  • Is there any Application Server Frameworks for other languages/platforms than JavaEE and .NET?

    - by Jonas
I'm a CS student and has rare experience from the enterprise software industry. When I'm reading about enterprise software platforms, I mostly read about these two: Java Enterprise Edition, JavaEE .NET and Windows Communication Foundation By "enterprise software platforms" I mean frameworks and application servers with support for the same characteristics as J2EE and WCF has: [JavaEE] provide functionality to deploy fault-tolerant, distributed, multi-tier Java software, based largely on modular components running on an application server. WCF is designed in accordance with service oriented architecture principles to support distributed computing where services are consumed by consumers. Clients can consume multiple services and services can be consumed by multiple clients. Services are loosely coupled to each other. Is there any alternatives to these two "enterprise software platforms"? Isn't any other programming languages used in a bigger rate for this problem area? I.e Why isn't there any popular application servers for C++/Qt?

  • executorservice to read data from database in chuncks and run process on them

    - by TazMan
    I'm trying to write a process that would read data from a database and upload it onto a cloud datastore. How can I decide the partition strategy of the data? I want to query the table in chunks and process each chunk in 10 threads. Each thread basically will send the data to an individual node on a 10 node cluster on the cloud.. Where in the below multi threading code will the dataquery to extract and send 10 concurrent requests for uploading data to cloud would be? public class Caller { public static void main(String[] args) { ExecutorService executor = Executors.newFixedThreadPool(10); for (int i = 0; i < 10; i++) { Runnable worker = new DomainCDCProcessor(i); executor.execute(worker); } executor.shutdown(); while (!executor.isTerminated()) { } System.out.println("Finished all threads"); } }

  • Java Authenticator on a per connection basis?

    - by Martijn Laarman
I'm building an Eclipse plugin that talks to a REST interface which uses Basic Authentication. When the authentication fails I would like to popup my plugin's settings dialog and retry. Normally I could use the static Authenticator.setDefault() to setup an authenticator for all HttpURLConnection's for this, but since I am writing a plugin I don't want to overwrite Eclipse's default Authenticator (org.eclipse.ui.internal.net.auth); I thought of setting my custom Authenticator before loading and putting Eclipse's default back afterwards, but I imagine this will cause all sorts of race issues with multithreading so I quickly lost that notion. Google searches yield all sorts of results basically telling me it's not possible: The Java URLConnection API should have a setAuthenticator(Authenticator) method for making it easier to use this class in multi-threaded context where authentication is required. Source If applications contains few third party plugins and each plugin use its own Authenticator what we should do? Each invocation of "Authenticator.setDefault()" method rewrite previously defined Authenticator... Source Are there any different approaches that might help me overcome this issue?

  • attaching multiple files to a domain class

    - by Emyr
I've seen various Grails plugins which allow easier handling of file uploads, however these tend only to support a single file per form-submit. I'd like a multi-attach form where as soon as you pick one file, an extra field and button is added using JS (various sites do it like this). Do you know of any good plugins which provide elegant uploading of multiple files without excessive coding? A progress bar either per-file of for the whole process would also be very nice. I don't know to what extent I can allow GORM to handle a java.io.File field (or in this case a Collection<File>).

  • Generate form based on selection

    - by Jay
I'm looking to build a web application that allows a person to select a plan and fill out an application for that plan. There are multiple plans and each plan generates a different application. Some of the questions are identical such as fields related to personal information. I'm thinking of using ASP.NET MVC to build this web application. When generating the multi page application would it be best to Create partial views (sections of applications) and combine them when generating the form. OR Build some type of dynamic form generator

  • Loading Unmanaged C++ in C#. Error Attempted to read or write protected memory

    - by Thatoneguy
I have a C++ function that looks like this __declspec(dllexport) int ___stdcall RegisterPerson(char const * const szName) { std::string copyName( szName ); // Assign name to a google protocol buffer object // Psuedo code follows.. Protobuf::Person person; person->set_name(copyName); // Error Occurs here... std::cerr << person->DebugString() << std::endl; } The corresponding C# code looks like this... [DllImport(@"MyLibrary.dll", SetLastError = true)] public static unsafe extern int RegisterPerson([MarshalAs(UnmanagedType.LPTStr)]string szName) Not sure why this is not working. My C++ library is compiled as Multi Threaded DLL with MultiByte encoding. Any help would be appreciated. I saw this is a common problem online but no answers lead me to a solution for my problem.

