• How to stop a QDialog from executing while still in the __init__ statement(or immediatly after)?

  I am wondering how I can go about stopping a dialog from opening if certain conditions are met in its __init__ statement. The following code tries to call the 'self.close()' function and it does, but (I'm assuming) since the dialog has not yet started its event loop, that it doesn't trigger the close event? So is there another way to close and/or stop the dialog from opening without triggering an event?   Hi, I'm developing a web application that has to support lots of simultaneous requests, and I'd like to keep it fast enough. I have now to implement a logging strategy, I'm gonna use log4net, but ... what and how should I log? I mean: How logging impacts in performance? is it possible/recomendable logging using async calls? Is better use a text file or a database? Is it possible to do it conditional? for example, default log to the database, and if it fails, the switch to a text file. What about multithreading? should I care about synchronization when I use log4net? or it's thread safe out of the box? In the requirements appear that the application should cache a couple of things per request, and I'm afraid of the performance impact of that. Cheers.

• CSS height problem. IE8 seems correct Firefox seems wrong. Any fix?

  Below is a complete html page that shows the problem. The "myDiv" should be 22px in height (including the border). Item 1 should have a 1px space between its border and the divs border. In IE8 it is. In FF 3.6.2 though it is 24px and I can't understand why. Ultimately my goal is to get the same CSS to create the same result in both browsers. It's driving me crazy! • NSStepper ignores current NSTextField value

  I have the same initial problem as described in Integrate NSStepper with NSTextField: I need to have a NSTextField working with a NSStepper as being one control so that I can edit an integer value either by changing it directly on the text field or using the stepper up/down arrows. Using bindings as commented on by carlosb results in a usable UI. However, in the initial question carlosb describes the following: Problem is that if I edit the text field then click the stepper again it will forget about the value I manually edited and use the stepper's internal value. This is why I am posting a variation on this question again. carlosb's use of bindings doesn't solve this problem. This happens in both the current project I am working on and a test project I have created. The test project can be found at GitHub. You can download it there (even without git) via the "Download Source" button in the top right. Is there a clean way to solve this issue?

  I'm trying to use the jQuery $.inArray function to iterate through an array and if there's an element whose text contains a particular keyword, remove that element. $.inArray is only returning the array index though if the element's text is equal to the keyword. For example given the following array named 'tokens': - tokens {...} Object [0] "Starbucks^25^http://somelink" String [1] "McDonalds^34^" String [2] "BurgerKing^31^https://www.somewhere.com" String And a call to removeElement(tokens, 'McDonalds'); would return the following array: - tokens {...} Object [0] "Starbucks^25^http://somelink" String [1] "BurgerKing^31^https://www.somewhere.com" String I'm guessing this may be possible using the jQuery $.grep or $.each function, or maybe regex. However, I'm not familiar enough with jQuery to accomplish this. Any help would be appreciated!

  I'm working with Dojo and using the "Module Pattern" as described in Mastering Dojo. So far as I can see this pattern is a general, and widely used, JavaScript pattern. My question is: How do we debug our modules? So far I've not been able to persuade Firebug to show me the source of my module. Firebug seems to show only the dojo eval statement used to execute the factory method. Hence I'm not able to step through my module source. I've tried putting "debugger" statements in my module code, and Firebug seems to halt correctly, but does not show the source. Contrived example code below.   In my project i have a lot of css styles. Some of them are never used (not anymore). I check this manually with eclipse: i select text and then with "Search - Text - Project" i can find, if this style occurs only in the stylesheet or also in java files. Is there better way to check, which styles are currently used in my GWT project? edit: @Igor,Keith: thanks for the hint, but i'm not using the CssResource to insert my css file. Instead i use my index.html. And i want to remove the unused styles just for better overview. CssResource is not exactly, what i'm looking for.

• ASP.NET MVC 2 RC2 Model Binding with NVARCHAR NOT NULL column

  I have a database column defined as NVARCHAR(1000) NOT NULL DEFAULT(N'') - in other words, a non-nullable text column with a default value of blank. I have a model class generated by the Linq-to-SQL Classes designer, which correctly identifies the property as not nullable. I have a TextAreaFor in my view for that property. I'm using UpdateModel in my controller to fetch the value from the form and populate the model object. If I view the web page and leave the text area blank, UpdateModel insists on setting the property to NULL instead of empty string. (Even if I set the value to blank in code prior to calling UpdateModel, it still overwrites that with NULL). Which, of course, causes the subsequent database update to fail. I could check all such properties for NULL after calling UpdateModel, but that seems ridiculous - surely there must be a better way? Please don't tell me I need a custom model binder for such a simple scenario...!

