• Basic question about request queues in IIS / ASP.Net

  I have an ASP.Net application running under IIS 6. A simple page has two radio buttons and a submit button. If I select radio button "A" and submit the page, a lengthy PDF file is generated, which takes about a minute to build. If I select radio button "B", a small PDF is generated. (In both cases the PDF is written out to the Response object and it opens in my browser.) If I select radio button "A" and submit, then hit the red X in my browser to stop the current request, then select radio button "B" and resubmit, the page still takes a long time to process my request. No doubt my first request is still being processed on the server, but I was wondering how IIS and/or ASP.Net are queuing my requests so that fair server use is guaranteed among all users. Am I roughly correct in assuming something like this happens, and if so, how is it done?

• Why does dojo parsing time depend on css and images availability?

  I have been profiling javascript on my page that uses dojo widgets. I don't use explicit parsing - the parser runs on page load. What I noticed is that if I clear browser cache before refreshing the page, dojo parsing takes much more time than if all the files are already cached. Note that we build all the required dojo modules into a layer (a single file), so we don't lazy-load any js files. I wonder if dojo parsing process depends on images and css resources, as far as I know it only instantiates widgets and injects dom nodes. Do you have any ideas why dojo parser runs longer (2-3 times longer in my case) when the cache is cleared?

• Play Shoutcast MP3 radio stream with Python?

  I have managed to create an online radio station using Shoutcast and Sam Broadcaster. Now, I am wanting to build my own player for that radio station. I am not sure where to begin, I have googled, but no luck. I am using Python 2.6 on Microsoft Windows. I have managed to capture the stream and save it as an MP# on the hard disk, just not sure what to do with it next. I tried playback of the file, but it always pulls up errors. • How do I combine an unmanaged dll and a managed assembly into one file?

  SQLite from PHX Software has combined a managed assembly (System.Data.SQLite) with an unmanaged dll (the SQLite 32- or 64-bit dll) into one file, and managed to link them together. How do I do this? Do I need to embed the managed assembly into the unmanaged dll, or vice versa? ie. my questions are: In which order do I need to do this? What tools or knowledge do I need in order to do this? How (if different) do I link to the exported functions from the unmanaged dll in my managed code? The reason I ask this is that I want to build a managed zLib wrapper. I know there is managed classes in .NET but from experience they're a bit limited (and a bit boneheaded in that they don't do proper buffering), so I'd like to create my own copy, also because I want to learn how to do this. So does anyone know what I need to do and how?

• GenerateBootstrapper fails to create a working setup.exe

  I’m seeing some odd behaviour I can’t explain. I'm using wix to generate a msi and using the msbuild GenerateBootstrapper task to handle pre-requisites. It all seems to build correctly i.e. there are no error or warnings but the generated setup.exe won’t run. It gives a nice blank error dialog and the event log gives about the same information. The kicker is that if I drop to the command line and run msbuild manually on the project and specify the bootstrapper target it generates a correct and working setup.exe. I've used this wix article as a base and a number of questions on StackOverflow to no avail. Has anyone seen this behaviour before, better still a fix?

  I have a project under continuous integration and would like to add end user documentation to the project. The end user documentation is a user manual, not API documentation. In our environment we use windows, c#, msbuild, cruisecontrol.net and subversion. We are currently using DocToHelp to create our help file, which is based on an msword document. I'm looking for some guidance on how to manage the end user documentation. What documentation tools should I use? Should any of the documentation tools be part of the build script? Should the output files from the documentation tool be stored in subversion? What type of help files would be best to use?

• Java2D: Fill a convex rounded polygon (QuadCurves)

  Hi, If I have a QuadCurve like this (+ = node): + + \ ./ +--?? And I fill it in Java 2D the result is something like this: (x = colored) +xxxxxxxxx+ \xxxxxx./ +--?? But I want to color the other side: + + x\ ./x xxx +--??xx xxxxxxxxxxx This succeeds by drawing a rectangle around the curve in the color I want to color the other side and then fill the curve with the background color. But this isn't good enough to fill a convex rounded (based on QuadCurves) polygon. In case of some coordinates for the rectangles (as explained in the trick I used) overlap other pieces of the polygon. Here are two images (the green area is my polygon): So, the question is simple: "How can I color a shape build of curves?" But to the answer will not be simple I think... • Why is activeX failing to create an object from a Labview executable?

  Here is my scenario. I am using Quicktest Pro (VB) to create an ActiveX object from a Labview VI that I built into an executable. In the build specs of the VI I have enabled ActiveX server option (ActiveX server name: "MyLabviewProgram") and in the VI ToolsOptionsVI Server: Configuration the ActiveX box is checked. So in QTP my code is: Set IvApp = CreateObject("MyLabviewProgram.Application") Set Vi = IvApp.getVIReference("MyLabviewVI.vi") Vi.Call ParamNames, ParamVals Upon running this I get a Run Error on the first line: ActiveX component can't create object: 'MyLabviewProgram.Application' I am having trouble figuring out why it errors. From National Instruments website they have a step in on one of their community pages about "LabVIEW Executable Used as ActiveX Server". The step is after building the EXE, 5. Run the EXE at least once on the target to activate the .TLB file. I've run the executable but not sure what they mean by on the target. Does anyone have a suggestion on what I need to do to get this working?

