• Perl not working with Nginx via fastcgi, cannot decipher error logs

  Im running CentOS 6.2, Nginx 1.2.3 following these Linode Instructions to get Perl to work with Nginx I've done everything upto the point of testing an actual Perl file. When I do this the browser says: The page you are looking for is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later. And my Nginx error-log shows the following: 2012/09/02 22:09:58 [error] 20772#0: *1 connect() failed (111: Connection refused) while connecting to upstream, client: 192.168.1.102, server: localhost, request: "GET / HTTP/1.1", upstream: "fastcgi://127.0.0.1:8999", host: "192.168.1.10:81" Im stuck at this point. Im not sure if it matters but I also have spawn-fcgi and php-fpm to serve up PHP files on this site, but that should be 100% seperate from the perl-fastcgi setup, different port, etc.. How can I troubleshoot this?

• How to send Windows key over VNC to Linux from Windows?

  Alright, so I'm running Linux with AwesomeWM on my home machine. I'm running x11vnc on that machine and I want to connect to it from a windows machine. So it suffices to say that I need the Windows key for my home machine to function. I really like TightVNC, but I have found that only RealVNC is able to send the Windows key presses that I need. My problem is that RealVNC is sorely lacking customization and I feel it's inferior to TightVNC and unusable. I know that Ctrl-Esc sends the windows key press in Tight but then I can't use it as a modifier key. Useless. Anyone have any ideas? I don't think it's a server issue since I've tried Tightvnc server on the linux machine and it still doesn't work, at least in TightVNC. It works with Real anyway. Oh and UltraVNC doesn't work either.

• Unknown MySQL server host - connection problem

  I am new to databases and I have been asked to look at a few tables and see how many records they have and some other information. I cannot access phpMyAdmin through cPanel, which is how I've always done it on my own server. I decided to download MySQL Workbench. I enter in all the information is asks: Hostname: mysite.startlogicmysql.com Port: 3306 Username: user. I press connect and get this Unknown MySQL server host 'mysite.startlogicmysql.com' (11004) Am I using the wrong hostname? I've seen a server name, a hostname in the server variables list which is something like custsql.eigbox.net and the server itself is custsql.eigbox.net In both cases the custsql is a little different than what I posted. I am not sure which one to use. If there is anything else anyone needs to know I can tell you. Tanks.

• Gre tunnel Linux Cisco

  I've created a GRE tunnel between LAN A and LAN B. LAN A is behind a router, and LAN B is behind a Linux box and this box has a pppoe interface. When i do tcpdump on Linux box i see that the traffic is routerd to Linux box (tunnel end), so my need is routing the tunnel traffic to internet. I've added these rules to my iptables script, and i stay unable to connect to internet from LAN A Permitting Linux to act as router (necessary to forward packets) echo "1" /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward iptables -A INPUT -p 47 -j ACCEPT iptables -A FORWARD -i ppp0 -j ACCEPT iptables -A FORWARD -m state --state ESTABLISHED,RELATED -j ACCEPT iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -o gre0 -j MASEQUARADE What i've forgot to set in this case?

• Reverse rdesktop or VNC overlay image!

  Hi all. I've got a central server (linux based) and many clients (Windows XP Embedded, afaik) in public places around my country. I need to have these clients to connect to the server with a "reverse" tunnel, that is to say that I need to control the clients from the server but the connection is initialized by clients. The requirement is that, during the connection, an overlay image (or something like that, like a modified version of login screen) is displayed. Some stuff like "Work In Progress". My first idea was to use vncviewer -listen and vnc in reverse mode, but cannot understand how to obfuscate the work I'm doing. Other idea was to use rdesktop in "reverse" mode, but it seems it does not support it. Using rdekstop reverse seems the nicest solution (I can login back the user was in before connection, the login manager - which I can modified - is displayed), but any hint will be appreciated! • Motorola SBG6850 / Linksys WRT54G network problem

  I am trying to resolve issues with connecting my desktop and LAN capable printer to my network. I recently upgrade to the Motorola Cable Modem Gateway SBG6580 and have TWC coming into it, this works great for wired and wireless connectivity. Although, I am unable to connect to my device from this modem gateway. So, I am trying to cable a Linksys WRT54G (firmware 4.21.4 build 0) to the backside of the SBG6850 so I can use my printer on my network from both my wired desktop and wireless devices. I am pulling wireless off of the SBG6580 and do not want to change this. I have disable the wireless feature on the Linksys WRT54G at this moment. Can someone please help me through this dilemma? I am open to both wired and wireless solutions, but please tell me which approach your sharing in the first line of your response. Cheers!

• Computer disappeared from Workgroup

  I've a LAN that has 8 computers running Windows XP and only one (Computer A) running Windows Server 2003. When computer A boots, it shows up in all computers' Workgroups, but after 15-30 minutes, it disappears from the Workgroup in all computers, including itself. However, files can still be transferred from and to A via full path shortcuts and network drive maps still work. I don't know if this has anything to do with the problem or not, but if that particular computer is turned on while the LAN cable is plugged in, it doesn't connect to the network, but it connects if the cable is plugged in after the computer is run. Any tips why this is happening? Thanks.

