  • What happened to programming-books.com?

    - by Kurtosis
A couple years ago I found a great site called something like 'programming-books.com' (but not exactly that). It let users submit links to their favorite books for various programming languages, and write a short blurb about why they're so good. You could include their Amazon page and the website would grab a cover picture. I've since lost that bookmark and am trying to find it again, anyone know what site I'm talking about? Is it still around? (cross-posted @ hacker news)

  • union on the same table

    - by StupidDeveloper
    I have a table: ID | Id1 | Id2 1 | 100 | 12 2 | 196 | 140 3 | 196 | 141 4 | 150 | 140 5 | 150 | 199 I want to write a query that will give me a table containing records with the same ID2 and with id1 equal to 196 or 150. I thought about union: select * from table where itemId = 196 union select * from table where itemId = 150 but that doesn't cover the ID2 requirement. How should I do that?

  • Changing the style of a Combo-Box in WPF (in Blend preferably)

    - by George Sealy
I'm having some issues trying to change the look / style of a combo box in Expression Blend / WPF. While there are tutorials out there describing setting styles for buttons, there seem to be a few wrinkles with ComboBox controls. Can anyone offer any advice, or point me towards good tutorials that cover re-styling something more complex than a button?

  • website design - graphics files

    - by mb08
Hi Friends, I have a website to be designed and have most of the material ready with me. I have shortlisted a designer who is ready to start. The question I have is, should I hand over the original .psd graphics files of logo etc to the designer. Is it ok to hand over the .psds or is there any risk in doing so that I should be aware of and cover with an agreement... thanks in advance.. mb

  • Can I use a single DateTime field on the Entity Framework model side when the value is stored in a set of Int fields in the actual database?

    - by Ivan
The actual table in the database has separate integer fields for storing year, month, day, hour and minute values (all in UTC) (seconds and milliseconds are irrelevant for my task and considered equal to zero). Needless to say it would be of great convenience to have just one field of DateTime type on the application side and hide all the conversion under the cover of the Entity Framework model code. Any directions on how to do that? I am not very experienced with Entity Framework yet.

  • Bug in UITableView: Why is the section header covered by an row after deleting an row?

    - by mystify
When I delete a row like this, and then scroll a little bit, one of the rows of that section happens to cover the section header. - (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView commitEditingStyle:(UITableViewCellEditingStyle)editingStyle forRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { if (editingStyle == UITableViewCellEditingStyleDelete) { [dataManager deleteValueAtIndex:indexPath.row]; [tableView deleteRowsAtIndexPaths:[NSArray arrayWithObject:indexPath] withRowAnimation:UITableViewRowAnimationFade]; } } Is there any solution to this?

  • .NET Dictionary as a Property

    - by Anand
Can someone point me out to some C# code examples or provide some code, where a Dictionary has been used as a property for a Class. The examples I have seen so far don't cover all the aspects viz how to declare the dictionary as property, add, remove, and retrieve the elements from the dictionary.

  • C# & ASP.Net - determine linq query generation time

    - by Chris Klepeis
I'd like to detemine the amount of time it takes for my ASP.Net program to generate certain sql queries using linq.... note - I want the query generation time, not the query execution time. Is this possible, or even feasable (if its usually fast)? My website has some heavy traffic and I want to cover all of my bases.

  • How does Microsoft generate the Event ID for winqual events?

    - by Tim
I am curious about the IDs that are used to identify items in winqual. I assume it is some sort of hash. Is this published? Hash of the module name, its version and an offset? That seems appropriate but the size is too small to cover the possibilities unless some truncation/lossy algorithm is used. This seems to be generated with the minidump on the client machine.

  • Android non-full screen app startup during voice call

    - by STeN
Hello, Is it possible to start the application on the Android phone (starting with Froyo), when there is an incoming voice call? In other words, the incoming voice call should trigger the application startup. In such a case the application should not be full-screen, but should cover only part of the screen to not hide the native controls for accepting or rejecting the call. If it is not supported now - is anybody aware about some plans to support such a feature in future releases? Thanks a lot Kind Regards, STeN

  • graph algorithms on GPU

    - by scatman
the current GPU threads are somehow limited (memory limit, limit of data structures, no recursion...). do you think it would be feasible to implement a graph theory problem on GPU. for example vertex cover? dominating set? independent set? max clique?.... is it also feasible to have branch-and-bound algorithms on GPUs? Recursive backtracking?

  • sequence diagram [UML]

    - by Upul
Hi All, I have a question regarding sequence diagrams. When drawing sequence diagrams, Is it enough to draw one diagram per user case ? or do we need to draw a set of sequence diagrams to cover each user case instance ? (is a sequence of actions a system performs that yields an observable result of value to a particular Use Case Actor)

  • Why does Module::Build's testcover gives me "use of uninitialized value" warnings?

