  • unable to compile a servlet in ubuntu

    - by codeomnitrix
    I am newbie to j2ee. I have download and installed j2eesdk-1_4_03-linux.bin in my ubuntu 10.04 distribution. and then i tried to code my first servlet in it as: import java.io.*; import javax.servelet.*; import javax.servelet.http.*; public class HowdyServelet extends HttpServelet{ public void doGet(HttpServeletRequest request, HttpServeletResponse response) throws IOException, ServeletException{ PrintWriter out = response.getWriter(); response.setContentType("text/html"); out.println("<html>"); out.println("<head><title>howdy</title></head>"); out.println("<body>"); out.println("<center><h1>Howdy</h1></center>"); out.println("</body>"); out.println("</html>"); } } and here are the environment variables i set after installation: 1. J2EE_HOME=/home/vinit/SUNWappserver 2. JAVA_HOME=/home/vinit/SUNWappserver/jdk 3. CLASSPATH=/home/vinit/SUNWappserver/lib and now i tried to compile the servlet using javac HowdyServelet.java But i got following errors: HowdyServelet.java:2: package javax.servelet does not exist import javax.servelet.*; ^ HowdyServelet.java:3: package javax.servelet.http does not exist import javax.servelet.http.*; ^ HowdyServelet.java:5: cannot find symbol symbol: class HttpServelet public class HowdyServelet extends HttpServelet{ ^ HowdyServelet.java:6: cannot find symbol symbol : class HttpServeletRequest location: class HowdyServelet public void doGet(HttpServeletRequest request, HttpServeletResponse response) throws IOException, ServeletException{ ^ HowdyServelet.java:6: cannot find symbol symbol : class HttpServeletResponse location: class HowdyServelet public void doGet(HttpServeletRequest request, HttpServeletResponse response) throws IOException, ServeletException{ ^ HowdyServelet.java:6: cannot find symbol symbol : class ServeletException location: class HowdyServelet public void doGet(HttpServeletRequest request, HttpServeletResponse response) throws IOException, ServeletException{ ^ 6 errors So how to compile this servlet. Thanks in advance.

  • Why the HelloWorld of opennlp library works fine on Java but doesn't work with Jruby?

    I am getting this error: SyntaxError: hello.rb:13: syntax error, unexpected tIDENTIFIER public HelloWorld( InputStream data ) throws IOException { The HelloWorld.rb is: require "java" import java.io.FileInputStream; import java.io.InputStream; import java.io.IOException; import opennlp.tools.postag.POSModel; import opennlp.tools.postag.POSTaggerME; public class HelloWorld { private POSModel model; public HelloWorld( InputStream data ) throws IOException { setModel( new POSModel( data ) ); } public void run( String sentence ) { POSTaggerME tagger = new POSTaggerME( getModel() ); String[] words = sentence.split( "\\s+" ); String[] tags = tagger.tag( words ); double[] probs = tagger.probs(); for( int i = 0; i < tags.length; i++ ) { System.out.println( words[i] + " => " + tags[i] + " @ " + probs[i] ); } } private void setModel( POSModel model ) { this.model = model; } private POSModel getModel() { return this.model; } public static void main( String args[] ) throws IOException { if( args.length < 2 ) { System.out.println( "HelloWord <file> \"sentence to tag\"" ); return; } InputStream is = new FileInputStream( args[0] ); HelloWorld hw = new HelloWorld( is ); is.close(); hw.run( args[1] ); } } when running ruby HelloWorld.rb "I am trying to make it work" when I run the HelloWorld.java "I am trying to make it work" it works perfectly, of course the .java doesn't contain the require java statement.   • Functioning Socket read no longer works when called in AsyncTask

