• Will URL encoding the image names

  Just wondering if it makes any difference to Google whether or not I URL encode the image names when linking to them. For example if I have an image named "test-1234-!.jpg", does it make a difference if I name it refer to it as "test-1234-%21.jpg"? The reason I am asking is because I am doing a major shift in the way my website works and while all new image names will not be URL encoded, all of the past ones are. I want to see if it is worth it renaming all of them or if I should just leave it like that.

What if the focus of the webmaster/client is 100% set on the quality of the content with precise keywords in meta tags, clean design, regular articles updates, clean URLs and highly filtered external links leading to pages on websites dealing on the same,or related subjects; isn't it the job of a good search engine like Google to catch this website and show it in its front-page ? Or does Search Engines count on us to help them find us, and webmasters will always have to be up-to-date regarding SEO tools and rules updates on top of websites' design, browsers customization, progressive enhancement etc ?

I run chromium and used this PPA: https://launchpad.net/~chromium-daily/+archive/stable I just realized that it seems to be abandoned and I'm running a quite outdated version of this browser. There have not been any updates since the first of May this year. Do you know of any PPA thats actively maintained? Thanks, trmpa (Yes, I know, I could use google chrome but i would like to go with chromium if possible. Building from source is also not a good option. It's not my own machine and I need updates to work reliably without much intervention from the user)

• Places to find free software projects who need developers/project managers?

  While I have plenty of project management "booksmarts" and a handful of PM experience, I don't seem to have enough experience to get the sort of job I want. Since "I read another PM book/blog today" doesn't really count, I was thinking I could find some free/open source software (FOSS) projects who are looking for/hiring project managers or developers and see if there was anything I could volunteer for. Does anyone know of any FOSS employment sites where I might be able to find such projects? Something similar to careers.stackoverflow.com. I know I could just go to sourceforge/freshmeat and look around, but I was hoping to find some site that fills this need (and if any such sites exist, my google-fu is apparently VERY weak at finding them).

  Hi how to redirect the user into mobile site when the user accessing from mobile. Say example i have site called www.mysite.com. Now, a person accessing a website from mobile it should redirect to www.mysite.com/mobile or www.m.mysite.com. I put some research in google that we can redirect using javascript to get the user agent(browser) if(mobile browser) { //redirect to www.mysite.com/mobile } else if(normal browser) { //redirect to www.mysite.com } or using screen resolution if(screen resolution < 800 ) { //redirect to www.mysite.com/mobile } else if(screen resolution > 800) { //redirect to www.mysite.com } I think It will not work If it is the case of javascript disable. Can we do this using .htaccess or php stuff? Is there any standard mechanism to do this?

• Exchange 2010 Deployment Notes &ndash; iPhone and Exchange ActiveSync issue

  After we moved one of our user mailboxes from Exchange 2003 to 2010, the user started getting a Cannot get mail. The connection to the server failed error message on their iPhone device. There are a lot of references on Google to check for inherited permissions to resolve the error message.  We quickly determined that we were not dealing with a permissions issue. After some additional troubleshooting and research, we were able to isolate the problem to a device partnership issue. To resolve the issue, use ADSI Edit to find the user object. When you find the user object, double-click on it and you should see a CN=ExchangeActiveSyncDevices container under the user object as shown below.  On the right-hand side, you should see one or more device partnerships.   Right-click the device partnership according to the device the user is using, and click Delete. After you remove the device partnership, please wait until Active Directory replication completes before you set up the device again.

• SEO: Joomla Category Page Optimization + Canonical Linking

  I'm wondering how best to optimize my Joomla site's SEO. I have pages with multiple articles on each page. Either via category-type pages, or via modules. In each case, I'm not wanting users to access the articles separately from the forward facing, menu-linked pages. I understand however that Joomla still generates a url for those articles, and Google can still crawl and display these articles separate from the pages. My question is what is the best way to control this so that my users get directed only to the front-facing pages? By using the canonical element for each article to point to the front-facing page it's on? Or is there a better method? Thanks for your help!

