  • Exchange 2003 very reliant of 1 on 4 AD servers, Freezes without it

    On-site we have 3 of 4 AD servers (AD1,AD2 and AD4) with AD1 having most of the Operational Master Roles, however when AD2 goes down, freezes or reboots outlook says 'waiting for exchange server AD2', when exchange is on a different box completely. AD4 was just built from scratch and added hoping to get around this reliance on AD2 but it doesn't seem to have any effect, had a look through exchange settings and couldn't find any locations it points to AD2 and no other active directory servers. Would appreciate some help on the matter, Thank You

  • Can I read an Outlook (2003/2007) PST file in C#?

    Is it possible to read a .PST file using C#? I would like to do this as a standalone application, not as an Outlook addin (if that is possible). If have seen other SO questions similar to this mention MailNavigator but I am looking to do this programmatically in C#. I have looked at the Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook namespace but that appears to be just for Outlook addins. LibPST appears to be able to read PST files, but this is in C (sorry Joel, I didn't learn C before graduating). Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks! EDIT: Thank you all for the responses!     I'm moving to Google Apps and have setup dual-delivery. Everything is fine, but for mail sent internally (from [email protected] to [email protected]), Exchange is not using the send connectors I have pointing to Google's servers. I believe my question is similar to this question: How to force internal email through an smtp connector in exchange 2007 Again, if a user is connected to the Exchange server and tries to send to [email protected] it works just fine, but I cannot seem to force *@mydomain.com to route correctly. This should be a fairly simple, but according to this: google.com/support/forum/p/Google+Apps/thread?tid=30b6ad03baa57289&hl=en (can't post two links due to spam prevention) It does not seem possible. Any ideas?

    So far I have this code from outlookcode.com which I can get to work sending all emails I send to the BCC email. I am not a developer, so I don't have a lot of context to go about editing this myself, or even approaching researching this. If anyone knows how to make this check for words in the subject, or check if the subject equals a certain string, I'd really appreciate it.     My question is that I need to send attached mail to domain users and non domain users. Domain users will receive .lnk of the attached file where as non domain users will receive physical file. Now I am doing by capturing send event of outlook and internally divided mail in two parts for domain users I crated .lnk of the file and attached it and sent to user. Where as for non domain users i attached the physical file and sent to the user. But these things are done by sending two mails internally so I am not able to maintain CC, BCC information. I need to do these things in one mail. So it is possible in outlook addins to filter attachments accordingly to recipients.

  • Dropdown in Access 2007 parameter query. Why not working

    Hello, I want a Access parameter query to ask an user for a value (a location in this case). When I type [Enter location] in the Criteria field it works fine: I get a dialog box (Enter Parameter Value) with a textbox and my text (Enter Location). So far, so good. This works (the result also). But now I want a dropdown/combobox (instead of a textbox ) for the user to pick a location. I made a form and type Forms![Form1]![CmbLocation] in the Criteria field. Like this: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/access/HA011170771033.aspx But I still get a textbox (with the reference as textlabel). What am I doing wrong? Has anybody any advice?

    So I have a form that user's use for data entry, and on one form there is a text box there that is basically used. To enter notes. However, if the user hits i need the cursor to stay in that text box, and start a new line (uh....like word would)....but currently it is jumping to the next control (text box).   • Can someone confirm how Microsoft Excel 2007 internally represents numbers?

    I know the IEEE 754 floating point standard by heart as I had to learn it for an exam. I know exactly how floating point numbers are used and the problems that they can have. I can manually do any operation on the binary representation of floating point numbers. However, I have not found a single source which unambiguously states that excel uses 64 bit floating point numbers to internally represent every single cell "type" in excel except for text. I have no idea whether some of the types use signed or unsigned integers and some use 64 bit floating point. I have found literally trillions of articles which 1) describe floating point numbers and then 2) talk about being careful with excel because of floating point numbers. I have not found a single statement saying "all types are 64 bit floating point numbers except text". I have not found a single statement which says "changing the type of a cell only changes its visual representation and not its internal representation, unless you change the type from text to some other type which is not text or you change some other type which is not text to text". This is literally all I want to know, and it's so simple and axiomatic that I am amazed that I can find trillions of articles and pages which talk around these statements but do not state them directly.

  • Exchange server intermittently not receiving or delivering emails to a few addresses?