    - by bibismcbryde
    I'm making an app that sends a string to a server over a socket and then reads the output after the server has processed that data. It worked perfectly when it was my foreground task, but I have since used AsyncTask to show a process dialog while the socket communication runs in the background, and things start breaking after I read the output from the server and then try to close the socket. private class Progressor extends AsyncTask<String, Void, Void> { ProgressDialog dialog; protected void onPreExecute() { dialog = ProgressDialog.show(ClearTalkInputActivity.this, "Loading..", "Analyzing Text", true, false); } protected Void doInBackground(String... strings) { String language = strings[0].toLowerCase(); String the_text = strings[1]; Socket socket = null; DataOutputStream dos = null; DataInputStream dis = null; try { socket = new Socket(my_ip, port); dos = new DataOutputStream(socket.getOutputStream()); dis = new DataInputStream(socket.getInputStream()); dos.writeUTF(language+"****"+the_text); String in = ""; while (in.indexOf("</content>") < 0) { in += dis.readUTF(); } socket.close(); save_str(OUTPUT_KEY, in); } catch (UnknownHostException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } catch (IOException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } finally { if (socket != null) { try { socket.close(); } catch (IOException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } } } if (dos != null) { try { dos.close(); } catch (IOException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } } if (dis != null) { try { dis.close(); } catch (IOException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } } return null; } protected void onPostExecute() { if (dialog.isShowing()) dialog.dismiss(); startActivity(new Intent (output_intent)); } }

  • Android: Gzip/Http supported by default?

    - by OneWorld
    I am using the code shown below to get Data from our server where Gzip is turned on. Does my Code already support Gzip (maybe this is already done by android and not by my java program) or do I have to add/change smth.? How can I check that it's using Gzip? For my opionion the download is kinda slow. private static InputStream OpenHttpConnection(String urlString) throws IOException { InputStream in = null; int response = -1; URL url = new URL(urlString); URLConnection conn = url.openConnection(); if (!(conn instanceof HttpURLConnection)) throw new IOException("Not an HTTP connection"); try { HttpURLConnection httpConn = (HttpURLConnection) conn; httpConn.setAllowUserInteraction(false); httpConn.setInstanceFollowRedirects(true); httpConn.setRequestMethod("GET"); httpConn.connect(); response = httpConn.getResponseCode(); if (response == HttpURLConnection.HTTP_OK) { in = httpConn.getInputStream(); if(in == null) throw new IOException("No data"); } } catch (Exception ex) { throw new IOException("Error connecting"); } return in; }

  • Given an XML which contains a representation of a graph, how to apply it DFS algorithm? [on hold]

    - by winston smith
    Given the followin XML which is a directed graph: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="iso-8859-1" ?> <!DOCTYPE graph PUBLIC "-//FC//DTD red//EN" "../dtd/graph.dtd"> <graph direct="1"> <vertex label="V0"/> <vertex label="V1"/> <vertex label="V2"/> <vertex label="V3"/> <vertex label="V4"/> <vertex label="V5"/> <edge source="V0" target="V1" weight="1"/> <edge source="V0" target="V4" weight="1"/> <edge source="V5" target="V2" weight="1"/> <edge source="V5" target="V4" weight="1"/> <edge source="V1" target="V2" weight="1"/> <edge source="V1" target="V3" weight="1"/> <edge source="V1" target="V4" weight="1"/> <edge source="V2" target="V3" weight="1"/> </graph> With this classes i parsed the graph and give it an adjacency list representation: import java.io.IOException;   • Java, server client TCP communication ends with RST

    - by Senne
    I'm trying to figure out if this is normal. Because without errors, a connection should be terminated by: FIN -> <- ACK <- FIN ACK -> I get this at the end of a TCP connection (over SSL, but i also get it with non-encrypted): From To 1494 server client TCP search-agent > 59185 [PSH, ACK] Seq=25974 Ack=49460 Win=63784 Len=50 1495 client server TCP 59185 > search-agent [ACK] Seq=49460 Ack=26024 Win=63565 Len=0 1496 client server TCP 59185 > search-agent [PSH, ACK] Seq=49460 Ack=26024 Win=63565 Len=23 1497 client server TCP 59185 > search-agent [FIN, ACK] Seq=49483 Ack=26024 Win=63565 Len=0 1498 server client TCP search-agent > 59185 [PSH, ACK] Seq=26024 Ack=49484 Win=63784 Len=23 1499 client server TCP 59185 > search-agent [RST, ACK] Seq=49484 Ack=26047 Win=0 Len=0 The client exits normally and reaches socket.close, shouldn't then the connection be shut down normally, without a reset?   • Tomcat Exception-Type Ignoring Specific Exception for More General

    - by David Marks
    For one type of exception, IOException, I want to display one page. For all other exceptions I have a default error page. In my web.xml I have things setup like this: java.io.IOException /queryException.jsp java.lang.Exception /error.jsp The problem is the error.jsp is the only page that ever shows, even if an IOException is thrown. The order the tags appear in doesn't matter; if I remove the java.lang.Exception tag though, I can get queryException to show for IOExceptions. What is the solution here? How can I keep a general error page for all exceptions EXCEPT for those with specific pages?

