  • sqllite and populating list view, android

    - by Rob Bushway
I am populating a text and list view from a sqllite database. The data is populating from the cursor correctly (I see the list filling with text rows), but I'm not able to see the actual text in the rows - all I see are empty rows. For the life of me, I can't figure out what I'm not able to see the data in the text rows. My layouts: Tab layout: list layout: row layout: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> / My topics activity package com.gotquestions.gqapp; import com.gotquestions.gqapp.R.layout; import android.R; import android.app.ListActivity; import android.database.Cursor; import android.database.SQLException; import android.os.Bundle; import android.widget.SimpleCursorAdapter; public class TopicsActivity extends ListActivity { private DataBaseHelper myDbHelper; public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); // DataBaseHelper myDbHelper = new DataBaseHelper(this); myDbHelper = new DataBaseHelper(this); //test try { myDbHelper.openDataBase(); }catch(SQLException sqle){ throw sqle; } setContentView(layout.list_layout); Cursor c = myDbHelper.fetchAllTopics(); startManagingCursor(c); String[] from = new String[] { DataBaseHelper.KEY_TITLE }; int[] to = new int[] { R.id.text1 }; // Now create an array adapter and set it to display using our row SimpleCursorAdapter notes = new SimpleCursorAdapter(this, layout.notes_row, c, from, to); setListAdapter(notes); myDbHelper.close(); } } My database helper: package com.gotquestions.gqapp; import java.io.FileOutputStream; import java.io.IOException; import java.io.InputStream; import java.io.OutputStream; import android.content.Context; import android.database.Cursor; import android.database.SQLException; import android.database.sqlite.SQLiteDatabase; import android.database.sqlite.SQLiteException; import android.database.sqlite.SQLiteOpenHelper; import android.util.Log; public class DataBaseHelper extends SQLiteOpenHelper{ //The Android's default system path of your application database. private static String DB_PATH = "/data/data/com.gotquestions.gqapp/databases/"; private static String DB_NAME = "gotquestions_database.mp3"; public static final String KEY_TITLE = "topic_title"; public static final String KEY_ARTICLE_TITLE = "article_title"; public static final String KEY_ROWID = "_id"; private static final String TAG = null; private SQLiteDatabase myDataBase; // private final Context myContext; /** * Constructor * Takes and keeps a reference of the passed context in order to access to the application assets and resources. * @param context */ public DataBaseHelper(Context context) { super(context, DB_NAME, null, 1); this.myContext = context; } /** * Creates a empty database on the system and rewrites it with your own database. * */ public void createDataBase() throws IOException{ boolean dbExist = checkDataBase(); if(dbExist){ //do nothing - database already exist }else{ //By calling this method and empty database will be created into the default system path //of your application so we are gonna be able to overwrite that database with our database. this.getReadableDatabase(); try { copyDataBase(); } catch (IOException e) { throw new Error("Error copying database"); } } } /** * Check if the database already exist to avoid re-copying the file each time you open the application. * @return true if it exists, false if it doesn't */ private boolean checkDataBase(){ SQLiteDatabase checkDB = null; try{ String myPath = DB_PATH + DB_NAME; checkDB = SQLiteDatabase.openDatabase(myPath, null, SQLiteDatabase.OPEN_READONLY); }catch(SQLiteException e){ //database does't exist yet. } if(checkDB != null){ checkDB.close(); } return checkDB != null ? • Java File URI error ?

    - by Frank
I need to get a file object online, and I know the file is located at : http://nmjava.com/Dir_App_IDs/Dir_GlassPaneDemo/GlassPaneDemo_2010_04_06_15_00_SNGRGLJAMX If I paste it into my browser's url, I'll be able to download this file, now I'm trying to get it with Java, my code looks like this : String File_Url="http://nmjava.com/Dir_App_IDs/Dir_GlassPaneDemo/GlassPaneDemo_2010_04_06_15_00_SNGRGLJAMX"; Object myObject=Get_Online_File(new URI(File_Url)); Object Get_Online_File(URI File_Uri) throws IOException { return readObject(new ObjectInputStream(new FileInputStream(new File(File_Uri)))); } public static synchronized Object readObject(ObjectInput in) throws IOException { Object o; ...... return o; } But I got the following error message : java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: URI scheme is not "file" at java.io.File.<init>(File.java:366) Why ? How to fix it ? Frank

