanation about output caching. • Remote desktop sessions - Unwanted automatic log off after period of time

  I'm having an issue whenever I connect to any of our servers via RDP - After a certain period of time, it seems to close these sessions, closing all the applications i had open etc... This is particularly annoying if I am running a long process - for example, copying a file - it cuts it off... I then re-connect via RDP, and it effectively loads a new session. Is this set somewhere in Group Policy? Or somewhere else? This is happening on Windows 2008 (it may also be on our 2003 servers, although I haven't noticed...)

• Drivers for Ubuntu 13.10 [on hold]

  I just installed Ubuntu 13.10, my screen resolution is not fitting my screen as the ubuntu interface is all around stretching over the screen, so i thought i might install nvidia's driver that i know can let me adjust the exact resolution i need. So i began a 2 hour quest, i downloaded the driver hoping i would have a wizard to instal it, but yeah, so i tried to do a bit of research and i found that feature, i think its called in english additional drivers, but it wont show the nvidia drivers, i tried the terminal, but once i write the commands i found it asks for a password but i cant type anything once the password is asked. So, my question, obviously, how do i install this driver? I am not sure if this is appropriate, but why doesnt ubuntu have a wizard to install things? I feel like im working for the OS, when it should be the other way around, but i love the concept of linux, so im pushing forward and trying to use it. Another thing is, i had to install a bunch of drivers and applications for the drivers in windows, do i need to install any other driver? I cant change my mouse's sensibility in the os, it seems, so how do i do it? I'm sorry i'm asking all of this, but it seems necessary.