  • Watching a variable for changes without polling.

    - by milkfilk
    I'm using a framework called Processing which is basically a Java applet. It has the ability to do key events because Applet can. You can also roll your own callbacks of sorts into the parent. I'm not doing that right now and maybe that's the solution. For now, I'm looking for a more POJO solution. So I wrote some examples to illustrate my question. Please ignore using key events on the command line (console). Certainly this would be a very clean solution but it's not possible on the command line and my actual app isn't a command line app. In fact, a key event would be a good solution for me but I'm trying to understand events and polling beyond just keyboard specific problems. Both these examples flip a boolean. When the boolean flips, I want to fire something once. I could wrap the boolean in an Object so if the Object changes, I could fire an event too. I just don't want to poll with an if() statement unnecessarily. import java.io.BufferedReader; import java.io.IOException; import java.io.InputStreamReader; /* * Example of checking a variable for changes. * Uses dumb if() and polls continuously. */ public class NotAvoidingPolling { public static void main(String[] args) { boolean typedA = false; String input = ""; System.out.println("Type 'a' please."); while (true) { InputStreamReader isr = new InputStreamReader(System.in); BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(isr); try { input = br.readLine(); } catch (IOException ioException) { System.out.println("IO Error."); System.exit(1); } // contrived state change logic if (input.equals("a")) { typedA = true; } else { typedA = false; } // problem: this is polling. if (typedA) System.out.println("Typed 'a'."); } } } Running this outputs: Type 'a' please. a Typed 'a'. On some forums people suggested using an Observer. And although this decouples the event handler from class being observed, I still have an if() on a forever loop. import java.io.BufferedReader; import java.io.IOException; import java.io.InputStreamReader; import java.util.Observable; import java.util.Observer; /* * Example of checking a variable for changes. * This uses an observer to decouple the handler feedback * out of the main() but still is polling. */ public class ObserverStillPolling { boolean typedA = false; public static void main(String[] args) { // this ObserverStillPolling o = new ObserverStillPolling(); final MyEvent myEvent = new MyEvent(o); final MyHandler myHandler = new MyHandler(); myEvent.addObserver(myHandler); // subscribe // watch for event forever Thread thread = new Thread(myEvent); thread.start(); System.out.println("Type 'a' please."); String input = ""; while (true) { InputStreamReader isr = new InputStreamReader(System.in); BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(isr); try { input = br.readLine(); } catch (IOException ioException) { System.out.println("IO Error."); System.exit(1); } // contrived state change logic // but it's decoupled now because there's no handler here. if (input.equals("a")) { o.typedA = true; } } } } class MyEvent extends Observable implements Runnable { // boolean typedA; ObserverStillPolling o; public MyEvent(ObserverStillPolling o) { this.o = o; } public void run() { // watch the main forever while (true) { // event fire if (this.o.typedA) { setChanged(); // in reality, you'd pass something more useful notifyObservers("You just typed 'a'."); // reset this.o.typedA = false; } } } } class MyHandler implements Observer { public void update(Observable obj, Object arg) { // handle event if (arg instanceof String) { System.out.println("We received:" + (String) arg); } } } Running this outputs: Type 'a' please. a We received:You just typed 'a'. I'd be ok if the if() was a NOOP on the CPU. But it's really comparing every pass. I see real CPU load. This is as bad as polling. I can maybe throttle it back with a sleep or compare the elapsed time since last update but this is not event driven. It's just less polling. So how can I do this smarter? How can I watch a POJO for changes without polling? In C# there seems to be something interesting called properties. I'm not a C# guy so maybe this isn't as magical as I think. private void SendPropertyChanging(string property) { if (this.PropertyChanging != null) { this.PropertyChanging(this, new PropertyChangingEventArgs(property)); } }

  • Is it okay to use try catch inside finally?

