  • .NET How can i set field value on value type using reflection

    - by soccerazy
.NET I want to clone a value type's fields. How can i set a field value on a value type using reflection (or something else dynamically)? This works for reference types but not for value types. I understand why but I don't know an alternative. shared function clone(of t)(original as t) as t dim cloned as t 'if class then execute parameterless constructor if getType(t).isClass then cloned = reflector.construct(of t)() dim public_fields = original.getType.getFields() for each field in public_fields dim original_value = field.getValue(original) 'this won't work for value type, but it does work for reference type ??? field.setValue(cloned, original_value) next return cloned end function

  • .net web service: Can't add service reference, only web reference

    - by ScottE
I have an existing project that consumes web services. One was added as a service reference, and the other as a web reference. I don't recall why one was added as a web reference, but perhaps it's because I couldn't get it to work! The existing service reference for the one web service works fine, so it's not a .net version issue. I can successfully create a service reference for the second web service, but none of the methods are available. The .wsdl shows the schema, but the Reference.vb shows only the Namespace, and none of the methods. To clarify, these are two different 3rd party web service providers. We'd like to move to the service reference so we have more control over the configuration as we're having various issues with timeouts. Anyone come across this before? Edit Does it matter that there are two services at the address?

  • Calling a native callback from managed .NET code (when loading the managed code using COM)

    - by evilfred
Hi, I am really confused by the multitude of misinformation about native / managed interop. I have a C++ exe which is NOT built using CLR stuff (it is not Managed C++ or C++/CLI and never will be). I would like to access some code I have in a C# assembly. I can access the C# assembly using COM. However, when my C# code detects an event I would like it to call back into my C++ code. The C++ function pointer to call back into will be provided at runtime. Note that the C++ function pointer is a function found in the exe's execution environment. I don't want the managed code to try and load up some DLL to call a function (there is no DLL). How do I pass this C++ function pointer to my C# code through .NET and have my C# code successfully call it? Thanks!

  • How to structure VB.NET windows forms applications

    - by Jon
What is the best way to structure a VB.NET windows forms application so that code can be reused and the app can be extended easily. I used to create lots of new forms. This lead to lots of repeated code and forms which did similar things. Now, for forms which do similar jobs, such as view/edit/delete items from a specific db table, I create a form with the required controls, have the form create an instance of a class with params such as a collection of the controls and a string containing the db table name. Then the individual controls call functions of the class. Advanced forms will inherit and extend this basic form class. 1) Has there already been work done in this area? 2) Are there books / articles available which discuss the options available on this topic? Thanks!

  • How can I convert .eps files to .jpg in ASP.NET?

    - by Mike C
I am trying to convert uploaded .eps files to .jpg in my ASP.net application and I am having a hard time finding a .net library that will let me do this. I have tried using the ImageMagick libraries, but I don't have root access to the server in order to install the standard binaries, or run the command line executables. I have also tried the slightly modified project from CodeProject, but it was designed in VS2005 and I have VS2008 and 2010 and I think I run into some compatibility issues while trying to compile and execute the project. Is there a simpler solution available that just works natively in .NET? Thanks, Mike

  • Configurable UI Plugin frameworks for .NET Compact Framework

    - by Andy White
Is anyone aware of any frameworks for configuring UIs and possibly plugins for .NET Compact Framework (rich client) applications? Ideally, I'm hoping to find something that would allow you to bascially configure an application's UI and screenflow via an XML file, or some other configuration mechanism, and allow you to plugin different "Action" classes to take care of specific events, etc. in the app. We basically want to have a base application, which allows you to plugin specific/custom functionality to support different customers. I know it's a lot to find, but feel free to throw out any frameworks that might support any or all of these types of things.

  • Relative Path To Absolute Path in VB .NET

    - by Mehdi Anis
Hi, I am writing a VB .NET console app where it spits takes relative path and spits out all file name, or error for invalid input. I am havinf trouble getting PhysicalPath from RelativePath Example: ` 1. I am in folder: C:\Documents and Settings\MehdiAnis.ULTIMATEBANGLA\My Documents\Visual Studio 2005\Projects\SP_Sol\SP_Proj\bin\Debug My App SP.exe is also in the same folder I run: "SP.exe ..\" OutPut will be a list of all files in the folder of "C:\Documents and Settings\MehdiAnis.ULTIMATEBANGLA\My Documents\Visual Studio 2005\Projects\SP_Sol\SP_Proj\bin" I run: "SP.exe ..\..\" OutPut will be a list of all files in the folder of "C:\Documents and Settings\MehdiAnis.ULTIMATEBANGLA\My Documents\Visual Studio 2005\Projects\SP_Sol\SP_Proj" I run: "SP.exe ..\..\..\" OutPut will be a list of all files in the folder of "C:\Documents and Settings\MehdiAnis.ULTIMATEBANGLA\My Documents\Visual Studio 2005\Projects\SP_Sol" ` Currently I am Handling 1 relative path, but not more than one: If Source.IndexOf("..\") = 0 Then Dim Sibling As String = Directory.GetParent(Directory.GetCurrentDirectory()).ToString()()) Source = Source.Replace("..\", Sibling) End If How can I easily handle multiple ..\ easily ? • Trying to run WCF web service on non-domain VM, Security Errors