  • Possible to exclude a column from `*` ?

    - by Earlz
Is it possible to exclude a column from a select * from table statement with SQL Server? I have a need for this and this is my only option other than parsing a raw SQL string to get out the required field names (I really don't want to do that). Just to be bold. When the query is made I do not have access to the list of fields needed from the table but I do know which field I do not need. This is part of a complex multi-part query. Surely there must be some way even if it's "hackish" such as using table variables or views

  • Will Haskell be a good choice for my task?

    - by Narzanka
I'm starting a new project and don't know which language to use. My 'must have' requirements are: Be able to run on Windows/LinuxMacOs natively (native executable) - user should be able to just run the exe (when on Windows for example) and see the results. No runtimes/interpreters (no jvm, clr, etc) - one file download should be enough to run the application. Full unicode support. Be able to manipulate OS threads (create them, run multiple tasks in parallel on multi-core CPUs, etc). Be reasonably fast (Python level performance and better). To have some kind of standard library that does low-level, mundane tasks. Not very niche and have some community behind it to be able to ask questions. My 'nice to have' requirements are: Language should be functional It should have good string manipulation capabilities (not necessarily regex) Not extremely hard to learn I'm thinking about Haskell now but keeping in mind OCaml as well. Please advice if my choice is correct.

  • In a Windows forms application, how can I use a listbox in a DataGridView coloumn instead of a combo

    - by Alex
I'm working on a windows forms application that uses a DataGridView. Some of the cells contain a DataGridViewComboBox. In some cases, I have several values to display in the combobox. For that scenario, it would be better to use a ListBox instead of a ComboBox. Is it possible to use a multi-column listbox within a DataGridView instead of a ComboBox? If so, can you point me in the right direction? Thanks much. Al D.

  • Windows Form Components Access

    - by rxm0203
What is the best way to access components (e.g. imagelist, timer) from a form instance? I am working on multi form windows forms application on .NET Compact Framework version 3.5 SP1 with C#. I have a Controller class associated with each form for MVC implementation. Here is my sample Controller class. public class Controller { public void Init(Form f) { //f.Controls will allow access to all controls //How shall I access imagelist, timer on form f. } } My question is how can I access non visual components without taking a performance hit of reflection? Any code snippets are welcome. If reflection is only way, then can you provide me optimal way for components access please? Thanks,

  • Value of Step-by-Step Asserts in Unit Tests

    - by Eric J.
When writing unit tests, there are cases where one can create an Assert for each condition that could fail or an Assert that would catch all such conditions. C# Example: Dictionary<string, string> dict = LoadDictionary(); // Optional Asserts: Assert.IsNotNull(dict); Assert.IsTrue(dict.Count > 0); Assert.IsTrue(dict.ContainsKey("ExpectedKey")); // Condition actually interested in testing: Assert.IsTrue(dict["ExpectedKey"] == "ExpectedValue"); Is there value to a large, multi-person project in this kind of situation to add the "Optional Asserts"? There's more work involved (if you have lots of unit tests) but it will be more immediately clear where the problem lies. I'm using VS 2010 and the integrated testing tools but intend the question to be generic.

  • Portable Socket programming in C/C++ possible?

    - by questions
I am thinking of creating a multi-platform portable C++ server-client application. Is it even possible while using only standard libraries? If no, what other libraries are there? Are there any improvements in this direction in C++11x? Like for threads, now we have std::threads. To make it more clear.. I want something like boost::thread, which provides multiplatform portable multithreading, for networking. And why C++ doesn't have libraries(standard) for such basic things like networking?