    - by Hiral Lakdavala
    Hi, I am using a buffered writer and my code, closes the writer in the finally block. My code is like this. ........... BufferedWriter theBufferedWriter = null; try{ theBufferedWriter =..... .... ...... ..... } catch (IOException anException) { .... } finally { try { theBufferedWriter.close(); } catch (IOException anException) { anException.printStackTrace(); } } I have to use the try catch inside the clean up code in finally as theBufferedWriter might also throw an IOException. I do not want to throw this exception to the calling methos. Is it a good practice to use a try catch in finally? If not what is the alternative? Please suggest. Regards, Hiral

  • How do you fix "Too many open files" problem in Hudson?

    - by Randyaa
    We use Hudson as a continuous integration system to execute automated builds (nightly and based on CVS polling) of a lot of our projects. Some projects poll CVS every 15 minutes, some others poll every 5 minutes and some poll every hour. Every few weeks we'll get a build that fails with the following output: FATAL: java.io.IOException: Too many open files java.io.IOException: java.io.IOException: Too many open files at java.lang.UNIXProcess.<init>(UNIXProcess.java:148) The next build always worked (with 0 changes) so we always chalked it up to 2 build jobs being run at the same time and happening to have too many files open during the process. This weekend we had a build fail Friday night (automatic nightly build) with the message and every other nightly build also failed. Somehow this triggered Hudson to continuously build every project which failed until the issue was resolved. This resulted in a build every 30 minutes or so of every project until sometime Saturday night when the issue magically disappeared.

  • Integrating a Progress Bar into a Wizard

    - by Geertjan
    Normally, when you create a wizard, as described here, and you have your own iterator, you'll have a class signature like this: public final class MyWizardWizardIterator implements WizardDescriptor.InstantiatingIterator<WizardDescriptor> { Let's now imagine that you've got some kind of long running process your wizard needs to perform. Maybe the wizard needs to connect to something, which could take some time. Start by adding a new dependency on the Progress API, which gives you the classes that access the NetBeans Platform's progress functionality. Now all we need to do is change the class signature very slightly: public final class MyWizardWizardIterator implements WizardDescriptor.ProgressInstantiatingIterator<WizardDescriptor> { Take a look at the part of the signature above that is highlighted. I.e., use WizardDescriptor.ProgressInstantiatingIterator instead of WizardDescriptor.InstantiatingIterator. Now you will need to implement a new instantiate method, one that receives a ProgressHandle. The other instantiate method, i.e., the one that already existed, should never be accessed anymore, and so you can add an assert to that effect: @Override public Set<?> instantiate() throws IOException {     throw new AssertionError("instantiate(ProgressHandle) " //NOI18N             + "should have been called"); //NOI18N } @Override public Set instantiate(ProgressHandle ph) throws IOException {     return Collections.emptySet(); } OK. Let's now add some code to make our progress bar work: @Override public Set instantiate(ProgressHandle ph) throws IOException {     ph.start();     ph.progress("Processing...");     try {         //Simulate some long process:         Thread.sleep(2500);     } catch (InterruptedException ex) {         Exceptions.printStackTrace(ex);     }     ph.finish();     return Collections.emptySet(); } And, maybe even more impressive, you can also do this: @Override public Set instantiate(ProgressHandle ph) throws IOException {     ph.start(1000);     ph.progress("Processing...");     try {         //Simulate some long process:         ph.progress("1/4 complete...", 250);         Thread.sleep(2500);         ph.progress("1/2 complete...", 500);         Thread.sleep(5000);         ph.progress("3/4 complete...", 750);         Thread.sleep(7500);         ph.progress("Complete...", 1000);         Thread.sleep(1000);     } catch (InterruptedException ex) {         Exceptions.printStackTrace(ex);     }     ph.finish();     return Collections.emptySet(); } The screenshots above show you what you should see when the Finish button is clicked in each case.

  • How do I put different textures on different walls? LWJGL

    - by lehermj

  • Why can't Java servlet sent out an object ?

