• How to improve Windows Aero desktop performance?

  Sincerely I don't understand why in Windows Experience ratings, the "Game Graphics" in my pc is 5.0 and "Graphic Elements" (windows aero desktop performance) is 3.9. How it is possible? My VGA is nice for games but bad for Windows Desktop? What I can do to improve windows aero desktop performance?

• Unlimited and multi-computer online storage solutions with automatic backup

  As the title says, what are the existing online storage solutions that provide: unlimited storage automatic backup and allow for an unlimited number of computers (use not tied to a single computer)? There are several existing questions on this site related to online storage solutions, but none that is specifically targeted to what I want, so I thought I'd ask the question. This wikipedia article lists some of them, are there others? How do they compare in terms of price, feature set and ease of use? Update: Kinda disappointed no one has any answers to this so far. JungleDisk looks promising, anyone have experience with it? Update 2: To answer the comments, what I'm looking for definitely DOES exist. These solutions all seem to fit the bill: BackMii CrashPlan DataPreserve Humyo JungleDisk KeepVault SpiderOak And some of them are quite cheap (CrashPlan is $100 a year). For unlimited space and computers, I'd say that's pretty good. Does anyone have experience with CrashPlan or any other of the above solutions?

  My EEE PC's battery is not being detected since this morning. The battery indicator doesn't turn on, Power Options in Windows doesn't detect a battery either. Apart from removing the battery and plugging it back again (which I already did), what can I do??

• How can I install the latest full version of Canon ZoomBrowser EX without the original CD?

  ZoomBrowser EX comes with Canon cameras. Canon software enigeering team did a really poor job analyzing how people are using the software: people do lose their x-year old CD or do not have it with them when travelling do not have a CD drive at all (very common nowdays) Canon updater from their website does not allow you to install the software if it does not find the original CD in the drive. The question is how do I trick the installer to run on a computer and install the product that I payed for. Currently the latest version is 6.5.1.15 and you can download the updater from Canon website. In fact the updater is just the full installer but it doesn't allow you to install if it doesn't find a previous install or the original CD. Note: In the past I used to save a registry file with registry keys used by it, loading it did allowed me to run the installer but now, with Windows 7 x64 it seams that it doesn't work anymore.

  Hi there. I'm taking my first steps in to the world of Wicket. I've set up a login form and a logout page. The logout page looks like this: public class LogoutPage extends WebPage { public LogoutPage(final PageParameters pageParams) { getSession().invalidate(); setResponsePage(getApplication().getHomePage()); } } When a user clicks the Logout link they're redirected to the homepage, so far so good. The problem is that when a user tries to click on any of the navigatable Link's they get a "Page Expired" message. I'd like to log the user out gracefully and allow the user to continue to browse the website without receiving the "Page Expired" message. Any help is greatly appreciated. By the way, I've tried to follow the Wicket examples but they seem to be using org.apache.wicket.authentication and I haven't figured out how to make this available to my project (I'm using eclipse and maven2).

• Buying replacement Macbook Pro Battery - Genuine vs. eBay

  I'm looking to replace my Macbook Pro's battery (15", last model before the Unibody). It's currently at 55% capacity (as reported in System Information and Battery Health Monitor). I've reset the SMC firmware, calibrated the battery, and it's just not lasting that long anymore. I've seen some genuine replacements that are "pulls" (pulled from used computers) that are rated at least 90% capacity (iFixit, MacSales). I've also seen a variety of batteries on eBay that look more like clones than genuine batteries, but are new. A new battery from Apple is $129, and when I brought my laptop in they ran the Battery test and said if I bought the battery right then they'd give me a discount (around $100). Anyone out there used one of these "OEM Compatible" batteries? Fit/finish good? (I don't want a funky color or a corner that sticks out.) Or, should I just suck it up and get the genuine replacement (for about twice the price)?

It will start, (i.e. it will start a screen session) but in order to run byobu-config and probably in order to do some other things I need a module called snack which apparently is part of python newt. pip search newt and pip search snack return no results. newt and snack aren't in MacPorts or Brew either. I haven't found anything online in my searching with respect to installing newt on Mac OS X. Has anyone else been able to install byobu and newt in Mac OS X?

I bought a 500W Antec EarthWatts However, last year I bought a Kill-A-Watt power meter to test some things around our house and found that my PC was only using 80W of power while idle! (C2Q, 4GB RAM, SATA HD, & DVD burner) Well, here I am building another computer with a 65watt Core 2 CPU in it and I'm wondering if I can skimp out this time and get a 300watt or so unit since my usage doesn't seem to be what everyone claims it is. I'm sure that the people in the reviews who exhausted 500watt PSU weren't lying - so what is it that uses all that? The high-end dual SLI video cards? Lots of SATA drives? Overclocking?

• How to compare old laptop to new laptop?

