  Using the Team Foundation Server Integration Tools Platform. Versions: ClearCase: 7.1.1.2 Team Foundation Server: 2012 RTM Integration Tools: 2.2.20314.1 OS: Windows 2008 R2 ENT SP1 I was able to do a simple example migration of a few files by using the following approach: Using a dynamic view Creating a view shortcut drive (i.e. Z:\) Running the tools as a UI client (not as a windows service) Running the tools UI in user mode (do not “Run as Administrator”) Using the CC detailed history adapter Selecting the view shortcut drive (i.e. Z) on the Tools UI Connect to CC dialog Selecting the “Detect Changes in CC” option on the Tools UI Connect to CC dialog Changing the DisableTargetAnalysis value to True on the Tools UI configuration view I have yet to perform actual migrations for real projects, but will update this blog as I do.

• SATA vs SATA-II

  Hi all, I'm looking to replace my hard disk, which is a Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST3500320AS 500GB. My friend told me to get a SATA HDD, not a SATA-II. What is the difference between the two? And is my old HDD a SATA or SATA-II? The new HDD I'm looking at is a Seagate 7200.12 ST3500418AS, which the store assistant told me is a SATA-II. However, the Seagate website labels both as SATA only. I'm afraid that I'll buy a HDD which is incompatible with my system, especially since I'm going to install Windows 7 on it and I previously had the problem of Windows (Vista) setup not recognizing my hard drive. • Dell OpenManage Causing Periodic Slowness

  Today we diagnosed the cause of a Periodic slowness issue: see here. Dell OpenManage Server Administrator seems to have been causing hourly slowness. It would occasionally peg one of the CPUs for upwards of two minutes. Disabling it drastically improved the performance of the SQL Server. The server hardware: Dell R710 Dual Quad Core 2.9GHz Processors 96GB Memory 2 Disk RAID 1 SAS System Disk (Internal) 4 Disk RAID 10 SAS Log Disk (Internal) 14 Disk RAID 10 SAS Data Disk (External DAS MD1000) Windows 2008 Enterprise R2 x64 We installed the OS using Dell OpenManage Server Assistant, so I assume that it was correctly configured. For now we have disabled OMSA to alleviate the performance issues it was causing, but I'd like to be able to re-enable it. Has anyone had a similar experience that can shed a little light on the nature of this problem?

• How to securely generate memorable passwords?

  Whenever I need new passwords I use some tools to generate those, preferable memorable passwords, but I've been wondering how secure this might actually be. Using The xkcd random number generator is probably pretty bad, cat /dev/random is probably pretty good, but generating memorable passwords seems a bit more tricky. Whenever a program generates a memorable password, it only uses a subset of the total password space available, and it is not clear to me how big this space is. Of course a long password should help in this case, but if the `memorable' part of the program is too predictable, your passwords are not very good in the end. TL;DR: how secure are memorable password generators, given the fact that `memorable' passwords are a subset of total password space? Some tools I know of: pwgen -- seems ok, but passwords are not too memorable Mac Password Assistant - generates memorable passwords but it is unclear to me how this works.

  I am trying to install Oracle 11g(11.2.0.1.0) on Oracle Linux 6.4(Remote Server). I get the following error(s) when Database Configuration Assistant is running ORA-01092: ORACLE instance terminated Disconnection forced ORA-48210: Relation Not Found Can someone help me regarding this errors, I cant seem to find what exactly that I have to do to solve this issue. I have done the same install on Oracle Linux 5.7 but never faced this issue before. The only problem while installing(which happens on 5.7 too) is that the required packages fail, but upon checking, it seems much higher versions are already installed. Also I cant do a yum update because the system seems to have connectivity issues with public-yum.oracle.com as I cant ping it(even though the IP Address gets resolved)

If the ISOs are not customised, are they exactly the same content-wise as the Upgrade DVDs available for purchase?

