  Aspell version: $ aspell -v @(#) International Ispell Version 3.1.20 (but really Aspell 0.60.6) Dump dict yields no results: $ aspell dump dicts First noticed the problem when I did this, was originally working on web server, but someone updated something and it hasn't worked since: $ aspell check temp_test_file.txt Error: No word lists can be found for the language "en_US". What's the proper way of installing the required dictionaries? I believe we're running this on CentOS. And also, /usr/lib/aspell-0.60 does not contain the required dictionaries (provided that they're supposed to be saved there). data-dir: /usr/lib/aspell-0.60

• sql server 2008 snapshot agent problem

  Hi! I've just installed mssql 2008 sp1 x64 on windows 7 RTM, and have the problem with creating snapshots, whenever I try to launch the snapshot agent (i.e. to setup transactional replication publication), it throws the error that 'the file is missing'. I have looked into c:\program files\microsoft sql server\100\com and there are no executable files at all, like snapshot.exe! I tried a crazy move to copy all the files from my mssql 2005 com folder, without replacing ofcourse, and now it doesn't give an error, but says 'starting' all the time, but nothing happens. (Now I have removed those files again) I have all of the relevant features installed. So please help me figure out what to do now! Thanks! Dmitri.

• Asus G53SX How to use the recovery partition

  I am trying to use the recovery partition on my Asus G53SX laptop, but the instructions in the included booklet don't match up with what happens on the computer. It says press F9 during bootup and then press ENTER to select windows setup. Then select the language you want to recover, and so on. When I press F9 I end up in the boot manager and from there I can access safe mode and all these things. The closest thing I can find in this list is "Repair your computer" but this menu takes me to recovery points and backup images, none which are mentioned in the booklet. How can I use the recovery partition to restore my laptop to factory state?

• Auto-hide OS X menu bar?

  Is there a way to auto-hide the OS X menu bar, like is possible with the Dock? There was an application "Menufela" that did this for Tiger, but I'm not aware of anything similar for Leopard/Snow Leopard.. I'm almost certain this is (programatically) doable, because in full-screen applications the menu bar is hidden, and reappears when you mouse the mouse is at the top of the screen.. • KVM machine does not start ssh, network is started, used to work

  have been searching an pulling my hear out for the last 6 hours. I have a virtual machine that has been running fine for the last six months. I was happy ssh'ing into it and it was running a database and some small apps. Tonight ssh stopped working, so I decided to reboot the machine. I now have the following situation: virsh list --all states machine as running I can ping the machine and get a reply When I ssh to the machine I see "ssh: connect to host [myserver] port 22: Connection refused" nmap does not show port 22 as open I have tried to: - reboot the machine once more (no luck) - mount the filesystem and check /etc/ssh/sshd.conf (has not changed since working situation) - install virsh console, however this does not seem to work When I mount the fs directly using losetup the strange thing is that file dates seem to be frozen in /var/log/ around the time of the crash. If I look in /var/run/ I can see an sshd.pid, but the time is 6 hours ago (and numerous reboots).   For years I'm using some antivirus software and different firewall. Now every antiviruses have got some firewall features and there are complete "internet security" complexes... and every firewall get some antivirus functionality and there are "internet security" versions. Firstly, it is hard and sometimes impossible to install and use standalone AV and FW. Sometimes I can't avoid them (i can't install KAV2010 without removing Outpost firewall etc). Secondly, complex solutions have some disbalance. Farewall from famous antivirus-brand is so user-friendly that is not suitable for me (lack of details in Norton Internet Security for example) and antiviruses from famous firewall-brands are still weak, it is proved by tests. What is today best-practices in case of functionality and security?) Some internet-security complex or two standalone applications from different vendors?

• Proper network configuration for a KVM guest to be on the same networks at the host

  I am running a Debian Linux server on Lenny. Within it, I am running another Lenny instance using KVM. Both servers are externally available, with public IPs, as well as a second interface with private IPs for the LAN. Everything works fine, except the VM sees all network traffic as originating from the host server. I suspect this might have something to do with the iptables-based firewall I'm running on the host. What I'd like to figure out is: how to I properly configure the host's networking such that all of these requirements are met? Both host and VMs have 2 network interfaces (public and private). Both host and VMs can be independently firewalled. Ideally, VM traffic does not have to traverse the host firewall. VMs see real remote IP addresses, not the host's.   I have a small confusion about the differences between the 2 types of set ups: When deploying using Add Roles and Features the Wizard requests to choose from one of two Deployment Scenarios: Virtual machine-based desktop deployment : Virtual machine-based desktop deployment allows users to connect to virtual desktop collections that include published RemoteApp programs and virtual desktops. Session-based desktop deployment : Session-based desktop deployment allows users to connect to session collections that include published RemoteApp programs and session-based desktops. Although this seems intuitive now, if I continue with "Virtual machine-based desktop deployment" I later have another two options when creating a collection: Pooled virtual desktop collection Personal virtual desktop collection This is where my confusion lies. What is the differences between a Session-based deployment and Virtual machine-based deployment with Personal virtual desktop collections? I'm mostly finding information pertaining to Windows Server 2008 but I know there are some core improvements in VDI 2012 so would someone please comment on that. Thank you