  I hope this question doesn't get closed at once :) I have an old laptop, a Compaq NC4200, which is going its final laps around the track these days. Battery is dead, and everything kinda runs slow. It also has only 1GB of memory, and even though I don't know if it can take more, I probably wouldn't be able to get hold of any that matches without having to special order it. The size, however, has been ideal for my usage pattern, so I'm looking to replace it with a similarly sized laptop, at least in the same size category. However, it's been a while since I tried keeping track of CPUs, so I have a question. The old laptop has a Intel Pentium M 760 1.86GHz processor. One laptop I found online has a Intel Pentium SU4100 1.3GHz dual-core. This type of processor seems to be quite common in the price and size-range I've been looking. What kind of relative performance boost could I expect from the old one to the new one? I am not expecting a "about 7.45x speed", but some indication would be nice. For instance, dual-core tells me it might be akin to 2.6GHz, but I assume I can't simply compare 1.86GHz to 2.6GHz and expect the new one to run about 1.4x as fast, I expect more these days. Or is that unrealistic for this kind of processor? Do I need to up my price range and go for a 2+ GHz processor?

• Unable to delete a file using bash script

  I'm having problems removing a file in a bash script. I saw the other post with the same problem but none of those solutions solved my problem. The bash script is an OP5 surveillance check and it calls an Expect process that saves a temporary file to the local drive which the bash script reads from. Once it has read the file and checked its status I would like to remove the temporary file. I'm pretty new to scripting so my script may not be as optimal as it can be. Either way it does the job except removing the file once it's done. • Can´t install OS from usb flash drive

  My previous problem was describe here: Can't boot OS from USB drive, showing black screen with blinking cursor and there are informations about my laptot. So please look there and then read rest here. I changed flash drive and it fix the problem but now when I boot to Ubuntu (or I tried Fedora, it do same) I can´t install system. I click on Install Ubuntu 10.10 I choose language, then on next window I click Forward but it just show waiting cursor and nothing happen (same Fedora). It doesn´t freeze so I can end install and I can take printscreen (when I was taking the screen, cursor was shown as waiting, not normal as in picture, it´s weird). Image where my installation ends I think there is some problem with Disk and Volumes and so. But I used chkdsk from W7 on boot and It said everything all right and I try utility in Ubuntu and check file system and it is all right too.Image with my Disk (Volumes and other things) I hope someone helps me. • How to mount a LOFS in Solaris that doesn’t cross mountpoints

  I need to access my "root" ZFS dataset to delete a file under "/var". But "/var" is overlayed by another ZFS dataset. Since these are system datasets I can't "umount" them while the machine is running. And I want to avoid to reboot the system in "failsafe" mode, since this is a production machine. Teorically ZFS would refuse to mount "/var" dataset over the underlying "/var", because it is not empty. But it works, possibly because they are system datasets mounted early in the boot process. But having the underlying "/var" not empty is preventing me to create an ABE (Alternate Boot Environment), so patching is risky, and I can't upgrade my system using Live Upgrade. The machine is remote. I have an IP KVM, but I rather prefer to avoid booting this machine in "failsafe" mode, if I can. I know there is a file in "/var/" because I can snapshot the "root" dataset and check it. But snapshots are read-only, so I can't get rid of the file. I tried "mkdir /tmp/zzz; mount -F lofs / /tmp/zzz", but when I go to "/tmp/zzz/var", I see the "/var" dataset, not the underlying "root" dataset. That is, the LOFS is crossing mountpoints. I would usually like it, but not this time!. Any suggestion, beside rebooting the machine in "failsafe" and mess with it thru the IP KVM?

• FTP corrupting subsequent aiff files from old mac to new mac

  This is a bizarre one. So I am trying to xfer files from an old mac to a new mac, but the old one has no USB, no firewire, just ethernet. So I hooked it up the the network, downloaded fetch and started a FTP server. The first file transfers fine, but all the subsequent ones are corrupted. I can reconnect and transfer a new file and it works, but every file afterwards is corrupted, somehow. I tried forcing binary transfer, but that didn't help. Any ideas? From System 8.6 Osx 10.7.5

• dual boot xp/xp, now win7/xp getting no xp

  I have a laptop on which I have two drives with separate XP installs, one barebones for music production, the other "normal" XP with Office etc. (Unfortunately the bios won't give a boot disk choice) Normally I would be presented with two WinXPs on booting. Selecting the second one would get me into the "normal installation on disk 1 (C).Selecting the first in boot order would give me D: (disk 2) withe barebones XP. However, I installed Windows 7 Home onto disk 1 (C:), but there were no dual boot options anymore, even though I installed DualBoot Pro and added WinXP disk D:. The options now show show up, but seletcing Win XP just turns into a reboot back to where I started. Any help would be much appreciated