  • Simulators for thread scheduling on multicore

    - by shijie xu
I am seeking a simulator for thread scheduling at multi-core architecture, that is mapping threads to the cores at runtime. During runtime, simulator collects overall cache and IPC statistics. I checked below simulators, but seems there are not sufficient for me: Simplescalar: A simulator only for single core. SESC: multiprocessor simulator with detailed power, thermal, and performance models, QSim: provides instruction-level control of the emulated environment and detailed information about the executing instruction stream. It seems both SESC and QSim supports instructions scheduling instead of thread scheduling on the cores? Anyone can help provide some clues or share experience for this part?

  • port an iOS (iPhone) app to mac?

    - by William Jockusch
Is there a preferred way to go about this? The app in question is not too large . . . single-player game that I wrote over the course of a couple of months. EDIT: I should add that I have no experience with mac development . . . outside of what comes naturally with being an iOS developer. EDIT: Classes heavily used in the game: subclasses of NSObject, UIView, and UIViewController. I don't know much about NSView, but I'm pretty sure all the UIView stuff will work in that class. Also some use of UITableViewController. I do also have Game Center, but I can leave that part out for now. There is no multi-touch.

  • Network license control for a Java application

    - by user1461615
I have been tasked with providing some form of network license control for a Java application. The app would be stored on a network drive and run from a client machine. The basic idea is that it will be able to work out how many times it is being run concurrently and prevent the N+1th user from running the software where N is the number of concurrent licenses the customer has purchased. Is this possible somehow with a Java application? I implemented a "solution" which relied on multi-cast UDP communication between the running instances of the application but this didn't work because on most networks this kind of communication is blocked by security measures. Is there a better way? I don't even mind if it requires JNI/JNA. N.B. The solution does not have to be that sophisticated or highly secure.

  • How to get top/left x/y of image map with javascript / jquery?

    - by jpea
Using jQuery's position() or offset(), I can't seeme to get the top/left coordinates of an image map area. It works in FF, but nothing else - no webkit, IE, Opera. $('area').bind("click",function(){ alert($(this).position().left); }); <area shape="rect" coords="14,25,205,150" href="#"> Anyone know of a different way to access these? Normally I would just take the coords and split(",") but there are a bunch of multi-faceted area's on these pages.

  • How to use BCDEdit to dual boot Windows installations?