  • Bluetooth connect to a RS232 adapter in android

    - by ThePosey
Hello All, I am trying to use the Bluetooth Chat sample API app that google provides to connect to a bluetooth RS232 adapter hooked up to another device. Here is the app for reference: http://developer.android.com/resources/samples/BluetoothChat/index.html And here is the spec sheet for the RS232 connector just for reference: http://serialio.com/download/Docs/BlueSnap-guide-4.77%5FCommands.pdf Well the problem is that when I go to connect to the device with: mmSocket.connect(); (BluetoothSocket::connect()) I always get an IOException error thrown by the connect method. When I do a toString on the exception I get "Service discovery failed". My question is mostly what are the cases that would cause an IOException to get thrown in the connect method? I know those are in the source somewhere but I don't know exactly how the java layer that you write apps in and the C/C++ layer that contains the actual stacks interface. I know that it uses the bluez bluetooth stack which is written in C/C++ but not sure how that ties into the java layer which is what I would think is throwing the exception. Any help on pointing me to where I can try to dissect this issue would be incredible. Also just to note I am able to pair with the RS232 adapter just fine but I am never able to actually connect. Here is the logcat output for more reference: I/ActivityManager( 1018): Displayed activity com.example.android.BluetoothChat/.DeviceListActivity: 326 ms (total 326 ms) E/BluetoothService.cpp( 1018): stopDiscoveryNative: D-Bus error in StopDiscovery: org.bluez.Error.Failed (Invalid discovery session) D/BluetoothChat( 1729): onActivityResult -1 D/BluetoothChatService( 1729): connect to: 00:06:66:03:0C:51 D/BluetoothChatService( 1729): setState() STATE_LISTEN - STATE_CONNECTING E/BluetoothChat( 1729): + ON RESUME + I/BluetoothChat( 1729): MESSAGE_STATE_CHANGE: STATE_CONNECTING I/BluetoothChatService( 1729): BEGIN mConnectThread E/BluetoothService.cpp( 1018): stopDiscoveryNative: D-Bus error in StopDiscovery: org.bluez.Error.Failed (Invalid discovery session) E/BluetoothEventLoop.cpp( 1018): event_filter: Received signal org.bluez.Device:PropertyChanged from /org/bluez/1498/hci0/dev_00_06_66_03_0C_51 I/BluetoothChatService( 1729): CONNECTION FAIL TOSTRING: java.io.IOException: Service discovery failed D/BluetoothChatService( 1729): setState() STATE_CONNECTING - STATE_LISTEN D/BluetoothChatService( 1729): start D/BluetoothChatService( 1729): setState() STATE_LISTEN - STATE_LISTEN I/BluetoothChat( 1729): MESSAGE_STATE_CHANGE: STATE_LISTEN V/BluetoothEventRedirector( 1080): Received android.bleutooth.device.action.UUID I/NotificationService( 1018): enqueueToast pkg=com.example.android.BluetoothChat callback=android.app.ITransientNotification$Stub$Proxy@446327c8 duration=0 I/BluetoothChat( 1729): MESSAGE_STATE_CHANGE: STATE_LISTEN E/BluetoothEventLoop.cpp( 1018): event_filter: Received signal org.bluez.Device:PropertyChanged from /org/bluez/1498/hci0/dev_00_06_66_03_0C_51 V/BluetoothEventRedirector( 1080): Received android.bleutooth.device.action.UUID The device I'm trying to connect to is the 00:06:66:03:0C:51 which I can scan for and apparently pair with just fine.

  • Method may fail to close stream on exception

    - by 01
I get the critical error with finbugs The method creates an IO stream object, does not assign it to any fields, pass it to other methods, or return it, and does not appear to close it on all possible exception paths out of the method. This may result in a file descriptor leak. It is generally a good idea to use a finally block to ensure that streams are closed. try { ... stdError = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(p.getErrorStream())); ... } catch (IOException e) { throw new RuntimeException(e); } finally { try { if (stdInput != null) { stdInput.close(); } if (stdError != null) { stdError.close(); } } catch (IOException e) { throw new RuntimeException(e); } } do i need to close also InputStreamReader or p.getErrorStream(it returns InputStream) ??