    - by Kurt W. Leucht
I'm kinda new to Module::Build, so maybe I did something wrong. Am I the only one who gets warnings when I change my dispatch from "test" to "testcover"? Is there a bug in Devel::Cover? Is there a bug in Module::Build? I probably just did something wrong. I'm using ActiveState Perl v5.10.0 with Module::Build version 0.31012 and Devel::Cover 0.64 and Eclipse 3.4.1 with EPIC 0.6.34 for my IDE. UPDATE: I upgraded to Module::Build 0.34 and the warnings are still output. *UPDATE: Looks like a bug in B::Deparse. Hope it gets fixed someday.* Here's my unit test build file: use strict; use warnings; use Module::Build; my $build = Module::Build->resume ( properties => { config_dir => '_build', }, ); $build->dispatch('test'); When I run this unit test build file, I get the following output: t\MyLib1.......ok t\MyLib2.......ok t\MyLib3.......ok All tests successful. Files=3, Tests=24, 0 wallclock secs ( 0.00 cusr + 0.00 csys = 0.00 CPU) But when I change the dispatch line to 'testcover' I get the following output which always includes a bunch of "use of uninitialized value in bitwise and" warning messages: Deleting database D:/Documents and Settings/<username>/My Documents/<SNIP>/cover_db t\MyLib1.......ok Use of uninitialized value in bitwise and (&) at D:/Perl/lib/B/Deparse.pm line 4252. • Problem with extending JPanel

    - by Halo
I have an abstract entity: public abstract class Entity extends JPanel implements FocusListener And I have a TextEntity: public class TextEntity extends Entity Inside TextEntity's constructor I want to put a JTextArea that will cover the panel: textArea = new JTextArea(); textArea.setSize(getWidth(),getHeight()); add(textArea); But getWidth() and getHeight() returns 0. Is it a problem with the inheritance or the constructor?

  • Returning different images through PHP.

    - by Espresso
There's a status indicator code for AIM which returns two different images depending on your status (on/offline) which was done in PHP and with the AIM API. <img src="http://big.oscar.aol.com/USERNAME?on_url=ON_IMAGE&off_url=OFF_IMAGE"> I was looking for a Last.fm widget that shows JUST the album cover I'm listening to or the last album I listened to, but couldn't find it. How do I go along making it using PHP and the Last.fm API.

  • Overwhelmed by design patterns... where to begin?

    - by Pete
I am writing a simple prototype code to demonstrate & profile I/O schemes (HDF4, HDF5, HDF5 using parallel IO, NetCDF, etc.) for a physics code. Since focus is on IO, the rest of the program is very simple: class Grid { public: floatArray x,y,z; }; class MyModel { public: MyModel(const int &nip1, const int &njp1, const int &nkp1, const int &numProcs); Grid grid; map<string, floatArray> plasmaVariables; }; Where floatArray is a simple class that lets me define arbitrary dimensioned arrays and do mathematical operations on them (i.e. x+y is point-wise addition). Of course, I could use better encapsulation (write accessors/setters, etc.), but that's not the concept I'm struggling with. For the I/O routines, I am envisioning applying simple inheritance: Abstract I/O class defines read & write functions to fill in the "myModel" object HDF4 derived class HDF5 HDF5 using parallel IO NetCDF etc... The code should read data in any of these formats, then write out to any of these formats. In the past, I would add an AbstractIO member to myModel and create/destroy this object depending on which I/O scheme I want. In this way, I could do something like: myModelObj.ioObj->read('input.hdf') myModelObj.ioObj->write('output.hdf') I have a bit of OOP experience but very little on the Design Patterns front, so I recently acquired the Gang of Four book "Design Patterns: Elements of Reusable Object-Oriented Software". OOP designers: Which pattern(s) would you recommend I use to integrate I/O with the myModel object? I am interested in answering this for two reasons: To learn more about design patterns in general Apply what I learn to help refactor an large old crufty/legacy physics code to be more human-readable & extensible. I am leaning towards applying the Decerator pattern to myModel, so I can attach the I/O responsibilities dynamically to myModel (i.e. whether to use HDF4, HDF5, etc.). However, I don't feel very confident that this is the best pattern to apply. Reading the Gang of Four book cover-to-cover before I start coding feels like a good way to develop an unhealthy caffeine addiction. What patterns do you recommend?

  • What's the best software development conventions document you have seen?

    - by Pavel Radzivilovsky
Google C++ development conventions outlaw exceptions, RAII, RTTI and bans the default parameter in parseInt(number, radix=10). Qt API style guide is brilliant, but only covers interfaces. The Robert C. Martin series Clean Code has M104 galaxy on the cover, but it is 462 pages long and based on Java, with no simple "do this" digest. Assuming that it is important to synchronize style and best practices across the organization, what is the smartest, most pleasant and useful conventions document you have worked with?

  • Is there any online free movie information api's?

    - by Gary Willoughby
For music there is the Gracenote CDDB SDK, etc. but does an online service exist for getting information about movies? The only solution i can see at the minute is querying IMDB and scraping the page. The problem i have is that i have a list of film titles and i want to retrieve stuff like the plot, director, cast, when released, get dvd cover art, etc..