    - by Ian Boyd
What are the bcdedit commands necessary to setup dual boot between different installations of Windows?5 Background i recently installed Windows 8 onto a separate hard drive1. Now that Windows 8 in installed i want to dual-boot back to Windows 7. i have my two2 hard drives: So you can see that i have my two disks, with the partitions containing Windows: Windows 7: \\PhysicalDisk0 (partition 03) Windows 8: \\PhysicalDisk2 (partition 1) What i'm trying to figure out how is how to use bcdedit to instruct the thing that boots Windows that there is another Windows installation out there. Running bcdedit now, it shows current configuration: C:\WINDOWS\system32>bcdedit Windows Boot Manager -------------------- identifier {bootmgr} device partition=\Device\HarddiskVolume2 description Windows Boot Manager locale en-US inherit {globalsettings} integrityservices Enable default {current} resumeobject {ce153eb7-3786-11e2-87c0-e740e123299f} displayorder {current} toolsdisplayorder {memdiag} timeout 30 Windows Boot Loader ------------------- identifier {current} device partition=C: path \WINDOWS\system32\winload.exe description Windows 8 locale en-US inherit {bootloadersettings} recoverysequence {ce153eb9-3786-11e2-87c0-e740e123299f} integrityservices Enable recoveryenabled Yes allowedinmemorysettings 0x15000075 osdevice partition=C: systemroot \WINDOWS resumeobject {ce153eb7-3786-11e2-87c0-e740e123299f} nx OptIn bootmenupolicy Standard hypervisorlaunchtype Auto i cannot find any documentation on the difference between Windows Boot Manager and Windows Boot Loader. Documentation There is some documentation on Bcdedit: Technet: Command Line Reference - Bcdedit Technet: Windows Automated Installation Kit - BCDEdit Command Line Options Whitepaper - BCDEdit Commands for Boot Environment (Word Document) But they don't explain how edit the binary boot configuration data If i had to guess, i would think that a Windows Boot Manager instructs the BIOS what program it should run. That program would give the user a set of boot choices. That leaves Windows Boot Loader do be a particular boot choice, that represents a particular installation of Windows. If that is the case i would need to create a new Windows Boot Loader entry. This means i might want to use the /create parameter: /create Creates a new boot entry: bcdedit [/store filename] /create [id] /d description [/application apptype | /inherit [apptype] | /inherit DEVICE | /device] So i assume a syntax of: >bcdedit /create /d "The old Windows 7" /application osloader Where application can be one of the following types: Apptype Description BOOTSECTOR The boot sector application OSLOADER The Windows boot loader RESUME A resume application Unfortunately, the only documentation about osloader is "The Windows boot loader". i don't see how that can differentiate between Windows 8 on one hard drive, and Windows 7 on another. The other possible parameter when /create a boot loader is >bcdedit /create /D "Windows Vista" /device "The Quick Brown Fox" Unfortunately the documentation is missing for /device: /device Optional. If id is not set to a well-known identifier, the option that is used to specify the new boot entry as an additional device options entry. Since i did not set id to a well-known identifier, i must set /device to "the option that is used to specify the new boot entry as an additional device options entry". i know all those words; they're all English. But i have on idea what it is saying; those words in that order seem nonsensical. So i'm somewhat stymied. i don't want to be like Dan Stolts from Microsoft: I found no content that was particularly helpful when I hosed my machine by playing with BCDEdit. This post would have been ok if there was much more detail especially on the /set command OSDevice, etc. So once I got my machine fixed, I documented the solution and the information is here.... i mean, if a Microsoft guy can't even figure out how to use BCDEdit to edit his BCD, then what chance to i have? Bonus Reading BCDEdit Command-Line Options Bcdedit Server 2008 R2 or Windows 7 System Will NOT Boot After Making Changes To Boot Manager Using BCDEdit Visual BCD Editor4 Windows 7 and Windows 8 RTM Dual Boot Setup Footnotes 1 Since the Windows 8 installer would have damaged my Windows 7 install, i decided to unplug my "main" hard drive during the install. Which is a long-winded explanation of why the Windows 8 installer didn't detect the existing Windows 7 install. Normally the installer would have automatically created the required entries for dual-boot. Not that the reason i'm asking the question is important. 2 Really there's three drives, but the third is just bulk storage. The existence of a 3rd hard drive is irrelevant to the question. i only mention it in case someone wants to know why the screenshot has 3 hard drives when i only mention two. 3 i arbitrarily started numbering partitions at "zero"; not to imply that partitions are numbered starting at zero. i only mention partitions because i don't see how any boot-loader could do its job without knowing which partition, and which folder, an installation of Windows is located in. 4 i'm asking about BCDEdit. i tried Visual BCD Editor. It seems to be a visual BCD editor. That is to say that it's a GUI, but still uses the same terminology as BCDEdit, and requires the same knowledge that BCD doesn't document. 5 For simplicity sake we'll assume that all installation of Windows i want to dual-boot between are Windows Vista or later, making them all compatible with the BCDEdit and the binary boot loader. The alternative would require delving into the intricacies of the old ntloader. Nor am i asking about dual booting to Linux; or how to boot to a Virtual Hard Drive (vhd) image. Just modern versions of Windows on existing hard drives in the same machine. Note: You can ignore everything after the word Background. It's all pointless exposition to satisfy some people's need for "research effort" before they'll consider being helpful. Some people have even been known to summarily close questions unless there is research effort. Some people have been know to close questions if there is too much research effort. Some people close questions when i put the note saying that they can ignore everything after the Background out of spite. Some people are just grumpy.

