• application custom stock icons not working in ubuntu unity top panel menu (aka appmenu) ("Menus Have Icons" ON)

  I recently noticed that in ubuntu unity the top menu of my apps does not show the (custom) icons I added to the gtk stock, but only the basic gtk stock icons. This happens only since the top menu is displayed in the unity top panel (appmenu) and not in the application window. In place of the correct custom icons I see "gtk-missing-image". On my apps toolbars and other menus those icons are displayed properly, the problem is only with the top menu. This happens either with pygtk2 (e.g. http://www.giuspen.com/cherrytree/) and gobject introspection (e.g. http://www.giuspen.com/nautilus-pyextensions/). I use gtk ui manager after integrating the stock icons this way: factory = gtk.IconFactory() pixbuf = gtk.gdk.pixbuf_new_from_file(filepath) iconset = gtk.IconSet(pixbuf) factory.add(stock_name, iconset) factory.add_default() If anybody solved this problem please help. • I am so confused about desktop/viewport switching, all I want to do is bind keyboard shortcuts to switch desktops

  I've installed a pre-made Ubuntu 10.04 image at work, and I can't seem to figure out how to get desktop switching to work. No shortcuts work, and all the help I can get from the Ubuntu forums is "CTRL-Alt-Left/Right should work." So lemme get this straight. Switching between desktops is deprecated, so we use viewports, which are managed by Compiz, which has one of the most absurd configuration managers out there. Lovely. Can anyone straighten this out for me, and anyone else who might stumble on this question?

FYI: on Google official guidelines I did not find info about this. I suppose hotlink protection prevents Google Images to show images in its results because I did some tests and it seems hotlink protection does prevent my images to be shown in Google Images search.

• Why does Google Analytics show false referrals?

  Ever since Google revamped their Analytics interface I've been noticing a weird "bug" while viewing the "Real-Time" overview area. From this area I can obviously see live stats of visitors to my website but when I visit my website by opening a new tab (Chrome) and manually visit website the real time stats sometimes look like the image linked below. http://i.stack.imgur.com/mfniY.png Is there any reason why Google is saying that I was referred by Stack Overflow when I'm visiting my website from a new tab? Could this be something do to with how I installed the analytics on my site or could this be an issue with browser cookies? Have anyone else noticed this? I am mainly concerned about this because in the standard reporting area of my Analytics panel my referral stats are getting thrown off every time I visit my own website.

  I tried to install Ubuntu Quantal AM64 on a EFI - GPT notebook (asus X501U) in dualboot. Ubuntu works fine, but i can't boot windows anymore. HDD is partitioned in this way: sda1 0.2 Gb boot efi sda2 0.128 Gb sda3 60 Gb Windows sda4 210 Gb Data sda5 15 Gb Ubuntu sda6 4 Gb swap sda7 25 Gb recovery image Booting pc, grub2 runs, but if i try to select "windows 7 loader on sda3" i receive this message: "error: invalid EFI file path." If i select "windows recovery Environment on sda7" i receive: "error: impossible find command "drivemap" - error: invalid EFI file path." I installed dualboot ubuntu many times, but this is the first time on a EFI - GPT system.

• Algorithm to calculate trajectories from vector field

  I have a two-dimensional vector field, i.e., for each point (x, y) I have a vector (u, v), whereas u and v are functions of x and y. This vector field canonically defines a set of trajectories, i.e. a set of paths a particle would take if it follows along the vector field. In the following image, the vector field is depicted in red, and there are four trajectories which are partly visible, depicted in dark red: I need an algorithm which efficiently calculates some trajectories for a given vector field. The trajectories must satisfy some kind of minimum denseness in the plane (for every point in the plane we must have a 'nearby' trajectory), or some other condition to get a reasonable set of trajectories. I could not find anything useful on Google on this, and Stackexchange doesn't seem to handle the topic either. Before I start devising such an algorithm by myself: Are there any known algorithms for this problem? What is their name, for which keywords do I have to search?

