• Form input validation with JAX-RS

  I want to use JAX-RS REST services as a back-end for a web application used directly by humans with browsers. Since humans make mistakes from time to time I want to validate the form input and redisplay the form with validation message, if something wrong was entered. By default JAX-RS sends a 400 or 404 status code if not all or wrong values were send. Say for example the user entered a "xyz" in the form field "count": @POST public void create(@FormParam("count") int count) { ... } JAX-RS could not convert "xyz" to int and returns "400 Bad Request". How can I tell the user that he entered an illegal value into the field "count"? Is there something more convenient than using Strings everywhere and perform conversation by hand?

• C# 2008 Express v C# 2010 Express

  Can anybody post a link to a comparison chart, or even to a duplicated question here on SO, for these two products? Plenty of info on what is missing between Express and Pro for example, but I'm struggling to find much on Express v Express. Is the only real difference the ability to develop apps for .NET 4.0? I'm developing WinForms apps, targetting .NET 2.0 at the moment, so are there any benefits for me in changing to 2010 Express? Unfortunately, upgrading to VS Professional or such is not an option for me right now, so I'm stuck with the hamstrung versions. Thanks.

• jQuery Star Rating plugin - select in callback causes infinite loop

  Using the jQuery Star Rating plugin everything works well until I select a star rating from the rating's callback handler. Simple example: $('.rating').rating({ ... callback: function(value){ $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: ... data: {rating: value}, success: function(data){ $('.rating').rating('select', 1); } }); } }); I'm guessing this infinite loop occurs because the callback is fired after a manual 'select' as well. Once a user submits their rating I'd like to 'select' the average rating across all users (this value is in data returned to the success handler). How can I do this without triggering an infinite loop?

• Viewing large text file in a browser

  Hi, I need to write a text file viewer (not the directory tree, but the actual file contents) for use in a browser. It will be used to view large files. I want to give the user the ability to actually ummm, browse the file, ie prev page & next page buttons, while each page will show only a portion of the file. Two question: Is there anyway to pass the file descriptor through POST (or something) so that on each page I can keep reading from an already open file, and not starting all over again (again - huge files) Is there a way to read the file backwards? Will be very useful for browsing back in a file. Any other implementation ideas are very welcome. Thanks

• Generating a Call Hierarchy for dynamicly invoked method

  Hello, Today's world of dynamic invoke, reflection and runtime injection just doesn't play well with traditional tools such as ctags, doxygen and CDOC. I am searching for a method call hierarchy visualization tool that can display both static and dynamic method invocations. It should be easy to use, light during execution and provide helpful detailed information about the recorded runtime session. Now I guess Callgrind could be considered a valid solution for the family C. What tool / technique could you suggest to create a call graph for both static and dynamic method invocation for JVM based bytecode? The intended end result is a graphical display (preferably interactive) which can show path from main() to each method that was invoked. During research for this post I stumbled upon javashot, it seems that this is the kind of approach I'm aiming at, I would prefer that this would be integrated into a kind of profiler or alike which than can be used from within my IDE (Eclipse, IntelliJ, Netbeans and alike). • Jquery droppable live disabling/enabling

  I have a some draggables in a list of droppables (1 draggable per droppable li). When I move a draggable from one droppable to another free droppable, I want to diable the receiving droppable, and enable the droppable it is leaving from. In firebug the droppable class gets removed – but the functionality of the droppable remains.   In this post, asynchronous .js file loading syntax, someone said, "If the async attribute is present, then the script will be executed asynchronously, as soon as it is available." • Install a vimball from the command line.

  As this post points out you can install Vimballs using the normal: vim somevimball.vba :so % :q But if you want to install a from the command line how do you do it? I ran a 'man vim' and it seems like the best "from source install" option was the '-S' option so I tried to install haskellmode with it: wget 'http://projects.haskell.org/haskellmode-vim/vimfiles/haskellmode-20090430.vba' vim -S haskellmode-20090430.vba and that failed to work. It gave me the following error: Error detected while processing function vimball#Vimball: line 10: (Vimball) The current file does not appear to be a Vimball! press ENTER or type command to continue It should be noted that using the first method I was able to successfully install the vimball. I have tried the second method on a few other vimballs and it has failed every time. Is there a way to install a vimball from the command line? It seems like a useful sort of task. Oh, and I am running the following version of vim: Version: 2:7.2.330-1ubuntu3 Thanks.