  • Does throwing an exception in an EvalFunc pig UDF skip just that line, or stop completely?

    - by Daniel Huckstep
I have a User Defined Function (UDF) written in Java to parse lines in a log file and return information back to pig, so it can do all the processing. It looks something like this: public abstract class Foo extends EvalFunc<Tuple> { public Foo() { super(); } public Tuple exec(Tuple input) throws IOException { try { // do stuff with input } catch (Exception e) { throw WrappedIOException.wrap("Error with line", e); } } } My question is: if it throws the IOException, will it stop completely, or will it return results for the rest of the lines that don't throw an exception? Example: I run this in pig REGISTER myjar.jar DEFINE Extractor com.namespace.Extractor(); logs = LOAD '$IN' USING TextLoader AS (line: chararray); events = FOREACH logs GENERATE FLATTEN(Extractor(line)); With this input: 1.5 7 "Valid Line" 1.3 gghyhtt Inv"alid line"" I throw an exceptioN!! 1.8 10 "Valid Line 2" Will it process the two lines and will 'logs' have 2 tuples, or will it just die in a fire?

  • How do I open an already opened file with a .net StreamReader?

    - by Jon Cage
I have some .csv files which I'm using as part of a test bench. I can open them and read them without any problems unless I've already got the file open in Excel in which case I get an IOException: System.IO.IOException : The process cannot access the file 'TestData.csv' because it is being used by another process. This is a snippet from the test bench: using (CsvReader csv = new CsvReader(new StreamReader(new FileStream(fullFilePath, FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read)), false)) { // Process the file } Is this a limitation of StreamReader? I can open the file in other applications (Notepad++ for example) so it can't be an O/S problem. Maybe I need to use some other class? If anyone knows how I can get round this (aside from closing excel!) I'd be very grateful.

  • Apache HttpClient CoreConnectionPNames.CONNECTION_TIMEOUT does nothing ?

    - by Maxim Veksler
Hi, I'm testing some result from HttpClient that looks irrational. It seems that setting CoreConnectionPNames.CONNECTION_TIMEOUT = 1 has no effect because send request to different host return successfully with connect timeout 1 which IMHO can't be the case (1ms to setup TCP handshake???) Am I misunderstood something or is something very strange going on here? The httpclient version I'm using as can be seen in this pom.xml is <dependency> <groupId>org.apache.httpcomponents</groupId> <artifactId>httpclient</artifactId> <version>4.0.1</version> <type>jar</type> </dependency> Here is the code: import java.io.IOException; import java.util.Random; import org.apache.http.HttpEntity; import org.apache.http.HttpResponse; import org.apache.http.client.ClientProtocolException; import org.apache.http.client.HttpClient; import org.apache.http.client.methods.HttpGet; import org.apache.http.client.methods.HttpUriRequest; import org.apache.http.impl.client.DefaultHttpClient; import org.apache.http.params.CoreConnectionPNames; import org.apache.http.util.EntityUtils; import org.apache.log4j.Logger; public class TestNodeAliveness { private static Logger log = Logger.getLogger(TestNodeAliveness.class); public static boolean nodeBIT(String elasticIP) throws ClientProtocolException, IOException { try { HttpClient client = new DefaultHttpClient(); // The time it takes to open TCP connection. client.getParams().setParameter(CoreConnectionPNames.CONNECTION_TIMEOUT, 1); // Timeout when server does not send data. client.getParams().setParameter(CoreConnectionPNames.SO_TIMEOUT, 5000); // Some tuning that is not required for bit tests. client.getParams().setParameter(CoreConnectionPNames.STALE_CONNECTION_CHECK, false); client.getParams().setParameter(CoreConnectionPNames.TCP_NODELAY, true); HttpUriRequest request = new HttpGet("http://" + elasticIP); HttpResponse response = client.execute(request); HttpEntity entity = response.getEntity(); if(entity == null) { return false; } else { System.out.println(EntityUtils.toString(entity)); } // Close just in case. request.abort(); } catch (Throwable e) { log.warn("BIT Test failed for " + elasticIP); e.printStackTrace(); return false; } return true; } public static void main(String[] args) throws ClientProtocolException, IOException { nodeBIT("google.com?cant_cache_this=" + (new Random()).nextInt()); } } Thank you.

