  • Is it possible to customize @synthesized properties?

    - by Dan K.
    I'm probably just being a bit lazy here, but bear with me. Here's my situation. I have a class with two nonatomic, retained properties. Let's say: @property (nonatomic, retain) UITextField *dateField; @property (nonatomic, retain) NSDate *date; I synthesize them as expected in the implementation. What I want to happen is that whenever the setter on date is invoked, it also does something to the dateField (i.e. it sets the text property on the dateField to be a nicely formatted version of the date). I realize I can just manually override the setter for date in my implementation by doing the following: - (void) setDate:(NSDate *)newDate { if (date != newDate) { [date release]; date = [newDate retain]; // my code to touch the dateField goes here } } What would be awesome is if I could let Objective C handle the retain/release cycle, but still be able to "register" (for lack of a better term) a custom handler that would be invoked after the retain/release/set happens. My guess is that isn't possible. My google-fu didn't come up with any answer to this, though, so I thought I'd ask.

  • Memory usage does not drop -- no leaks though

    - by climbon
    I have UINavigationController controlling several views. One of the views is composed of 20 scrollable pages. Each page is a constructed on the fly from UIViews by adding buttons, labels, UIImageViews etc. When this UIView is popped off the stack, the memory usage remains the same. Hence it keeps rising if I keep pushing/popping that view. In my dealloc, I am traversing through all 20 pages and finding each type of object which got added via addSubview and then do a release on it but instruments says my memory usage never goes down! I am trying to use 'retainCount' to see what is up with objects I am releasing but I am perhaps not getting true picture via retainCount. For some elements retainCount shows 2 so I try to release that object twice but then app crashes. If I release it once it works but memory usage never go down :( Q1: Do I need to traverse find each element and then do a release on that element ? Why can't I release a parent object and all objects contained by it would get released automatically ? Q2: Is retainCount a reliable indicator ?

  • Format Text Field While User Enters Data

    - by Matt
    Hello, so here is what I am trying to do. I have a birth date text field, while the user in puts text i want the field to automatically put it in the form YYYY-MM-DD. Basically while the user types it replaces the Y's M's and D's but leaves the hyphen. I am not sure how to go about this i may need a mask or something. I know this is where some of the formatting can be done - (BOOL)textField:(UITextField *)textField shouldChangeCharactersInRange:(NSRange)range replacementString:(NSString *)string{ Any help would be of much help

  • How to persist and load an object which conforms to NSCoding protocol?

    - by mystify
    I have made an class which conforms to the NSCoding protocol and does all the encode and decode stuff. For my app, I simply want to persist an object from that class to the device and the next time when the app launches, I want to load that object back into memory. Basically it's just an class which holds some user input information. For example the user starts writing a text but then quits the app. Next time I want to load that data object. I guess I need NSKeyedArchiver? Is there a good tutorial on this? How do I do that?