I was recently attacked with JS:Illredir-S [Trj], I asked my hosting providers to clean it and they cleaned it and updated all passwords, but now after a week my site got infected again with JS:ScriptIP-inf [Trj]. Can anyone please suggest me how to secure my website properly ? Should I change my hosting provider ? I am fed up of these viruses again and again on my websites. I can't even find this virus in my files. Please post informative answers. Thanks

• Why does IIS not support chunked transfer encoding?

  I am making an HTTP connection to an IIS web server and sending a POST request with the data encoded using Transfer-Encoding: chunked. When I do this, IIS simply closes the connection, with no error message or status code. According to the HTTP 1.1 spec, All HTTP/1.1 applications MUST be able to receive and decode the "chunked" transfer-coding so I don't understand why it's (a) not handling that encoding and (b) it's not sending back a status code. If I change the request to send the Content-Length rather than Transfer-Encoding, the query succeeds, but that's not always possible. When I try the same thing against Apache, I get a "411 Length required" status and a message saying "chunked Transfer-Encoding forbidden". Why do these servers not support this encoding?

• WYSIHAT Installation - not saving photos - Ruby on Rails

  I just successfully installed WysiHat in my rails blog. Seems that the 'add a picture' feature is not working. It successfully allows me to find and select a picture from my desktop but upon clicking save, it does nothing. I also have Paperclip successfully installed. I am wondering if this may have something to do with it. Perhaps Paperclip is getting in the way, or, perhaps I need to connect Paperclip and WysiHat somehow. Any ideas? (let me know if I need to post any code).

  geonames.org got a web api you can use to get all the hierarchy for a city. you just enter the id and you will get the data back in xml. http://ws.geonames.org/hierarchy?geonameId=2657896 i wonder how you fetch the url with php and javascript, and which one should i use. cause the id's are in the mysql database. i will get them with php. should i use file_get_contents, curl or fopen? and what function in javascript? jquery $.post? heard that it can only access localhost. would be great with some guidance here and even better with some code examples. thanks!

• Need to preserve order of elements sent in JSON from Java

  I'm using JSON.org APIs for Java to use JSON in my JSP webapp, I know JSONObject doesn't preserve order of elements the way they are put into it and one has to use JSONArray for that but I don't know how to use it since I need to send key and value both as received from the database, and here I'm sending data to jQuery via JSON where I need the order of data to be maintained. Following is my servlet code, where I'm getting results from the database using ORDER BY and hence I want the order to be exact as returned from the database. Also this JSON object requested using $.post method of jQuery and is used to populate dropdown on reciever page. • Problem with Japanese/International Characters with IIS7 URL Rewrite

  I have a friend with a Japanese blog, using wordpress, he has the pretty url. Basically domain.com/postname. Well an example of a url might be. "domain.com/???". His blog is hosted on an Apache web server. I am running IIS7 and am trying to get my Japanese blog going like it should, and have "domain.com/???" show just that one post when you visit that url. My thinking is it has something to do with url-encoding. I can't find too much information on utf-8 or anything about getting international characters to work in a url. Any help on this would be great. I am thinking I should change something in the web.config file, but not to sure. I haven't had a lot of experience with IIS7. Thanks.

  What options are there for producing audio in a GWT app? I'm thinking of making a simple game, but I'm disappointed to see that there's still not much progress on audio support directly in GWT (yes, I realize that's largely due to lack of underlying browser support; looking forward to HTML5!) This blog post says that "audio support in GWT is rapidly evolving", yet I don't see updates in over a year, at least not at that site. It seems these are the available options: GWT Voices GWT SoundManager GWT Sound GWT Incubator I believe most of these (all of them?) rely on Flash to produce audio. I'm most inclined to go with the GWT Incubator, as that's where features slated for inclusion in GWT get started, but I've no real recommendations to go on. I would appreciate hearing about your experiences with any of these libraries, thanks.

• 2 way synchronization of in-house gitosis repositories server with Github repositories

  We use gitosis as our local in-house shared repository and also have a private Github account that mirrors our local repository. If one does a git push to the in-house repository the post-update hook updates the Github repository. How can I make this two way without causing "loops"? I.e. if someone pushes to the Github repository, I would like it to also update the in-house gitosis repository. A pointer to an example of how to do it would be greatly appreciated. Or if there are recommendations of alternatives to gitosis that would make this kind of thing easy, I would consider migrating to that.

  I was just reading this excellent post, and got some better understanding of what exactly object oriented programming is, how Java implements it in one extreme manner, and how functional programming languages are a contrast. What I was thinking is this: if functional programming languages cannot save any state, how do they do some simple stuff like reading input from a user (I mean how do they "store" it), or storing any data for that matter?
