  • iPhone: How to Determine Average Light/Dark of an Area of an UIImage

    - by TechZen
    I need to place labels with a transparent background over a variable-content UIImage. Readability will vary significantly depending on the relationship between the color of the label's text and the color/luminosity of the area of the image displayed under the label. Since the image will be constantly changing, the color of the label's text needs to change in sync. I have found several techniques for determining the color, perceived luminosity etc of a single pixel. However, I need to rather quickly (while a view loads) determine the rough perceived color/luminosity of an area of the UIImage under the frame of the UILabel. I presume I will also need to measure the alpha because the same color/luminosity looks different at different alpha values. Is there a way to calculate such a value for an area? Will I be reduced to simply summing pixels? If it comes to that, is there an algorithm to accomplish this? I've thought of two possible approaches: Perform some "folding" operations i.e. combining pixels from one half of the area to the other half. Then repeat until I get a single value. Would this be practical? How would you logically combine pixels to average their perceived color/luminosity? Sample a statistically significant number of pixels in the area and then combine them (somehow) to get a rough measure. I think this problem comes up a lot these days with people being so found of customizing backgrounds. Seems like something that would be worth my time to bang out a category or class to handle this and then share it around.

  • Access violation using LocalAlloc()

    - by PaulH
    I have a Visual Studio 2008 Windows Mobile 6 C++ application that is using an API that requires the use of LocalAlloc(). To make my life easier, I created an implementation of a standard allocator that uses LocalAlloc() internally: /// Standard library allocator implementation using LocalAlloc and LocalReAlloc /// to create a dynamically-sized array. /// Memory allocated by this allocator is never deallocated. That is up to the /// user. template< class T, int max_allocations > class LocalAllocator { public: typedef T value_type; typedef size_t size_type; typedef ptrdiff_t difference_type; typedef T* pointer; typedef const T* const_pointer; typedef T& reference; typedef const T& const_reference; pointer address( reference r ) const { return &r; }; const_pointer address( const_reference r ) const { return &r; }; LocalAllocator() throw() : c_( NULL ) { }; /// Attempt to allocate a block of storage with enough space for n elements /// of type T. n>=1 && n<=max_allocations. /// If memory cannot be allocated, a std::bad_alloc() exception is thrown. pointer allocate( size_type n, const void* /*hint*/ = 0 ) { if( NULL == c_ ) { c_ = LocalAlloc( LPTR, sizeof( T ) * n ); } else { HLOCAL c = LocalReAlloc( c_, sizeof( T ) * n, LHND ); if( NULL == c ) LocalFree( c_ ); c_ = c; } if( NULL == c_ ) throw std::bad_alloc(); return reinterpret_cast< T* >( c_ ); }; /// Normally, this would release a block of previously allocated storage. /// Since that's not what we want, this function does nothing. void deallocate( pointer /*p*/, size_type /*n*/ ) { // no deallocation is performed. that is up to the user. }; /// maximum number of elements that can be allocated size_type max_size() const throw() { return max_allocations; }; private: /// current allocation point HLOCAL c_; }; // class LocalAllocator My application is using that allocator implementation in a std::vector< #define MAX_DIRECTORY_LISTING 512 std::vector< WIN32_FIND_DATA, LocalAllocator< WIN32_FIND_DATA, MAX_DIRECTORY_LISTING > > file_list; WIN32_FIND_DATA find_data = { 0 }; HANDLE find_file = ::FindFirstFile( folder.c_str(), &find_data ); if( NULL != find_file ) { do { // access violation here on the 257th item. file_list.push_back( find_data ); } while ( ::FindNextFile( find_file, &find_data ) ); ::FindClose( find_file ); } // data submitted to the API that requires LocalAlloc()'d array of WIN32_FIND_DATA structures SubmitData( &file_list.front() ); On the 257th item added to the vector<, the application crashes with an access violation: Data Abort: Thread=8e1b0400 Proc=8031c1b0 'rapiclnt' AKY=00008001 PC=03f9e3c8(coredll.dll+0x000543c8) RA=03f9ff04(coredll.dll+0x00055f04) BVA=21ae0020 FSR=00000007 First-chance exception at 0x03f9e3c8 in rapiclnt.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x01ae0020.   • Multiplying matrices: error: expected primary-expression before 'struct'

