• Is there an online tester for xPath selectors?

  I know there are some online regex evaluators.. very useful, matching in real time. They are like web applications of RegexBuddy. I was wondering if there is a similar thing for xPath selectors? I am just learning them and it would be valuable to me. Is there an online tester that allows you to input XML and then an xPath selector and match (live would be better, but I doubt someone has written a JavaScript interpreter?) them? Thanks

• Can I refresh a Yii CGridView from js?

  When a "Create" modal dialog is submitted via XHR Then the rows in a Yii CGridView should be refreshed. I've tried to achieve this by rendering the new gridview in the XHR "create" action and then inserting it into the page via $("#list").html(response), but rendering a CGridView causes jQuery <script> include tags to be registered for inclusion, and so when I introduce those tags into the page they reload jQuery, which wipes out my live event handlers, so a bunch of stuff breaks. Which has me thinking, "the GridView knows how to refresh itself. heck, it does all the time on sort or page." So I can click a sort button in the GridView from js, but thats less than Ideal. I'd prefer to say $("#list").gridview('reload') or $.fn.gridview.reload("#list") or some such sense. Or do the way cool thing that is soo much simpler that you thought of just now.

• can't get true height/width of object in chrome

  I have a question, if i set a image height in css and try to get height/width i get different results in different browsers. Is there a way to get the same dimension in all browsers?   Is there a jdbc driver for SQL Server that can search for database instances on network? Just wanting to emulate "OSQL -L" from the JDBC driver. Dont want to have to call OSQL from JNI or something. I also don't want to have to write my own code for scanning a UDP port. I want my Java application to be able to search for live SQL Servers and prompt me with a list of available servers. Isn't this a reasonable expectation for a JDBC driver? OSQL.exe can do it and so why not the JDBC driver?

  I'm trying to build a UI using directdraw in c#. For this im using a DirectDrawWrapper as sugested here. My initial tests setting up the screen work perfectly. But now i'd like to incorporate gesture recognition into the UI. So i instantiate a GestureRecognizer and tie it to the _form which also gets passed to the DirectDrawGraphics constructor, form = new Form(); _form.show(); _graphics = new DirectDrawGraphics(_form, CooperativeFlags.Fullscreen, BackbufferMode.Any); gestureRecognizer = new GestureRecognizer(); gestureRecognizer.TargetControl = _form; Pasting the whole DirectDrawWrapper code might be a bit to much, so let me try to formulate a question. I guess directdraw talks directly to the video memory, as it should. But then my form wont receive any messages, thus any eventhandlers i'v tied op to the GestureRecognizer wont be fired. How can i still receive any messages from the touchscreen?

• Facebook Connect showPermissionDialog callback fires before user can even see the dialog

  I'm doing a Facebook Connect integration for a site and when the user logs in, I need to ask for some permissions so I use FB.Connect.showPermissionDialog. I use its callback to see if permissions were granted. If they are granted, I want to submit the form. Here's what my code looks like: $("#form3").live("submit", function() { FB.Connect.showPermissionDialog('email, offline_access', function(perms) { if (!perms) { location.href="http://www.mysite.com/logout/"; return false; } else { save_session(); } }); }); The problem is that the form submits before the user can even see the permission dialog. • Monotouch UIScrollView/UIPageView with UITableView as panel

  Hi I'm building an app which is a guide to festivals. In the app I show lineups. You can see the Ui I have built for this on the video here: http://wmcstar.com/download.html The problem I have is that the scrollview/UIPageView - which does the left/right scrolling through the days, sometimes conflicts (i think) with the up/down scrolling of the days lineup UITableView and crashes. It doesn't crash if I disable scrolling - so the only way to switch between days is by selecting the day and programatically scrolling to the day rather than by using touch gestures. Has anyone else seen this behaviour? w://

  I want to know what kind of technologies are used nowadays as underlying screen capture engine for remote administration software like VNC pcAnywhere TeamViewer RAC Remote Administrator etc.. The programming language is not so important as just to know whether a driver needs to be developed which is polling video memory 30 times per second or there are any com objects built in the Windows kernel to help doing this? I'm not interested in 3rd party components for doing this. Do I have to use DirectX facilities? Just want some start point to develop my own screen stream capture engine, which will be less CPU hog.

• Displaying webcam feed using opencv and python

  Hi ive been trying to create a simple program with python which utilises opencv to get a video feed from my webcam and display it on the screen.   I don't think this has been asked before on this site, but I might be wrong. Does anyone know the basics of how to get that whole effect with the iPad Photos app? Basically, pinching a stack of photos lets you have a "peek" at the photos in that stack, which expands based on the distance between your 2 fingers in the pinch, then fully completing the outwards pinch gesture opens the photos in the stack in a new view. See this video to get what I mean. I know of at least one third party app that uses the same method as the iPad Photo app, so I know it's possible to do. I'm guessing I would do something with UIPinchGestureRecognizer but I'm not sure exactly how to proceed.