    This is a strange problem. We are using an Exchange 2007 server to handle the emails to and from the company. There are two main problems which are probably related. None of our mails sent to one single customer are ever received. When we send any type of mail to one particular customer, they never get it. We have confirmed the address and tried to send more to other mail addresses on the same domain and they still don't receive it. No error (email or otherwise) is ever issued. (Domain related? Blacklisted?) Sometimes (intermittently) a mail sent to our company (can be any address on our domain) is never received. I tried this the other day from home and sent a mail to my work address. It was never received. But then a day later i sent another and it was received fine (so the mail address is fine). No error (email or otherwise) is ever issued. Any ideas where to start looking for causes?

    Hi I am trying to send my cover letter and resume away but apparently it is too big to send through craigs list(my computer says the total size is 500kb) as it has a 600kb limit(so small should be at least a meg). Hi there. You recently tried to email Some job Email, an anonymous craigslist address. However, your message was too big to be sent through our system. Craigslist has a 600KB limit on the messages we'll send. Please reduce the size of your mail and try again. Thanks for using craigslist. So when I convert my word 2007(.docx) files to pdf they become huge. Like they got from 32kb to 320kb. So is there a way I can either get around craigslist limits or compress my pdfs a bit to make it happy. I don't want to send zips and stuff since the person who gets it might not even know what to do. I rather not send .docx since not sure if will have office 2007 or the compatibility view installed and I rather just send it as pdf(as some place require it anyways to be in pdfs). Thanks

  • User cannot book a room resource in Exchange 2010

    Im having a problem with a specific user not being able to book a room resource. No error message is generated at all. The user attempts to add the room as a meeting resource and it simply doesnt register with the resources calendar. I have tested the resource with other accounts and other rooms for this user but it is only this room that is having issues for this user. This Exchange server was migrated from 2007 to 2010. All rooms except for the problem room were created back on Exchange 2007. This new room was created with Exchange 2010. Maybe this clue has something to do with the problem?     We run Exchange 2003, but have a mix of Outlook 2003/2007/2010 in the environment. We have three rooms that need to be configured as resources. Some observations we've made with resource scheduling/booking are: Outlook 2010 users have trouble with the native Exchange 2003 resource scheduling method and require direct booking to be configured via registry Outlook 2007 users are unable to use direct booking (is this accurate?) Outlook 2003 users can only use the native Exchange 2003 resource scheduling method (is this accurate?) Direct booking cannot be combined with the auto-accept agent What is the correct way to setup resource scheduling in a mixed environment like this? Thanks, Daniel

    We have an environment that is based on an Active Directory domain (running Windows Server 2003 SP2), an internal email system using Exchange Server 2003 (internal mailbox, nothing online), and the clients run a mixture of MS Outlook 2007&2010, with the majority running 2007. Recently we noticed that Exchange server is taking so much space for mailboxes. We are examining some solutions to reduce space, and it seems that we could make use of the archiving feature to archive older messages. I can set the auto-archive option manually for every individual user, but is there any other easier way to automate that task? Is there any feature in exchange server or active directory domain that enables setting that as a kind of policy or something similar, or a script to be scheduled to run by all users?

    Hello, Title of my question may sound a little bit odd but I was thinking if Exchange 2010 or 2007 or any program that would work in conjunction with Exchange has ability to create this structure: Users having their normal mailboxes connected and using them as everyone would in Outlook 2003/2007/2010. Users having additional mailboxes (from old Exchange 2003) attached but hidden on demand of Administrator. For example administrator could easy disable them just like they never been attached making them invisible to users and everyone else. Would be good if such mailboxes could be easily removed out of system (lets say on external drive) by simple step not manual job for 100 mailboxes. Users without ability to copy/move their mails to outside storage (like a local .pst file)? Do you guys have any suggestions on this? I was thinking maybe using public folders but this seems like overkill and not really suited for this. And please don't ask me why I need this type of security (it's not something I requested).