  • when to use the abstract factory pattern?

    - by hguser
Hi: I want to know when we need to use the abstract factory pattern. Here is an example,I want to know if it is necessary. The UML THe above is the abstract factory pattern, it is recommended by my classmate. THe following is myown implemention. I do not think it is necessary to use the pattern. And the following is some core codes: package net; import java.io.IOException; import java.util.HashMap; import java.util.Map; import java.util.Properties; public class Test { public static void main(String[] args) throws IOException, InstantiationException, IllegalAccessException, ClassNotFoundException { DaoRepository dr=new DaoRepository(); AbstractDao dao=dr.findDao("sql"); dao.insert(); } } class DaoRepository { Map<String, AbstractDao> daoMap=new HashMap<String, AbstractDao>(); public DaoRepository () throws IOException, InstantiationException, IllegalAccessException, ClassNotFoundException { Properties p=new Properties(); p.load(DaoRepository.class.getResourceAsStream("Test.properties")); initDaos(p); } public void initDaos(Properties p) throws InstantiationException, IllegalAccessException, ClassNotFoundException { String[] daoarray=p.getProperty("dao").split(","); for(String dao:daoarray) { AbstractDao ad=(AbstractDao)Class.forName(dao).newInstance(); daoMap.put(ad.getID(),ad); } } public AbstractDao findDao(String id) {return daoMap.get(id);} } abstract class AbstractDao { public abstract String getID(); public abstract void insert(); public abstract void update(); } class SqlDao extends AbstractDao { public SqlDao() {} public String getID() {return "sql";} public void insert() {System.out.println("sql insert");} public void update() {System.out.println("sql update");} } class AccessDao extends AbstractDao { public AccessDao() {} public String getID() {return "access";} public void insert() {System.out.println("access insert");} public void update() {System.out.println("access update");} } And the content of the Test.properties is just one line: dao=net.SqlDao,net.SqlDao So any ont can tell me if this suitation is necessary?

  • FileInputStream negative skip

    - by Peter Štibraný
I'm trying to find more about history of FileInputStream.skip(negative) operation. According to InputStream documentation: If n is negative, no bytes are skipped. It seems that implementation of FileInputStream from Sun used to throw IOException instead, which is now also documented in Javadoc: If n is negative, an IOException is thrown, even though the skip method of the InputStream superclass does nothing in this case. I just tried that, and found that FileInputStream.skip(-10) did in fact return -10! It didn't threw exception, it didn't even return 0, it returned -10. (I've tried with Java 1.5.0_22 from Sun, and Java 1.6.0_18 from Sun). Is this a known bug? Why hasn't it been fixed, or why documentation is kept the way it is? Can someone point me to some discussion about this issue? I can't find anything.

  • How to use EJB 3.1 DI in Servlet ? (Could not inject session bean by @EJB from web application)