    - by Frank
    I use the following method to send out an object from a servlet : public void doGet(HttpServletRequest request,HttpServletResponse response) throws IOException { String Full_URL=request.getRequestURL().append("?"+request.getQueryString()).toString(); String Contact_Id=request.getParameter("Contact_Id"); String Time_Stamp=Get_Date_Format(6),query="select from "+Contact_Info_Entry.class.getName()+" where Contact_Id == '"+Contact_Id+"' order by Contact_Id desc"; PersistenceManager pm=null; try { pm=PMF.get().getPersistenceManager(); // note that this returns a list, there could be multiple, DataStore does not ensure uniqueness for non-primary key fields List<Contact_Info_Entry> results=(List<Contact_Info_Entry>)pm.newQuery(query).execute(); Write_Serialized_XML(response.getOutputStream(),results.get(0)); } catch (Exception e) { Send_Email(Email_From,Email_To,"Check_License_Servlet Error [ "+Time_Stamp+" ]",new Text(e.toString()+"\n"+Get_Stack_Trace(e)),null); } finally { pm.close(); } } /** Writes the object and CLOSES the stream. Uses the persistance delegate registered in this class. * @param os The stream to write to. * @param o The object to be serialized. */ public static void writeXMLObject(OutputStream os,Object o) { // Classloader reference must be set since netBeans uses another class loader to loead the bean wich will fail in some circumstances. • Servlet response wrapper has encoding problem

    - by John O
    A servlet response wrapper is being used in a Servlet Filter. The idea is that the response is manipulated, with a 'nonce' value being injected into forms, as part of defence against CSRF attacks. The web app is using UTF-8 everywhere. When the Servlet Filter is absent, no problems. When the filter is added, encoding issues occur. (It seems as if the response is reverting to 8859-1.) The guts of the code : final class CsrfResponseWrapper extends AbstractResponseWrapper { ... byte[] modifyResponse(byte[] aInputResponse){ ... String originalInput = new String(aInputResponse, encoding); String modifiedResult = addHiddenParamToPostedForms(originalInput); result = modifiedResult.getBytes(encoding); ... } ... } As I understand it, the transition between byte-land and String-land should specify an encoding. That is done here, as you can see, in two places. The value of the 'encoding' variable is 'UTF-8'; the alteration of the String itself is standard string manipulation (with a regex), and never specifies an encoding (addHiddenParamToPostedForms). Where am I in error about the encoding? EDIT: Here is the base class (sorry it's rather long): package hirondelle.web4j.security; import javax.servlet.ServletOutputStream; import javax.servlet.ServletResponse; import javax.servlet.http.HttpServletResponse; import javax.servlet.http.HttpServletResponseWrapper; import java.io.ByteArrayOutputStream; import java.io.IOException; import java.io.PrintWriter; /** Abstract Base Class for altering response content. For now, keep package-private.) */ abstract class AbstractResponseWrapper extends HttpServletResponseWrapper { AbstractResponseWrapper(ServletResponse aServletResponse) throws IOException { super((HttpServletResponse)aServletResponse); fOutputStream = new ModifiedOutputStream(aServletResponse.getOutputStream()); fWriter = new PrintWriter(fOutputStream); } /** Return the modified response. */ abstract byte[] modifyResponse(byte[] aInputResponse); /** Standard servlet method. */ public final ServletOutputStream getOutputStream() { //fLogger.fine("Modified Response : Getting output stream."); if ( fWriterReturned ) { throw new IllegalStateException(); } fOutputStreamReturned = true; return fOutputStream; } /** Standard servlet method. */ public final PrintWriter getWriter() { //fLogger.fine("Modified Response : Getting writer."); if ( fOutputStreamReturned ) { throw new IllegalStateException(); } fWriterReturned = true; return fWriter; } // PRIVATE /* Well-behaved servlets return either an OutputStream or a PrintWriter, but not both. */ private PrintWriter fWriter; private ModifiedOutputStream fOutputStream; /* These items are used to implement conformance to the javadoc for ServletResponse, regarding exceptions being thrown. */ private boolean fWriterReturned; private boolean fOutputStreamReturned; /** Modified low level output stream. */ private class ModifiedOutputStream extends ServletOutputStream { public ModifiedOutputStream(ServletOutputStream aOutputStream) { fServletOutputStream = aOutputStream; fBuffer = new ByteArrayOutputStream(); } /** Must be implemented to make this class concrete. */ public void write(int aByte) { fBuffer.write(aByte); } public void close() throws IOException { if ( !fIsClosed ){ processStream(); fServletOutputStream.close(); fIsClosed = true; } } public void flush() throws IOException { if ( fBuffer.size() != 0 ){ if ( !fIsClosed ) { processStream(); fBuffer = new ByteArrayOutputStream(); } } } /** Perform the core processing, by calling the abstract method. */ public void processStream() throws IOException { fServletOutputStream.write(modifyResponse(fBuffer.toByteArray())); fServletOutputStream.flush(); } // PRIVATE // private ServletOutputStream fServletOutputStream; private ByteArrayOutputStream fBuffer; /** Tracks if this stream has been closed. */ private boolean fIsClosed = false; } }

