• Install Samba 3.0.24 on Ubuntu Server 10.04 from Source

  Has anyone had any luck compiling and installing Samba 3.0.24 on Ubuntu 10.04? I'm trying to set up realtime virus scanning on Samba shares (ClamAV) using the legacy version of Samba as it is the latest release supported by samba-vscan-0.3.6b. I'm no expert at this but I think I have all of the dependencies covered and I'm following the documentation with the source code but I'm getting errors as if there is a problem with the source code. I downloaded the source directly from http://ftp.samba.org/pub/samba/stable/samba-3.0.24.tar.gz After running ./configure and make, I get the following error. • Debugging Windows

  After installing VS 2008 on a new PC I noticed that the Autos and Locals windows did not show up when debugging. So I went to the logical place to find them View/Other Windows. No luck they were not there. I use VS every day but like a lot of folks I only need to install it every few years, usually with a new PC. So I forgot where they were. Finding them is easy, just start debugging a project and go to Debug/Windows. The Autos and Locals windows along with the others will be there. • Dolphin search bar missing. How can i get it back?

  A while ago, my search bar went missing in dolphin. If the search toolbar is checked for view/unhide, nothing shows up. I noticed if i check and uncheck the button to hide/unhide it, a small, thin content-less bar slightly pushes the rest of the toolbar up. i tried reconfiguring with dpkg, purging and reinstalling, etc. i left it alone as i thought it would be fixed in an update, but today i upgraded daolphin and it's still gone. any thoughts?

• Ubuntu scrollbars don't render on Cygwin X server

  I have an ubuntu 12.0.4 desktop. I have a Win7 laptop running Cygwin. I can display windows from the Ubuntu box on the Win7 laptop using the Cygwin X server, but the window is somewhat "degraded". Specifically, scrollbars are not rendering properly. I've used Ubuntu before, but this is the first time I've seen these odd scrollbar popups that are used in 12.04. I'm guessing the Cygwin X server is having trouble rendering that for some reason. In the Cygwin view, I see the slightly thicker vertical bar, but when I hover the mouse over it, nothing happens. I'd really prefer to get conventional scrollbars. Can I configure Ubuntu 12.0.4 to do this, which might result in Cygwin being able to display them?

• Graphic demonstrating emphasis of front end in web apps

  I remember stumbling across an amusing graphic a year or so ago which demonstrated the tiers of web development. The back-end was shown as a tiny box, but the front end was shown as a huge box crammed with lots of front-end technologies like AJAX, DHTML. This is all a vague recollection. Does anyone know where on the Intraweb this graphic might be? It was probably on a programming cartoon site, but I only view XKCD on a regular basis, and I couldn't find it on there. Although tagged as fun, my request does have a productive edge to it - it would be quite useful in driving home to my colleagues how UI top-heavy web application development has become.

  Java generics look quite different from those available in Scala, although both were designed by Martin Odersky. From my point of view, the design of generics in Java is worse, for instance: there is no possibility to specify variance one can get around the previous limitation by using wildcards, but this means the burden of specifying variance goes on the caller instead of the library designer one cannot use a type constructor in generics What were the constraints in Java that forced Odersky to design this mechanism for generics instead of the more flexible one he devised for Scala? Was he just savvier a few years later or there were actual limitations due to Java?

  I have view, for example GameView which extends SurfaceView . I have integrated Box2D physics in GameView. I have two widths , GameView width, height and Box2D physics world width ,height. I need to get the position of box2d world with the GameView co-ordinates. For example, Total width of screen = 240 Total height of screen = 320 Screen points needed to be mapped onto box2d co-ordinates (x,y) = 127, 139 For this i need to get the max width and height of the Box2d physics world. Is there is any way to get the max width and height of Box2d world. or Can i limit the width and height of box2d world within the screen resolution.

  SharePoint 2010 Training: more information You know that ECB Menu in SharePoint 2007? Well in SharePoint 2010 you can very easily move it around on any column you wish. What you do is, open the view in SharePoint Designer, then you click on the field you wish to see the ECB menu in, then you will see a little floatie button with this on it ">", then, you click on that floatie, and it shows a little popup with 2 checkboxes in it. "Common xsl:value-of Tasks"- Show List Item Menu- Show Link To Item You check the "Show List Item Menu" checkbox, and off you go - now the ECB menu is available on the other column. Enjoy! • Creating my own kill cam

  I plan on creating my own kill cam system for a sandbox tool set. After thinking about the mechanics of the kill cam itself, however, I'm quite lost. I'm trying to recreate the ones commonly seen in call of duty games that show, from the view of the killer, the actual killing scene. My Thoughts: -I can't just keep in memory when people kill others because I wouldn't know when to start the 'recording process'. There is on way for me to accurately determine when somebody is 'about' to kill someone. -My only real idea so far is to have a complete duplicate of everything loaded off to the side copying all the movement from the original world but with a 10 second delay. That way, all the kill cams would be 10 seconds long and the persons camera would just be moved to the second world of their killer. My Questions: Is there already an accepted way to do this? Does anybody have any good ideas for something like this? Thanks if you can!