    - by justin
    I am trying to write a program that is supposed to multiply matrices using threads. I am supposed to fill the matrices using random numbers in a thread. I am compiling in g++ and using PTHREADS. I have also created a struct to pass the data from my command line input to the thread so it can generate the matrix of random numbers. The sizes of the two matrices are also passed in the command line as well. I keep getting: main.cpp:7: error: expected primary-expression before 'struct' my code @ line 7 =: struct a{ int Arow; int Acol; int low; int high; }; My inpust are : Sizes of two matrices ( 4 arguments) high and low ranges in which o generate the random numbers between. Complete code: [headers] using namespace std; void *matrixACreate(struct *); void *status; int main(int argc, char * argv[]) { int Arow = atoi(argv[1]); // Matrix A int Acol = atoi(argv[2]); // WxX int Brow = atoi(argv[3]); // Matrix B int Bcol = atoi(argv[4]); // XxZ, int low = atoi(argv[5]); // Range low int high = atoi(argv[6]); struct a{ int Arow; // Matrix A int Acol; // WxX int low; // Range low int high; }; pthread_t matrixAthread; //pthread_t matrixBthread; pthread_t runner; int error, retValue; if (Acol != Brow) { cout << " This matrix cannot be multiplied. • How to skip extra lines before the header of a tab delimited delimited file in R

    - by Michael Dunn
    The software I am using produces log files with a variable number of lines of summary information followed by lots of tab delimited data. I am trying to write a function that will read the data from these log files into a data frame ignoring the summary information. The summary information never contains a tab, so the following function works: read.parameters <- function(file.name, ...){ lines <- scan("tmp.log", what="character", sep="\n") first.line <- min(grep("\\t", lines)) return(read.delim(file.name, skip=first.line-1, ...)) } However, these logfiles are quite big, and so reading the file twice is very slow. Surely there is a better way?

  • How do I handle TODO comments in VisualStudio 2010?

    - by Ivan
    I'd like Visual Studio to list all lines having "TODO: " in their beginning (usually after a comment sign which may vary depending on the file type) that can be found in any textual file in solution (may it be C#, VB, F#, T-SQL, ASPX, XAML or just TXT) in a special panel showing what's written in the line right to "TODO: ", project name (I use to contain many projects in one solution), file name, line number, code block name (like class and method) if possible. Do you know of such an extension or maybe VisualStudio has this feature built-in somewhere? For example NetBeans has a sort of out-of-the-box.

  • SQL Query: Using Cursors

    - by user2953138
    I need some directions for SQL Server & Cursors: I have a table named Order: OrderID Item Amount 1 A 10 1 B 1 2 A 5 2 C 4 2 D 21 3 B 11 I have a second table named Storage: Item Amount A 40 B 44 C 20 D 1 For every OrderID, I want to check if enough items are available. If not, I want to return an error message. How can this be done with Cursors at all? Are nested cursors the solution to this? My main issue is to understand how I can fetch the OrderID as actual "Group" of ID=1, 2, 3 etc. instead of line by line

  • .htaccess rewrite subdomains

    - by Cyclone
    Here is my current code: RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^example\.com [NC] #RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI}!^something RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^([^.]+)\.example\.com RewriteRule (.*) something/%1/$1 [QSA,L] My goal is to rewrite http://*.example.com/whatever to http://example.com/something/*/whatever, assuming * is the same for both and whatever is the same for both. However, I believe this is causing an infinite loop somehow, so I added that commented out line (RewriteBase is / btw), but if I uncomment then the entire site is a 500 response code. Without that line, only the subdomains error. What am I doing wrong, and how can I fix this? I have already configured the server so anything gets redirected to my public_html folder. EDIT: For clarification, I am trying to do an internal redirect, not external. EDIT: There is not a flag for internal redirect it seems. Is there any place I can see the actual error message for the broken rewriterule? If I knew what was wrong I would be able to stand a better chance of fixing it.

  • Cloning a selector + all its children in jQuery?

    - by HipHop-opatamus
    I'm having trouble getting the following JQuery script to function properly - its functionality is as follows: 1) Hide the content below each headline 2) Upon clicking a headline, substitute the "#first-post" with the headline + the hidden content below the headline. I can only seem to get the script to clone the headline itself to #first-post, not the headline + the content beneath it. Any idea why? <HTML> <HEAD> <script src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-latest.js"></script> </HEAD> <script> $(document).ready( function(){ $('.title').siblings().hide(); $('.title').click( function() { $('#first-post').replaceWith($(this).closest(".comment").clone().attr('id','first-post')); $('html, body').animate({scrollTop:0}, 'fast'); return false; }); }); </script> <BODY> <div id="first-post"> <div class="content"><p>This is a test discussion topic</p> </div> </div> <div class="comment"> <h2 class="title"><a href="#1">1st Post</a></h2> <div class="content"> <p>this is 1st reply to the original post</p> </div> <div class="test">1st post second line</div> </div> <div class="comment"> <h2 class="title"><a href="#2">2nd Post</a></h2> <div class="content"> <p>this is 2nd reply to the original post</p> </div> <div class="test">2nd post second line</div> </div> </div> <div class="comment"> <h2 class="title"><a href="#3">3rd Post</a></h2> <div class="content"> <p>this is 3rd reply to the original post</p> </div> <div class="test">3rd post second line</div> </div> </div> </BODY> </HTML>