• FileUtils.mv adding linebreaks in Windows

  I am streaming wav data from a flash application. If I get the data and do the following: f = File.open('c:/test.wav') f << wav_data.pack('c'*wav_data.length) f.close The wav file works perfectly. If I do this: f = Tempfile.new('test.wav') f << wav_data.pack('c'*wav_data.length) f.close FileUtils.mv(f.path, 'c:/') The file is there, but sounds all garbled. Checking in a hex editor shows that everywhere the working file had an 0A (or \n), the garbled version had 0D0A (or \r\n) I am using this in conjuction with rails+paperclip, and am going to be using a combination of Heroku and S3 for the live app, so I am hoping this problem will solve itself, but I'd like to get this working on my local machine for the time being. Does anybody know of any reason FileUtils.mv would be doing this, and if there is a way to change its behaviour?

• Django development targeting both the Google App Engine and Py2Exe

  I must hand in a mostly static database-driven website on a topic on my choice by the end of June as both a hosted version live on the internet and a stored version on a cd-rom. "Ease of launching" is one of the bulletpoints for evaluation of the project. (Yeah, I know.) I and my project mate are currently comparing various frameworks and technologies to help us deliver and deploy this as quickly and painlessly as possible. Theoretically, by using Django, I can target the Google App Engine (which I guess would provide us reliable, free-as-in-beer hosting) or the Py2Exe system + SQLLite (which I guess would make starting the website server from disk as hard as doubleclicking on an .exe file). Sounds better than what PHP and MySQL can ever hope to bring me, right? However, we need to target both Py2Exe and the GAE. How much of the differencies between these wildly different configurations are hidden by Django? What will instead require special attention and possibly specialized code on my end?

• Computing orientation of a square and displaying an object with the same orientation

  Hi, I wrote an application which detects a square within an image. To give you a good understanding of how such an image containing such a square, in this case a marker, could look like: What I get, after the detection, are the coordinates of the four corners of my marker. Now I don't know how to display an object on my marker. The object should have the same rotation/angle/direction as the marker. Are there any papers on how to achieve that, any algorithms that I can use that proofed to be pretty solid/working? It doesn't need to be a working solution, it could be a simple description on how to achieve that or something similar. If you point me at a library or something, it should work under linux, windows is not needed but would be great in case I need to port the application at some point. I already looked at the ARToolkit but they you camera parameter files and more complex matrices while I only got the four corner points and a single image instead of a whole video / camera stream.

• What should I use for the .SWF path in FlowPlayer's configuration if I'm developing from my desktop?

  I'm having an extremely difficulty time getting the flowplayer to show up and the worst part is I have no idea what is wrong because I'm not getting any error messages! I have an external javascript file: C:/desktop/mysite/js/jq/plugins.js calling $f() from: C:/desktop/mysite/thirdparty/flowplayer/flowplayer.js the swf files also live there... • Debug.WriteLine not working

  In the past, perhaps versions of Visual Studio prior to the 2008 that I am using now, I would do something like this in my VB.NET code: System.Diagnostics.Debug.WriteLine("Message") ..and the output would go to the output window. Now it doesn't. Something must first apparently be enabled. If this involves "attaching a debugger", please explain how to do it. It seems to me that it should just work without too much of a fuss. • Android: videocamera, limit length of videos taken

  I'm working in Android and starting the video camera activity using ACTION_VIDEO_CAPTURE. Is there any way I can limit the length (in time) of the videos the user can take? I think this is possible if you use MediaRecorder, but I don't really fancy doing that since it's so much more complicated than using the simple ACTION_VIDEO_CAPTURE. Current code: Intent videoCaptureIntent = new Intent(MediaStore.ACTION_VIDEO_CAPTURE); startActivityForResult(videoCaptureIntent,1); If it's not possible, does anyone know whether I could set a timer (TimerTask?) in Java and then show a Toast message after a certain length of time warning the user that they need to stop filming? (I'm a Java newbie, so I don't know if this is exactly what I need.)

• Setting up nHibernate with an Oracle database and Visual Studio 2010

  I'm creating a .ASPNET project and I would like to setup nHibernate as my ORM tool. I will be using an existing oracle database and Visual Studio 2010. ORM tools are very new to me and really could use any advice to better understand the tool and the process required to implement them. I've been following an article at http://nhforge.org/wikis/howtonh/your-first-nhibernate-based-application.aspx to learn about it and am stuck where they say to create a local database as mine only give me the option to create a SQL server database (perhaps this a new for visual studio 2010?). Is the purpose of this database just to cache results from the live database? Thanks for your help! Geoff

• synchronizing audio over a network

  I'm in startup of designing a client/server audio system which can stream audio arbitrarily over a network. One central server pumps out an audio stream and x number of clients receives the audio data and plays it. So far no magic needed and I have even got this scenario to work with VLC media player out of the box. However, the tricky part seems to be synchronizing the audio playback so that all clients are in audible synch (actual latency can be allowed as long as it is perceived to be in sync by a human listener). My question is if there's any known method or algorithm to use for these types of synchronization problems (video is probably solved the same way). My own initial thoughts centers around synchronizing clocks between physical machines and thereby creating a virtual "main timer" and somehow aligning audio data packets against it. • How do you: Symfony functional test on a secure app?

  Im trying to perform some function tests in symfony 1.4. My application is secure so the tests return 401 response codes not 200 as expected. I've tried creating a context and authentication the user prior to performing the test but to no avail. Any suggestions? Do I need to pass sfContext to the sfTestFunctional? Actually, I not even sure if that is what I should call it. I live in China and I want to access youtube and stuff.