  I'm looking to create a comparison and ranking system which allows users to view 2 items, click on the one that they feel is the better one and then get presented with 2 more random items and continue to do this until they decide to stop. In the background, I want the system to use these wins and loses to rank each item in an overall ranking table so I can then see what is #1 and what isn't. I haven't got a clue where to begin with the formula, but I image I need to log wins and loses. Any help/direction appreciated!

• Tor Vidalia Browser Problem

  So Vidalia is up and running fine but the browser has not installed properly, like it has before. Before I just clicked on the onion icon, it would say launching Tor..., You are now connected, the browser would start up and inform me I am connected to network with the browser page. Now, when I click Vidalia in the menu the onion icon appears at the top of my screen, which informs me I'm connected to the network. I can view a drop daown menu telling me about the network map and control panel but no browser to surf the tor network with. Is it because its a new version and using firefox normally is basically the same thing, because everything is now going through the tor network that way? Prob need to alter something or download the Browser seperatly don’t know. Thanks

• Is PluralSight worth the cost [closed]

  I am an looking at a few different supplemental learning courses to help me beef up my skills but unsure which one to use. I am interested in PluralSight because I work for the government and they use all Microsoft technologies for the most part. I like the courses on PluralSight but the price tag is pretty hefty. I am not sure how good the courses are because I cannot view the ones I want so I am a tad bit skeptical. I am sure some of you have PluralSight, do you think its a good investment for your learning or should I just stick with books/internet? Any suggestions?

  I found some time over the holidays to finalize the Azure edition of IdentityServer. http://identityserver.codeplex.com/releases/view/81206 The biggest difference to the on-premise version (and earlier Azure betas) is, that by default IdSrv now uses Azure Storage for all data storage (configuration & user data). This means that there is no need anymore for SQL Azure (which is still supported out of the box – just not the default anymore). The download includes a readme file with setup instructions. In a nutshell: Create a new hosted service and upload your certificates Modify the service configuration file in the download to your needs (signing cert, connection strings to storage…) Deploy the package via the portal or other tools Use the new Powershell scripts to add users If you encounter any problem, please give me feedback.

• Are there serious companies that don't use version-control and continuous integration? Why?

  A colleague of mine was under the impression that our software department was highly advanced, as we used both a build server with continuous integration, and version control software. This did not match my point of view, as I only know of one company I which made serious software and didn't have either. However, my experience is limited to only a handful of companies. Does anyone know of any real company (larger than 3 programmers), which is in the software business and doesn't use these tools? If such a company exists, are there any good reason for them not doing so?

• How to hide bind mounts in nautilus?

  Summary: How do I remove folders mounted via bind or bindfs in /etc/fstab from appearing as devices in nautilus left column, the "places" view? detailed: Hello, I mount various directories from my data partition via bind in /etc/fstab in my home directory, eg like this: #using bind: /mnt/sda5/bazon/Musik /home/Bazon/Musik none bind,user 0 0 #or using bindfs bindfs#/mnt/sda5/tobi/Downloads /home/tobi/Downloads fuse user 0 0 (Background: /dev/sda5 mounted to /mnt/sda5 is my old home partition, but I do not want to mount it as a home partition, as I always have at least 2 Linuxes on the computer ...) That works well, but since 12.10 every one of those items is listed in Nautilus in the left column under "Devices". (Where normally USB drives appear, etc.) This is a waste of space (as I have many of such mounts...) and so I would like to have these mounts hidden, just as it was before in 12.04. • Is Wordpress a good CMS for a Event Site? [closed]

  I plan on building a gallery/exhibition event site. so Locations are usually always the same an fall into 3 categorys (gallery, offspace, institution). then there is the Exhibition title the date and the participating artists. So I was wondering if Wordpress could handle such a site. it should be very data driving though, so all the information is in a list view on one site and can be ordered and queryed (which artists took part in which exhibitions and so on) Please tell me the cons and pros of using Wordpress for such a site and problems I could run into if I might plan to broaden the scope later on. thanks!

• OpenGL 2D Rasterization Sub-Pixel Translations

  I have a tile based 2D engine where the projection matrix is an orthographic view of the world without any scaling applied. Thus: one pixel texture is drawn on the screen in the same size. That all works well and looks nice but if the camera makes a sub-pixel movement small lines appear between the tiles. I can tell you in advance what does not fix the problem: GL_NEAREST texture interpolation GL_CLAMP_TO_EDGE What does “fix” the problem is anchoring the camera to the nearest pixel instead of doing a sub-pixel translation. I can live with that, but the camera movement becomes jerky. Any ideas how to fix that problem without resorting to the rounding trick I do currently?

• How to make room reflection using Cubemap

  I am trying to use a cube map of the inside of a room to create some reflections on walls, ceiling and floor. But when I use the cube map, the reflected image is not correct. The point of view seems to be false. To be correct I use a different cube map for each walls, floor or ceiling. The cube map is calculated from the center of the plane looking at the room. Are there specialized techniques to achieve such effect ? Thanks a lot !
