• how to manage formating of text when read a save file?

  hello i have a java applet application in which i use rich text area . i write URDU the national language of PAKISTAN. i managed to do so with uni codes. the problem is, when i write urdu in text area and select a font and color for each line it do all of this but when i save this file using UTF-8 encoding and then open it again it shows all text formatted as i choose format of last line. my requirement is to open file as it is saved. i mean each file should have same formatting as i done before saving.

  Hello everybody, I am currently developing a Web-Application using Java EE where I'm using a Rich-Javascript-Editor (http://www.primefaces.org/showcase/ui/editor.jsf). As the user can easily add too many linebreaks that will be convertet to linebreak-tags, I need to remove all these Tags from the end of a String. Is there an elegant way of using Regex to accomplish this? An example String would be: "This is a test <b>bold</b><br/><br/>" Where obviously the last two tags have to be removed. • Breaking the SQL Compact 8K Limit?

  I am creating a desktop application that stores rich text documents to a SQL Compact database. Documents are converted to a byte array and stored as a Binary column, and I am running into SQL Compact's 8K limit for Binary field length. Is there a simple way to get around the 8K limit? I can come up with lots of complicated ways to do it, such as parsing into 8K chunks for storage and reassembling on fetch. But before I get into something that complex, I would like to make sure I can't solve the problem more simply, such as by changing data type. If there is no simple way of getting around the 8K limit, is thare a best practice for storing documents greater than 8K? Thanks for your help.

• RichFaces Toolbargroup centering a group

  Hello there I am trying use a toolbar so that it has three parts part A is aligned left part B is aligned Center part C is aligned right both the right and left i can use the location attribute ... but since there is no center attribute i am not able to center part b. I can use a rich:spacer but this makes the toolbar rigid and when the screen size is reduced the toolbar gets overlapped ... is there any i can center this without the toolbar getting over lapped. Any suggestions or workarounds is welcome cheers

• How do you make Python wait so that you can read the output?

  I've always been a heavy user of Notepad2, as it is fast, feature-rich, and supports syntax highlighting. Recently I've been using it for Python. My problem: when I finish editing a certain Python source code, and try to launch it, the screen disappears before I can see the output pop up. Is there any way for me to make the results wait so that I can read it, short of using an input() or time-delay function? Otherwise I'd have to use IDLE, because of the output that stops for you to read. (My apologies if this question is a silly one, but I'm very new at Python and programming in general.)

• TYPO3: How do i render tt_content text elements in my own extensions?

  I'm currently writing a TYPO3 extension which is configured with a list of tt_content UID's. These point to content elements of type "text" and i want to render them by my extension. Because of TYPO3s special way of transforming the text you enter in the rich text editing when it enters the database, and again transforming it when it is rendered to the frontend, i can not just output the database contents of the "bodytext" field. I want to render these texts as they would usually get rendered by TYPO3. How do I do that?

  in my cms i have index.php, where client must enter username and password. if they are correct, he'll moove to admin.php, where the cms is. but now hacker can enter to cms/admin.php, so my security now is awful. i know, that i can use $_SESSION variable. index.php - i can give some value to $_SESSION['success']: $_SESSION['success'] = TRUE, and in admin.php just verify it admin.php if($_SESSION['success'] == TRUE) { my script here... } else header("Location: index.php"); but i want to rich this effect without SESSION. could you give me an idea, how can i do it? thanks

• setTimeout doesn't work with window.location?

  i try to rich flash like effect when changing window location, but there is a small problem, i can't solve. look at the script please $(document).ready(function(){ $('a.flash').click(function(e) { e.preventDefault(); $('body').fadeOut(1500); setTimeout("", 1500); window.location=this.href; }); }); window.location=this.href must be done after 1500ms, but it doesn't happen. could you explain why? what is strange, when i try to write alert("something"); instead of window.location=this.href, it works fine.   I am attempting to use a Canvas to create a simple Cad application. I have been able to get lines to draw as I want. For now the only other thing I need is text. The user should be able to edit the text in place. ?Is one of these better to use for this over the others? Rich Text TextBlock TextBox Label A more important question, though, is once I have chosen which class to use for implementation, how do I set and get the text value in code? Since the app is in essence a cad application, text will be added, deleted, and altered often, so I am not attempting to put these in XAML, but code-behind. That is why I am asking about how to do this in code. If the answer is "use X.SetValue()" (or that family of methods), then please tell me what I am supposed to do with the required DependencyProperty reference? TIA. Paul

• Is it reasonable to start using Google Maps for Flash rather than Javascript version?

  I am planning to build a web application highly based on Google Maps API. I am considering either using the Javascript version, or the Flash version. I would like to create an interface which will be quite rich. Should I go for JS version of the API or Flash one? Also I do not plan to purchase the Flash, so ideally I would like to use some free Flex SDK that supports ActionScript. What would you recommend? Is it more reasonable to use JS or maybe better use the Flash Version. What are the limitations, pros and cons?

