• Am I unhireable?

  I've received my B.S. in Software Engineering in August 2010 and I've been looking for a job since. I've gotten two interviews since that went up to the technical phone interview and then they were no longer interested. One of the recruiters mentioned to me that they thought my fundamentals weren't strong enough. What do I need to brush up on in order to get past the technical phone interview. My language of most experience is C#. I know Object Oriented Programming. I know what the difference between an interface and an abstract class is. I've applied to positions from game programming to WPF/Silverlight. I have a portfolio website www.samarmstrong.me. It also has my resume on there. I never had real internship. Am I unhireable?

• Torchlight is missing some textures

  I am using a Radon HD6850 and just bought the indi bundle. Torchlight is missing all face textures (and face textures only). I have had problems with shaders before (graphic would be displayed as black), but what I am seeing now is a simple removal of the texture, I can see through the head. The fps is fine on full graphics so it doesn't seem to be too much of a driver issue (I am using the drivers that came with ubuntu). I downloaded the game through the USC. Has anyone had this issue and managed to fix it? Running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

• Unable to Install ubuntu onto a blank hard drive

  I just built a pc and I am trying to install Ubuntu 14 onto it. I did the process in which you format the flash drive to be able to have Ubuntu 14 and install directly in BIOS. BIOS is set up to boot from the flash drive. Every time I try to do the install process, it will randomly reboot itself onto the motherboard BIOS menu. This loop constantly occurs and the only way I can use Ubuntu is to put the option of trying but not installing. HELP!

• Is there a name for a mini class that is not a struct?

  I have a couple of mini-classes that are not nested classes. They need to be passed around between different larger classes to use. In a way, they act like Tuples, storing fields in them. For example, [Serializable] public class TransformObject { public GameObject GameObj; public tk2dCameraAnchor Anchor; public ManagerTransform MTransform; } I have a few of them for my game I have been developing. They have to be classes, not struct because the Unity3d editor will not show in the inspector if so. I was just wondering if there is a official name for these kind of mini classes.

• HTML5 / Native / C# & Mono [closed]

  My apologies for the subjective nature of this question but I'm unsure as to which path to follow. I would like to do a bit of indie game development for the iPhone (nothing serious, just something I've wanted to pursue). At my university we aren't taught Java or Objective-C but C#/.NET and HTML5/JavaScript. Is it worth taking what I already know and try to accomplish my goal using, for example, C# and Mono or should I invest the time and learn Objective-C? I don't have a problem learning something new alongside my course (I love learning new stuff) and time isn't a factor. I'm slightly in favor of learning Objective-C for as it would be another string to my bow in the workplace, but it would be nice to stay with C# because it is what I'm used to.

  When I write code in Visual Studio, ReSharper (God bless it!) often suggests me to change my old-school for loop in the more compact foreach form. And often, when I accept this change, ReSharper goes a step forward, and suggests me to change it again, in a shiny LINQ form. So, I wonder: are there some real advantages, in these improvements? In pretty simple code execution, I cannot see any speed boost (obviously), but I can see the code becoming less and less readable... So I wonder: is it worth it?

• Wine not working in 12.04?

  I updated to Ubuntu 12.04 by doing a clean install from a CD. I installed Wine, Q4wine, WineTricks, PlayOnLinux all from the Software Center. After installing Kindle For PC(I ran it in 11.10 as well) Wine doesn't open it. Then I tried to install a game (Eastside Hockey Manager 2007) that I have had Installed on all my previous versions of Ubuntu, again Wine returned an error saying that the installer GUI would not load. So far I'm lost as to why this is happening. Does anyone have an idea?