    - by NealWalters
Am I in a Catch-22 situation here? My goal is to take a WCF service that I inherited, and run it on a VM and test it by calling it from my desktop PC. The VM is in a workgroup, and not in the company's domain. Basically, we need more test environments, ideally one per developer (we may have 2 to 4 people that need this). Thus the idea of the VM was that each developer could have his own web server that somewhat matches or real environment (where we actually have two websites, an external/exposed and internal). [Using VS2010 .NET 4.0] In the internal service, each method was decorated with this attribute: [OperationBehavior(Impersonation = ImpersonationOption.Required)] I'm still researching why this was needed. I think it's because a webapp calls the "internal" service, and either a) we need the credentials of the user, or b) we may doing some PrinciplePermission.Demands to see if the user is in a group. My interest is creating some ConsoleTest programs or UnitTest programs. I changed to allowed like this: [OperationBehavior(Impersonation = ImpersonationOption.Allowed)] because I was getting this error in trying to view the .svc in the browser: The contract operation 'EditAccountFamily' requires Windows identity for automatic impersonation. A Windows identity that represents the caller is not provided by binding ('WSHttpBinding','http://tempuri.org/') for contract ('IAdminService','http://tempuri.org/'. I don't get that error with the original bindings look like this: However, I believe I need to turn off this security since the web service is not on the domain. I tend to get these errors in the client: 1) The request for security token could not be satisfied because authentication failed - as an InnerException of "SecurityNegotiation was unhandled". or 2) The caller was not authenticated by the service as an InnerException of "SecurityNegotiation was unhandled". So can I create some configuration of code and web.config that will allow each developer to work on his own VM? Or must I join the VM to the domain? The number of permutations seems near endless. I've started to create a Word.doc that says what to do with each error, but now I'm in the catch-22 where I'm stuck. • c#/.NET SQLite -- REINDEX not working?

    - by borg17of20
Hello all, I'm trying to reindex a table in a simple database that I created using SQLite.NET and VS2008. I need to reindex tables after every DELETE command and here is the code snippet I have written (it does not work): SQLiteCommand currentCommand; String tempString = "REINDEX tf_questions"; //String tempString = "REINDEX [main].tf_questions"; //String tempString = "REINDEX main.tf_questions"; currentCommand = new SQLiteCommand(myConnection); currentCommand.CommandText = tempString; currentCommand.ExecuteNonQuery() When run within my program, the code produces no errors, but it also doesn't reindex the "tf_questions" table. In the above example, you will also see the other query strings I've tried that also don't work. Please help, Thanks

  • vb.net 2008 multilingual string display adding resources err:MissingManifestResourcesException

    - by Naresh
Developing a multilingual application in VB.Net 2008, Im able to add resources to forms and create a multilingual forms depending on uiculture. On reading Msdn on creating the multilingual string values for messagebox contents, have added the .resource file to the project files path as specified. There is no error on compilation but throws the MissingManifestResourceException error Dim rm As ResourceManager rm = ResourceManager.CreateFileBasedResourceManager("strFormResources", ".", Nothing) Dim ci As CultureInfo ci = New CultureInfo("fr-FR") MessageBox.Show(rm.GetString("sample1", ci)) Could not find any resources appropriate for the specified culture (or the neutral culture) on disk. baseName: strFormResources locationInfo: fileName: strFormResources.resources There is strFormResources.resources and strFormResources.fr-FR.resources in Resources of the project. I have searched for this error details but could not find a solution. What am i doing wrong or is there any other method for displaying multilingual strings in the messagebox. Thanks in advance

  • PerformanceCounters on .NET 4.0 & Windows 7

    - by scott
I have a program that works fine on VS2008 and Vista, but I'm trying it on Windows 7 and VS2010 / .NET Framework 4.0 and it's not working. Ultimately the problem is that System.Diagnostics.PerformanceCounterCategory.GetCategories() (and other PerformanceCounterCategory methods) is not working. I'm getting a System.InvalidOperationException with the message "Cannot load Counter Name data because an invalid index '' was read from the registry." I can reproduce this with the very simple program shown below: class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { foreach (var pc in System.Diagnostics.PerformanceCounterCategory.GetCategories()) { Console.WriteLine(pc.CategoryName); } } } I did make sure I'm running the program as an admin. It doesn't matter if I run it with VS/Debugger attached or not. I don't have another machine with Windows 7 or VS2010 to test it on, so I'm not sure which is complicating things here (or both?). It is Windows 7 x64 and I've tried forcing the app to run in both x32 and x64 but get the same results.