• How to break whenever any line of code executes

  I have a very strange bug, which I believe is caused by some code we have executing, but I'm not sure where. We can reproduce it to the point it happens whenever we click Tab, but short of putting a break point at the beginning of every method in the project to find out what is executing. Is there a way to set visual studio to break whenever anything executes? For those curious about the problem, every now and then, we have a few Rich Text Boxes that refuse to lose focus. You can't click out of it or tab out of it. We have no On Validation or On Text Changed events attached to the control, and believe it's an event attached somewhere else to something we just aren't noticing.

• cross domain DOM access and manipulation in Java ?

  In my Java app, how can I incorporate the browser (which loads and renders URLs) in Swing and access it's DOM and manipulate HTML ? How can you embed such browser in a Rich Internet Application and access it's DOM ? More specifically, Vaadin ? Is there a HTTP proxy class that can load an external URL, and render it to the user ? This was what I was doing on LAMP stack....but I want to switch to Vaadin or some Java web framework where I can just use Java to do everything from server-side to client-side logic design, so I can focus more on application logic.   I am a lifelong object-oriented programmer. My job is primarily java development, but I have experience in a number of languages. Ruby gave me my first real taste of functional programming. I loved the features Ruby borrowed from the functional paradigm such as closures and continuations. Eventually, I graduated to Scala. This has been a great way to gradually learn to approach non-trivial problems in a functional manner. Now I am interested in Clojure. I know all the sexy features that make it enticing (software transactional memory, macros, etc.), but I just can't get used to "thinking in lisp". I've seen Rich Hickey's screencasts aimed at java programmers, but they are geared towards explaining language features and not approaching real world problems. I am looking for any advice or resources which have made this transition easier for others.

• Need to dynamically-generate a "sticky note" text

  Working on a website that has an image of a sticky note which will change text somewhat frequently (every month or so) as new "todo" items are created on it. Font I'm currently using is not Web Safe and the text is slightly angled to match the skew of the sticky note as well. Now I'm a pragmatist, and in situations like this I would normally secede defeat and opt for something more CSS/HTML practical. But no more! I'm falling a bit behind on what's going on with HTML5, CSS3, PNG graphics, Flash (ugh), and/or any other rich visuals. I'm decent with PHP/CSS/JS (jquery), have dabbled in Flash/actionscript too. My question is: what tools/method should I be looking at here?

• Relational databases are not suited for my application - what's the alternative?

  Hi, I'm writing a CMS in PHP that allows the user to define different fields (e.g. a Blog page could have fields for Title (string), Content (rich text), Picture (file)). I need the user to be able to add and remove fields dynamically, and the only way I can think of to do it with relational DBs is to serialise all these values and store them in one cell. This seems like a slow approach and like I'm trying to fit something dynamic within a static structure. Could someone recommend anything that is PHP-compatible that would make this easier?

  Hello! We sell photoalbums which our customers create theirselves using a client album editor program (for Windows). Now we are going to develop an online program so customers could create their albums in the browser: upload photos and edit them. This is going to be a rich browser application with full graphics support. The problem is what technology to use? Our server application is build in Java and we think about Java Applets so that we could reuse some Java-code. We are also not very familiar with Flash. But some people say that Flash is preferred. Maybe there're some modern technologies now? SVG or some Google technologies (like GWT but with graphics support) or something? What do you think? Thanks in advance!

• How can i keep a data table thorough out my page?

  Hii, I have a data table, and this datatable will be dynamically manipulated. After certain manipulation at the end we will populate that to the database. Which state mechanism can i use for this to retain. I have tried both Session and ViewState but ViewState can't use with AJAX rich appplications. Session will be clear after the user session. i can't afford both these difficulties. Does any other mechanism to keep the datatable through out the page.

• Moving webshop storage to NoSQL solution

  If you had a webshop solution based on SQL Server relational DB what would be the reasons, if any, to move to NoSQL storage ? Does it even make sense to migrate datastores that rely on relations heavily to NoSQL? If starting from scratch, would you choose NoSQL solution over relational one for a webshop project, which will, after a while, again end up with a bunch of tables like Articles, Classifications, TaxRates, Pricelists etc. and a magnitude of relations between them? What's the support like in .NET (4.0) for MongoDB or MongoDB's support for .NET 4.0? Can I count on rich code generation tools similar to EF wizard, L2SQL wizard etc. for MongoDB? Because as what I have read so far, NoSQL's are mostly suited for document storage, simpler object models. Your answer to this question will help me make the right infrastructure design decisions.

• Can review changes in Acrobat Reader (Pro, or not) be 'applied' to a PDF?

  Hi there, As part of an enhancement to my workplace processes, we're trying to streamline review of various documents. Yeah, there's way better alternatives to what I'm about to suggest, but the reality is that I have no time allocated to investigate things like DAV, repo setups and such. What I do have time allocated for is improving workflow around tools we already use. So I tried to work through the Adobe PDF collaborative review cycle. I have to say it was pretty amazing, from the notify toolbar icon to doc merging, to user access control. They offer it all, EXCEPT the ability to actually apply review changes to a PDF!?! To clarify, after sending a PDF through the collab review cycle (involving a bunch for external editors and internal staff) the end result was a PDF full of rich feedback - but I can see no way to finalised and apply those 'accepted' review points to the PDF in question. I hope this is clear enough, feel free to ask questions to clarify - perhaps I'm just missing something obvious, but perhaps applying changes to an already existing PDF is not possible? -d