  I am about to launch a website that allows the end user to get alerted as their bus approches the stop. The only problem was this is a little expensive as I'm paying about 5 cents per alert. I was thinking that if i added a short message something like "brought to you by acme co" at the end of the message I may be able to recoup cost without making my service a paid one. Anyone know of any SMS ad companies or how one would go about finding one. Google has failed me, probably searching for the wrong thing.

  I'm helping a family member set up a site which will need to include a secure client portal, providing access to documents and a simple database. I have been encouraging them to go with a more established, open source CSM like drupal or joomla, whose capability in this area is evident. However, they have a strong preference for Squarespace. Does any one know if it would be possible to accomplish this with the new developer platform for squarespace 6? I've spent well over an hour searching google, the squarespace site and stackexchange, but can't seem to find any clear answer to this question. I'm grateful for any insight you all can provide.

  I have built my entire site using AJAX (indeed it's GWT). I have also implemented AJAX crawling proposed by Google. However, after the implementation, I found that neither Yahoo , Bing, nor Baidu implemented that scheme! I'm wondering if there is a way to identify the web client is a search robot. If they are, they will be shown the HTML snapshot I created. It will be best if I can identify them in APACHE level, then I can just do a mod_rewrite.   I'm planning to write/code one such stealth keylogger that would bypass detection by a certain antivirus. (I don't want to name the vendor as I know how good Google queries are against StackExchange websites). I don't want to just download any keylogger from internet and try to encode it to evade detection. It seems to me that a nice natural name for my library is JConverter, after browsing in the web to see if another library with the same name already exists, I found a library with the same name for Joomla. My concrete question is: How important is to avoid naming collisions when creating an open source library if an existing library with the chosen name already exists in a complete different domain ?   i'm having issues with the Software Center. I'm trying to install Google Chrome, but can't because the software center crashes as soon as it opens. I've looked around at similar topics and found plenty but none of the suggested solutions have worked, so I wonder if this is different. When I type 'software-center' into the terminal, I get the error that other's have had: softwarecenter.backend.reviews - WARNING - Could not get usefulness from server, no username in config file I know this might seem like a duplicate, but none of the solution worked. So I did the following and it's working fine now: sudo apt-get purge pulseaudio sudo apt-get autoremove sudo reboot After this I reinstalled pulseaudio via sudo apt-get install pulseaudio But now my icon in the gnome-panel is missing. After searching on google I found that that the sound-volume-applet ist missing. So is this right? And do you get the icon in the panel?

  I've followed the instructions on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Install, first doing the steps that lead to phablet-flash -b and then the manual ones. In both cases, I get stuck at the Google boot screen. It does not boot into Touch. No errors during manual install, and adb devices shows the device, but I get the following with phablet-flash or phablet-flash -b (second and subsequent times, not the first time): Device detected as /system/bin/sh: getprop: not found Unsupported device, autodetect fails device When working on flipped images, detection does not work and would require -d Not clear what that all means. The Nexus 4 had the initial Touch dev preview on it, FYI. I saw no separate instructions for upgrading from that.

  Once upon a time, I heard from someone the only difference between programming languages is the syntax I wanted to deny it - to say that there are other fundamental aspects that truly set a language apart from others than just syntax. But I couldn't... So, can you? Whenever I search Google for something like "differences between programming languages", the results tend to be debates between two specific languages (I'd like something more general) - however, some of the aspects that people seemed to debate the most were: Object-Oriented Method/Operator overloading (I actually see this rather related to syntax) Garbage-Collection (While it seems like a good difference, for some reason it doesn't seem that "fundamental") What important aspects other than syntax can you think of?

  I write a set of productivity tools that sells online and have tens of thousands of users. While we do get very good feedback, this tens to come from only the most vocal users, so we fear we might be missing the big picture. We would like to know if there is any off the shelf (or nearly so) solution to capture usage of different features and to report usage patterns and trends over time. Note: These tools are native apps, not web-based. I know about Google Analytics and the like. They're great, but I'm looking for native code solutions.