• How can I make a jQuery UI 'draggable()' div draggable for touchscreen?

  I have a jQuery UI draggable() that works in Firefox and Chrome. The user interface concept is basically click to create a "post-it" type item. Basically, I click or tap on div#everything (100% high and wide) that listens for clicks, and an input textarea displays. You add text, and then when you're done it saves it. You can drag this element around. That is working on normal browsers, but on an iPad I can test with I can't drag the items around. If I touch to select (it then dims slightly), I can't then drag it. It won't drag left or right at all. I can drag up or down, but I'm not dragging the individual div, I'm dragging the whole webpage. I'm not set on jQuery UI, I'm wondering if this is something I'm doing wrong with jQuery UI, or jQuery, or whether there may be better frameworks for doing cross-platform/backward compatible draggable() elements that will work for touchscreen UIs. More general comments about how to write UI components like this would be welcome as well. Thanks!

It does expand to show 1 item but after I add the second item it doesn't expand any more. You can see here after I added a second picture row to the listview, it's not visible.

• Displaying FontFamily in Combobox

  Hi. My goal is to manipulate the text-styles of my application via DependencyProperties. I got a diagram in which the texts are to be manipulated in size, fontfamily, color, etc. So I'd like to use an interface similar to a rich text editor like Word. I'm using this code in my TextStyleVM http://shevaspace.blogspot.com/2006/12/i-have-some-fun-with-formattedtext_14.html So I have a FontFamilyProperty and a Getter and Setter for it: public static DependencyProperty FontFamilyProperty = DependencyProperty.Register( "FontFamily", typeof(FontFamily), typeof(OutlinedText), new FrameworkPropertyMetadata( SystemFonts.MessageFontFamily, FrameworkPropertyMetadataOptions.AffectsRender | FrameworkPropertyMetadataOptions.AffectsMeasure), new ValidateValueCallback(IsValidFontFamily)); public FontFamily FontFamily { get { return (FontFamily)base.GetValue(FontFamilyProperty); } set { base.SetValue(FontFamilyProperty, value); } } Then there is a ToStyle method, which sets the style for the labels of the diagram, which are to be manipulated: Style style = new Style(); Binding fontFamilyBinding = new Binding("FontFamily"); fontFamilyBinding.Source = this; Setter fontFamilySetter = new Setter(); fontFamilySetter.Property = TextBlock.FontFamilyProperty; fontFamilySetter.Value = fontFamilyBinding; style.Setters.Add(fontFamilySetter); return style; Now this works for a TextBox. The textbox displays the current FontFamily, and if I enter a new, valid FontFamily like Arial into the textbox the FontFamily of the labels are changed. However, what I'd like to have is a combobox, which displays the SystemFonts and where I can choose one FontFamily for my labels. However, the binding doesn't seem to work. Neither the system fonts nor the current fonts of the labels are displayed. The combobox is just empty. So is this the wrong place to start at? I'd also be grateful if someone could hint me to some documentation about using these Style-, Setter-, Binding-key-words, which are used in the ToStyle method, since this is somebody elses code I'm working with.

• FileSystemWatcher Changed event is raised twice

  I have an application where I am looking for a text file and if there are any changes made to the file I am using the OnChanged eventhandler to handle the event. I am using the NotifyFilters.LastWriteTime but still the event is getting fired twice. Here is the code. public void Initialize() { FileSystemWatcher _fileWatcher = new FileSystemWatcher(); _fileWatcher.Path = "C:\\Folder"; _fileWatcher.NotifyFilter = NotifyFilters.LastWrite; _fileWatcher.Filter = "Version.txt"; _fileWatcher.Changed += new FileSystemEventHandler(OnChanged); _fileWatcher.EnableRaisingEvents = true; } private void OnChanged(object source, FileSystemEventArgs e) { ....... } In my case the OnChanged is called twice, when I change the text file version.txt and save it.