  • JAVA image transfer problem

    - by user579098
    Hi, I have a school assignment, to send a jpg image,split it into groups of 100 bytes, corrupt it, use a CRC check to locate the errors and re-transmit until it eventually is built back into its original form. It's practically ready, however when I check out the new images, they appear with errors.. I would really appreciate if someone could look at my code below and maybe locate this logical mistake as I can't understand what the problem is because everything looks ok :S For the file with all the data needed including photos and error patterns one could download it from this link:http://rapidshare.com/#!download|932tl2|443122762|Data.zip|739 Thanks in advance, Stefan p.s dont forget to change the paths in the code for the image and error files package networks; import java.io.*; // for file reader import java.util.zip.CRC32; // CRC32 IEEE (Ethernet) public class Main { /** * Reads a whole file into an array of bytes. * @param file The file in question. * @return Array of bytes containing file data. * @throws IOException Message contains why it failed. */ public static byte[] readFileArray(File file) throws IOException { InputStream is = new FileInputStream(file); byte[] data=new byte[(int)file.length()]; is.read(data); is.close(); return data; } /** * Writes (or overwrites if exists) a file with data from an array of bytes. * @param file The file in question. * @param data Array of bytes containing the new file data. * @throws IOException Message contains why it failed. */ public static void writeFileArray(File file, byte[] data) throws IOException { OutputStream os = new FileOutputStream(file,false); os.write(data); os.close(); } /** * Converts a long value to an array of bytes. * @param data The target variable. * @return Byte array conversion of data. * @see http://www.daniweb.com/code/snippet216874.html */ public static byte[] toByta(long data) { return new byte[] { (byte)((data >> 56) & 0xff), (byte)((data >> 48) & 0xff), (byte)((data >> 40) & 0xff), (byte)((data >> 32) & 0xff), (byte)((data >> 24) & 0xff), (byte)((data >> 16) & 0xff), (byte)((data >> 8) & 0xff), (byte)((data >> 0) & 0xff), }; } /** * Converts a an array of bytes to long value. * @param data The target variable. * @return Long value conversion of data. * @see http://www.daniweb.com/code/snippet216874.html */ public static long toLong(byte[] data) { if (data == null || data.length != 8) return 0x0; return (long)( // (Below) convert to longs before shift because digits // are lost with ints beyond the 32-bit limit (long)(0xff & data[0]) << 56 | (long)(0xff & data[1]) << 48 | (long)(0xff & data[2]) << 40 | (long)(0xff & data[3]) << 32 | (long)(0xff & data[4]) << 24 | (long)(0xff & data[5]) << 16 | (long)(0xff & data[6]) << 8 | (long)(0xff & data[7]) << 0 ); } public static byte[] nextNoise(){ byte[] result=new byte[100]; // copy a frame's worth of data (or remaining data if it is less than frame length) int read=Math.min(err_data.length-err_pstn, 100); System.arraycopy(err_data, err_pstn, result, 0, read); // if read data is less than frame length, reset position and add remaining data if(read<100){ err_pstn=100-read; System.arraycopy(err_data, 0, result, read, err_pstn); }else // otherwise, increase position err_pstn+=100; // return noise segment return result; } /** * Given some original data, it is purposefully corrupted according to a * second data array (which is read from a file). • Problem when trying to connect to a desktop server from android on wifi

    - by thiagolee
    Hello, I am trying to send a file from the phone running Android 1.5 to a server on a desktop. I wrote some code, which works on emulator, but on the phone it doesn't. I'm connecting to the network through WiFi. It works, I can access the internet through my phone and I've configured my router. The application stops when I'm trying to connect. I have the permissions. Someone have any ideas, below is my code. • Run bat file in Java and wait 2