    - by kislo_metal
I am tying to merging web application(gwt, jpa) to an separate 2 application(business login in ejb/jpa and web client in gwt). Currently i can`t inject my beans from web application (simple servlet) I am using glassfish v3. module limbo(ejb jar) is in dependency of module lust (war). If I use lust with compiler output of limbo everything work perfect (if ejb in web application and the are deploying together as one application). Have I messed some container configuration ? Here is my steps: I have some limbo.jar (ejb-jar) deployed to ejb container. I do not use any ejb-jar.xml, only annotations. package ua.co.inferno.limbo.persistence.beans; import javax.ejb.Remote; @Remote public interface IPersistentServiceRemote { ArrayList<String> getTerminalACPList(); ArrayList<String> getBoxACPList(); ArrayList<String> getCNPList(); ArrayList<String> getCNSList(); String getProductNamebyID(int boxid); ArrayList<String> getRegionsList(String lang); long getSequence(); void persistEntity (Object ent); } package ua.co.inferno.limbo.persistence.beans; import ua.co.inferno.limbo.persistence.entitis.EsetChSchemaEntity; import ua.co.inferno.limbo.persistence.entitis.EsetKeyActionsEntity; @Local public interface IPersistentService { ArrayList<String> getTerminalACPList(); ArrayList<String> getBoxACPList(); ArrayList<String> getCNPList(); ArrayList<String> getCNSList(); String getProductNamebyID(int boxid); ArrayList<String> getRegionsList(String lang); long getSequence(); long persistPurchaseBox(EsetRegPurchaserEntity rp); void removePurchaseTempBox(EsetRegPurchaserTempEntity rpt); EsetRegionsEntity getRegionsById(long rid); void persistEntity (Object ent); } package ua.co.inferno.limbo.persistence.beans; import ua.co.inferno.limbo.persistence.entitis.EsetChSchemaEntity; import ua.co.inferno.limbo.persistence.entitis.EsetKeyActionsEntity; import ua.co.inferno.limbo.persistence.entitis.EsetRegBoxesEntity; import javax.ejb.Stateless; import javax.persistence.EntityManager; import javax.persistence.PersistenceContext; @Stateless(name = "PersistentService") public class PersistentServiceEJB implements IPersistentService, IPersistentServiceRemote{ @PersistenceContext(unitName = "Limbo") EntityManager em; public PersistentServiceEJB() { } ......... } Than i trying to use PersistentService session bean(included in limbo.jar) from web application in lust.war (the limbo.jar & lust.war is not in ear) package ua.co.lust; import ua.co.inferno.limbo.persistence.beans.IPersistentService; import javax.ejb.EJB; import javax.servlet.ServletException; import javax.servlet.annotation.WebServlet; import javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet; import javax.servlet.http.HttpServletRequest; import javax.servlet.http.HttpServletResponse; import java.io.IOException; @WebServlet(name = "ServletTest", urlPatterns = {"/"}) public class ServletTest extends HttpServlet { protected void doPost(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) throws ServletException, IOException { service(request, response); } protected void doGet(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) throws ServletException, IOException { service(request, response); } @EJB private IPersistentService pService; public void service(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) throws ServletException, IOException { String hi = pService.getCNPList().toString(); System.out.println("testBean.hello method returned: " + hi); System.out.println("In MyServlet::init()"); System.out.println("all regions" + pService.getRegionsList("ua")); System.out.println("all regions" + pService.getBoxACPList()); } } web.xm <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <web-app xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee/web-app_3_0.xsd" version="3.0"> <servlet> <servlet-name>ServletTest</servlet-name> <servlet-class>ua.co.lust.ServletTest</servlet-class> </servlet> </web-app> When servelt is loading i ge 404 eror (The requested resource () is not available.) • Android: handle unexpected internet disconnect while downloading data

    - by M.A. Cape
Hi, I have here a function that downloads data from a remote server to file. I am still not confident with my code. My question is, what if while reading the stream and saving the data to a file and suddenly I was disconnected in the internet, will these catch exceptions below can really catch that kind of incident? If not, can you suggest how to handle this kind of incident? Note: I call this function in a thread so that the UI won't be blocked. public static boolean getFromRemote(String link, String fileName, Context context){ boolean dataReceived = false; ConnectivityManager connec = (ConnectivityManager)context.getSystemService(Context.CONNECTIVITY_SERVICE); if (connec.getNetworkInfo(0).isConnected() || connec.getNetworkInfo(1).isConnected()){ try { HttpClient httpClient = new DefaultHttpClient(); HttpGet httpGet = new HttpGet(link); HttpParams params = httpClient.getParams(); HttpConnectionParams.setConnectionTimeout(params, 30000); HttpConnectionParams.setSoTimeout(params, 30000); HttpResponse response; response = httpClient.execute(httpGet); int statusCode = response.getStatusLine().getStatusCode(); if (statusCode == 200){ HttpEntity entity = response.getEntity(); InputStream in = null; OutputStream output = null; try{ in = entity.getContent(); String secondLevelCacheDir = context.getCacheDir() + fileName; File imageFile = new File(secondLevelCacheDir); output= new FileOutputStream(imageFile); IOUtilities.copy(in, output); output.flush(); } catch (IOException e) { Log.e("SAVING", "Could not load xml", e); } finally { IOUtilities.closeStream(in); IOUtilities.closeStream(output); dataReceived = true; } } }catch (SocketTimeoutException e){ //Handle not connecting to client !!!! • Is it possible to gzip and upload this string to Amazon S3 without ever being written to disk?

