    I am having trouble replicating the following sql as a LINQ statement select TableA.* from TableA left outer join TableAinTableB on TableA.Id = TableAId where TableBId is null The following returns no lines from TableA in db.TableA join AinB in db.TableAinTableB on TableA.Id equals TableAId where AinB.TableBId == null select TableA Also tried and a few other things that didn't work. from TableA in db.TableA join AinB in db.TableAinTableB on TableA.Id equals TableAId where AinB == null select TableA TableAinTableB is a many to many table. The query I want will pull all the records from TableA that have no records in the middle table. My sql does what I want but I have no idea how to convert it to LINQ to SQL. I ended up working around it by just doing a db.ExecuteQuery("working sql"); But I would like to know if the query is possible in LINQ and how to write it, or a pointer to a document that covers this scenario. My searching did not uncover anything I found useful.

    I'm doing a web application in asp.net mvc. Now I'm at the point where I do alot of text info such as help texts, eula, privacy policy etc. I realized that I'm not sure what would the best way to store these texts. 1. Directly in the aspx page 2. In text files and then load the text via ViewData[] to the aspx file 3. In my sql database If use option 3 how would I then design the database e.g. eula = table x, privacypolicy=table y? I guess I just need some directions of what't the pros and cons with the options above.

  • Why is my iPhone SDK 3.2 iPad code showing a white screen?

    I'm trying to get a UISplitViewController working with an iPad app. I have the table view controller linked up under the Master pane and a plain UIView under the Detail view. I also have [window addSubview:splitView.view]; in my code. For some reason I just get a white screen even though the table view controller code is properly coded and linked under my nib. I think the first option is; declare an index / int variable in post table and increase-decrease it when adding and deleting post. but whats happen when i delete first row and if table has one million records?     I'm having problems using params in the ORDER BY section of my SQL. It doesn't issue any warnings, but prints out nothing. $order = 'columnName'; $direction = 'ASC'; $stmt = $db->prepare("SELECT field from table WHERE column = :my_param ORDER BY :order :direction"); $stmt->bindParam(':my_param', $is_live, PDO::PARAM_STR); $stmt->bindParam(':order', $order, PDO::PARAM_STR); $stmt->bindParam(':direction', $direction, PDO::PARAM_STR); $stmt->execute(); The :my_param works, but not :order or :direction. Is it not being internally escaped correctly? Am I stuck inserting it directly in the SQL? Like so: $order = 'columnName'; $direction = 'ASC'; $stmt = $db->prepare("SELECT * from table WHERE is_live = :is_live ORDER BY $order $direction"); Is there a PDO::PARAM_COLUMN_NAME constant or some equivalent?     What's the best practice or well known methods to implement sequence numbers for business entities such as invoices, purchase orders, job numbers, etc? I want to be able to save the latest value in the database and be able to set it programatically. Is it OK to use a table for this purpose that has a SEQUENCE_NAME, SEQUENCE_NUMBER tuple? I know some databases have a first class sequence type but others (eg, MySQL) do not so it's not something I want to rely on. If a table is used to hold these sequences what is the right way to get and increment them in a synchronized fashion to ensure no data inconsistencies arise?

    What is a good way to prevent a table with 2 columns, a and b, from having any record where column b is equal to any value in column a? This would be used for a table of corrections like this, MR -> Mr Prf. -> Prof. MRs -> Mrs I can see how it could be done with a trigger and a subquery assuming no concurrent activity but a more declarative approach would be preferable. This is an example of what should be prevented, Wing Commdr. -> Wing Cdr. Wing Cdr. -> Wing Commander Ideally the solution would work with concurrent inserts and updates.

  • Representing Sparse Data in PostgreSQL

    What's the best way to represent a sparse data matrix in PostgreSQL? The two obvious methods I see are: Store data in a single a table with a separate column for every conceivable feature (potentially millions), but with a default value of NULL for unused features. This is conceptually very simple, but I know that with most RDMS implementations, that this is typically very inefficient, since the NULL values ususually takes up some space. However, I read an article (can't find its link unfortunately) that claimed PG doesn't take up data for NULL values, making it better suited for storing sparse data. Create separate "row" and "column" tables, as well as an intermediate table to link them and store the value for the column at that row. I believe this is the more traditional RDMS solution, but there's more complexity and overhead associated with it. I also found PostgreDynamic, which claims to better support sparse data, but I don't want to switch my entire database server to a PG fork just for this feature. Are there any other solutions? Which one should I use?

It needs to write a SQL-query, wich will provide latest rates per each currency. My decision is: SELECT c.[id],c.[curr],c.[rate],c.[date] FROM [curr_rate] c, (SELECT curr, MAX(date) AS rate_date FROM [curr_rate] GROUP BY curr) t WHERE c.date = t.rate_date AND c.curr = t.curr ORDER BY c.[curr] ASC Is it possible to write a query without sub-queries and join's with derived tables?