    - by Savvas Dalkitsis
    This is a followup question to my other question : http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2434125/run-bat-file-in-java-and-wait The reason i am posting this as a separate question is that the one i already asked was answered correctly. From some research i did my problem is unique to my case so i decided to create a new question. Please go read that question before continuing with this one as they are closely related. Running the proposed code blocks the program at the waitFor invocation. After some research i found that the waitFor method blocks if your process has output that needs to be proccessed so you should first empty the output stream and the error stream. I did those things but my method still blocks. I then found a suggestion to simply loop while waiting the exitValue method to return the exit value of the process and handle the exception thrown if it is not, pausing for a brief moment as well so as not to consume all the CPU. I did this: import java.io.BufferedReader; import java.io.IOException; import java.io.InputStreamReader; public class Test { public static void main(String[] args) { try { Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec( "cmd /k start SQLScriptsToRun.bat" + " -UuserName -Ppassword" + " projectName"); final BufferedReader input = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(p.getInputStream())); final BufferedReader error = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(p.getErrorStream())); new Thread(new Runnable() { @Override public void run() { try { while (input.readLine()!=null) {} } catch (IOException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } } }).start(); new Thread(new Runnable() { @Override public void run() { try { while (error.readLine()!=null) {} } catch (IOException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } } }).start(); int i = 0; boolean finished = false; while (!finished) { try { i = p.exitValue(); finished = true; } catch (IllegalThreadStateException e) { e.printStackTrace(); try { Thread.sleep(500); } catch (InterruptedException e1) { e1.printStackTrace(); } } } System.out.println(i); } catch (IOException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } } } but my process will not end! I keep getting this error: java.lang.IllegalThreadStateException: process has not exited Any ideas as to why my process will not exit? Or do you have any libraries to suggest that handle executing batch files properly and wait until the execution is finished?

  • How Can I create different selectors for accepting new connection in java NIO

    - by Deepak
    I want to write java tcp socket programming using java NIO. Its working fine. But I am using the same selector for accepting reading from and writing to the clients. How Can I create different selectors for accepting new connection in java NIO, reading and writing. Is there any online help. Actually when I am busy in reading or writing my selector uses more iterator. So If more number of clients are connected then performance of accepting new coneection became slow. But I donot want the accepting clients to be slow // Create a selector and register two socket channels Selector selector = null; try { // Create the selector selector = Selector.open(); // Create two non-blocking sockets. This method is implemented in // e173 Creating a Non-Blocking Socket. SocketChannel sChannel1 = createSocketChannel("hostname.com", 80); SocketChannel sChannel2 = createSocketChannel("hostname.com", 80); // Register the channel with selector, listening for all events sChannel1.register(selector, sChannel1.validOps()); sChannel2.register(selector, sChannel1.validOps()); } catch (IOException e) { } // Wait for events while (true) { try { // Wait for an event selector.select(); } catch (IOException e) { // Handle error with selector break; } // Get list of selection keys with pending events Iterator it = selector.selectedKeys().iterator(); // Process each key at a time while (it.hasNext()) { // Get the selection key SelectionKey selKey = (SelectionKey)it.next(); // Remove it from the list to indicate that it is being processed it.remove(); try { processSelectionKey(selKey); } catch (IOException e) { // Handle error with channel and unregister selKey.cancel(); } } } public void processSelectionKey(SelectionKey selKey) throws IOException { // Since the ready operations are cumulative, // need to check readiness for each operation if (selKey.isValid() && selKey.isConnectable()) { // Get channel with connection request SocketChannel sChannel = (SocketChannel)selKey.channel(); boolean success = sChannel.finishConnect(); if (!success) { // An error occurred; handle it // Unregister the channel with this selector selKey.cancel(); } } if (selKey.isValid() && selKey.isReadable()) { // Get channel with bytes to read SocketChannel sChannel = (SocketChannel)selKey.channel(); // See e174 Reading from a SocketChannel } if (selKey.isValid() && selKey.isWritable()) { // Get channel that's ready for more bytes SocketChannel sChannel = (SocketChannel)selKey.channel(); } } Thanks Deepak