  I just installed Calibre for ebook management via apt-get on Ubuntu 10.04, however I found out that it's one major version behind the current release, so I decided to reinstall it directly from sources. When I uninstalled the packaged version, apt added bunch of dependencies to the autoremove queue, and as I installed newer version of Calibre from sources, it has no knowledge of it being dependent on those packages. Now I basically have all libraries that I want, but they are still in the autoremove queue. The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required: libqt4-script libqt4-designer libqt4-dbus python-lxml python-cherrypy3 python-encutils libqt4-xmlpatterns libqt4-help python-qt4 python-clientform python-sip python-django python-mechanize libqt4-svg python-django-tagging libphonon4 libqt4-xml libqt4-assistant libqt4-webkit libqt4-scripttools python-beautifulsoup python-pypdf python-dateutil python-cssutils Use 'apt-get autoremove' to remove them. • Force the computer to always use current display settings

  So I'm having a terrible black screen problem with my new installation of Windows 8. The screen basically goes to black every time I turn it on or sleep, or connect to an external or monitor. I dont really know what steps actually cause the problem and cant seem to figure what steps allow the screen to come back, besides forcing restarts, going to sleep and waking up, and smashing Win + P. I have a strong feeling it's because the Switchable graphics I have (Intel HD + Radeon 5060), so I'm looking for a way to make the computer always use a specified mode (i.e the current mode I'm on, that does show stuff on the screen) and force it to use it everytime? Any ideas? EDIT: I've Installed all the latest drivers I've found. Tried most of the solutions around the web for this problem. Updated the BIOS to UEFI (from HP Support Assistant), etc. Laptop is an HP- Envy 14

• Best way to restore individual folders via Time Machine after clean Lion install?

  I'm doing a clean erase and install of Lion, and am looking for the best way to restore individual folders into my home directory via Time Machine. I've done a dummy run, clean Lion install, then 'browse other disks' in Time Machine, navigate to my home folder and 'restore' what I need, such as pictures/music and folders inside the .library folder (such as Mail and Keychains). However, because of some problems in Vista, at the time of crash, I installed Windows 7 trial. I had some urgent work to do which I accomplished and then I switched the PC off. Now I have purchased Windows 8 Pro Upgrade ($40 version). If I go for a clean install, will it be able to install Windows 8 on not-activated Windows 7? During activation, if it asks for Vista serial number, I can provide it. Or will I first have to install Vista and then only it will allow me to install Windows 8? Also, I used the Upgrade Assistant to download Windows 8 on my laptop (Windows 7 OEM). Will it work on my above mentioned desktop?

Everything went great, but none of the Modern UI Apps open, and they do not show any error messages or warnings, they just close right away I opened them. I tried to open Skydrive, Windows Store, Photo App,Music App, Bing, Videos , Finances and all the available Modern UI apps on my screen My screen resolution is 1080p, so it is not a resolution issue, I'm using a Windows account , but i switched to Local account but didn't solved the issue. • Make windows vista file explorer act normally

  Is there some file I can remove or something I can do to globally ensure that windows visa/xp/etc doesn't do annoying things? Annoying things: 1) Hide the file extension 2) All these "meta" columns I could care less about in "details" view (rating, album, date taken, Assistant's name, Artist, 35mm focal length, City, Other City, etc...). All I want are Name, size, date created, date modified, and file extension. MAYBE file chmod settings. 3) That garbage in the left pane known as "favorite links." (Documents, desktop, photos, music, etc...) 4) Switching between detail view, large icon view, thumbnail view, list view, and tiles when I goto differnt folders, all I want is detail view, with the same columns every time. That's it. I shouldn't have to get third party software to make my file system browseable, but if I need to so be it... Why are all these settings buried away? It feels like I have to apply them onto each folder every time.

• Remote Installing OS X 10.5 on a PowerBook G4

  I recently acquired a PowerBook G4 (always loved the PPC architecture over Intel when it comes to Apple), currently it has OS X 10.4 installed. Unfortunately I can't find the original 10.5 install disc I had, though I made an ISO of it some time ago, which I've now burnt to a DVD-R DL disc (the SuperDrive is a DVD-R only iirc). This disc keeps being ejected by the PowerBook G4 (reads other discs just fine, except one). So I've been pondering doing a remote install, however the instructions I've seen are for MacBooks - I have DVD or CD Sharing installed, but the part in the instructions (http://guides.macrumors.com/Complete_Steps_to_Perform_a_Clean_OS_X_Reinstall_on_Your_MacBook_Air#Using_Remote_Install) about the 'Install Assistant', I don't get such a thing - only the BootCamp Installer. So my question is: How do I go about doing a remote install on this PowerBook G4? Or is there another alternative, without forking out on a new drive?

