• Extending Zend_Log for application-specific need

  I am building a Zend Framework application that performs jobs submitted by the user. The actions taken need to be logged to a database. I would like to correlate the job with its log entries. Instead of creating my own logging class, I would like to extend Zend_Log since it provides 99% of the functionality that I need. All I need to do is add a foreign key of the job id to the log data model. Is this possible? I'm also looking for a good example of Zend_Log writing to a database. I haven't searched SO yet. • drawbacks of storing all ''things' in a central table

  Hi, I am not sure if there is a term to describe this, but I have observed that content management systems store all kinds of data in a single table with their bare minimum properties while the meta data is stored in another table in form of key value pairs. for eg. everything (blog posts, pages, images, events etc) is stored in one table and considered as a post. I understand that this allows for abstraction and easy extensibility we are considering designing our new project this way. It is not exactly a CMS but we plan to keep adding modules to it in stages. Lets say initially there will be only posts and images on which comments can be posted. Later on we might add videos which will also have the commenting feature. what are the drawbacks of this approach ? and will it work for a requirement like ours ? Thanks

• Firebug: how do I see GET parameters?

  I'm using Firebug on Firefox 3.6.3 for Mac. I want to use Firebug to view GET and POST parameters being passed. I have Firebug open at the Net XHR tab. The panel says 'Net panel activated'. Yet if I then go to google.com and do a search, nothing appears in the XHR tab. (All the HTML, CSS etc appears fine in the other tabs.) Where can I see the GET parameters being passed to Google in Firebug?

  Im´trying to submit a form without refreshing the page, but I´m having a problem. When I click submit the page refreshes and anothing gets posted. Here is the code, what am I doing wrong?   some of you will say that this post is not programming related, i think it is! i developed a WebApplication that uses several 3rd party controls using asp.net (c#). i did not buy any license for the 3rd party controls that i am using because i am a freelancer and the controls are too much expensive for me to buy. i already sold the application to several mini-companies that don't care about the license issue. so my question: is it possible that i get sued or caught because of this crime? if yes, then how can they know who am i?

• jQuery dialog box not opening 2nd time

  I found this thread which basically has the same issue I have. But their solution is not working for me. The dialog appears the first time I click the submit button, but not the 2nd time. I'm opening the dialog box after a form submission. UPDATE I finally got it working.   I was looking at the post here which says When the browser makes a request for a static image and sends cookies together with the request, the server doesn't have any use for those cookies. So they only create network traffic for no good reason. Although I tend not to use cookies at all, my doubt is I used to think that the server creates the cookies to store the session varialbles etc and sends to the client. But this statement says the reverse of that. I don't quiet understand what is the need for the browser to create and send cookies with the request, to me it doesn't make any sense?. Can anyone please correct me? Thanks/.

• How can i allow people in my local network to access the web service in my machine?

  I have coded a web service using the Axis 2 framework and I can successfully invoke it using a test client (SoapUI) on the local machine after publishing the application in JBoss 5. I can post to the WS endpoint from the local machine and get the expected response. Now i want to allow other machines to access the web service. i changed the "localhost" to "my own fixed IP" adress at the end point location, and turned firewall off, but impossible to access the WS. Note : windows Xp SP3. Any idea ? Thanks in advance !!

• What scripting language would you use to put text over a generated image ?

  I got this question from my cousin: "What will be the best way to create a similar working website just like: http://www.plakletters.nl". I have looked into the website and think that to start of with i'm gonna help my cousin write a script that loads all fonts installed on the system into a dropdownlist. This dropdownlist will post a font value back to the page and will create images with the input of a user that comes from a textbox. This images will have to be created server side, and I also want to give the users the ability (in the future) to lay their own text over an uploaded image, to see what the result will look like on their own image. I found some information about how to create images using php, I don't know if php can output a list of installed fonts from the system it's running on. What scripting language would you use to get this job done? Keep in mind i would just like to start with outputting some images based on user input using a scripting language.

  Hi. In a MySQL database I have documents of different type: some have text content, meta keys, descriptions, others have code, SKU number, size and brand name and so on. The problem is, I have to search something in all of these documents and then display a single page, where the results will be grouped by the document type, such as help page, blog post, item... It's not clear for me how to implement the Sphinx index: I want to have a single index to speed up queries, but since different docs have different structure - how can I group them? I was thinking about just concatenating them, but it just doesn't feel right.

The problem is, if the first few chars match something and then you enter a char that should "break" any match, it just keeps the drop down in place with the results for the last matched char... make sense? Would this be something I needed to change in the script that returns the data or something in the jquery? thanks!

The API documentation is generalized to all platforms. Where are the iPhone specific requirements for arguments and their data types?   Hello, I have an MVC project where I have a form with fields a user can enter and save. On that same page I have a table which shows a brief listing of information that the user just saved. The problem I am having is trying to update only the table after a save and not an entire page refresh. Is this possible in jquery or MVC? If so does anyone have an example. • How to use LDAP for authentication in Tomcat with Custom Authorization

  Hello, I'm using JNDIRealm with Tomcat for authentication, which at the moment works fine. However, we do not store any roles in the LDAP, so all authenticated users are not returning any roles. This sends user's to an HTTP 401 failed authorization page. I'd like to assign an "Admin" role to any and all user's who authenticate successfully. Here is my fragment from my web.xml file. SecurityConstraint Resource Resource *.jsp GET POST Admin FORM login.jsp loginError.jsp Admin Should I be using a JAASRealm with custom LoginModule? After the realm calls the authenticate() method and returns success, should I override another method to explicitly set the RolePrincipal to "Admin" so that authorization succeeds? Please help!   I have another memset question. It appears as if the code I am editing may have some issues (or it's not done the same way in different files) A::LRM las[9]; //A and LRM are both structures with BOOLS and INTS memset(&las, 0, sizeof(las)); typedef Sec SecArray[16]; SecArray rad_array; memset(rad_array, 0, sizeof(SecArray)); The second example appears to be correct because rad_array is the same as the first position in the array. Then the sizeof(SecArray)) would make sense. The first one doesn't seem correct to me. All structs are just BOOLs and INTS nothing dynamic in them. My understanding from my other post about memset was that it followed this format. memset("pointer to object", "what to set it to", "size of object") Can anyone tell me what exactly is going on here if I am incorrect with my theory.

• Will I use HtmlDocument even I want to parse the HTML string using HtmlAglityPack ?

  Hi everyone, I'm working in C#. I'm trying to extract the first instance of img tag from a HTML string (which is actually a post data). This is my code: private string GrabImage(string htmlContent) { String firstImage; HtmlAgilityPack.HtmlDocument htmlDoc = new HtmlAgilityPack.HtmlDocument(); htmlDoc.LoadHtml(htmlContent); HtmlAgilityPack.HtmlNode imageNode = htmlDoc.DocumentNode.SelectSingleNode("//img"); if (imageNode != null) { return firstImage = imageNode.ToString(); } else return firstImage=" "; } But it gets null in htmlDoc, will I use the HtmlDocument type even if I'm trying to parse the HTML from a string ? P.S btw is it the correct way of grabbing the first instance of image tag from my HTML string?