  • Looking For a .NET Task Scheduling library

    - by Hounshell
I'm looking for the following features: Scheduler uses SQL Server as the backing store Tasks can be scheduled by one application and executed by another I can have multiple applications, each of which handles a specific subset of tasks Tasks can be triggered at specific times, now, or based on the success or failure of other tasks Data can be attached to tasks There are a number of nice-to-have's, like a web management console, clustering/failover support, customizable logging, but they're not requirements. On the surface Quartz.NET has a nice interface and seems to fit the bill as it satisfies (1), (4 with some custom work) and (5), but I've been beating my head against (2) and (3) seems like I'd have to invest more effort than it's worth, especially given how convoluted the innards of it are. Any other libraries out there? Open source is preferred, with free as a close runner up. It's really hard to get management to pay for things like this when it's not their idea.

  • OpenGL Wrapper in .Net

    - by Ngu Soon Hui
This question is similar to the one here. But I feel that the answers recommended ( such as Tao and OpenTK) are not good enough because they are just a direct port from OpenGL, with no OOP design, and hard to use. What I'm looking for is a .Net OpenGL wrapper that is written in clear OOP principles, easy to use ( easy to apply textual and lighting, easy to debug etc), able to rotate the 3D diagram with mouse ( a feature that is critically missing from OpenGL and TAO), and the ability to export to other file formats ( such as dwg or dxf or Google Map file format). Any suggestion? Both Open source or commercial components would do.

  • Creating line graph/chart in vb.net (VS2008)

    - by typoknig
I am reluctant to ask this question because a lot of similar questions have been asked, but after reading through them I am not getting the info I need. I am trying to follow this tutorial and I think it is going to work ok, but I have a lot of data to put in and the tutorial has the reader create the chart data points manually. I want the data points to be generated from an integer which can change while the program is running (thus the chart size needs to change) and the y coordinate of the data points needs to come from an array. I have attempted to "bind" the data but I am messing it up somehow and I don't even think that is the best way to do what I want. Also, I do not have to use the methods suggested in the tutorial, I am looking for the highest quality most efficient way to generate a line graph in vb.net (VS2008) based on the criteria I previously mentioned.

  • IP Address Lookup in VB.net (XP vs Windows 7)

    - by TheHockeyGeek
Currently I use the following code to retrieve the IP address of the local workstation... strIPAddress = System.Net.Dns.GetHostEntry(strComputerName).AddressList(0).ToString() This is fine for the Windows XP workstations. However, in Vista and Windows 7, this returns the IPv6 address which is not used at all. Is there a method of setting this to work so it always returns the IPv4 address regardless of platform? I know I can increment the AddressList value to 1 and get the correct IP in Windows 7. The bad part is that this requires going through the motions of identifying the OS and choosing one or the other. The must be some way of specifying IPv4 only. Perhaps getting a result from DNS on the network rather than the workstation itself?

  • Hardware Emulator / Simulator for Winforms .Net Application

    - by Suneet
I have a WinForms .Net HMI software which talks to hardware over USB. I check for communication with the hardware at Load time and if communication is active then run it (The hardware manufacturer has provided a communication library to talk over USB). I want to build an emulator for cases when communication with hardware is not possible (not connected) and want the software to run in simulated mode by providing dummy values for different states of hardware. Has anyone implemented something similar? Any pointers will be helpful. Are there any design patterns to handle such implementations. TIA

  • Strange - Clicking Update button doesn’t cause a postback due to <!-- tag

    - by AspOnMyNet
If I define the following template inside DetailsView, then upon clicking an Update or Insert button, the page is posted back to the server: <EditItemTemplate> <asp:TextBox ID="txtDate" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("Date") %>'></asp:TextBox> <asp:CompareValidator ID="valDateType" runat="server" ControlToValidate="txtDate" Type="Date" Operator="DataTypeCheck" Display="Dynamic" >*</asp:CompareValidator> </EditItemTemplate> If I remove CompareValidator control from the above code by simply deleting it, then page still gets posted back. But if instead I remove CompareValidator control by enclosing it within <!-- --> tags, then for some reason clicking an Update or Insert button doesn’t cause a postback...instead nothing happens: <EditItemTemplate> <asp:TextBox ID="txtDate" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("Date") %>'></asp:TextBox> <!-- <asp:CompareValidator ID="valDateType" runat="server" ControlToValidate="txtDate" Type="Date" Operator="DataTypeCheck" Display="Dynamic" >*</asp:CompareValidator> --> </EditItemTemplate> </EditItemTemplate> Any idea why page doesn't get posted back? thanx