  My name is Sael and I'm 14 years old. Since I was 12 and I got my first computer I instantly go interested in making games. So of course like any other I googled it, got discouraged and forgot about it for a few months. When I was 13 I decided to continue programming, and decided that java would best suit me. Now after a year, I have a basic understanding of java and how it works (it just clicked instantly one day). Anyways, my problem is that I know how I'm going to make a simple game in my head, but as soon as I click that "New Project" button on eclipse, I'm instantly lost and can't figure out where to start. I can't do much without a tutorial beside me since my mind is so dependent on it. • Can't join OS X Mavericks to AD Domain

  I'm attempting to join an OS X Mavericks (10.9) client to a Windows Server 2008 Active Directory domain, however the bind fails with this error in the OS X client's system.log: Oct 24 15:03:15 host.domain.com com.apple.preferences.users.remoteservice[5547]: -[ODCAddServerSheetController handleOtherActionError: gotError: Error Domain=com.apple.OpenDirectory Code=5202 "Authentication server encountered an error while attempting the requested operation." I've joined (bound) Ubuntu Linux clients to the same domain with net ads join in the past with no problems (using the same administrative user). I don't have access to any server logs. This is what I think is going on: The OS X client sends a kerberos request. The KDC says, "You need to pre-authenticate. Try again" The OS X client tries to pre-authenticate (all this so far is over UDP) Something gets lost on our network and the KDC says, "Oops something went wrong" The OS X client switches to TCP and tries again. Over TCP, the KDC says, "You're using an encryption type I don't support" Note that in its padata records, the OS X client is always using "aes256-cts-hmac-sha1-96" as its encryption type. However, in its KDC_REQ_BODY record it lists the aes256-cts-hmac-sha1-96, aes128-cts-hmac-sha1-96, des3-cbc-sha1, and rc4-hmac encryption types. When the KDC comes back with KDC_ERR_ETYPE_NOSUPP, it uses rc4-hmac as its encryption type in its padata record. I know next to nothing about Kerberos, but it seems to me that the OS X client should go ahead and try the rc4-hmac encryption type. However, it does nothing after this. If I do the same search for the Linux and Windows PCs I added previously, I can find them.

• Creating an Objective-C++ Static Library in Xcode

  So I've developed an engine for the iPhone with which I'd like to build a couple different games. Rather than copy and paste the files for the engine inside of each game's project directory, I'd a way to link to the engine from each game, so if I need to make a change to it I only have to do so once. After reeding around a little bit, it seems like static libraries are the best way to do this on the iPhone. I created a new project called Skeleton and copied all of my engine files over to it. I used this guide to create a static library, and I imported the library into a project called Chooser. However, when I tried to compile the project, Xcode started complaining about some C++ data structures I included in a file called ControlScene.mm. However most videos on youtube just show the tilt feature that is somehow inverted and forget to include the calibration. I want the user to calibrate their device to whatever position they're in. If retrieving the album cover fails for some reason the object is filled with a default image and then added. The last line of the code is what's showing up in the crash log.   Hi all- I'm getting some really bizarre stuff while trying to merge multiple data frames. Help! I need to merge a bunch of data frames by the columns 'RID' and 'VISCODE'. The really weird thing is that using this works: dataList = list(demog[1:50,], neurobat[1:50,], apoe[1:50,], mmse[1:50,], faq[1:47, ]) And using this fails: dataList = list(demog[1:50,], neurobat[1:50,], apoe[1:50,], mmse[1:50,], faq[1:48, ]) As far as I can tell, there is nothing special about row 48 of faq. Likewise, using this works: dataList = list(demog[1:50,], neurobat[1:50,], apoe[1:50,], mmse[1:50,], pdx[1:47, ]) And using this fails: dataList = list(demog[1:50,], neurobat[1:50,], apoe[1:50,], mmse[1:50,], pdx[1:48, ]) Row 48 in faq and row 48 in pdx have the same values for RID and VISCODE, the same value for EXAMDATE (something I'm not matching on) and different values for ID (another thing I'm not matching on). Besides the matching RID and VISCODE, I see anything special about them. They don't share any other variable names. This same scenario occurs elsewhere in the data without problems. To add icing on the complication cake, this doesn't even work: dataList = list(demog[1:50,], neurobat[1:50,], apoe[1:50,], mmse[1:50,], faq[1:48, 2:3]) where columns 2 and 3 are "RID" and "VISCODE". 48 isn't even the magic number because this works: dataList = list(demog[1:500,], neurobat[1:500,], apoe[1:500,], mmse[1:457,]) while using mmse[1:458, ] fails. I can't seem to come up with test data that causes the problem. Has anyone had this problem before? Any better ideas on how to merge? Thanks for your help! Jasmine