  • installed openstack using devstack install shell script but getting 500 error when i try opening dashboard

    - by Arvind
I followed the instructions at http://devstack.org/guides/single-machine.html to install OpenStack. I first installed Ubuntu on my Windows 7 PC using the officially supported Windows installer for Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. And after that I followed the instructions at above page to install OpenStack. As per instructions, I should be able to access the dashboard aka Horizon, at http://192.168.1.4/ (thats the IP of the PC on which I installed Ubuntu-OpenStack). However I am getting a 500 error web page when I open that. How do I resolve this error? I want to set up a dev environment for OpenStack. For your ref, the whole error message is given now-- FilterError at / /usr/bin/env: node: No such file or directory Request Method: GET Request URL: http://192.168.1.4/ Django Version: 1.4.2 Exception • All Xen domU LVM volumes corrupt after reboot

    - by zcs
I'm running a Debian Squeeze dom0, and after rebooting it all 7 of my domUs have data corruption. Each is setup as ext3 partition directly on a separate lvm2 volume. None of the lvm volumes will mount; all have bad superblocks. I've tried e2fsck with each superblock to no avail. What else can I try? Each domU has two LVM volumes connected to it, one for the disk and one for swap. The disk is mounted at root, formatted as a normal ext3 partition as a xen-blk device. The volumes are never mounted outside of the guest OS. I'm running Ubuntu 11.04 using the instructions here. I'm not sure that they didn't shutdown properly, all I know is they were corrupt after I issues a clean 'reboot' on the dom0. Here's a sample Xen config file; the rest are the same except for name, vcpus, memory, vif and disk. name = 'load1' vcpus = 2 memory = 512 vif = ['bridge=prbr0', 'bridge=eth0'] disk = ['phy:/dev/VolGroup00/load1-disk,xvda,w','phy:/dev/VolGroup00/load1-swap,xvdb,w'] #============================================================================ # Debian Installer specific variables def check_bool(name, value): value = str(value).lower() if value in ('t', 'tr', 'tru', 'true'): return True return False global var_check_with_default def var_check_with_default(default, var, val): if val: return val return default xm_vars.var('install', use='Install Debian, default: false', check=check_bool) xm_vars.var("install-method", use='Installation method to use "cdrom" or "network" (default: network)', check=lambda var, val: var_check_with_default('network', var, val)) # install-method == "network" xm_vars.var("install-mirror", use='Debian mirror to install from (default: http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu)', check=lambda var, val: var_check_with_default('http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu', var, val)) xm_vars.var("install-suite", use='Debian suite to install (default: natty)', check=lambda var, val: var_check_with_default('natty', var, val)) # install-method == "cdrom" xm_vars.var("install-media", use='Installation media to use (default: None)', check=lambda var, val: var_check_with_default(None, var, val)) xm_vars.var("install-cdrom-device", use='Installation media to use (default: xvdd)', check=lambda var, val: var_check_with_default('xvdd', var, val)) # Common options xm_vars.var("install-arch", use='Debian mirror to install from (default: amd64)', check=lambda var, val: var_check_with_default('amd64', var, val)) xm_vars.var("install-extra", use='Extra command line options (default: None)', check=lambda var, val: var_check_with_default(None, var, val)) xm_vars.var("install-installer", use='Debian installer to use (default: network uses install-mirror; • How do I add xen kernel boot parameters in grub2?

    - by Matt
I know that I can add command line parameters to the grub2 command line by editing /etc/default/grub according to this answer How do I add a boot parameter to grub2 in Ubuntu 10.10? However, that would apply to ALL kernels would it not? How do I apply the command line parameters to specific kernels? i.e. only xen. I'm wanting to append something like: xen-pciback.hide=(06:00.0) I'm guessing I need to add it somewhere in the file: /etc/grub.d/20_linux_xen Which contains: #! /bin/sh set -e # grub-mkconfig helper script. # Copyright (C) 2006,2007,2008,2009,2010 Free Software Foundation, Inc. # # GRUB is free software: you can redistribute it and/or modify # it under the terms of the GNU General Public License as published by # the Free Software Foundation, either version 3 of the License, or # (at your option) any later version. # # GRUB is distributed in the hope that it will be useful, # but WITHOUT ANY WARRANTY; without even the implied warranty of # MERCHANTABILITY or FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. • sshd running but no PID file