  Is there any way to make Visual Studio have "paired" editor panes, somewhat like XCode's Assistant Editor feature? More specifically, I'd like to replicate the XCode feature of having a .cpp file's .h partner be automatically open in an adjacent editor panel. So, when a .cpp file is opened in a text editor panel (let's say, on the left of the screen), its analogous .h file will open in another panel (on the right). That way both can be edited on the same screen at the same time, without the need to manually place both files in their respective editor panes. Hope that makes sense, I'm not really sure what terminology to use in order to search for existing solutions.

  I'm looking for a way to convert thousands of pdf's to searchable pdf's. I've used a program called "PDF Create Assistant" that came with Nuance's ecopy software. However, you can't select a folder, you have to go into each sub folder, select the files to convert, and then go to the next folder. What is another way to convert a large number of pdf's to searchable pdf's? Haven't had any suggestions. Surely there must be a way to batch convert pdf's(?).

  I have a 2006 vintage MacBook Pro (Intel Core 2 Duo) and have been using Boot Camp since it was in beta. I had been running XP SP2 on it with Tiger quite happily. I've recently wiped and reinstalled everything to upgrade to Leopard. After installing Leopard, I fired up the Boot camp assistant and used it to install the Windows 7 RC. That worked really nicely, but my HFS+ driver didn't work under Windows 7 yet so I decided to install Vista instead. I didn't repartition the drive, just launched the Vista installation disk from BIOS and told it to overwrite the existing Windows 7 install. It installed fine and I installed the Boot Camp drivers, still all fine. Now, however, every time I boot into Windows and login it hard reboots itself as the desktop is appearing. After this it works fine again. Until the next power off. Has anyone had any similar problems? Or can offer suggestions on how to solve this?

• Trouble accessing network drives in Windows 7

  Hi, Recently purchased a LaCiE network drive. Connected it to my router, configured it, added a user for myself. Installed the "Network Assistant" that came with it - no problem. Went to My Computer Network, found the network drive - was prompted for a login/password to see the contents, types \user and password (leading slash to get rid of DOMAIN) and accesses contents. There is one open share that I can access/mount without problem and there's another share with my user name as set-up via the network drive's web-based config. Double-clicked on that, prompted again. user/password doesn't work! It says I have no permissions but the user/pass combination is PERFECT. Some Windows Vista posts talk about a Local Security Policy menu - but that's nowhere to be found. Any ideas? (Windows 7 Professional BTW).

• Problem with bios update on Intel S3420GP

  I am using the Intel Develepment Assistant CD, but after choosing the newest update I can see a red text but just for a second. Afterwards it tells me to reboot, but it is still the same bios version as before. I can't find access the error message. The whole software seams to be a linux. Maybe I can access a console and look into the log files?? Or are there other solutions to update the bios? EDIT: I tried to download the bios/firmware update packages (using it via network share, because the usb stick wouldn't work), but the software wont use it.

• Creating Windows partition in Boot Camp without an install disc

  I have an old Macbook1,1 which has Snow Leopard on it. I'd like to get Win 7 on it by using Boot Camp Assistant, however my superdrive is not working (It just spits out any disc I put in within 10 seconds). I know how to get Win 7 installed by using USB drive, but I still need Boot Camp to create the Windows partition for me. I've made an ISO file of the install disc which I've mounted, but Boot Camp won't pick it up. It seems to only look in the superdrive. How can I get Boot Camp to skip requirement of an install disc? edit: nevermind, as it turns out the partition was already created by the time it asked for the disc!

• problem getting scanning to work on epson workforce 610

  i installed the latest epson software on my user's computer. everything works fine from the admin account (printing / scanning). yet, when i go to user's account (the standard user mode account the company employee uses on there machine) and launch the epson scan software or scan settings software it times out and puts up a dialog box asking me if i want to use the trouble assistant. my question is why would this all work in the admin account yet not work in the user mode account? any help is greatly appreciated.

• Can't access files on external drive after reformatting Macbook Pro

  I recently had to reformat my Macbook Pro, and imported my account and settings from Time Machine via the Migration Assistant. Everything on the Mac itself is fine, but now I don't have permission to access almost everything on my external drive. A number of folders have the little red 'no access' sign on them and I can't rename or move anything. Looking at the info for these files, it appears that access rights were attached only to my old user account. Is there some way to reassign these files and folders to my new user account? Thanks.