  • Can draw on only half of UIView

    - by ydlee777
    Hello. I am trying to draw grid on a UIView on a UIScrollView. The width of UIView is about 1000 pixels. However, I can draw lines only about first 340 pixels of the UIView. Can anyone help me on this? The drawGrid function is - (void)drawRect:(CGRect)rect { NSInteger width = 25 * 5 * 10; NSInteger height = (10 * 2 + 10) * 12; NSInteger i; //Get the CGContext from this view CGContextRef context = UIGraphicsGetCurrentContext(); // Draw rectangle with a blue stroke color and white fill color CGContextSetRGBStrokeColor(context, 0.0, 0.0, 1.0, 1.0); CGContextSetRGBFillColor(context, 0.0, 0.0, 1.0, 1.0); CGContextSetLineWidth(context, 2.0); CGContextAddRect(context, CGRectMake(0.0, 0.0, width, height)); CGContextFillPath(context); // Draw grid with red color CGContextSetStrokeColorWithColor(context, [UIColor redColor].CGColor); // Set the width of the pen mark CGContextSetLineWidth(context, 0.2); for (i = 0; i < height; i += 5) { if (i % 25 == 0) { CGContextSetLineWidth(context, 0.4); // Draw a line CGContextMoveToPoint(context, i, 0.0); CGContextAddLineToPoint(context, i, width); CGContextStrokePath(context); CGContextSetLineWidth(context, 0.2); } else { // Draw a line CGContextMoveToPoint(context, i, 0.0); CGContextAddLineToPoint(context, i, width); CGContextStrokePath(context); } } for (i = 0; i < width; i += 5) { if (i % 25 == 0) { CGContextSetLineWidth(context, 0.4); // Draw a line CGContextMoveToPoint(context, 0.0, i); CGContextAddLineToPoint(context, height, i); CGContextStrokePath(context); CGContextSetLineWidth(context, 0.2); } else { // Draw a line CGContextMoveToPoint(context, 0.0, i); CGContextAddLineToPoint(context, height, i); CGContextStrokePath(context); } } } I am also setting up the UIScrollView and UIView as follows: - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; CGRect frame = CGRectMake(0, 0, self.view.frame.size.width, self.view.frame.size.height); waveScrollView = [[WaveScrollView alloc] initWithFrame:frame]; CGRect waveframe = CGRectMake(0, 0, 25 * 5 * 10, (10 * 2 + 10) * 12); EKGWaveView *ekgWaveView = [[EKGWaveView alloc] initWithFrame:waveframe]; waveScrollView.contentSize = CGSizeMake(waveframe.size.width, waveframe.size.height); waveScrollView.maximumZoomScale = 4.0; waveScrollView.minimumZoomScale = 0.75; waveScrollView.clipsToBounds = YES; waveScrollView.aView = ekgWaveView; [waveScrollView addSubview:ekgWaveView]; waveScrollView.delegate = self; [self.view addSubview:waveScrollView]; } I appreciate any help.   • UITextField showing trash instead of characters

    - by krasnyk
    There's quite a strange thing happening to text fields in application I'm developing (see image below).  [1]: http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/1449/zrzutekranu20100506godz.png At some point in the application I'm using    - (void) viewWillAppear:(BOOL)animated { [super viewWillAppear:animated]; [[(TextFieldView*)[self view] usernameTextField] becomeFirstResponder];    } Which results in the above image. If it's called in viewDidAppear - everything is fine. The funny thing about this error is that it breaks ALL text fields throught the application. Has anyone ever encountered such an error? Might it be related to openGL use?

  • How to add "loading" screen for UIWebView app each time new page is being loaded?

    - by AragornSG
    I have an app that works with tabs and webview. I already have it setup to refresh the page assigned to a tab each time the item on tabbar is selected. My problem now is that it takes some time to load the page and it's impossible to say if the page being displayed is the old or refreshed one. What I want to do is add a "loading" screen (a simple image) which will be displayed until the refreshed page is loaded. Here is the function I run on each tab tap: - (void) goToPage:(NSString *)sid { NSString *newURL = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@/mykingdom.php?sid=%@", appURL, sid]; [secondView loadRequest:[NSURLRequest requestWithURL:[NSURL URLWithString:newURL]]]; } Thanks!

  • Why does initWithFrame have the wrong frame value?

    - by greypoint
    I have a subclass of UIButton called INMenuCard and I am overriding the initWithFrame to include an activity indicator. The menuCard places correctly but any internal reference to "frame" give me "inf,inf,0,0" which means my activityIndicator subview is not placed correctly. What might I be missing? @implementation INMenuCard - (id)initWithFrame:(CGRect)frame { if (self = [super initWithFrame:frame]) { CGRect innerFrame = CGRectInset(frame, 50.0f, 100.0f); activityIndicator = [[UIActivityIndicatorView alloc] initWithFrame:innerFrame]; activityIndicator.activityIndicatorViewStyle = UIActivityIndicatorViewStyleWhite; [self addSubview:activityIndicator]; } return self; } I am instantiating INMenuCard with (debugging shows the CGRect values are correct): CGRect cardFrame = CGRectMake(cardX, cardStartY, cardWidth, cardHeight); INMenuCard *menuCard = [[INMenuCard buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeCustom] initWithFrame:cardFrame]; [theView addSubView:menuCard];

  • NSSortdescriptor, finding the path to the key I wish to use for sorting.

