• How to add a timeout value when using Java's Runtime.exec()?

  I have a method I am using to execute a command on the local host. I'd like to add a timeout parameter to the method so that if the command being called doesn't finish in a reasonable amount of time the method will return with an error code. • Is there anyway to close a StreamWriter without closing it's BaseStream?

  My root problem is that when using calls Dispose on a StreamWriter, it also disposes the BaseStream (same problem with Close). I have a workaround for this, but as you can see it involves copying the stream. Is there any way to do this without copying the stream? The purpose of this is to get the contents of a string (originally read from a database) into a stream, so the stream can be read by a third party component. However internally it might be that compiler translates 1st approach to the 2nd approach anyway and they will have the same performance. Any suggestions or ideas? I could do profiling like suggested, but I want to understand what is going on compiler level if those to lines of code are the same to the compiler, or compiler will treat it literally.   I've been trying to upload a file to the database using SQL SERVER 2008 Filestream and Impersonation technique to save the file in the file system, but i keep getting Access Denied error; even though i've set the permissions for the impersonating user to the Filestream folder(C:\SQLFILESTREAM\Dev_DB). when i debugged the code, i found the server return a unc path(\Server_Name\MSSQLSERVER\v1\Dev_LMDB\dbo\FileData\File_Data\13C39AB1-8B91-4F5A-81A1-940B58504C17), which was not accessible through windows explorer. I've my web application hosted on local maching(Windows 7). SQL Server is located on a remote server(Windows Server 2008 R2). Sql authentication was used to call the stored procedure. • startActivityForResult to an activity that only displays a progressdialog

  I'm trying to make an activity that is asked for some result. This result is normally returned instantly (in the onCreate), however, sometimes it is nesesary to wait for some internet-content to download which causes the "loader"-activity to show. What I want is that the loader-activity don't display anything more than a progressdialog (and that you can still se the old activity calling the loader-activity in the background) and I'm wondering wheather or not this is possible. • LibreOffice UNO Java API: how to open a document, execute a macro and close it?

  I'm working on LibreOffice server-side: on the server I run soffice --accept=... Then I use Java LibreOffice client API's to apply a macro on a document (calc or writer). The java execution does not give any error, but I do not get the job done (macro code is executed, but it's effects are not in the output file). More, after macro script is invoked, the Basic debugger window appears, apparently stopped on the first line of my macro; F5 does not restart it... • Winforms: calling entry form function from a different class

  I'm kinda new to programming and got a question on what is a good practice. I created a class that represents a ball and it has a function Jump() that use 2 timers and get the ball up and down. I know that in Winforms you got to call Invalidate() every time you want to repaint the screen, or part of it. I didn't find a good way to do that, so I reference the form in my class, and called Invalidate() inside my ball class every time I need to repaint to ball movement. If not then a new objectcontext will be created. If I am passing an object context to it, then it is getting disposed after the method is done. I was expecting only "ctx" variable gets disposed. If I write a small app, to know the using and dispose mechanism.
