  Why does .NET Entity Framework produce SQL that uses a subquery and left outer join on a simple 1-to-1 relationship? I expected to see a simple join on the two tables. • Is it possible to disable a ScrollViewer from inside the ScrollViewer?

  From a UserControl, I would like to disable a ScrollViewer which is defined one level higher. My scenario looks something like this: <!-- ... --> <ScrollViewer VerticalScrollBarVisibility="Auto" HorizontalScrollBarVisibility="Disabled"> <custom:MyUserControl ... /> </ScrollViewer> Now, I would like to disable the ScrollViewer from within MyUserControl. Is this possible? Background: I have defined a custom TabControl style where I added a ScrollViewer for each item's content automatically. However, in one case, I do not want to use that ScrollViewer, but rather make the content size to the available space, whereas in all other cases I do want to use the ScrollViewer. Any ideas? Of course, I could add a ScrollViewer to every tab item manually, except for the one item, but that is not what I want.

  Hi, I'm writing a file compressor utility in C++ that I want support for PCM WAV files, however I want to keep it in PCM encoding and just convert it to a lower sample rate and change it from stereo to mono if applicable to yield a lower file size. I understand the WAV file header, however I have no experience or knowledge of the actual sound data works. So my question is, would it be relatively easy to programmatically manipulate the "data" sub-chunk in a WAV file to convert it to another sample rate and change the channel number, or would I be much better off using an existing library for it? If it is, then how would it be done? Thanks in advance.

• In windbg, how do I get a heap header address from !heap -l results?

  I am playing around with windbg's !heap command, particular the "-l" switch which detects memory leaks. When -l does detect a leak, I am having problems navigating from its results to a stack trace for the source of the leak. Here is a snippet of the results from !heap -l 0:066 !heap -l Searching the memory for potential unreachable busy blocks. I've racked my brain looking over the other commands but can't figure out how to get the header address from any of these fields. Can someone help?

Any suggestions on how to move this over to the right by an arbitrary amount in pixels?

• How to export more than 1MB in XML format using sqlcmd and without an input file?

  Hello, In SQL Server 2008, I want to export the result of a stored procedure to a file using sqlcmd utility. Now the end of my stored procedure is a select statement with a "for xml path.." clause at the end. I read on BOL that if I don't want my output truncated when reaching 1MB file size, I have to use this :XML ON command, but it should be placed on its own line, before calling the stored procedure. Does any of you experts know if it is possible to do that without specifying an input file for sqlcmd? (I'm calling sqlcmd like this: exec master..xp_cmdshell 'sqlcmd -Q"exec storedProcedureName @param1=value1, @param2=value2" -o c:\exportResults.xml -h-1 -E', but "storedProcedureName" and its parameters can change, which would mean 1 input file per passed parameters to sqlcmd) Also, it seems that I can't use bcp instead of sqlcmd because my stored procedure is creating a temporary table and performing DML statements on it? Last friday we installed some windows updates. After the reboot tomcat doesn't start anymore, with error: Error occurred during initialization of VM Could not reserve enough space for object heap We reduced the parameter -Xmx1024m to -Xmx768m and now tomcat starts.   Let's say, hypothetically (read: I don't think I actually need this, but I am curious as the idea popped into my head), one wanted an array of memory set aside locally on the stack, not on the heap. For instance, something like this: private void someFunction() { int[20] stackArray; //C style; I know the size and it's set in stone } I'm guessing the answer is no. All I've been able to find is heap based arrays. If someone were to need this, would there be any workarounds? Is there any way to set aside a certain amount of sequential memory in a "value type" way? Or are structs with named parameters the only way (like the way the Matrix struct in XNA has 16 named parameters (M11-M44))?

• Cannot format first column in WxPython's ListCtrl

  If I set the format of the first column in a ListCtrl to align centre (or align right) nothing happens. It works for the other columns. This only happens on Windows - I have tested it on Linux and it works fine. Does anyone know if there is a work-round or other solution?   I've read a lot on this topic already both here (e.g., stackoverflow.com/questions/1713554/threads-processes-vs-multithreading-multi-core-multiprocessor-how-they-are or http://stackoverflow.com/questions/680684/multi-cpu-multi-core-and-hyper-thread) and elsewhere (e.g., ixbtlabs.com/articles2/cpu/rmmt-l2-cache.html or software.intel.com/en-us/articles/multi-core-introduction/), but I still am not sure about a couple things that seem very straightforward. So I thought I'd just ask. (1) Is a multi-core processor in which each core has dedicated cache effectively the same as a multiprocessor system (balanced of course for processor speed, cache size, and so on)? (2) Let's say I have some images to analyze (i.e., computer vision), and I have these images loaded into RAM. My app spawns a thread for each image that needs to be analyzed. Will this app on a shared cache multi-core processor run slower than on a dedicated cache multi-core processor, and would the latter run at the same speed as on an equivalent single-core multiprocessor machine?   I'm trying to use Shark to determine which method(s) are taking the most time in my iPhone app. After sampling, I get this: Clicking the "!" button yields: Shark was unable to find symbol information for this address range. Typically this happens because the application was compiled without symbols or they have been subsequently stripped away. In Xcode, make sure the "Generate Debug Symbols" checkbox is selected (passes the -g flag to the compiler). Note that this does not affect code optimization, and does not typically alter performance significantly. However, the extra symbol information does consume significantly more space and may bloat the size of the executable. But I AM using the Debug option, and I am running on my Device. And Generate Debug Symbols IS checked. So what's wrong?

  Hi all, I'm not sure if this is possible (complete non-flash developer speaking), but we have a 3rd party component that we want to only show a certain topleft hand portion of. I've tried limiting the size of the HTML object container as: <object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="600" height="415" data="<url>"> <param name="movie" value="<url>" /> <param name="wmode" value="transparent" /> <param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /> <param name="quality" value="high" /> <param name="flashvars" value="<vars>" /> </object> So limiting it to 600x415, but this causes horizontal and vertical scrollbars as part of the flash component to appear. Is there any standard way to override this behaviour? Thanks.

  I find the algorithm description in AIMA (Artificial Intelligence: A Modern Approach) is not correct at all. What does 'necessary' mean? What is the memory limit? The queue size or processed nodes?   Hi! I'm using ASANT to run a xml file which points to a NARS.jar file. (i do not have the project file of the NARS.jar) I'm getting "java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space. I used VisualVM to look at the heap while running the NARS.jar, and it says that it max uses 50 MB of the heapspace. I've set the initial and max size of heapspace to 512 MB. Does anyone have an ide of what could be wrong? I got 1 GB physical Memory and created a 5 GB pagefile (for test purpose). Thanks in advance.

• Adding a JPanel to another JPanel having TableLayout

  I am trying to develop a map editor in java. My map window receives as a constructor a Map object. From that map object i am able to retrieve the Grid and every item in the grid along with other getters and setters. The problem is that even though the Mapping extends JComponent, when I place it in a panel it is not painted. I have overridden the paint method to satisfy my needs.