• Cannot activate windows 7

  I can't activate Windows 7, I get an error saying DNS name does not exist. Is something configured incorrectly somewhere? PS: I need the answer within 13 days ;) UPDATE: I had upgraded from my company's Windows Vista build, and when I connect to the company VPN and activate I get a different error: The Software Licensing Service reported that the computer could not be activated. No Key Management Service (KMS) could be contacted. Please see the Application Event Log for additional information. • Why is my Internet connection randomly dropping?

  Ever since I have installed 12.04 (clean install not an upgrade), i have been having a drop in the Internet connection. The drop in the connection can be anything from 15 seconds to about 3 mins, and then the connection comes back. This behaviour happens while I am actively browsing the Internet, or if I wake up the computer and open Firefox (sometimes I have connection and sometimes I don't) . Please note that when the internet connection is on, it is not slow (as speedtest.net results show) In the beginning, I thought it was a problem with the driver r8169 for my RTL8111/8168B Ethernet card, so I downloaded the r8168 from Realtek website, followed the detailed instructions (blacklisted r8169, changed the file to '.bsh' ...), but still the same problem persisted. So I switched to a wireless connection, and I got the same problem with internet connection dropping randomly. Any ideas? • Software solution to switch between computers using KVM switch

  I am using a Fling KVM switch (by Belkin), to connect 2 computers to my monitor One computer is running XP and the other is running Linux My wireless switching mechanism has just gone the way of the saints but Belkin has kindly supplied a software solution for this occurrence. There is a small app called Fling (surprising) that allows me to switch from the XP machine to the Linux machine but nothing to switch back to the XP. What I need to know is there a similar app for the Linux computer. (NB I have tried Synergy but have no idea how to set it up - I've been told that synergy might work). Thanks in advance Norm

• Remote Desktop connection repeatedly aborting

  I connect to my workplace computer using Remote Desktop. After 1-2 minutes the application freezes to tell me after one more minute that the connection was aborted. It then reconnects. Everything works again for 1-2 minutes. Then the process repeats. Probably Forever. My coworkers do not experience such problems when connecting to the workplace. My workplace computer: Windows 7 32bit My home computer: Windows 7 64bit connected to the internet via WLAN-router with integrated ADSL modem (Linksys WAG200G) Things I already tried to fix the problem: disabled the Windows firewall disabled the other firewall reduced the MTU upgraded the firmware on the router configured port-forwarding to forward all packets to my home computer The problem remains unchanged. What could be the cause of the connection aborts? What else can I try to fix the connection? Thanks in advance.

• The emergence of Atlassian's Bamboo (and a free SQL Source Control license offer!)

  The rise in demand for database continuous integration has forced me to skill-up in various new tools and technologies, particularly build servers. We have been using JetBrain's TeamCity here at Red Gate for a couple of years now, having replaced the ageing CruiseControl.NET, so it was a natural choice for us to use this for our database CI demos. Most of our early adopter customers have also transitioned away from CruiseControl, the majority to TeamCity and Microsoft's TeamBuild. However, more recently, for reasons we've yet to fully comprehend, we've observed a significant surge in the number of evaluators for Atlassian's Bamboo. I installed this a couple of weeks back to satisfy myself that it works seamlessly with Red Gate tools. As you would expect Bamboo's UI has the same clean feel found in any Atlassian tool (we use JIRA extensively here at Red Gate). In the coming weeks I will post a short step-by-step guide to setting up SQL Server continuous integration using the Red Gate command lines. To help us further optimize the integration between these tools I'd be very keen to hear from any Bamboo users who also use Red Gate tools who might be willing to participate in usability tests and other similar research in exchange for Amazon vouchers. • Two identical fiber optic broadband lines working as one

  I have been trying to find an answer to this, but all I can find is hobbyists trying to connect their Linksys devices to get some magic out of them. I am looking for a way I could combine two 100Mbit fiber optic lines into a single connection for our office. I assume it involves some Cisco learning or something similar. Do I need to configure some big router to load-balance the NATing in some way? I assume that many of you have done something similar and hope someone could share their knowledge or at least provide me some tips on how to do this.

