  • Troubleshooting source of heavy resource-usage on a server 2008 running multiple sites

    Hi, I am running about 10 asp.net websites on a hosted virtual server. The server runs Server 2008 - each website is backed by its own database running on SQL server 2008 on the same box. Lately the box has seemed really slow. The only kind of discovery i could think of doing was looking in the task manager, where i can see w3wp and sqlserver.exe jumping to 40% cpu usage every 5-10 seconds. What are the steps i can take to determine which of my websites is taking these resources and or what database is getting hit the most? I have of course ssms installed on the machine as well. As you can tell, my sysadmin skills are very very limited - any help would be much appreciated.

    In the installation documentation to RoR it mentions that there are many limitations to running Ruby on Rails on Windows, and in some cases, whole libraries do not work. How bad are these limitations, should I always default to Linux to code / run RoR, and is Iron Ruby expected to fix these limitations or are they core to the OS itself? EDIT Thanks for the answer around installation and running on Linux, but I am really trying to understand the limitations in functionality as referenced in the installation documentation, and non-working libraries - I am trying to find a link to the comment, but it was referenced in an installation read me when I installed the msi package I think

    For Visual Studio 6.0, I can connect to a running instance like: o = GetActiveObject("MSDev.Application") What prog ID do I use for Visual Studio 2003? How do I execute a 'Build Solution' once I have the COM object that references the VS2003 instance? How do I get the string contents of the build output window after executing the build solution command? Yes, I am aware that I can build a solution from the command line.   • Watin from TeamCity not running as a Windows Service

    I'm trying to run Watin from within a TeamCity build, using nUnit. All tests run fine locally. I know you cannot run the full Watin tests (i.e. POST) from TeamCity if it is running as a Windows Service. You must start the build agent from a .bat file. But, I don't want to have to login to the server for it to start. I've tried getting a Scheduled Task (in Windows Server 2008) to fire the agent.bat file on StartUp (not Login), but with no luck. Has anyone else got Watin/TeamCity running from a Scheduled Task? Thanks, Pete

    I am currently running a simple EJB application using a stateless Session Bean. I am working on NetBeans 6.8 with Personal Glassfish 3.0 and I have installed on my system both the Java EE and the Java SE. I don't know whether it is relevent but I am running Windows7 64-bit version. The Session Bean I implemented has just one method sayHello(); which just prints hello on the screen.     I have a script that listens to a jabber server and responds accordingly. Though it's not supposed to stop, last night it did. Now I want to run a cron job every minute to check if the script is running, and start it if not. The question is, how do I check if a particular script is still running? Some solutions have been posted here, but those are all for Linux, while I am looking for a Windows solution. Any ideas please? Thanks.

    I have some VBA code that needs to talk to a running c# application. For what it's worth, the c# application runs as a service, and exposes an interface via .net remoting. I posted a question regarding a specific problem I'm having already (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2556163/from-vb6-to-net-via-com-and-remoting-what-a-mess) but I think I may have my structure all wrong... So I'm taking a step back - what's the best way to go about doing this?     Hi! I'm running Tomcat inside of Netbeans. I added Tomcat server(not bundled with Netbeans) to Servers in Netbeans. But, when i'm trying to run Tomcat, it starts(i can visit Tomcat home page), but Netbeans can't find it running. Where is the problem? No stacktrace in Tomcat. When i'm deploying my project`s war in this Tomcat manually, everything works, but i need to deploy it automatically from Netbeans. Configuration: Netbeans 6.8 + Tomcat 6.0.26 + JSF and Hibernate project.

