• Creating a function in ruby

  Hello, i have some problem with creating a function to my Rails app. I want it to work like this: str = "string here" if str.within_range?(3..30) puts "It's withing the range!" end To do that i added this into my application helper: def within_range?(range) if self.is_a?(String) (range).include?(self.size) elsif self.is_a?(Integer) (range).include?(self) end end But i get this error: undefined method `within_range?' for &quot;&quot;:String Do you know what the problem is? and could you please help me. • Select and Insert across dblink

  I am having a bit of trouble with a select into insert across a dblink in oracle 10. I am using the following statement: INSERT INTO LOCAL.TABLE_1 ( COL1, COL2) SELECT COL1, COL2 FROM REMOTE.TABLE1@dblink s WHERE COL1 IN ( SELECT COL1 FROM WORKING_TABLE) When I run the statement the following is what gets run against the remote server on the DB Link: SELECT /*+ OPAQUE_TRANSFORM */ "COL1", "COL2" FROM "REMOTE"."TABLE1" "S" If I run the select only and do not do the insert into the following is run: SELECT /*+ */ "A1"."COL1" , "A1"."COL2" FROM "REMOTE"."TABLE1" "A1" WHERE "A1"."COL1" = ANY ( SELECT "A2"."COL1" FROM "LOCAL"."TABLE1"@! "A2") The issue is in the insert case the enitre table is being pulled across the dblink and then limited localy which takes a fair bit of time given the table size. Is there any reason adding the insert would change the behavior in this manner?

• Problem using Hibernate-Search

  Hi, I am using hibernate search for my application. It is well configured and running perfectly till some time back, when it stopped working suddenly. The reason according to me being the number of my model (bean) classes. I have some 90 classes, which I add to my configuration, while building my Hibernate Configuration. When, I disable hibernate search (remove the search annotations and use Configuration instead of AnnotationsConfiguration), I try to start my application, it Works fine. But,the same app when I enable search, it just hangs up. I tried debugging and found the exact place where it hangs. After adding all the class to my AnnotationsConfiguration object, when I say cfg.buildSessionfactory(), It never comes out of that statement. (I have waited for hours!!!) Also when I decrease the number of my model classes (like say to half i.e. 50) it comes out of that statement and the application works fine.. Can Someone tell why is this happening?? My versions of hibernate are: hibernate-core-3.3.1.GA.jar hibernate-annotations-3.4.0.GA.jar hibernate-commons-annotations-3.1.0.GA.jar hibernate-search-3.1.0.GA.jar Also if need to avoid using AnnotationsConfiguration, I read that I need to configure the search event listeners explicitly.. can anyone list all the neccessary listeners and their respective classes? • How can I exceed the 60% Memory Limit of IIS7 in ASP.NET Caching application

  Pardon if this is more serverfault vs. stackoverflow. It seems to be on the border. We have an application that caches a large amount of product data for an e-commerce application using ASP.NET caching. This is a dictionary object with 65K elements, and our calculations put the object's size at ~10GB. Problem: The amount of memory the object consumes seems to be far in excess of our 10GB calculation. BIGGEST CONCERN: We can't seem to use over 60% of the 32GB in the server. What we've tried so far: In machine.config/system.web (sf doesn't allow the tags, pardon the formatting): processModel autoConfig="true" memoryLimit="80" In web.config/system.web/caching/cache (sf doesn't allow the tags, pardon the formatting): privateBytesLimit = "20000000000" (and 0, the default of course) percentagePhysicalMemoryUsedLimit = "90" Environment: Windows 2008R2 x64 32GB RAM IIS7 Nothing seems to allow us to exceed the 60% value. • Is there a way to compare two Java war files

  We built some war files for our web server a while back and have now rebuilt them. To ensure that nothing has changed (and as a quality check), we tried to compare them using WinMerge. The differences we can see look like they are due to some kind of meta data e.g. the files being built on different dates? The difference in the lines seems to be consistent e.g. «d}< and ³Ze< The war files are still both the same size. Is there a way to compare them that strips out the meta data such as date?

  I am trying to persist an Entity with a @Lob annotated String field. The content of that fiels if bigger than the 40k buffer size limit. The first problem I had was related to the setString method used internally by the JPA implementation (Hibernate in my case) and the Oracle JDBC Driver. This problem was solved adding <property name="hibernate.connection.SetBigStringTryClob" value="true"/> to my persistence.xml file. Then, the error changed to a ORA-22835 error (the buffer is too small). ¿Is there any way that JPA solves this problem without going to a low-level implementation? ¿Any suggestions?

• Unexpected behavior with AudioQueueServices callback while recording audio

  I'm recording a continuous stream of data using AudioQueueServices. It is my understanding that the callback will only be called when the buffer fills with data. In practice, the first callback has a full buffer, the 2nd callback is 3/4 full, the 3rd callback is full, the 4th is 3/4 full, and so on. These buffers are 8000 packets (recording 8khz audio) - so I should be getting back 1s of audio to the callback each time. I've confirmed that my audio queue buffer size is correct (and is somewhat confirmed by the behavior). What am I doing wrong? Should I be doing something in the AudioQueueNewInput with a different RunLoop? I tried but this didn't seem to make a difference... By the way, if I run in the debugger, each callback is full with 8000 samples - making me think this is a threading / timing thing.