  Hello, In 2004, I received my B.S. in Computer Science using mostly Java for programming. Since then, I have been hired for purely front-end positions in large companies through recruiters, doing primarily HTML/CSS, Javascript/jQuery, and OOP Actionscript 3. While I definitely have respect for the front-end, and have learned much, I feel very unfulfilled and would love to move into back-end for the more complex programming I was doing in school. My target platform of choice is ASP.Net 3.5 (C#). With a resume that has absolutely no .Net or back-end experience, how can I transition into a junior back-end job? I am currently freelancing a .Net e-commerce site, and plan to build a portfolio showcasing some apps (e-commerce mvc, blog, etc), while learning the technology. Is having a Bachelors in CS enough or should I look into getting .Net certified? Is showing course-work still relevant to an employer even though it was from 6 years ago? Thank you

  i have this controller(visits.php) that use 3 models to build page, then it pass 4 vars to a view. this view contain a form that submit to another page (add_user.php) my question is how can i send the user back to visits.php in case the for_validation is false ? do i have to reload visits.php allover again ?-waste of resourss- or i should just send him back in history with js or php header for example ? can u plz show me an example of how u best handle false result of form_validation ? • Best approach for a scalable PHP (AJAX based) chat system

  Hi, I'm building a chat system for a company and I'm wondering as to what the best way to build the system would be? The current setup we have is a Nginx HTTP Server with PHP and Memcacheq (as a message queue that appends the chat messages to the user's own queue). We then poll the Nginx server (through a Comet style request) and query the message queue for updates. Is it a good idea to use a message queue such as Memcacheq to handle a chat system that has both user-to-user and site-wide chat or is it best to just stick to MySQL? Thanks!

  I'm beginning the process of learning the ins and outs of developing sites for mobile web browsers. Are there any good resources/communities online that discuss mobile specific site development issues? My initial understanding is that to cover different phones you need to build one site that is enabled for browsers with the webkit engine (iphone, android, etc.) and another more basic site for other older browsers, is this assumption correct? Also what does developing for webkit mean exactly? How is it different than just using javascript/css/html? Is it the same except that you limit yourself to webkit specific functions and css? I looked on the webkit site, but it didn't explain it in those terms. Are there any other snafus I need to watch out for when developing for mobile browsers?

• Windows Azure - Microsoft.IdentityModel not found

  I installed WIF runtime and SDK on my machine. I added Microsoft.IdentityModel.dll to my azure web application and locally everything is running great. I build simple web application which use Azure AppFabric Access control. I follow azure labs for that and as I told, local everything is great. When I published my web application to Azure, I'm getting following error : Unable to find assembly 'Microsoft.IdentityModel, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35'. I get it after Appfabric Relaying part is going to return url, after sign in on identity provider. The weird thing is that I set Copy Local to TRUE, because that .dll is not part of Azure GAC. I tried to publish it again, but I received same error. I found few same problems on the internet but with no concrete solution. Does anybody here had something similar and probably have a working solution? Thank you in advance

• How to create a custom ADO Multi Demensional Catalog with no database

  Does anyone know of an example of how to dynamically define and build ADO MD (ActiveX Data Objects Multidimensional) catalogs and cube definitions with a set of data other than a database? Background: we have a huge amount of data in our application that we export to a database and then query using the usual SQL joins, groups, sums etc to produce reports. The data in the application is originally in objects and arrays. The problem is the amount of data is so large the export can take 2 hours. So I am trying to figure out a good way of querying the objects in memory, either by a custom OLAP algorithm or library, or ADO MD. But I haven't been able to find an example of using ADO MD without a database behind it. We are using Delphi 2010 so would use ADO ActiveX but I imagine the ADO.NET MD is similar. I realize that if the application data was already stored in a database the problem would solve itself. Also if Delphi had LINQ capability I could query the objects and arrays that way.

• What Are Basic Tools For A New Project?

  For a long time, I thought that to start a new project we only need 3 basic tools. 1) A Build System (e.g. Maven & CruiseControl) 2) A Version Control System (e.g. CVS & SVN & GIT) 3) A Bug Tracking System (e.g. Bugzilla) Yesterday, a senior guy told me that we need at least one thing more. That is KPI(Key Performance Index). Without KPI, it is impossible to measure whether the project is progressing well or not. KPI is kind of SOFT tool compared to Maven/SVN/Bugzilla. I believe since I missed SOFT tools, there must be some other kind of tools I missed. So, anybody get some ideas what other basic tools necessary for a new project?

Ideally I'd run the application on Mono, and build a native Cocoa UI for it. I'm wondering which bridge would be the best choice. While some request message come from the client socket, the server emulator will response the client through the socket. the response is response code. '00' will describe request message processed successfully, and another response code expect '00' will describe there are some error while processing the message request. IN the server there are some UI, this UI contain check response parameter such as. response code timeout interval While the server want to response the client message, the response code taken from input parameter response form UI check the timeout interval, it will create sleep thread and the interval taken from timeout interval input from UI. I have implement the function, but I create it in one class. I feel it so sucks. Can you suggest me what class / interface that I must create to refactor my code.