    - by RickiG
    Hi I am using an NSSortdescriptor to sort a collection of NSArrays, I then came across a case where the particular NSArray to be sorted contains an NSDictionary who contains an NSDictionary. I would like to sort from the string paired with a key in the last dictionary. This is how I would reference the string: NSDictionary *productDict = [MyArray objectAtIndex:index]; NSString *dealerName = [[productDict objectForKey:@"dealer"] objectForKey:@"name"]; How would I use the dealerName in my NSSortdescriptor to sort the array? NSSortDescriptor * sortDesc = [[NSSortDescriptor alloc] initWithKey:/* ? */ ascending:YES]; sortedDealerArray = [value sortedArrayUsingDescriptors:sortDesc]; [sortDesc release]; Hope someone could help me a bit with how I go about sorting according to keys inside objects inside other objects:) Thank you.

  • Help with a loop to return UIImage from possible matches

    - by Canada Dev
    I am parsing a list of locations and would like to return a UIImage with a flag based on these locations. I have a string with the location. This can be many different locations and I would like to search this string for possible matches in an NSArray, and when there's a match, it should find the appropriate filename in an NSDictionary. Here's an example of the NSDictionary and NSArray: NSDictionary *dict = [NSDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys: @"franceFlag", @"france", @"greeceFlag", @"greece", @"spainFlag", @"spain", @"norwayFlag", @"norway", nil]; NSArray *array = [NSArray arrayWithObjects: @"france" @"greece" @"spain" @"portugal" @"ireland" @"norway", nil]; Obviously I'll have a lot more countries and flags in both. Here's what I have got to so far: -(UIImage *)flagFromOrigin:(NSString *)locationString { NSRange range; for (NSString *arrayString in countryArray) { range = [locationString rangeOfString:arrayString]; if (range.location != NSNotFound) { return [UIImage imageWithContentsOfFile:[[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:[dictionary objectForKey: arrayString] ofType:@"png"]]; } } return nil; } Now, the above doesn't actually work. I am missing something (and perhaps not even doing it right in the first place) The issue is, the locationString could have several locations in the same country, described something like this "Barcelona, Spain", "Madrid, Spain", "North Spain", etc., but I just want to retrieve "Spain" in this case. (Also, notice caps for each country). Basically, I want to search the locationString I pass into the method for a possible match with one of the countries listed in the NSArray. If/When one is found, it should continue into the NSDictionary and grab the appropriate flag based on the correct matched string from the array. I believe the best way would then to take the string from the array, as this would be a stripped-out version of the location. Any help to point me in the right direction for the last bit is greatly appreciated.

  • Collision detection problems...

    - by thyrgle
    Hi, I have written the following: -(void) checkIfLineCollidesWithAll { float slope = ((160-L1Circle1.position.y)-(160-L1Circle2.position.y))/((240-L1Circle1.position.x)-(240-L1Circle2.position.x)); float b = (160-L1Circle1.position.y) - slope * (240-L1Circle1.position.x); if ((240-L1Sensor1.position.x) < (240-L1Circle1.position.x) && (240-L1Sensor1.position.x) < (240-L1Circle2.position.x) || ((240-L1Sensor1.position.x) > (240-L1Circle1.position.x) && (240-L1Sensor1.position.x) > (240-L1Circle2.position.x))) { [L1Sensor1 setTexture:[[CCTextureCache sharedTextureCache] addImage:@"SensorOk.png"]]; } else if (slope == INFINITY || slope == -INFINITY) { if (L1Circle1.position.y + 16 >= L1Sensor1.position.y || L1Circle1.position.y - 16 <= L1Sensor1.position.y) { [L1Sensor1 setTexture:[[CCTextureCache sharedTextureCache] addImage:@"SensorBad.png"]]; } else { [L1Sensor1 setTexture:[[CCTextureCache sharedTextureCache] addImage:@"SensorOk.png"]]; } } else if (160-L1Sensor1.position.y + 12 >= slope*(240-L1Sensor1.position.x) + b && 160-L1Sensor1.position.y - 12 <= slope*(240-L1Sensor1.position.x) + b) { [L1Sensor1 setTexture:[[CCTextureCache sharedTextureCache] addImage:@"SensorBad.png"]]; } else { [L1Sensor1 setTexture:[[CCTextureCache sharedTextureCache] addImage:@"SensorOk.png"]]; } } Basically what this does is finds m and b in the well known equation: y = mx + b and then substitutes coordinates of the L1Sensor1 (the circle I'm trying to detect if it it intersects with the line segment) to see if y = mx + b hold true. But, there are two problems, first, when slope approaches infinity the range of what the L1Sensor1 should "react" to (it "reacts" by changing its image) becomes smaller. Also, the code that should handle infinity is not working. Thanks for the help in advanced.