  • Bash or python for changing spacing in files

    - by Werner
    Hi, I have a set of 10000 files. In all of them, the second line, looks like: AAA 3.429 3.84 so there is just one space (requirement) between AAA and the two other columns. The rest of lines on each file are completely different and correspond to 10 columns of numbers. Randomly, in around 20% of the files, and due to some errors, one gets BBB 3.429 3.84 so now there are two spaces between the first and second column. This is a big error so I need to fix it, changing from 2 to 1 space in the files where the error takes place. The first approach I thought of was to write a bash script that for each file reads the 3 values of the second line and then prints them with just one space, doing it for all the files. I wonder what do oyu think about this approach and if you could suggest something better, bashm python or someother approach. Thanks

  • Starting Frame-By-Frame Animation

    - by OceanBlue
    Hi, I have a basic question about starting a frame-by-frame animation. When I call the AnimationDrawable.start() method from my code directly, it doesn't seem to work. public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { ... mAnimation.start(); ... } But if I put this line inside the onClick() callback method of a button, pressing the buton starts the animation. Why doesn't this line work in the code? Thanks!

  • Force NCover 1.5.8 to use v4 framework like testdriven.net does?

    - by Sam Holder
    I want to run coverage from the command line, but can't seem to get NCover 1.5.8 to instrument the code. It must be possible as when I run coverage tests with TestDriven.net it works. the difference seems to be that TD.NET is able to get NCover to use framework 4.0 (you get this in the log when it runs : MESSAGE: v4.0.30319) but from the command line I can't make it (I get this in the log : MESSAGE: v2.0.50727) So how can I make NCover play nice with nunit from the commandline, like it does with TD.NET?

  • Asp.net error object not set to a reference

    - by Frank
    Hi all, Because I rush in development (a lot of whip cracking here) and declare my objects at the top of the function and instantiate inside my try-catch block, I get a lot of the good old "object not set to an instance of an object" errors while doing TDD, and later if I do miss a branch that object was used in (doing VB now, would prefer C#) or just in every day coding, object not set to an instance of an object is a bit vague. Sure the stack trace sends me to the line the error occured at, but it would be nice if I could modify my logging to either name the object or its type because sometimes I have multiple objects on the same line. It's not the end of the world, but in the end it would save me a few minutes each day. Any ideas on how I can pass the info on which object wasn't set? Thanks

  • Automatically Word-Wrapping Text To A Print Page?

    - by sooprise
    I have some code that prints a string, but if the string is say: "Blah blah blah"... and there are no line breaks, the text occupies a single line. I would like to be able to shape the string so it word wraps to the dimensions of the paper. private void PrintIt(){ PrintDocument document = new PrintDocument(); document.PrintPage += (sender, e) => Document_PrintText(e, inputString); document.Print(); } static private void Document_PrintText(PrintPageEventArgs e, string inputString) { e.Graphics.DrawString(inputString, new Font("Courier New", 12), Brushes.Black, 0, 0); } I suppose I could figure out the length of a character, and wrap the text manually, but if there is a built in way to do this, I'd rather do that. Thanks!

  • Leak caused by fread

    - by Jack
    I'm profiling code of a game I wrote and I'm wondering how it is possible that the following snippet causes an heap increase of 4kb (I'm profiling with Heapshot Analysis of Xcode) every time it is executed: u8 WorldManager::versionOfMap(FILE *file) { char magic[4]; u8 version; fread(magic, 4, 1, file); <-- this is the line fread(&version,1,1,file); fseek(file, 0, SEEK_SET); return version; } According to the profiler the highlighted line allocates 4.00Kb of memory with a malloc every time the function is called, memory which is never released. This thing seems to happen with other calls to fread around the code, but this was the most eclatant one. Is there anything trivial I'm missing? Is it something internal I shouldn't care about? Just as a note: I'm profiling it on an iPhone and it's compiled as release (-O2).

  • How do you move the pointer up or down multiple lines with Emacs?

    - by Peter
    I can move my pointer up and down one line with my arrow key just fine in Emacs, so I'd like to redefine C-n and C-p to move up and down 5 lines at a time. I'm just beginning to learn how to use Emacs, and elisp is very alien to me. I tried using the GNU Emacs lisp reference, but I couldn't find how to bind a keystroke to multiple commands. Here's what I have so far (concentrating on the moving up definition): (global-set-key "\C-p" '(loop for i in '(1 2 3 4 5) do ('previous-line))) But, this brings up an error message when I hit C-p, "Wrong type argument." Any suggestions? Thanks!