    - by dunxd
I'm recently started using monit to monitor the status of sshd on my CentOS 5.4 server. This works fine, but every so often monit reports that sshd is no longer running. This isn't true - I am still able to login to the server via ssh, however I note the following: There is no longer any PID file at /var/run/sshd.pid - after a reboot this file exists. Once it is gone, restarting sshd via service sshd restart does not create the PID file. sudo service sshd status reports openssh-daemon is stopped - again, restarting sshd does not change this, but a reboot does. sudo service sshd stop reports failed, presumably because of the missing PID file. Any idea what is going on? Update sudo netstat -lptun gives the following output relating to port 22 tcp 0 0 :::22 :::* LISTEN 20735/sshd Killing the process with this PID as suggested by @Henry and then starting sshd via service results in service sshd status recognising the process by PID again. Would still like to understand this better. RPM verify suggested by a couple of answerers shows this: sudo rpm -vV openssh openssh-server openssh-clients | grep 'S\.5' S.5....T c /etc/pam.d/sshd S.5....T c /etc/ssh/sshd_config /etc/pam.d/sshd has the following contents: #%PAM-1.0 auth include system-auth account required pam_nologin.so account include system-auth password include system-auth session optional pam_keyinit.so force revoke session include system-auth #session required pam_loginuid.so Should that last line be commented out? Update Here's the output of @YannickGirouard 's script: $ sudo ./sshd_test Searching for the process listening on port 22... Found the following PID: 21330 Command line for PID 21330: /usr/sbin/sshd Listing process(es) relating to PID 21330: UID PID PPID C STIME TTY TIME CMD root 21330 1 0 14:04 ? 00:00:00 /usr/sbin/sshd Listing RPM information about openssh packages: Name : openssh Relocations: (not relocatable) Version : 4.3p2 Vendor: CentOS Release : 72.el5_7.5 Build Date: Tue 30 Aug 2011 12:34:14 AM BST Install Date: Sun 06 Nov 2011 12:50:57 AM GMT Build Host: builder10.centos.org Group : Applications/Internet Source RPM: openssh-4.3p2-72.el5_7.5.src.rpm Size : 745390 License: BSD Signature : DSA/SHA1, Fri 02 Sep 2011 01:13:01 AM BST, Key ID a8a447dce8562897 URL : http://www.openssh.com/portable.html Summary : The OpenSSH implementation of SSH protocol versions 1 and 2 ------------------------------------------------------ Name : openssh-clients Relocations: (not relocatable) Version : 4.3p2 Vendor: CentOS Release : 72.el5_7.5 Build Date: Tue 30 Aug 2011 12:34:14 AM BST Install Date: Sun 06 Nov 2011 12:51:04 AM GMT Build Host: builder10.centos.org Group : Applications/Internet Source RPM: openssh-4.3p2-72.el5_7.5.src.rpm Size : 871132 License: BSD Signature : DSA/SHA1, Fri 02 Sep 2011 01:13:01 AM BST, Key ID a8a447dce8562897 URL : http://www.openssh.com/portable.html Summary : The OpenSSH client applications ------------------------------------------------------ Name : openssh-server Relocations: (not relocatable) Version : 4.3p2 Vendor: CentOS Release : 72.el5_7.5 Build Date: Tue 30 Aug 2011 12:34:14 AM BST Install Date: Sun 06 Nov 2011 12:51:04 AM GMT Build Host: builder10.centos.org Group : System Environment/Daemons Source RPM: openssh-4.3p2-72.el5_7.5.src.rpm Size : 492478 License: BSD Signature : DSA/SHA1, Fri 02 Sep 2011 01:13:01 AM BST, Key ID a8a447dce8562897 URL : http://www.openssh.com/portable.html Summary : The OpenSSH server daemon ------------------------------------------------------ However, I've since got things working by killing the process and starting afresh, as suggested by @Henry below, so perhaps I am no longer seeing the same thing.
