• bluetooth on acer travelmate laptop can send only, but don't want to receive

  I have a acer travelmate 5720 laptop that runs ubuntu 13.04. It has built in bluetooth. For what I can see is that Ubuntu did pick up the bluetooth and the necessary bluetooth drivers is installed. But I'm only able to send files from this laptop to bluetooth devices, but for some reason I can't do the same visa verso to the laptop, for example if I try to send a file from a blackberry 9360 it can't send, tells me failed to find service. It kicks out. I try to find more drivers to install, tried a few in ubuntu software center, but no success. I even uninstalled all bluetooth drivers and reinstalled it, but no success, it doesn't pick up any phone anymore. Please assist me.

  The company I work for maintains a successful SaaS product that grew "organically" over the years. We are planning to expand the line with a suite of new products that will share data with the existing product. To support this, we are looking to consolidate business logic into a single place: a web service layer. The WS layer will be used by: The web applications A tool to import data A tool to integrate with other client software (not an API per se) We also want to create an API that can be used by our customers that are capable of using it to create their own integrations. We are struggling with the following question: Should the internal API (aka the WS layer) and the external API be one in the same, with security and permission settings to control what can be done by who, or should they be two separate applications where the external API just calls the internal API like any other application? So far in our debate it seems that separating them may be more secure, but will add overhead. What have others done in a similar situation?

• Google Analytics - TOS section pertaining to privacy

  The Google Analytics terms of service does do not allow to track "data that personally identifies an individual (such as a name, email address or billing information), or other data which can be reasonably linked to such information by Google". Does anybody have first-hand knowledge if this includes user ids which cannot be resolved by Google but can be linked to actual persons via an Analytics Users CRM system (e.g. a CRM linked to Analytics via API access) ? I used to think so, but if that where the case many ecommerce implementations would be illegal (since they store transactions id which can be linked to client's purchases). If anybody has insights about the intended meaning of the paragraph (preferably with a reliable source) it would be great if he/she could share :-)

• Ping works , but unable to do ssh

  I disabled the firewall with sudo ufw disable, I can ping the server, the server can ping me but I can't ssh to it: root@ubuntu:/home/acme# ssh 192.168.1.6 ssh: connect to host 192.168.1.6 port 22: Connection refused I removed ssh and reinstalled : sudo apt-get remove openssh-client openssh-server sudo apt-get install openssh-client openssh-server But still ssh is not working and I get the error connection refused How do I tackle this issue? • When will microsoft release IE9? [closed]

  I was one of those people early on to try their IE9 beta, and it was terribly buggy. It still does function horribly. IMO any windows release after 5(2k,nt,xp) absolutely sux the life out of my resources compared to RPM linux(opensuse), until at least service pack 2. MS is trying to push HTML5/CSS3 and they cannot pass the Acid 3 test. I am wondering when IE9 will become functional. I am a big supported of MS applications. I have a great amount of adoration for IIS7 because they have support for CGI/PHP. Is IE9 going to be released before 2012?

• Using a back-end mechanism to copy files to DB and notify the application

  This Scenario: User copies large files to a local folder. I want to watch that folder and when a new file is dropped then go and copy it to Database, so later when coping is done I can actually use it in my application. ( A C# WinForms App). It would be awesome to also find a way to somehow get notified in the Application that hey copying the file to DB is finished and ready for use... I am using C#.net, Windows... What solutions/architecture do you suggest for this? For example having a windows service running all the time watching that folder, when something copied goes and write it to DB ... then how about getting notified? MSMQ is something I can use? don't know much about it yet. Thanks.

  I want to track visitors who come to my site through a particular link. For example, those visitors coming from http://www.domain.com/abc123, I can get their pageviews, time on site, bounce rate, referrer pages per visit etc. After that I can store that info into by database on daily basis. Can anyone suggest any service or api or any software for the same? I have used Google Analytics utm tags that work straight well for my requirement but I don't know how many links I can track with it. I have around 80-100 links to track a day and the number of links will be increasing. I couldn't find any documentation regarding limit of campaigns in GA. If there's no such limit, I can start this project. Thanks

• AppFabric &ndash; where are all the monitoring events?

  When you’ve just gone through a setup of AppFabric and you’ve got some WF/WCF things happening, if you start looking at the Dashboard and you see nothing, it might be as simple as restarting SQL Agent. I generally don’t reboot my system for several days and after installing AppFabric the SQL Agent jobs didn’t start firing right away.  Yes, even running a boot to VHD, you can still put the machine to sleep (just logoff and click on Sleep)… So, after spending time looking through the SQL monitoring DB that AppFabric was configured to use, I saw a bunch of records in the [AppFabric_Monitoring].[dbo].[ASStagingTable] table.  This table is the stopping point before the SQL Agent job (or Service Broker in SQL Express) pushes the items to their final resting place.   Does anyone know any Help Desk Software which allow you to create user groups / to mark/categorize specific users in some way / and to to ban specific users/e-mails (not user groups) for a specific period of time? Kayako? OTRS? simpledesk?... Kayako looks to be very functional but not sure if it has this option. zendesk is also very functional but a SaaS service not a downloadable software. Since the functions that I am saying are very common in forum software, maybe simpledesk could do it since it is based in SMF. Any ideas?

  I am having a problem opening port 21 on my Linux Ubuntu server. No matter what i do, i can not get my status to change from closed to open. Here is a recent iptables command i used and the result iptables -A INPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport 21 -j ACCEPT nmap -p21-22,25,80,443 CCR1 Starting Nmap 4.53 ( http://insecure.org ) at 2012-06-19 03:13 CDT Interesting ports on CCR1.chennaichristianradio.com (5.10.69.98): PORT STATE SERVICE 21/tcp closed ftp 22/tcp open ssh 25/tcp closed smtp 80/tcp open http 443/tcp closed https I also used commands from the advise from this forum http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/iptables-open-ftp-port-21/ I need to open this for FTP access to the server, and ultimately I need to forward port 21 to 2 domains i am setting up. • How do you unit test your javascript.

  I spend a lot of time working in javascript of late. I have not found a way that seems to work well for testing javascript. This in the past hasn't been a problem for me since most of the websites I worked on had very little javascript in them. I now have a new website that makes extensive use of jQuery I would like to build unit tests for most of the system. My problems are this. Most of the functions make changes to the DOM in some way. Most of the functions request data from the web server as well and require a session on the service to get results back. I would like to run the test from either a command line or a test running harness rather then in a browser. Any help or articles I should be reading would be helpful.

• Services - Separate Sites or One Site - Impact on SEO

  I have a client who is a lawyer that specializes in Criminal Defense and DUI, however, he does not show up well in Google. In researching the sites that rank better have much more content for those specialties than his site does and my thought it that he needs to add more quality content to rank better for those searches. On his site he mentions his specialties, but also he has various personal things on his sites that reflect his interest. These are clearly separated from the business portion. My questions are should he 1) separate his personal information into a new domain and 2) should he have a separate URL for each of his specialties? OR would one URL work as long as everything is clearly separated? I read once that for legal services to rank well you should make a separate site for each specialty and have that site focus solely on that service.

• Code to simulate a users actions, such as logging in

  I've recently begun working on a PHP application, replacing another developer. I believed the application was using an API to communicate with a remote service but when I looked through the code I found that it was using a set of functions to actually log in, fill out forms and submit them as a user might do in a browser. My intention is to replace this code, to use the services API instead. I've considered leaving the code as is and not replace it. It makes me wonder though is this a common practice in the software industry? To have a programme simulate a users actions in a browser to perform a set of actions? It feels to me that this is clever but poor programming, Have any other developers seen this?