    - by BigJoe714
    I know this is probably possible using Streams, but I wasn't sure the correct syntax. I would like to pass a string to the Save method and have it gzip the string and upload it to Amazon S3 without ever being written to disk. The current method inefficiently reads/writes to disk in between. The S3 PutObjectRequest has a constructor with InputStream input as an option. import java.io.*; import java.util.zip.GZIPOutputStream; import com.amazonaws.auth.PropertiesCredentials; import com.amazonaws.services.s3.AmazonS3; import com.amazonaws.services.s3.AmazonS3Client; import com.amazonaws.services.s3.model.PutObjectRequest; public class FileStore { public static void Save(String data) throws IOException { File file = File.createTempFile("filemaster-", ".htm"); file.deleteOnExit(); Writer writer = new OutputStreamWriter(new FileOutputStream(file)); writer.write(data); writer.flush(); writer.close(); String zippedFilename = gzipFile(file.getAbsolutePath()); File zippedFile = new File(zippedFilename); zippedFile.deleteOnExit(); AmazonS3 s3 = new AmazonS3Client(new PropertiesCredentials( new FileInputStream("AwsCredentials.properties"))); String bucketName = "mybucket"; String key = "test/" + zippedFile.getName(); s3.putObject(new PutObjectRequest(bucketName, key, zippedFile)); } public static String gzipFile(String filename) throws IOException { try { // Create the GZIP output stream String outFilename = filename + ".gz"; GZIPOutputStream out = new GZIPOutputStream(new FileOutputStream(outFilename)); // Open the input file FileInputStream in = new FileInputStream(filename); // Transfer bytes from the input file to the GZIP output stream byte[] buf = new byte[1024]; int len; while ((len = in.read(buf)) > 0) { out.write(buf, 0, len); } in.close(); // Complete the GZIP file out.finish(); out.close(); return outFilename; } catch (IOException e) { throw e; } } }

  • Single console in eclipse for both Server and Client

    - by rits
    I am building a client server application using Java Sockets (in Windows XP). For that I need different consoles for both Client and Server(for Input and Output operations). But in eclipse both share a single console. Is there any plugin or some sort of cheat through which I can do this. After googling I got this, http://dev.eclipse.org/newslists/news.eclipse.newcomer/msg17138.html But, this seems to be only for write operations, not read operations. Also, I tried the following to launch application manually, but even this is not working........ package mypack; import java.io.BufferedOutputStream; import java.io.File; import java.io.FileOutputStream; import java.io.IOException; import java.io.OutputStream; import java.io.PrintStream; public class MySystem { public static void changeStream(String mainFile) throws IOException{ File temp = new File(".") ; String parentPath = temp.getCanonicalPath() ; System.out.println(parentPath); //creation of batch file starts here try{ File f = new File(parentPath + "\\a.bat") ; System.out.println("Created : " + f.createNewFile()); //f.deleteOnExit() ; FileOutputStream fos = new FileOutputStream(f) ; String str = "java " + mainFile ; String batchCommand="@echo off\n"+str+"\npause\nexit"; char arr[] = batchCommand.toCharArray() ; System.out.println(str) ; for(int i = 0 ; i < arr.length ; i++){ fos.write(arr[i]) ; } fos.close() ; } catch(Exception e){ } //creation of batch file ends here //execution of batch file starts here try{ Runtime r = Runtime.getRuntime() ; System.out.println(parentPath + "\\a.bat") ; Process p = r.exec(new String[]{"cmd","/k","start a.bat"},null,new File(parentPath)) ; OutputStream os = (OutputStream)p.getOutputStream() ; System.setOut( new PrintStream(os) ) ; System.out.println("Hello"); } catch(Exception e){ e.printStackTrace(); } //execution of batch file ends here } public static void main(String[] args) throws IOException { MySystem.changeStream("MySystem") ; } }