  • Unable to get data from a WCF client

    - by Scott
    I am developing a DLL that will provide sychronized time stamps to multiple applications running on the same machine. The timestamps are altered in a thread that uses a high performance timer and a scalar to provide the appearance of moving faster than real-time. For obvious reasons I want only 1 instance of this time library, and I thought I could use WCF for the other processes to connect to this and poll for timestamps whenever they want. When I connect however I never get a valid time stamp, just an empty DateTime. I should point out that the library does work. The original implementation was a single DLL that each application incorporated and each one was synced using windows messages. I'm fairly sure it has something to do with how I'm setting up the WCF stuff, to which I am still pretty new. Here are the contract definitions: public interface ITimerCallbacks { [OperationContract(IsOneWay = true)] void TimerElapsed(String id); } [ServiceContract(SessionMode = SessionMode.Required, CallbackContract = typeof(ITimerCallbacks))] public interface ISimTime { [OperationContract] DateTime GetTime(); } Here is my class definition: [ServiceBehavior(InstanceContextMode = InstanceContextMode.Single)] public class SimTimeServer: ISimTime The host setup: // set up WCF interprocess comms host = new ServiceHost(typeof(SimTimeServer), new Uri[] { new Uri("net.pipe://localhost") }); host.AddServiceEndpoint(typeof(ISimTime), new NetNamedPipeBinding(), "SimTime"); host.Open(); and the implementation of the interface function server-side: public DateTime GetTime() { if (ThreadMutex.WaitOne(20)) { RetTime = CurrentTime; ThreadMutex.ReleaseMutex(); } return RetTime; } Lastly the client-side implementation: Callbacks myCallbacks = new Callbacks(); DuplexChannelFactory pipeFactory = new DuplexChannelFactory(myCallbacks, new NetNamedPipeBinding(), new EndpointAddress("net.pipe://localhost/SimTime")); ISimTime pipeProxy = pipeFactory.CreateChannel(); while (true) { string str = Console.ReadLine(); if (str.ToLower().Contains("get")) Console.WriteLine(pipeProxy.GetTime().ToString()); else if (str.ToLower().Contains("exit")) break; }

  • getting java.lang.OutOfMemoryError exception while running a Midlet (using netbeans)

    - by Jeeka
    I am writing a Midlet(using Netbeans) which reads a file containing exactly 2400 lines (each line being 32 characters long) and (extract a part of each line) puts them in an array. I am doing the same for 11 such files( all files have exactly 2400 lines).The Midlet runs fine for reading 6 files and putting them in 6 arrays. However, the Midlet stops while doing it for the 7th file throwing the following exception: TRACE: , startApp threw an Exception java.lang.OutOfMemoryError (stack trace incomplete) java.lang.OutOfMemoryError (stack trace incomplete) I have tried the modifying the netbeans.conf file to increase the heap memory ( as suggested by many forums and blogs) but nothing works for me. Here are the parameters that i had modified in the netbeans.conf file: -J-Xss2m -J-Xms1024m -J-Xmx1024m -J-XX:PermSize=1024m -J-XX:MaxPermSize=1536m -J-XX:+UseConcMarkSweepGC -J-XX:+CMSClassUnloadingEnabled -J-XX:+CMSPermGenSweepingEnabled Can anyone please help me to get me out of this ! • Python - werid behavior

    - by orokusaki
    I've done what I shouldn't have done and written 4 modules (6 hours or so) without running any tests along the way. I have a method inside of /mydir/__init__.py called get_hash(), and a class inside of /mydir/utils.py called SpamClass. /mydir/utils.py imports get_hash() from /mydir/__init__. /mydir/__init__.py imports SpamClass from /mydir/utils.py. Both the class and the method work fine on their own but for some reason if I try to import /mydir/, I get an import error saying "Cannot import name get_hash" from /mydir/__init__.py. The only stack trace is the line saying that __init__.py imported SpamClass. The next line is where the error occurs in in SpamClass when trying to import get_hash. Why is this?

  • Using SMO to call Database.ExecuteNonQuery() concurrently?

    - by JimDaniel
    I have been banging my head against the wall trying to figure out how I can run update scripts concurrently against multiple databases in a single SQL Server instance using SMO. Our environments have an ever-increasing number of databases which need updating, and iterating through one at a time is becoming a problem (too slow). From what I understand SMO does not support concurrent operations, and my tests have bore that out. There seems to be shared memory at the Server object level, for things like DataReader context, keeps throwing exceptions such as "reader is already open." I apologize for not having the exact exceptions I am getting. I will try to get them and update this post. I am no expert on SMO and just feeling my way through to be honest. Not really sure I am approaching it the right way, but it's something that has to be done, or our productivity will slow to a crawl. So how would you guys do something like this? Am I using the wrong technology with SMO? All I am wanting to do is execute sql scripts against databases in a single sql server instance in parallel. Thanks for any help you can give, Daniel