• Looking for FTP server that allows user management from database

  I'm planning a server application that will handle files uploaded via FTP. The application must parse text documents that it receives and write them to a database (most likely a document-oriented database like Mongo). And the application must also relay all large binary files it receives to Amazon S3 for storage and hosting. I'd like to manage all aspects of the FTP server programmatically. For example, when a user registers via a web page the application should be able to create the user account in the database and provision a directory on the server for receiving files. I'm using a Linux server but am otherwise open to considering any programming language or framework. I experimented with VSFTPD but didn't like the way the application relies on config files and the creation of users and directories via the command line. Can someone please recommend what server framework I should consider? I'm a little biased toward solutions that leverage Javascript/Nodejs or Python. However, I'm open to anything that can run on a Linux box.

• unable to install new versions of linux on my PC

  I have an MSI-RC410 motherboard with onboard ATI Radeon XPress 200 series Graphics card. I have used OpenSuse-11.0 on my PC for over an year. but when I tried to upgrade to OpenSuse-11.1, I managed to install it only to find that several features were missing. for example /dev/cdrom was missing. Also install DVD of Fedora 11 did not work. I have also tried Ubuntu-9.10 live cd. When I boot from the CD i get the initramfs command prompt. Still able to install old versions of these OSs. What is the reason for this behavior? Does it have to do anything with the new version of the linux kernel not being compatible with my hardware? What should i do to install new versions of Linux?

• International Dvorak keyboard doesn't trigger hot-keys

  Hi, I just configured a Hebrew-Dvorak keyboard with Keyboard Layout Manager. What this means is that when I hold Shift+any key, the input is the capital English letter. It works just fine, however, hot-keys that involves the Ctrl key aren't being triggered when the input language is set to Hebrew (i.e Ctrl+L in FF which should set the focus on the URL bar) If however I hit the matching Qwerty key (input lang=Hebrew) I get the desirable result (i.e the URL bar get focused). The only thing I can think of is completely removing the US-Qwerty layout, but I don't know how this can be achieved, and besides, it may not solve the problem. Thanks, Almog.

• Monitoring HP and Dell hardware in Gentoo.

  I'm working in an environment that features a large number of Gentoo servers running on HP ProLiant and Dell PowerEdge equipment. While I've moved some of these systems to RedHat or CentOS for consistency, I'm still left with a good number of systems that will remain Gentoo. One of the issues I see with the Gentoo arrangement is lack of vendor-supported hardware monitoring. There doesn't seem to be an equivalent to the HP ProLiant Support Pack or Dell's agents for Gentoo. Is this simply something that you give up when using this distribution? How do you monitor hardware health and the like with Gentoo systems?

• Alternative, more efficient scraping method for a noncoder, than Google doc's importxml and xpath?

  I've searched throughout the net for a simple solution, but it seems everyone has their own unique method (coding language) of achieving this. I'm only just beginning to learn Linux, and my coding skills are thoroughly lacking (non-existent). I love the simplicity of using importxml and xpath, but copying and pasting values after reaching the spreadsheet limit of 50 is getting old. Now that I've seen the light, I would really just like to know of a simple, yet scalable solution to get more data into more spreadsheets/databases. Before I really start getting my hands dirty, I would love to know some of the ways you guys go about accomplishing this?

  Howdy, Anyone with experience on using both control panels can tell me which one is better suited to run on a windows shared hosting account? I have the option of choosing one of them for my shared hosting account. The web hosting guys (MochaHost) say that DotNetPanel (DNP) is better than Plesk (more features, newer architecture, faster), but looking at the DNP interface I honestly can't say that I agree with them. The big advantage of DNP over Plesk for me is the fact that I can only run .Net 4.0 using DNP (Plesk doesn't support .Net 4.0 yet, as the tech support told me). Thanks

• What are good replacements for Microsoft Visio 2003?

  I have been using Visio 2003 on Windows XP for generation of UML diagrams. I have encountered following problems so far: There is no way to generate/print the documentation written for class attributes/methods. No automatic code generation is supported I have already generated lot of diagrams and i discovered above problems at much later stage. Now i would like to overcome above by choosing another tool which is compatible with Visio file(.vsd) which saves time or redrawing all diagrams and also provides above features. Could you kindly suggest an alternative (visio compatible) tool ? (I have looked at a similar SU-question, but it does not suggest tools which provide solution to above problems. I am open to free as well as licensed tools, with priority to free :) ) Thanks, James

  I am using Apache as web server and the return code is always HTTP/1.1 200. I want to set some kind of handler or use a mod to return HTTP/1.1 206 when the extension of the file requested is .mp4 so it can do video seeking, my web server is already returning some headers to do seeking, but it doesn't work. • How to remap CAPSLOCK to ESC in Linux Mint 12