  • Programmatically retrieve disconnected network adapter information in .NET

    - by Soo Wei Tan
I have an application written in C# that needs to retrieve information like IP address, subnet mask from a disconnected network adapter. I've tried using various methods such as WMI and the .NET NetworkAdapter class but they don't return any useful data when the network adapter is disconnected. I'm pretty sure Windows keeps this information somewhere, since I can apply network settings using netsh and it appears correctly in the Control Panel. One thing that worked for me in XP was to parse the output of the netsh tool and it would return information even for a disconnected adapter. However, this doesn't seem to work on Windows 7. Win XP output: Configuration for interface "Local Area Connection 5" DHCP enabled: No IP Address: 169.254.0.128 SubnetMask: 255.255.255.0 InterfaceMetric: 0 Win7 output: Configuration for interface "Local Area Connection 2" DHCP enabled: No InterfaceMetric: 5 Any ideas?

  • UpdatePanel doesn't do partial-page update, and IsInAsyncPostBack is always false

    - by Joseph Anderson
    I'm attempting to use an UpdatePanel, but can't get partial-page updates to work. When I look at the ScriptManager's IsInAsyncPostBack property, it's always false. Here's a page that reproduces the issue. It has a ScriptManager, an UpdatePanel, a LinkButton within the update panel, and a Button wired up to the UpdatePanel via the Triggers collection. <%@ Page Language="C#" %> <script runat="server"> protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { Label1.Text = DateTime.Now.ToString(); if (IsPostBack) Label1.Text += " - Postback!"; if (ScriptManager1.IsInAsyncPostBack) Label1.Text += " - Async!"; } </script> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <body> <form id="form1" runat="server"> <asp:ScriptManager ID="ScriptManager1" EnablePartialRendering="true" runat="server" /> <asp:UpdatePanel ID="UpdatePanel1" UpdateMode="Conditional" runat="server"> <ContentTemplate>Panel 1:<asp:Label runat=server ID=Label1 /><br /> <asp:LinkButton runat=server ID="LinkButton1" Text="Update!"></asp:LinkButton></ContentTemplate> <Triggers><asp:AsyncPostBackTrigger ControlID="Button1" EventName="Click" /></Triggers> </asp:UpdatePanel> <asp:Button ID="Button1" Text="Refresh Panel 1" runat="server" UseSubmitBehavior=false /> </form> </body> </html> If I run this code and click on either of the buttons, I see "Panel 1:2/8/2010 3:38:41 PM - Postback!" I expected that clicking either button would cause a partial-page update for UpdatePanel1, that IsInAsyncPostBack would be true, and that " - Async!" would be appended to Label1. Any idea why IsInAsyncPostBack is always false?

  • Strange thing about .NET 4.0 filesystem enumeratation functionality

    - by codymanix
I just read a page of "Whats new .NET Framework 4.0". I have trouble understanding the last paragraph: To remove open handles on enumerated directories or files Create a custom method (or function in Visual Basic) to contain your enumeration code. Apply the MethodImplAttribute attribute with the NoInlining option to the new method. For example: [MethodImplAttribute(MethodImplOptions.NoInlining)] Private void Enumerate() Include the following method calls, to run after your enumeration code: * The GC.Collect() method (no parameters). * The GC.WaitForPendingFinalizers() method. Why the attribute NoInlining? What harm would inlining do here? Why call the garbage collector manually, why not making the enumerator implement IDisposable in the first place? I suspect they use FindFirstFile()/FindNextFile() API calls for the imlementation, so FindClose() has to be called in any case if the enumeration is done.

  • How to void authorized transaction in authorize.net gateway using ActiveMerchant

    - by m7d
Goal: Only have successful purchases show up on a customer's billing statement. I don't want declined authorizations showing up on their billing statement (as seen in an online banking system) as pending. A customer often will accidentally input an incorrect billing address, for example, followed by a correct one. Together, the two attempts, one successful and one not both show up on their billing statement as pending prior to settlement. This can scare the customer as it looks potentially like they will be charged twice. Details: When I do an AUTH_CAPTURE (via ActiveMerchant's purchase) or an AUTH (via ActiveMerchant's authorize) which is declined and subsequently want to void that authorization (via ActiveMerchant's void) so as not to have it appear on a customer's billing statement as pending (even though it will settle out after a few days), the gateway can't find the transaction to void using the authorization code returned from the authorization or capture method calls on the gateway. This is specific to the authorize.net AIM gateway. Please advise. Thanks!