  • Starting x11vnc remotely when X server is already running

    I have a ubuntu linux machine that I have already logged into and X server is running (it is pass the login manager like gdm). I can access this machine through ssh. My goal is to start x11vnc on this machine and attach it to the X server that is already running. When I ssh into the machine and start x11vnc, it says: X11 was unable to open the X DISPLAY ":0", it cannot continue. How can I start x11vnc on the remote machine if I don't have physical access to it and Xserver has already started.     I have the following table (test_table): date value --------------- d1 10.0 d1 20.0 d2 60.0 d2 10.0 d2 -20.0 d3 40.0 I calculate the running total as follows. I use the same query twice, because first I need to calculate the values for a specifi date, and afterwards I can calculate the running total. Otherwise, joining the two tables where date is not unique, I would get too many results from the join: SELECT t1.date, SUM(t2.value) AS total FROM (SELECT date, SUM(value) AS value FROM test_table GROUP BY date) AS t1 JOIN (SELECT date, SUM(value) AS value FROM test_table GROUP BY date) AS t2 ON t1.date >= t2.date GROUP BY t1.date ORDER BY t1.date This gives me (which is fine): date total ------------- d1 30.0 d2 80.0 d3 120.0 BUT, this query isn't very efficient, because I need to change conditions in two places, if necessary. In production, the test_table is a lot bigger ( 4 Mio. rows), and the query takes too much time to complete. Question: How can I avoid using the same query twice?

    I'm running Snow Leopard, and installed a custom built Ruby according to the guide here: http://hivelogic.com/articles/compiling-ruby-rubygems-and-rails-on-snow-leopard . My ruby binary lives in usr/local/bin/ruby and my gems are installed in /usr/local/bin/gem . My gem env looks like so: RUBY VERSION: 1.8.7 (2008-08-11 patchlevel 72) [universal-darwin10.0] - INSTALLATION DIRECTORY: /Library/Ruby/Gems/1.8 - RUBY EXECUTABLE: /System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/1.8/usr/bin/ruby - EXECUTABLE DIRECTORY: /usr/bin I think I may have borked the install since all actions taked on gems give the error: ERROR: While executing gem ... (Errno::EEXIST) File exists - /usr/local/bin/ruby How do you edit the environment variables for the gem environment? And for those of you on OS X and using ruby AND gems, what did you use to get yourself up and running? I'm thinking of just nuking everything and starting anew.

  • Prevent OCUnit tests from running when compilation fails

    I'm using Xcode 3.2.2 and the built in OCUnit test stuff. One problem I'm running into is that every time I do a build my unit tests are run, even if the build failed. Let's say I make a syntax error in one of my tests. The test fails to compile and the last successful compilation of the unit tests are run. The same thing happens if one of the dependent targets fail to build - the tests are still run. Which is obviously not what I want. How can I prevent the tests from running if the build fails? If this is not possible then I'd rather have the tests never run automatically, is that possible? Sorry if this is obvious, I'm an Xcode noob. Should I be using a better unit testing framework?

  • Mysqld Crashes immediately on running on Windows 7...?

    I am trying to run MySql 5.1 on Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. I have downloaded the MSI installer from the MYSql website and installed it. The installation is successful, but the service does not start. If I try to run MySql manually using the mysqld executable, it crashes immediately on running (error: mysqld.exe has stopped working). Earlier mysql was running on the machine, but I had some problem with it (wasn't executing big queries) and installed it again which somehow broke the program. I had installed it to work as a service which started giving me this isse, and now it won't work even if I don't install it as a service. I have tried removing the mysql folder and re-installing. Is there somewhere else where Mysql saves configuration info or other data? Has anyone else found this problem and solved it? How can I find out why the process is failing to run?

So Client tracks changes it makes, pushes them to the Server. The server ensures that the clients is not updating out of sync objects and stores the clients changes. The Client can also sync with the Server so that it can see the changes made by other clients. The idea is that the client can be run offline, without access to the server and only come online to synchronize when needed.

  • trouble accessing localhost from ie7 running on parallels (win xp) on mac os x

    I'm running the app engine devserver on localhost:8080, and want to access it from ie7 running on parallels. I've tried all of the tips here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/61449/how-do-i-access-the-host-from-vmware-fusion And they seem like they should work, particularly accessing via the gateway ip address. I've also sudo ipfw add allow tcp from 8080 to 8089 for good measure. Still no dice. I can access the external internet from ie7. The connection settings on parallels are set to 'Shared networking'. I'm out of ideas.