  • java checked exception in a catch clause compilation error

    - by srandpersonia
Hi, I was expecting an compilation error in the following program because of the throw statement in the catch block as IOException is a checked exception and it is not caught by another try block within the catch block. But I am getting "Hurray!" printed. Any explanation would be much appreciated. According to JLS 11.2.3, http://java.sun.com/docs/books/jls/third_edition/html/exceptions.html It is a compile-time error if a method or constructor body can throw some exception type E when both of the following hold: * E is a checked exception type * E is not a subtype of some type declared in the throws clause of the method or constructor. import java.io.*; public class Test{ public static void main(String args[]) { System.out.println(method()); } public static int method() { try{ throw new Exception(); } catch(Exception e){ throw new IOException(); //No compile time error } finally{ System.out.println("Hurray!"); } } } Thanks in advance.

  • How do I execute a sequence of servlets?

    - by Legend
I have some servlets that act as individual URLs for populating a database for some dummy testing. Something of the form: public class Populate_ServletName extends HttpServlet { public void doGet(HttpServletRequest req, HttpServletResponse resp) throws IOException { resp.setContentType("text/plain"); //Insert records //Print confirmation } } I have about 6 such servlets which I want to execute in a sequence. I was thinking of using setLocation to set the next page to be redirected but was not sure if this is the right approach because the redirects should happen after the records have been inserted. Specifically, I am looking for something like this: public class Populate_ALL extends HttpServlet { public void doGet(HttpServletRequest req, HttpServletResponse resp) throws IOException { resp.setContentType("text/plain"); //Call Populate_1 //Call Populate_2 //Call Populate_3 //... } } Any suggestions?

  • How to handle ordering of @Rule's when they are dependant on eachother

    - by Lennart Schedin
I use embedded servers that run inside Junit test cases. Sometimes these servers require a working directory (for example the Apache Directory server). The new @Rule in Junit 4.7 can handle these cases. The TemporaryFolder-Rule can create a temporary directory. A custom ExternalResource-Rule can be created for server. But how do I handle if I want to pass the result from one rule into another: import static org.junit.Assert.assertEquals; import java.io.*; import org.junit.*; import org.junit.rules.*; public class FolderRuleOrderingTest { @Rule public TemporaryFolder folder = new TemporaryFolder(); @Rule public MyNumberServer server = new MyNumberServer(folder); @Test public void testMyNumberServer() throws IOException { server.storeNumber(10); assertEquals(10, server.getNumber()); } /** Simple server that can store one number */ private static class MyNumberServer extends ExternalResource { private TemporaryFolder folder; /** The actual datafile where the number are stored */ private File dataFile; public MyNumberServer(TemporaryFolder folder) { this.folder = folder; } @Override protected void before() throws Throwable { if (folder.getRoot() == null) { throw new RuntimeException("TemporaryFolder not properly initialized"); } //All server data are stored to a working folder File workingFolder = folder.newFolder("my-work-folder"); dataFile = new File(workingFolder, "datafile"); } public void storeNumber(int number) throws IOException { dataFile.createNewFile(); DataOutputStream out = new DataOutputStream(new FileOutputStream(dataFile)); out.writeInt(number); } public int getNumber() throws IOException { DataInputStream in = new DataInputStream(new FileInputStream(dataFile)); return in.readInt(); } } } In this code the folder is sent as a parameter into the server so that the server can create a working directory to store data. However this does not work because Junit processes the rules in reverse order as they are defined in the file. The TemporaryFolder Rule will not be executed before the server Rule. Thus the root-folder in TempraryFolder will be null, resulting that any files are created relative to the current working directory. If I reverse the order of the attributes in my class I get a compile error because I cannot reference a variable before it is defined. I'm using Junit 4.8.1 (because the ordering of rules was fixed a bit from the 4.7 release)