  • iTune redeem codes: limited to a single version?

    - by Big Papoo
    Hi, I'm wondering if V1.0 generated redeem codes will be usable on a V1.1 version of my app? BTW, I know redeem codes are valid only 4 weeks and I also know that apps downloaded with a redeem code can be upgraded for free as with paid ones. My concern here is just: do unused redeem codes become invalid when a new version of my app will be available on the store? Apple's doc is not clear about this point. Did someone experience this yet ? Thx. --GQ.

  • Custom Section Name Crashing NSFetchedResultsController

    - by Mike H.
    I have a managed object with a dueDate attribute. Instead of displaying using some ugly date string as the section headers of my UITableView I created a transient attribute called "category" and defined it like so: - (NSString*)category { [self willAccessValueForKey:@"category"]; NSString* categoryName; if ([self isOverdue]) { categoryName = @"Overdue"; } else if ([self.finishedDate != nil]) { categoryName = @"Done"; } else { categoryName = @"In Progress"; } [self didAccessValueForKey:@"category"]; return categoryName; } Here is the NSFetchedResultsController set up: NSFetchRequest *fetchRequest = [[NSFetchRequest alloc] init]; NSEntityDescription *entity = [NSEntityDescription entityForName:@"Task" inManagedObjectContext:managedObjectContext]; [fetchRequest setEntity:entity]; NSMutableArray* descriptors = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; NSSortDescriptor *dueDateDescriptor = [[NSSortDescriptor alloc] initWithKey:@"dueDate" ascending:YES]; [descriptors addObject:dueDateDescriptor]; [dueDateDescriptor release]; [fetchRequest setSortDescriptors:descriptors]; fetchedResultsController = [[NSFetchedResultsController alloc] initWithFetchRequest:fetchRequest managedObjectContext:managedObjectContext sectionNameKeyPath:@"category" cacheName:@"Root"]; The table initially displays fine, showing the unfinished items whose dueDate has not passed in a section titled "In Progress". Now, the user can tap a row in the table view which pushes a new details view onto the navigation stack. In this new view the user can tap a button to indicate that the item is now "Done". Here is the handler for the button (self.task is the managed object): - (void)taskDoneButtonTapped { self.task.finishedDate = [NSDate date]; } As soon as the value of the "finishedDate" attribute changes I'm hit with this exception: 2010-03-18 23:29:52.476 MyApp[1637:207] Serious application error. Exception was caught during Core Data change processing: no section named 'Done' found with userInfo (null) 2010-03-18 23:29:52.477 MyApp[1637:207] *** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInternalInconsistencyException', reason: 'no section named 'Done' found' I've managed to figure out that the UITableView that is currently hidden by the new details view is trying to update its rows and sections because the NSFetchedResultsController was notified that something changed in the data set. Here's my table update code (copied from either the Core Data Recipes sample or the CoreBooks sample -- I can't remember which): - (void)controllerWillChangeContent:(NSFetchedResultsController *)controller { [self.tableView beginUpdates]; } - (void)controller:(NSFetchedResultsController *)controller didChangeObject:(id)anObject atIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath forChangeType:(NSFetchedResultsChangeType)type newIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)newIndexPath { switch(type) { case NSFetchedResultsChangeInsert: [self.tableView insertRowsAtIndexPaths:[NSArray arrayWithObject:newIndexPath] withRowAnimation:UITableViewRowAnimationFade]; break; case NSFetchedResultsChangeDelete: [self.tableView deleteRowsAtIndexPaths:[NSArray arrayWithObject:indexPath] withRowAnimation:UITableViewRowAnimationFade]; break; case NSFetchedResultsChangeUpdate: [self configureCell:[self.tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:indexPath] atIndexPath:indexPath]; break; case NSFetchedResultsChangeMove: [self.tableView deleteRowsAtIndexPaths:[NSArray arrayWithObject:indexPath] withRowAnimation:UITableViewRowAnimationFade]; // Reloading the section inserts a new row and ensures that titles are updated appropriately. [self.tableView reloadSections:[NSIndexSet indexSetWithIndex:newIndexPath.section] withRowAnimation:UITableViewRowAnimationFade]; break; } } - (void)controller:(NSFetchedResultsController *)controller didChangeSection:(id <NSFetchedResultsSectionInfo>)sectionInfo atIndex:(NSUInteger)sectionIndex forChangeType:(NSFetchedResultsChangeType)type { switch(type) { case NSFetchedResultsChangeInsert: [self.tableView insertSections:[NSIndexSet indexSetWithIndex:sectionIndex] withRowAnimation:UITableViewRowAnimationFade]; break; case NSFetchedResultsChangeDelete: [self.tableView deleteSections:[NSIndexSet indexSetWithIndex:sectionIndex] withRowAnimation:UITableViewRowAnimationFade]; break; } } - (void)controllerDidChangeContent:(NSFetchedResultsController *)controller { [self.tableView endUpdates]; } I put breakpoints in each of these functions and found that only controllerWillChange is called. The exception is thrown before either controller:didChangeObject:atIndexPath:forChangeType:newIndex or controller:didChangeSection:atIndex:forChangeType are called. At this point I'm stuck. If I change my sectionNameKeyPath to just "dueDate" then everything works fine. I think that's because the dueDate attribute never changes whereas the category will be different when read back after the finishedDate attribute changes. Please help! UPDATE: Here is my UITableViewDataSource code: - (NSInteger)numberOfSectionsInTableView:(UITableView *)tableView { return [[self.fetchedResultsController sections] count]; } - (NSInteger)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView numberOfRowsInSection:(NSInteger)section { id <NSFetchedResultsSectionInfo> sectionInfo = [[self.fetchedResultsController sections] objectAtIndex:section]; return [sectionInfo numberOfObjects]; } - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { static NSString *CellIdentifier = @"Cell"; UITableViewCell *cell = [self.tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier]; if (cell == nil) { cell = [[[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault reuseIdentifier:CellIdentifier] autorelease]; } [self configureCell:cell atIndexPath:indexPath]; return cell; } - (NSString *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView titleForHeaderInSection:(NSInteger)section { id <NSFetchedResultsSectionInfo> sectionInfo = [[self.fetchedResultsController sections] objectAtIndex:section]; return [sectionInfo name]; }

