• Numeric keyboard dismiss???

  HI all, I am having a 2 textFeild and 1 textview. out of 2 textfeild,one textfield requires number to be filled in there. so for that i hv provided numeric keyboard. i m not able to dismiss numeric keyboard,since i cant c any option to hit the numeric keyboard dismiss. is it possible to dismiss numeric keyboard ?? if yes than can anyone guide me through. regards shishir

  were doing some audio stuff and I keep seeing this in the Organizer Console. Sun May 2 20:16:48 unknown kernel[0] : i2s0: transmitter underrun (0) Are these transmitter underruns bad? I think its just when were shutting down audio input...but could a few of these cause some issues later on?

  I have created a UIMenuController and have set it a custom menu item like so: UIMenuController *menuController = [UIMenuController sharedMenuController]; UIMenuItem *item1 = [[UIMenuItem alloc] initWithTitle:@"Do This" action:@selector(item1)]; [menuController setMenuItems:[NSArray arrayWithObject:item1]]; But I wanted that object to be the only one to appear so I added this code: - (BOOL)canPerformAction: (SEL)action withSender: (id)sender { BOOL answer = NO; if (action == @selector(item1)) answer = YES; return answer; } The problem is it still shows other## Heading ## items, such as "Select", "Select All" and "Paste". This may have something to do with this being displayed in a UITextView. But how do I stop if from displaying all other items?

• presentModalViewController does not want to work when called from a protocol method

  I have a subview that when double tapped a protocol method on the subview's parent view controller is called like this... - (void)touchesEnded:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event { UITouch *theTouch = [touches anyObject]; if (theTouch.tapCount == 1) { } else if (theTouch.tapCount == 2) { if ([self.delegate respondsToSelector:@selector(editEvent:)]) { [self.delegate editEvent:dictionary]; } } } Here is the protocol method with the dictionary consuming code removed... - (void)editEvent:(NSDictionary){ EventEditViewController *eventEditViewController = [[EventEditViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"EventEditViewController" bundle:nil]; eventEditViewController.delegate = self; navigationController = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:eventEditViewController]; [self presentModalViewController:navigationController animated:YES]; [eventEditViewController release]; } The protocol method is called and runs without any errors but the modal view does not present itself. I temporarily copied the protocol method's code to an IBAction method for one of the parent's view button's to isolate it from the subview. When I tap this button the modal view works fine. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? Why does it work when executed from a button on the parent view, and not from a protocol method called from a subview. Here is what I have tried so far to work around the problem... Restarted xCode and the simulator Ran on the device (iTouch) Presenting eventEditViewController instead of navigationController Using Push instead of presentModal. delaying the call to the protocol with performSelector directly to the protocol, to another method in the subview which calls the protocol method, from the protocol method to another method with the presentModal calls. Using a timer. I have it currently setup so that the protocol method calls a known working method that presents a different view. Before calling presentModalViewController it pops a UIAlertView which works every time, but the modal view refuses to display when called via the protocol method. I'm stumped. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that I am calling the protocol method from a UIView class instead of a UIViewController class. Maybe I need to create a UIViewController for the subView??   I made a UIViewController, which programatically generates a UIScrollView. Everything's fine, but when I rotate the Device, the UIScollView should resize so it takes the complete width of my View. Is there a way to do that without rebuilding the complete UIScrollView ? Thx a lot !   I have a TableView controller class that uses a fetched results controller to display a list of 'patient' entities taken from a Core Data model. The sections of this table are taken from a patient attribute called 'location'. Here is the sort descriptor for the fetch request: NSSortDescriptor *locationDescriptor = [[NSSortDescriptor alloc] initWithKey:@"location" ascending:YES]; NSSortDescriptor *lastNameDescriptor = [[NSSortDescriptor alloc] initWithKey:@"lastName" ascending:YES]; NSArray *sortDescriptors = [[NSArray alloc] initWithObjects:locationDescriptor, lastNameDescriptor, nil]; Here is the initialisation code for the FRC: NSFetchedResultsController *aFetchedResultsController = [[NSFetchedResultsController alloc] initWithFetchRequest:fetchRequest managedObjectContext:managedObjectContext sectionNameKeyPath:@"location" cacheName:@"List"]; When I want to add a new 'patient' entity - I click an add button which then pushes an 'add new patient' view controller to the navigation stack. The first patient I add works fine. If I add a second patient - the app will sometimes crash with the following error: 2010-03-22 14:42:05.270 Patients[1126:207] Serious application error. Exception was caught during Core Data change processing: * -[NSCFArray insertObject:atIndex:]: index (1) beyond bounds (1) with userInfo (null) 2010-03-22 14:42:05.272 Patients[1126:207] Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSRangeException', reason: '** -[NSCFArray insertObject:atIndex:]: index (1) beyond bounds (1)' This only seems to happen if the patient's have a location added (if none is added then the location defaults to 'unknown'). It seems to have something to do with the sorting of the location too. For instance, if the first patient location = ward 14 and the second = ward 9 then it crashes without fail. I'm wondering if this is something to do with how I am asking the fetched results controller to sort the section names?? This bug is driving me nuts and I just can't figure it out. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  i have this in the superview: mySubView = [[MySubView alloc] init]; [self addSubview:mySubView]; [mySubView release]; then at some point later, in the sub view, this: [self removeFromSuperview]; when i debug it, i notice that the dealloc for the subview is never called, even though i'm fairly sure the reference count should be 0. any ideas why this might be? thanks.

