    I have bash script which has lots of echo statements and also I aliased echo to echo -e both in .bash_profile and .bashrc, so that new lines are printed properly for a statement like echo 'Hello\nWorld' the output should be Hello World but the output I am getting is Hello\nWorld I even tried using shopt -s expand_aliases in the script, it doesn't help I am running my script as bash /scripts/scriptnm.sh; if I run it as . /scripts/scriptnm.sh I am getting the desired output...

  • Error opening microsoft.com in Windows 7

    I need help with my browsers. In Windows 7 Basic I have 2 browsers installed: Internet Explorer 8 and Google Chrome. When I try to open pages which are associated with Microsoft (like Live and others), my browser crashes; Internet Explorer 8 crashes too. But Opera (I've installed it later) works fine with those pages. P.S. I tried to scan my PC for trojans and viruses, but it's clean.

    I am using Word 2007, but saving my documents in .doc (as opposed to .docx) formats because that's company policy. I have the ToC set up fine, but is there a way to have it update automatically (at document open, save or otherwise)? Word help suggests that it should update upon opening the document, but that doesn't seem to happen. Any ideas?

But I need the domain users to be able to get to our company website with the same name (http://example.com) that's hosted out there on a third party's server. I know this has something to do with adding a DNS record, but I don't know what type. I would experiment, but I don't want to break the whole works!

  • Adding an assembly to the GAC

    Somehow my GAC got messed up, System.Core.dll was unregistered or something. I don't have the win7 sdk so I can't just use gacutil. Is there some way I can add the single assembly to the gac? Or some way to download JUST gacutil? Is the GAC stored in the registry? If so, where? Thanks for the help, this is a pretty ugly bug.

    Hi people, i recently buy WD Mybook Essential HDD 1 TB. I downloaded and install Smartware software in both my desktop (windows xp) and laptop (Windows 7) but in both case the s/w is not able to detect the external hard disc. It shows desktop/laptop (Whichever is apt) on left hand side of software but not the hard drive on right side. Why so? i need to install smartware s/w as my friend had gave me which i suppose had deleted the software. please help me thanks

    On my laptop (Dell Inspiron 1525), when ever I press Num Lock, they keys which you would normally press to get numbers with num lock on, only show up as letters. I've tried pressing function instead of num lock, but that doesn't work either. Can Any Body Help?

    I have a big problem with my laptop, My laptop loss it's connectivity to internet randomly! for Example sometimes it's ok up to 1h but usually the problem occurred after 5 min.     I need to connect to a VPS and I'm running Vista Home Basic. TightVNC and TeamViewer both require access to the VPS first, because they require that the server be set up with TightVNC or TeamViewer. Is there anything similar to Remote Desktop that will allow me to use the IP address and administrator password to the VPS to simply connect, rather than having to have the hosting company set up VNC or TeamViewer on the server first?     What I am trying to do is create two-step verification to logon to my mac, one being that you would need to input a SD card (formated with special format or something) and then also have a password. Is there any software out there that could do this or any way of programming it so that once it reads the SD Card it makes the password bar visible for logon.     I am using the google dns servers most of the time, but for one particular wifi connection it blocks that ip so I have to revert back to automatically choosing DNS... The problem now is everytime I connect to this network, I have to change it back to automatic DNS manually (ironically), it's stuck on using the google DNS by default... It's a trivial problem, but would be fab if someone can help me out here...

  • mint linux, DVD drive keeps randomly being accessed. unsure how to find culprit

    I have a workstation with mint linux 12. It seems like the DVD drive on the machine keeps randomly "activating". By activating it makes noise, the light turns on, and it seems like it is checking if a disk is in it. At first I thought I was being hacked and someone/something was trying to check if I had media in the DVDRom drive. I ruled that out with netstat and rkhunter.