  • Xcode automatically converts the object to NSArray

    - by Farrukh Javeid
    I have been working on an app and during the development, I am facing a very strange problem. I have a NSMutableArray tempSortedArray, which is full of objects of Store types. All the objects are valid as I can see them in my GUI, the problem arises when I iterate through the array, at index 90, which can be generally anyone, the XCode converts the Store object to NSMutableArray object. Any idea, why this is happening. This is the code to check out what I am doing: NSSortDescriptor *sortDescriptor = [[NSSortDescriptor alloc] initWithKey:@"cashBack" ascending:NO]; NSArray *sortDescriptors = [NSArray arrayWithObject:sortDescriptor]; NSArray *sortedArray = [storesArray sortedArrayUsingDescriptors:sortDescriptors]; for (int i = 0; i < [tempSortedArray count]; i++) { Store *currentStore = [tempSortedArray objectAtIndex:i]; NSLog(@"store class: %@", [currentStore.class description]); if (currentStore.cashBackTypeString != (id)[NSNull null]) { //do whatever is required to do here }

  • APNS Sending Frequent Notifications to Device

    - by user564447
    I'm trying to mimic a pager with my app by sending push notifications to the user until he or she responds. My thought was to send a push every few seconds and play the default sound on arrival. Not perfect, but better than nothing. It's working all right. However, I am finding that the sound starts to stutter/interrupt a bit after a few notifications have been sent -- as if it's trying to play the sound more than once. This happens even if I only send the push every 10 seconds. I just tested it at 20 second intervals and even then it starts to sound interrupted after about 10 times. Any idea how to resolve this so each message plays the sound crisply? p.s. Testing performed on an iPad.
