• controling individual pins on a serial port

  I know that serial ports work by sending a single stream of bits in serial. I can write programs to send and receive data from that one pin. However, there are a lot more other pins on the serial port connection that normal aren't used but from documentation all seem to have some sort of function for signalling as opposed to data transfer. Is it possible in any way to cause the other pins that are not used for direct data transfer to be controlled individual? If so, how would i go about doing that?

Even though I'm pretty certain the .connect() function should be available as part of dojo's base functionality, I've 'required' it explicitly: dojo.require("dojo._base.connect"); Any ideas as to why this might be happening?

  I am using JBOSS 7 AS. I am deploying the projects via the linux box by the cmd like so bin/standalone.sh -b [ipaddress] This works fine only when i am on the network, however it doesn't work when i'm outside the network or over the internet. How do i launch it so people can access it over the internet? I tried this but it doesnt work. bin/standalone.sh -b 0.0.0.0 It says: Google Chrome could not load the webpage because took too long to respond. The website may be down, or you may be experiencing issues with your Internet connection.

• Apache 2.2 / Win7 - slow or not responsive

  My configuration - Windows 7 x64, Php 5.3, Apache 2.2.15, latest Mysql. When loading pages from localhost, the response time shown by firebug is more 530ms for the main 'index.php' file, sometimes the connection is reset. It's painfully slow. I googled the problem and found a workaround - switch off and on again a win service called BFE - base filtering engine. Then everything works like a lightning but xdebug doesn't work in netbeans. Why is this response time so long? Can you think of any other solution than BFE toggling? joey33

  Hi I'm developing an activity that binds to a local service (in onCreate of the activity): bindService(new Intent(this, CommandService.class), svcConn, BIND_AUTO_CREATE); I would like to be able to call methods through the IBinder in my lifecycle methods, but can not be sure that onServiceConnected have been called prior to these. I'm thinking of handling this by adding a queue of sorts in the ServiceConnection implementation, so that the method calls (Command pattern) will be executed once the connection is established. My questions are then: Is this stupid, any better ways? :) Are there any specification for which thread will be used to execute the ServiceConnection callbacks? More to the point, do I need to worry about synchronizing a queue datastructure?   Does any US wireless carrier offer individuals or companies with a direct connection to the SMSC? The number is 747-772-3101 (repalce 7's with 6's) This number is registered to t-mobile, also verified by t-mobile to be a valid subscriber sending 160,000+ text messages monthly and that all they have is an unlimited text messaging plan on top of the cheapest voice plan. This company of the number verified to me that they don't use gsm modems as they are too slow. So I know it's possible but who would I contact, Sales or anyone else reachable through a 1-800 is ignorant to these services and developer.t-mobile is worthless and doesn't reply to emails. Any info??

  I had a crazy thought about writing my own SQL Server driver to make it work something like non-blocking http client, so it won't be thread thirsty and could handle lots of db queries within one thread. I tried to look over google for some guidelines about implementing SQL Server client protocol, but found none really, where do those guys get information about it when they write own implementations for PHP or python? I need a really low level to be documented so I can implement all phases of working with a connection through sockets. And would be really nice to have a an example in c# language. :)

• WCF: connecting to service over internet times out

  Still on the WCF learning curve: I've set up a self-hosted WCF Service (WSDualHttpBinding), which works fine on my own computer, which resides behind a firewall. If I run the client on my own computer, everything works great. Now I installed the client on a computer outside my network, and I'm trying to access the service via a dynamic DNS, like so: http://mydomain.dyndns.org:8000/MyService. My port forwarding issues were taken care of in a previous question; I can now see the service is up in my browser. But now when I try to run the client on the other machine, I get the following error message: "The open operation did not complete within the allotted timeout of 00:01:00. The time allotted to this operation may have been a portion of a longer timeout." I have disabled security on the service, so that's not it. What else might be preventing the connection from happening?

  Hi, I've been recently trying to connect to a hosted MySQL using Java but can't get it to work. I can connect to a local MySQL with localhost using: connect = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:mysql://localhost/lego?" + "user=******&password=*******"); (Replacing the astrisks withmy username and password) I can connect to the hosted MySQL database fine with PHP using: mysql_connect('mysql.hosts.co.uk','******','**********'); mysql_select_db('test'); My problem is, I cannot connect via Java. I have an Exception which is caught if the connection doesn't work and this is always printed out. Any ideas why it isn't working? Am I doing something wrong? Thanks for your time, InfinitiFizz

• Applet problem with IPlanet and Firefox (class not found)

  I have an applet which loads nicely when accessed locally (both IE and Firefox). However, when I put my webpage in a webserver (local IPlanet), it refuses to load on Firefox (but still fine on IE). • jquery load php file - result is not complete

  I'm trying to load or better reload a DIV with content from an included php file. so the file is included in the webadmin.php from the location webadmin/pages.php. Then i alter some data in the DB through serializing. Now I would like to reload the pages.php from the callback of the serialize POST with load();. This all works fine up until the moment the data is supposed to be displayed in the div - i believe its because the php file is loaded from a different location, so the include paths for the DB Connection etc are probably wrong... Should I really write an extra PHP File for jquery or is there a way to tell jquery where to load it from? Its the first time I'm doing this - so bear with me for a moment on this one... Thanks! I've tried something like this: Socket s = new Socket("www.google.com", 80); String ip = s.getLocalAddress().getHostAddress(); s.close(); This seem to work on some cases, but sometimes it returns the loopback-address or something completely different. Also, it requires internet connection. Does anyone got a more accurate method of doing this?

  What is the best way to check if an instance of Microsoft SQL Server is up? I have a view that spans two instances of Microsoft SQL Server but before querying it in a stored procedure I would like to verify that the second instance of the server is up with a fallback option of just querying local data. The second instance is a linked server. Currently I'm considering a SQL CLR function that can attempt to open a connection with a shorter timeout but I'm wondering if it's something that can be done directly in Transact SQL.

• Intentionally get a "MySQL server has gone away" error

  I'm trying to cope with MySQL's error MySQL server has gone away in a django env. The quick workaround was to set the global wait_timeout MySQL variable to a huge value, but in the long run this would accumulate to many open connections. I figured I'll get the wait_timeout variable and poll the server in smaller intervals. After implementing this I tried to test it but am failing to get the error. I set global wait_timeout=15 and even set global interactive_timeout=15 but the connection refuses to disappear. I'm sure I'm polling the database in larger intervals than 15sec. What could be the cause for not being able to recreate this error?

For https url connection I am using : HttpURLConnection con = (HttpURLConnection)myurl.openConnection(); con.setDoOutput(true); con.setDoInput(true); con.setUseCaches(false); InputStream ins = con.getInputStream(); con.setRequestProperty("Content-type","text/xml"); So, from above code I am getting responded XML from server. Now my question is which would be best parser for me to parse responded xml data to my Simple Java Object. I have goggled alot on that, and getting various solutions but I have confuse for choosing appropriate one. if anybody have suggestion with some sample example, then please provide..   I have very simple named query on JPA (toplink ): UPDATE Server s SET s.isECM = 0 I don't carry about cache or validity of already preloaded entities. But database connection is performed from restricted account (only INSERT/UPDATE/DELETE). It is appeared that toplink on this query executes (and failed since TL_Server is not exists) very strange SQL: INSERT INTO TL_Server (elementId, IsECM) SELECT t0.ElementId, ? FROM Element t0, Server t1 WHERE ((t1.elementId = t0.ElementId) AND (t0.elementType = ?)) bind => [0, Server] What is this? How the simple UPDATE appears an INSERT? Why toplink queries TL_?