  Hi all, In my application I have this requirement that first tap on custom cell of uitableview with a label in it should expand it and second should contract it. I'm able to expand and contract cell and expand label inside cell, but not able to contract the label on second tap. I'm using this function - (void)setSelected:(BOOL)selected animated:(BOOL)animated { [super setSelected:selected animated:animated]; if( selected == YES ) { [self expandRow]; } else { [self contractRow]; } height = [lblFeed frame].size.height + 75; } expandRow expands the label and contractRow contracts it. I'm perplexed as for how many rows this function gets called. It doesn't get called only for the cell tapped, it gets called more number of times for single tap on single cell may be for other cells but I'm not getting which rows. This' really urgent. Can anybody please help?

• Efficient algorithm for finding largest eigenpair of small general complex matrix

  I am looking for an efficient algorithm to find the largest eigenpair of a small, general (non-square, non-sparse, non-symmetric), complex matrix, A, of size m x n. By small I mean m and n is typically between 4 and 64 and usually around 16, but with m not equal to n. This problem is straight forward to solve with the general LAPACK SVD algorithms, i.e. gesvd or gesdd. However, as I am solving millions of these problems and only require the largest eigenpair, I am looking for a more efficient algorithm. Additionally, in my application the eigenvectors will generally be similar for all cases. This lead me to investigate Arnoldi iteration based methods, but I have neither found a good library nor algorithm that applies to my small general complex matrix. Is there an appropriate algorithm and/or library?

  I'm trying to calculate the similarity (read: Levenshtein distance) of two images, using Python 2.6 and PIL. I plan to use the python-levenshtein library for fast comparison. Main question: What is a good strategy for comparing images? My idea is something like: Convert to RGB (transparent - white) (or maybe convert to monochrome?) Scale up the smaller one to the larger one's size Convert each channel (= the only channel, if converted to monochrome) to a sequence (item value = color value of the pixel) Calculate the Levenshtein distance between the two sequences Of course, this will not handle cases like mirrored images, cropped images, etc. But for basic comparison, this should be useful. Is there a better strategy documented somewhere?

Hardcoding a width would look terrible if the user turns the handset sideways and goes into Landscape mode. The ggplot2 book says on p 112 "The position and justification of legends are controlled by the theme setting legend.position, and the value can be right, left, top, bottom, none (no legend), or a numeric position". • java: List wrapper where get()/set() is allowed but add/remove is not

  I need to wrap a List<T> with some class that allows calls to set/get but does not allow add/remove calls, so that the list remains "stuck" at a fixed length. • How do I shrink my SQL Server Database?

  I have a Database nearly 1.9Gb Database in size MSDE2000 does not allow DBs that exceed 2.0Gb I need to shrink this DB (and many like it at various client locations) I have found and deleted many 100's of 1000's of records which are considered unneeded. these records account for a large percentage of some of the main (largest) tables in the Database. Therefore it's reasonable to assume much space should now be retrievable. So now I need to shrink the DB to account for the missing records I execute "DBCC ShrinkDatabase('MyDB')"......No effect. I have tried the various shrink facilities provided in MSSMS.... Still no effect. I have backed up the database and restored it... Still no effect. Still 1.9Gb Why? Whatever procedure I eventually find needs to be replayable on a client machine with access to nothing other than OSql or similar.

  Hi, once again I'm doing MASM programming. I'm trying to write a procedure using the Irvine32 library where the user enters a string which is put into an array of BYTEs with ReadString. Then it loops over that arrray and determines if each character is a number. However, when I try cmp [buffer + ecx], 30h MASM complains about comparing two things that are not the same size. Is there anyway I could read the ASCII code in each BYTE in the array as a DWORD (or otherwise extract the ASCII value in each BYTE)?

  In a project I work on we use a Python C module compiled from Fortran with f2py. I've had no issues building it on Windows 7 32bit (using mingw32) and on the servers it's built on 32bit Linux. But I've recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 LTS 64bit on my laptop that I use for development, and when I build it I get a lot of warnings (even though I've apparently installed all gcc/fortran libraries/compilers), but it does finish the build.   Hi, I create a TableLayout which has 3 equally-wide columns (I put 'stretchColumns="*" in my TableLayout which has 3 TextViews). See below: But my questions is why I set one of the TextView to 'visibility' to Gone in my java code, the TableLayout does not re-size to 2 qually-wide columns which fit the whole screen. I have even call 'tableLayout.requestLayout()' after i set the visibility to Gone.' How can I achieve what I want? • Sparse O(1) array with indices being consecutive products

  Hello, I'd like to pre-calculate an array of values of some unary function f. I know that I'll only need the values for f(x) where x is of the form of a*b, where both a and b are integers in range 0..N. The obvious time-optimized choice is just to make an array of size N*N and just pre-calculate just the elements which I'm going to read later. For f(a*b), I'd just check and set tab[a*b]. This is the fastest method possible - however, this is going to take a lot of space as there are lots of indices in this array (starting with N+1) which will never by touched. Another solution is to make a simple tree map... but this slows down the lookup itself very heavily by introducing lots of branches. No. I wonder - is there any solution to make such an array less sparse and smaller, but still quick branchless O(1) in lookup?