  I rotate my game character to watch at the target using the following code: transform.rotation = Quaternion.Slerp(startQuaternion, lookQuaternion, turningNormalizer*turningSpeed/10f) startQuaternion is the character's current rotation when a new target is given. lookQuaternion is the direction the character should look at and it's set like this: destinationVector = currentWaypoint.transform.position - transform.position; lookQuaternion = Quaternion.LookRotation(destinationVector, Vector3.up); turningNormalizer is just Time.deltaTime incremented and turningSpeed is a static value given in the editor. The problem is that while the character turns as it should most of the time, it has problems when it has to do close to 180 degrees. Then it at times jitters and mirrors the rotation: In this poorly drawn image the character(on the right) starts to turn towards the circle on the left. Instead of just turning either through left or right it starts this "mirror dance": It starts to rotate towards the new facing Then it suddenly snaps to the same angle but on other side and keeps rotating It does this "mirroring" so long until it looks at the target. Is this a thing with quaternions, slerping/lerping or something else?

  Lets say I have a game that is some kind of a quiz, and its questions are themed around gaming. For it to be interesting, I would need to make references to well-known games and game-related stuff. In a copyright infrigement sense, could I have problems with this? Imagine a question such as, "What was the currency used in game X?", or "Which company made game Y?". Also, the same applied to screenshots of known games, and have a question near it, such as "What game is this image from?". Toughts? Thanks

  I need an online shop with a custom interface (customizing items with Ajax, with a preview included). Writing it myself does not make too much sense (implementing all the payment options etc.), so I would like to use an existing online shop (OpenSource). I would like to build my own UI which, for example, tells the shop to add an item to its cart -- i.e. without using the online shop's native UI. More precisely, it should be an online gallery where the user can directly order an image if he likes it. The final checkout/payment page can be native again. Is there a shop system that supports this? Or is it still faster to write it on my own? Or are there better options?

But when I opened up the menu and press the prtsrc key, nothing happened. I have also tried Shift+PrtSrc Key and Alt+PrtScr key. Result was the same.   I have a cron job which runs every 30 minutes that changes the background image by running this bash script: #!/bin/bash export DISPLAY=:0 export GSETTINGS_BACKEND=dconf wpdir="/home/username/Pictures/wallpapers/" prefix="file://" file=`ls $wpdir | shuf -n 1` gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.background picture-uri "$prefix$wpdir$file" This worked perfectly until I upgraded to 14.04. Now, running the script produces this output: (process:27459): dconf-WARNING **: failed to commit changes to dconf: Could not connect: Connection refused What can I do to fix this? Google didn't turn up any useful results. EDIT: I noticed that running this does change the background displayed on the lock screen, but it does not affect the desktop background.

• Need to know best way to utilize LVM to backup Ubuntu

  So I've had issues with Windows which forced me to install and learn Ubuntu as I'm fed up with MSFT. So now I need to know the most efficient/best way to image Ubuntu so that if I messed something up in one point in time I could always come back to the healthy point in time. During the install I saw an option for LVM and read what it is though I don't know how to utilize it to prevent a situation where I have to reinstall everything. Help? • Error installing Japanese game on lubuntu

  So, I have a .iso file for a japanese game. so I used Furious ISO mounter to mount the image, and used wine loader to install the game, but when I try, there's this small windows with two options, most likely YEs and No, with weird symbols and squares in the area there shoudl be text. I installed Japanese Language, but doesn't work. I got the Fake Japanese for Winetrick, but I'm not sure how to use this. Does anyoneno know how to fix this problem?? THank you.

• Ubuntu start up screen broken

  I set up dual boot on my extra pc last night. first installed windows 7 and that went just fine. Downloaded Ubuntu and then did the MD5SUM and did not get a correct return that were listed on the site. I forgot to do that before I burnt the image to a disc. so I booted from the disc anyway to do the intergrity check and no errors were found. I then installed and everything seems fine except when it's booting, the purple screen is broken. should I try to redownload and re install?