  Okay, so I have done a ton of research on this and have been pulling my hair out for days trying to figure out why the following code leaks: [UIApplication sharedApplication].networkActivityIndicatorVisible = YES; UIImage *comicImage = [self getCachedImage:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@%@%@",@"http://url/",comicNumber,@".png"]]; self.imageView = [[[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:comicImage] autorelease]; [self.scrollView addSubview:self.imageView]; self.scrollView.contentSize = self.imageView.frame.size; self.imageWidth = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%f",imageView.frame.size.width]; [UIApplication sharedApplication].networkActivityIndicatorVisible = NO; Both self.imageView and self.scrollView are @propety (nonatomic, retain) and released in my dealloc.. imageView isn't used anywhere else in the code. This code is also run in a thread off of the main thread. If I run this code on my device, it will quickly run out of memory if I continually load this view. However, I've found if I comment out the following line: [UIApplication sharedApplication].networkActivityIndicatorVisible = YES; UIImage *comicImage = [self getCachedImage:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@%@%@",@"http://url/",comicNumber,@".png"]]; self.imageView = [[[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:comicImage] autorelease]; //[self.scrollView addSubview:self.imageView]; self.scrollView.contentSize = self.imageView.frame.size; self.imageWidth = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%f",imageView.frame.size.width]; [UIApplication sharedApplication].networkActivityIndicatorVisible = NO; Memory usage becomes stable, no matter how many times I load the view. I have gone over everything I can think to see why this is leaking, but as far as I can tell I have all my releases straight. Can anyone see what I am missing?

• C-array to NSData and back

  I'm attempting to save a c-style array of Vertex3D structs to an NSData object and get them back when reloading the app: NSData *vert = [NSData dataWithBytes:&vertices length:(sizeof(Vertex3D) * NUM_OF_VERTICES)]; This data is then saved and attempted to be read back into my c-array thusly: vertices = malloc(sizeof(Vertex3D) * NUM_OF_VERTICES); [vert getBytes:&vertices length:(sizeof(Vertex3D) * NUM_OF_VERTICES)]; The above results in “EXC_BAD_ACCESS” followed by: malloc: * error for object 0x48423c0: pointer being freed was not allocated I'm very new to programming so there's probably some fundamental memory management principle I'm unaware of. I have verified that the loaded NSData is identical to the saved one, but it's clear that the transition from c-array to NSData (and back) is not as I intended.

• Need help with creating complex UITableView items (like the Settings app).

  I hoping to create a custom Settings view, similar to the Settings application, but with more control over the UI and access to some settings (i need to lock some of the settings). Obvously, there are a variety of UI elements mixed in each row of application's UITableView. For example, the 'Airplane Mode' setting shows a UISwitch, while the 'Wi-Fi' setting has a text value adjacent to the disclosure symbol (''). Further complicating matters, is the grouping of these settings. I have some general questions about the approach I should take: Seems like i need to save the name of the setting, its current value, its grouping, and the type of UI element(s) needed to modify its value. i would like to make use [NSUserDefault standardUserDefaults], but not have these settings appear in the Settings application. I'm guessing that I will need to create my own settings-persistence class. is it better to build each one of these complex UI-element combinations in code or to create a series of custom views based on the UITableViewCell and load the appropriate one? i'm guessing the latter. some of the setting require that i load another view to select its value. assuming that the application is based on the Utility pattern, should the SettingsView manage the navigation stack, rather than having the app delegate do so? • populate UITableView from json

• UITextInput setMarkedText:selectedRange not working? (Can't be!)

  I want to set the marked text programmatically and since iOS5 UITextView and UITextField conform to UITextInput this should be possible but for some reason I always get the markedText to be nil. :( What am I missing here? This is what I've tried without success: (While the textview is firstResponder) 1.- When the text view contains no text: text: "", selectedRange : {0,0}, markedText: nil. [_textView setMarkedText:@"?" selectedRange:NSMakeRange(0, 1)]; Result: text : "", selectedRange: {0,0}, markedText: nil. (Nothing changed) 2.- When the text view contains text + some marked text: text : "AAA", selectedRange = {0,3}, marked text at the end : "??" then I do: [_textView setMarkedText:@"?" selectedRangeNSMakeRange(0,3)]; Result : text :"AAA", selectedRange: {0,3}, markedText: nil; (the marked text became nil) In both cases is like setMarkedText:selectedRange: would be setting the current marked text (if some) to nil. Any help would be highly appreciated :)

• Clipped UITextField with UITextFieldAlignmentRight

  Got a small problem with UITextField. I have a simple UITextField and when I set the textAlignment property to "right", it gets clipped by 1-2 pixels. It looks shite so I'm hoping someone has an idea of how to remedy this. • indentationLevelForRowAtIndexPath not being called for IB defined UITableViewCell

  I have defined a custom UITableViewCell in Interface Builder, which I am loading in my UITableViewController derived class. Inside the UITableViewDelegate class I have overloaded the indentationLevelForRowAtIndexPath method, but this is not being called. How do I trigger this to indent the cell, or should I be doing this another way?

To make it look proper with my cell, I need to move both the delete disclosure indicator (the red circle with a white line through it) and the Delete button itself over a few pixels. • dismissModalViewControllerAnimated: crashes in Simulator but not on phone

  I'm doing the following: [self.parentViewController dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:YES] This code fails using the Simulator but works with no issues on the phone itself. The Simulator's console shows no erros. I used NSLog statements to pinpoint this line of code as the culprit. When running on the phone, however, the console(windoworganizer) shows that the above code is executed and the application proceeds forward with no problem. When running the code in debugger, the following statement appears at the bottom of the Xcode debug window: GDB: Data Formatters temporarily unavailable, will re-try after a 'continue'. (Not safe to call dlopen at this time.) Then a window dispalys stating: Loading 43672 stack frames. (that sounds bad) In the debug window the following line appears numerous times: [UIView(Hierarchy) _makeSubtreePerformSelector:withObject:withObject:copySublayers:] Without getting too deep into my code, does anyone know about or have experience with this type of condition?