  I would like to remap the CAPSLOCK key to ESC as this is easier to use in Vim. I can make it in Ubuntu 11.04 as there's an option for this in Keyborad configuration. But recently I switched to use Linux Mint and found that there's no such option. I don't know whether it is the gnome3 that makes this happen, as there are only some basic features to customize. • Similar alternatives to Delicious that do not require Yahoo! account

  I love using Delicious and share the same PC as my girlfriend. When my she logs into her Yahoo! email account, I need to log out of my Delicious account because its tied to my Yahoo! login. So because of that, I can't use Delicious as a social bookmarking service. I love all its features and need an alternative that also uses Firefox addon integration and tagging. I've tried diigo.com but tagging is annoying. You can store your URL under your own tags but you don't have a clear way to later browse your tags in the Firefox addon. (The delicious approach is way much better and simple). Any suggestion of any service?

• Can Acrobat 11 be made to do OCR using multiple CPU cores?

  OCR processing takes time. Using multiple CPU cores would speed up processing. Acrobat 10 was not a multithreaded application. How about Acrobat 11? Does 11 by default do OCR using multiple CPU cores (if available)? If not, are there any workarounds, e.g. scripting, to help make Acrobat 11 do OCR using multiple CPU cores? Either through Acrobat's built in scripting language or using external scripts that launch and direct multiple single thread instances of Acrobat to in parallell to parts of the processing job. Note: This question is not too localized (not limited to a specific moment in time) because (1) Adobe does not release new major Acrobat versions very often (Acrobat 10 was released two years ago) and (2) Adobe Acrobat is a widely used application.

• Attempting to migrate to Aptana from Dreamweaver - how to?

  I have been using Dreamweaver for years, and have used Dreamweaver MX, Dreamweaver MX 2004, Dreamweaver 8 & Dreamweaver CS4. They all carry a common theme and were relatively easy to migrate to each other. I use, however, very few features of dreamweaver. Specifically: Syntax highlighting Telesense FTP management/site management The search/replace The idea I get from Aptana is its much more geared toward the web development/programmer side of things, have better visualizations of classes, etc., and handle everything else just as well. The problem is it is not at all clear to me. I managed to start a new project, but it didn't associate it with an FTP. So, I created an FTP, and it looks like I can have many FTPs for one project. My question then is, is there a tutorial or guide to migrating to Aptana from a Dreamweavor's perspective?

I just want me and my wife to be able to post to it and then share with grandparents and friends. I'm at the start so I would like a platform (blogger, wordpress, ...) that has these features and that also allows export of the data (if one day I want to migrate to a different platform). I've been trying out blogger which allows you to have a private blog. But when I upload images they get stored in a hard to guess URL but are otherwise public. Are there better options to this? For videos I think I am happy with embedding Vimeo videos since they ask for a password to be viewed but I am open to suggestions.

• Make Chrome's Omnibar behave more like the Firefox AwesomeBar

  One of my favorite features of the Firefox AwesomeBar is that I can simply type a substring of any URL or page title in my history and it finds all matches sorted by how frequently they were accessed. Example: I simply type "ask" when I want to ask something on stackoverflow.com., "inbox" goes to my GMail Inbox and so on because the substring matches any part of the URL or the page title. Chrome's Omnibar is quite frustrating in this area. I am not able to predict what it's gonna fetch and I seem to have no way to train the thing to do my bidding. I have unchecked the option that says: "Use a suggestion service to help complete searches and URLs typed..." but there has been no noticeable improvement. Any clues how I can make the Omnibar behave?

• Digital audio input on Macbook?

  I have: a Macbook (not Pro), don't know the exact model but it's a Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz and probably what Wikipedia calls the "Late 2006" or "Mid 2007" model a DVD player, region-free, that has "Coax and TosLink optical digital audio outputs" I want to make an MP3 of the audio track of some DVDs (for learning a new language), and I can't use the Macbook's built-in DVD drive because it's a different region (ugh!). I'm sure I can connect the DVD player to the Macbook with an analog audio cable. However, if it's possible I'd prefer to keep the signal digital. I'm not even positive if my old Macbook has digital audio in, and if so what I need to connect to it. (I've done plenty of home audio geeking, but always in analog!) Will a "Toslink cable" plus a "Toslink Female to Mini-Plug Male Adapter" (found on Amazon) let me connect my things together? It looks like the pieces will fit but I'd like to hear someone confidently knowledgeable on the matter before I buy something. Thanks!

• XP Mode in Windows 7 professional recently ceased to work

  I have used Windows XP Mode in Windows Professional 7 once a week for around 2 years to run Quicken 98. About 2 weeks ago the XP Mode completely stopped working. I get different responses when I try to launch. I can sometimes see a launch screen for XP (which I never used to get) which then hangs Sometimes I just get a black screen Sometimes I get an error message in a cmd like interface that says "windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt \system32\ntoskrnl.exe please reinstall a copy of the above file. I have noticed that in the tools tab at the top of the screen "enable integration features" is greyed out. Any recommendations? Ian