  • Pros/Cons of switching from Exchange to GMail

    We are a medium-large non-profit company, with around 1000 staff and volunteers, and have been using MS Exchange (currently 2003) for our mail system for years. I recently attended a Google conference where they were positing that "Cloud computing is the way of the future", and encouraging us to switch from doing our own email with Exchange, to using GMail and Google Apps for everything. Additionally, one of our departments has been pushing from inside to do this transition within their own department, if not throughout the entire organization. I can definitely see some benefits - such as: Archive space - we never seem to have the space our users want, and of course, the more we get, the more we have to back up OS Agnostic - Exchange is definitely built for windows, and with mac and linux users on the rise, these users increasingly demand better tools / support. Google offers this. Better archiving - potential of e-discovery, that doesn't exist in a practical way with our current setup. Switching would relieve us of a fair bit of server administration, give more options to our end users, and free up the server resources we are now using for Exchange. Our IT department wants to be perceived as providing up-to-date solutions to technical problems, and this change would definitely provide such an image. Google's infrastructure is obviously much more robust than ours, and they employ some of the world's best security and network experts. However, there are also some serious drawbacks: We would be essentially outsourcing one of our mission-critical systems to a 3rd party The switch would inevitably involve Google Apps and perhaps more as well. That means we would have a-lot more at the mercy of a single (potentially weak) password. (is there a way to make this more secure using a password plus physical key of some sort??) Our data would not remain under our roof - or even in our country (Canada). This obviously has plusses on the Disaster Recovery side, but I think there are potential negatives on the legal side. I can't imagine that somebody as large as Google would be as responsive as we would want with regard to non-critical issues such as tracing missing emails, etc. (not sure how much access we would have to basic mail logs - for instance) Can anyone help me evaluate this decision? What issues am I overlooking? What experiences have you had with this transition (or the opposite - gmail to Exchange) Can you add to the points I have already outlined?

  • Exchange 2010 add mailbox server to DAG error

    Hello, i'm having some problems when adding a second mailbox server to my DAG in Exchange 2010. The test setup goes like this: 1x windows server 2008 (DC/DNS) 2x windows server 2008 (Exchange 2010) I have made sure all services are up and running and that the "Exchange Trusted Subsystem" account is set as a local admin. When i create a DAG i can add the first mailbox server (A) without any problems, but when i go to add the second (B) it gives me an error saying "Unable to contact the Cluster service on 1 other members (member) of the Database availability group. It does the same if i add (B) first and then try to add (A).   • How to use a local Leopard Server Mail server acting "like" an Exchange mail server

    We have a local Exchange 2003 server (company .local) who is collecting POP3 mail accounts on a distant (company .com) mailserver. The mails are collected by the Exchange server every 5-10 minutes and stored locally (on company .local), so the users can read them without going on the "real" mail server (company.com) What was explaned to me is that the mail collection is made with POP Now we are migrating on Snow Leopard Server. We have chosen to use a new extension for our local domain: .leo So our mailserver's FQDN is mail.company.leo, and the users have a user [email protected] formated mail address. A) All works fine except that I can't find how to tell the mail.company.leo that he must retreive the mails from the "real" public server (mail.company.com) I'm hoping to use IMAP and not POP. I can send mail using SMTP relay from mail.company.leo but (I know it's trivial) answering is not possible, even if I specify the reply-to as [email protected] (this seems to be related to A) ) I don't know if it's very complicated (I suspect not, but...) to achieve what I want to do, and I'm not a genius. But as I'm a little bit lost, I hopesomebody can or will help me. Solving this will allow us to use iCal invitations too, so a lot of services depends of these mailserver settings Some of you discuss the fact thta we choose to use a "new" tld with the .leo extension. We have no problem for that, we could use .local. no problem ;) We used .leo instead of .local just to differentiate the two systems (Exchange and SnowLeopardServer). The question was not about that, it was just to know if we can set a SnowLeopard mail server to act like an Exchange Server.   • When running PowerShell script as a scheduled task some Exchange 2010 database properties are null

    Hello, I've written a script that intends to retrieve the DatabaseSize of a database from Exchange 2010. I created a new AD user for this script to run under as a scheduled task. I gave this user admin rights to the Exchange Organization (as a last resort during my testing) and local admin rights on the Exchange machine. When I run this script manually by starting powershell (with runas /noprofile /user:domain\user powershell) everything works fine. All the database properties are available. When I run the script as a scheduled task a lot of the properties are null including the one I want: DatabaseSize. I've also tried running the script as the domain admin account with the same results. There must be something different in the two contexts but I can't figure out what it is.