• WPA2 authentication fails on Ubuntu 12.04 using Rosewill RNX-N1

  Decided to reduce the clutter in the house and replace a wired connection with a wireless one on my wife's system using USB network device Rosewill RNX-X1. I can see and connect to unprotected network, but WPA2 authentication repeatedly fails. RNX-X1 works on other systems (including TV); also have 2 of 'em and tried each. Worth noting that I recently switched from Comcast to CenturyLink and so switched routers. The system connected successfully to previous router (Linksys EA4500) using WPA2. Would think it is the router (Actiontec C1000A) but all other devices (TV, iPad, Windows, Blackberry, and Squeezebox) connect ok. • OpenSSH SFTP server with chroot()

  I am currently setting up an SFTP server but there is one detail I can't seem to figure out. When I add a user, I would like him to connect using his client and be able to write in his "root dir" right away. My Match case for the SFTP-users group currently has ChrootDirectory set as "/home/%u", and inside that directory I have to have a subdirectory owned by the user, while /home/%u itself is owned by root. Next to that, the "root dir" also has a couple files, .bashrc to name one. Is it possible to put these files somewhere else, remove them, or at least make them invisible to the user? Thanks

• Windows Azure Recipe: Mobile Computing

  A while back, mashups were all the rage. The idea was to compose solutions that provided aggregation and integration across applications and services to make information more available, useful, and personal. Mashups ushered in the era of Web 2.0 in all it’s socially connected goodness. They taught us that to be successful, we needed to add web service APIs to our web applications. Web and client based mashups met with great success and have evolved even further with the introduction of the internet connected smartphone. Nothing is more available, useful, or personal than our smartphones. The current generation of cloud connected mobile computing mashups allow our mobilized workforces to receive, process, and react to information from disparate sources faster than ever before. Drivers Integration Reach Time to market Solution Here’s a sketch of a prototypical mobile computing solution using Windows Azure: Ingredients Web Role – with the phone running a dedicated client application, the web role is responsible for serving up backend web services that implement the solution’s core connected functionality. Database – used to store core operational and workflow data for the solution’s web services. Access Control – this service is used to authenticate and manage users identity, roles, and groups, possibly in conjunction with 3rd identity providers such as Windows LiveID, Google, Yahoo!, and Facebook. Worker Role – this role is used to handle the orchestration of long-running, complex, asynchronous operations. While much of the integration and interaction with other services can be handled directly by the mobile client application, it’s possible that the backend may need to integrate with 3rd party services as well. Offloading this work to a worker role better distributes computing resources and keeps the web roles focused on direct client interaction. Queues – these provide reliable, persistent messaging between applications and processes. They are an absolute necessity once asynchronous processing is involved. Queues facilitate the flow of distributed events and allow a solution to send push notifications back to mobile devices at appropriate times. • Extend my LAN network

  i have a patch panel and hardwiring already setup in my office. The patch panel is 24-port and all the ports are engaged. All my switch ports are engaged. Now, I have a printer connected to a wall point (RJ45) which I want to shift to a new room where there is no LAN setup. I want to have two RJ45 wall plugs in the new room so that I can connect one RJ45 port to have my LAN in the new room and the other RJ45 wall port I want to use for my printer. There is no option other than LAN (no wireless). Please help me and tell me how do I get the two RJ45 wall plate plugs in the new room up and keep my LAN running. It is a little urgent for me. Please help.

• "Disk boot failure" error after installing Windows 7 on SSD

  I have a system with 3 SATA drives which runs fine. Got a new SSD drive and wanted to install a fresh Windows-7 on it. So I removed the boot drive and replaced it with the SSD drive. Installed Windows and when it was done, rebooted and now I get "Disk boot failure. Insert system disk and press enter" error message. I reinstall again and still same message. Removed the SSD and put back the original drive and I got the same message!! I checked the BIOS and things look good. Something is wrong. Two questions: 1- Why isn't the new Windows booting from the SSD? 2- Why isn't the machine booting using the previous working configuration anymore, after removing the SSD? I did connect it during the second Windows installation but it was the last drive in the SATA connector. Would Windows installer mess with its MBR sector?

• Connecting the Dots (.NET Business Connector)

  Recently, one of my colleagues was experimenting with Reporting Server on DAX 2009, whenever he used to view a report in SQL Server Reporting Manager he was welcomed with an error: “Error during processing Ax_CompanyName report parameter. (rsReportParameterProcessingError)” The Event Log had the following entry: Dynamics Adapter LogonAs failed. Microsoft.Dynamics.Framework.BusinessConnector.Session.Exceptions.FatalSessionException at Microsoft.Dynamics.Framework.BusinessConnector.Session.DynamicsSession.HandleException(Stringmessage, Exception exception, HandleExceptionCallback callback) We later found out that this was due to incorrect Business Connector account, with my past experience I noticed this as a very common mistake people make during EP and Reporting Installations. Remember that the reports need to connect to the Dynamics Ax server to run the AxQueries., which needs to pass through the .NET Business Connector. To ensure everything works fine please note the following settings: 1) Your Report Server Service Account should be same as .NET Business Connector proxy account. 2) Ensure on the server which has Reporting Services installed, the client configuration utility for Business Connector points to correct proxy account. 3) And finally, the AX instance you are connecting to has Service account specified for .NET business connector. (administration –> Service accounts –> .NET Business Connector) These simple checkpoints can help in almost most of the Business Connector related  errors, which I believe is mostly due to incorrect configuration settings.