    Need help. I am trying to automate error notifications to be sent in mailers. For that I am querying the sysssislog table. I have pasted an "Execute SQl task" on the package event handler "On error". For testing purpose, I am deliberately trying to load duplicate keys in a table which consists of a Primary key column(so as to get an error). But instead of having just one error, "Violation of primary key constraint", SSIS records 3 in the table. PFA the screenshot as well. How can i restrict the tool to log only one error and not multiple ??? Package Structure. Package ("On error Event handler") - DFT - Oledb Source - Oledb Destination SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80004005. An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft SQL Server Native Client 10.0" Hresult: 0x80004005 Description: "The statement has been terminated.". An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft SQL Server Native Client 10.0" Hresult: 0x80004005 Description: "Violation of PRIMARY KEY constraint 'PK_SalesPerson_SalesPersonID'.     I need to find shortest paths in an unweighted, undirected graph. There are algorithms which can find a shortest path between two nodes, but this can take time. There are also algorithms for computing shortest paths for all pairs of nodes in the graph, but storing such a lookup table would take lots of disk space. What I'm wondering: Is there an algorithm which offers a space-time tradeoff that's somewhere between these two extremes? In other words, is there a way to speed up a shortest-path search, while using less disk space than would be occupied by an all-pairs shortest-path table? I know there are ways to efficiently store lookup tables for this problem, and I already have a couple of ideas for speeding up shortest-path searches using precomputed data. But I don't want to reinvent the wheel if there's already some established algorithm that solves this problem.

So, when I add 10000 elements to a map, and after that call map.clear(), it will keep 10000 nulls in it's internal array. So, my question is, how does JVM handle this array of nothing, and thus, is HashMap memory effective?

  • Connect sortable lists together and update SQL using jQuery UI

    I'm using jQuery UI's sortable lists to sort items in a todo list, and the reordering of the lists works like a charm. I have several UL lists for each todo category, i.e. Design, Development, etc. I want to be able to move an item from one category to another, and jQuery UI's sortable lists plugin allows me to do this with the connectWith option parameter. But I can't seem to find how to update the database as well. The todo database table has a field for a reference to the category which is laying in it's own table. My question is how to use timer? I know how to use timer but How can I use it on every lessons start time?I have table that includes start time of lessons. Also am I have to stop timer after search ends?And If I stop timer could I re-run timer againg? And one additional question that how can I track that new students come or some body left class room?

    Hi, I am using a FormView in an online quiz page for displaying the questions and RadioButtons (for answers) http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2438219/online-quiz-using-asp-dot-net Now, I need to pick the questions according to a TestID and a particular Set of that Test. The testid and the set_number would be passed using Session variables. I'm having 3 testIDs and 3 Sets per TestID and, thus, am using 9 tables to store the Questions, the Options and the correct answer. I need help on how to set the FormView so that it extracts the questions from a particular table only. Do I need to use a StoredProcedure ? If yes, how? PS: If I use only one table to store all the questions from each Set and for each TestID, I can do that, but I'd prefer using separate tables.

  • SQL Server Mutliple Joins Taxing CPU

    I have a stored procedure on SQL server 2005. It is pulling from a Table function, and has two joins. When the query is run using a load test it kills the CPU 100% across all 16 cores! I have determined that removing one of the joins makes the query run fine, but both taxes the CPU. Select SKey From dbo.tfnGetLatest(@ID) a left join [STAGING].dbo.RefSrvc b on a.LID = b.ESIID left join [STAGING].dbo.RefSrvc c on a.EID = c.ESIID Any help is appreciated, note the join is happening on the same table in a different database on the same server.

I am new to servlets please guide me When a user clicks the "go " button with some input. The data goes to the servlet say "Test3". The servlet processes the data by the user and generates/feeds the data table dynamically Then I call the html page to draw the chart as shown in the tutorial link above. The problem is when I call the servlet it gives me a long json string in the browser as given in the tutorials "google.visualization.Query.setResponse({version:'0.6',status:'ok',sig:'1333639331',table:{cols:[{............................" Then when i manually call the html page to draw the chart i am see the chart. But when I call html page directly using the request dispatcher via the servlet I dont get the result. So how can I do (servlet processing + html page drawing chart as final result) at one go without the long json string appearing on the browser. There is no problem with the html code....

  • Implementing full text search on iPhone?

    I'm looking for suggestions on the best way to implement a full-text search on some static data on the iPhone. Basically I have an app that contains the offline version of a web site, about 50MB of text, and I'd like for users to be able to search for terms. I figure that I should somehow build an table of ("word", reference_to_file_containing_word) or something, put that into either Core Data or just sqlite, index the "word" column, then have the search facility search the table for search terms and take the intersection of the sets of results for the terms or something. That wouldn't allow people to search for phrases but it would be pretty easy and probably not too slow. I'd like to just use existing SDK features for this. Should I use Core Data or sqlite? Does anyone have any other ideas on how this could be done?

  • Mixing a4 and a3 in one Latex file

    Hello, I am finishing my thesis and have a large appendix. Some tables only look good, if first done on a3 and then (paper)printed on a4. Anyhow, working all the files seperalty is fine, but I struggle to compile all in one. I use the geometry package and start the document with: \usepackage[a4paper,left=30mm,right=20mm,top=20mm, bottom=20mm]{geometry} For the appendix, I want to include the table and use \newgeometry{a3paper,left=25mm,right=15mm, top=15mm, bottom=15mm} However, the command is completely ignored and I can read "a3paper,left=25mm,right=15mm, top=15mm, bottom=15mm" above the table. What did I miss? Is it even possible? If not, how do I get the numbers right, if I have to include it as a pdf (which works)? Thanks!

  • Using CSS, how can I make overflow:visible; contents overlap adjacent <td> cells?

    I have the following CSS style code for my table: td { overflow: hidden; white-space:nowrap; } td:hover { overflow: visible; } However, when I hover over a <td> element whos contents (text) are hidden, the result is that the contents become visible but are behind the content of the adjacent cell (right side). I do not think that z-index can be applied to table cell elements, so is there a CSS attribute that I can specify within my td:hover style which will make the content of my <td> tag overlap the content in adjacent cells?
