• Dog-1 testing as a synonym for integration / system test

  In the company I'm working for the phrase Dog-1 is used for the software testing scenario where the first piece of data passes through the complete system. Has anyone heard this phrase in a similar context? There's nothing on Google about it in a software development context, so I'm guessing its a idiosyncrasy of my current environment. Is there a recognized phrase in the industry for this kind of test? I don't think it's simply a 'system test' / 'integration test' as 'Dog-1' refers specifically to the first item/unit through the system.

• System locks up at login after latest update on 12.04

  For starters, I am a noob when it comes to Ubuntu and Linux...but I am hopeful that I have the "light" and the error of my past MS ways :) ..... After a recent update last week from 12.04 to 12.04.1 my system now locks up at the login screen. Before the update the system would run but must admit it ran EXTREMELY slow. I have installed 12.04 on a Dell P4 2.4 Ghz, 2 GB DDR Ram, 80 GB IDE HD and an integrated Intel 3D Extreme Graphics. Any ideas on why now the system locking up at login screen? • How to make read-only file system writable?

  I am not sure since when the filesystem on my digital audio player has been changed to be read-only. I cannot copy files into it or remove files on it. Are there some possible reasons for the player's file system to change the permission of its file system? I tried chmod: $ sudo chmod a+rw SGTL\ MSCN/ chomd: changing permissions of `SGTL MSCN/': Read-only file system where "SGTL MSCN" is the mounted point of the digital audio player. I was wondering how to make it writable? Thanks and regards!

• Deactivate one graphicdevice in a SLI system

  As it is now, I have a Gaminglaptop with 2 GeForce 9800M GT with SLI activated, Ubuntu 12.04. When I use any graphicdriver that is aware of acceleration features the system crashes after a short period of time. After I removed and purged jockey my system runs stable but slowly, but I can use it for now (I have to choose recovery at startup and the resume boot, botting up normal results in a colorflickering screen). But since the system is runs slowly, I would like to try to work with only one graphicdevice. First test device A, if that doesn't work test with device B. A testing tool for Windows already told me, that one of the cards doesn't work properly, but it doesn't say which one (same crashes in Windows when programs or desktop uses acceleration). Therefore I wanted to ask, if there is a way to reinstall any nVidia (or third party) driver, deactivate one of the two devices and test the stability?

  I have installed Ubuntu Studio 13.10 installed on my system. Today I have rebooted it and now it is not starting or booting again, the logo is seen and there appears an error message that says :- [23.755113] systemd-udevd[329]: inotify_add_watch(6, /dev/sdb, 10) failed.   i am new at linux and ubuntu, today i installed ubuntu 12.04 but during installation some problem happened, i don't remember what was that exactly (but can tell you that it was related to boot), so i reinstalled ubuntu (using usb stick both time) and ubuntu installation finished successfully, Now problem is that when I start my computer then system is directly selecting ubuntu as my operating system, i have installed it along with windows 7 in option during installation, so it should give me option to select which operating system i want to use. I don't know what may be the problem. Also, I want to know where ubuntu is installed (which directory)? i just selected default setting during installation as i am noob in these things.

• System update and now no wireless connection in Ubuntu 10.04

  I'm running an older version of Ubuntu (10.04), and updated yesterday through the update manager. The system informed me I needed to restart, so I did, then immediately shut down the system and went to work. When I rebooted later in the evening, I couldn't connect to my wireless router. I could find my connection and had the passcode and all that usual business, but could this be a kernel or driver issue caused by the update? If so, how can I fix it? I've attempted to go through the troubleshooter, but to no avail. Additionally, I put off upgrading to the next stage of Ubuntu for so long that I can no longer prompt the system to ask me if I'd like to. Any way to change this?

I also find myself scrolling to the top to add the using when I first add System.Linq. • Empty Disk when trying to install dual-boot system

  I recently purchased an SSD to speed up my computer experience. Before, I had Windows 7 and Ubuntu in a dual-boot system. The plan was to install Windows 8 on the SSD and then set aside ~30GB for the system files of Ubuntu. I installed Windows 8 just fine on the SSD, then I booted the Ubuntu install CD to make my partitions like always - but GParted tells me the entire SSD is unallocated. Now I am afraid I will lose my Windows installation if I try to do anything to it. Why does GParted think there is no partition on the SSD? Shouldn't it be 4 Partitions, like the Windows installer told me? And is it possible to ignore this and install Ubuntu on the hard disk (where it, frankly, already is) and somehow make it possible to install GRUB on the SSD to revert my dual-boot system without damaging the installed Win8?

• Wrong EFI System Partition GUID?

  On a new GPT initialized disk (second PC disk) I created a FAT32 partition using gparted. I want to use it as an EFI System Partition so I flagged it as boot. After that I checked the UUID using the gparted “partition information” option and it reported: 09B1-97A5. As far as I understand it should be C12A7328-F81F-11D2-BA4B-00A0C93EC93B. I also checked my running operative system disk (Ubuntu 14) and found that Gparted reports EB78-9AD2 for my actual boot partition UUID. What exactly is gparted reporting as UUID on my EFI system partition and why it doesn’t match with the expected C12A7328-F81F-11D2-BA4B-00A0C93EC93B ID?

• Drawing a TextBox in an extended Glass Frame w/o WPF

  I am trying to draw a TextBox on the extended glass frame of my form. I won't describe this technique, it's well-known. Here's an example for those who haven't heard of it: http://www.danielmoth.com/Blog/Vista-Glass-In-C.aspx The thing is, it is complex to draw over this glass frame. Since black is considered to be the 0-alpha color, anything black disappears. There are apparently ways of countering this problem: drawing complex GDI+ shapes are not affected by this alpha-ness. After lots of Googling, I came up with the following solutions: Subclassing the TextBox's OnPaint method. This is possible, although I could not get it to work properly. It should involve painting some magic things I don't know how to do yet. Making my own custom TextBox, perhaps on a TextBoxBase. If anyone has good, valid and working examples, and thinks this could be a good overall solution, please tell me. Using BufferedPaintSetAlpha. (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms649805.aspx). The downsides of this method may be that the corners of the textbox might look odd, but I can live with that. If anyone knows how to implement that method properly from a Graphics object, please tell me. I personally don't, but this seems the best solution so far. • Insane Graphics.lineStyle behavior

  Hi all, I'd like some help with a little project of mine. Background: i have a little hierarchy of Sprite derived classes (5 levels starting from the one, that is the root application class in Flex Builder). Width and Height properties are overriden so that my class always remembers it's requested size (not just bounding size around content) and also those properties explicitly set scaleX and scaleY to 1, so that no scaling would ever be involved. After storing those values, draw() method is called to redraw content. Drawing: Drawing is very straight forward. Only the deepest object (at 1-indexed level 5) draws something into this.graphics object like this: var gr:Graphics = this.graphics; gr.clear(); gr.lineStyle(0, this.borderColor, 1, true, LineScaleMode.NONE); gr.beginFill(0x0000CC); gr.drawRoundRectComplex(0, 0, this.width, this.height, 10, 10, 0, 0); gr.endFill(); Further on: There is also MouseEvent.MOUSE_WHEEL event attached to the parent of the object that draws. What handler does is simply resizes that drawing object. Problem: Screenshot When resizing sometimes that hairline border line with LineScaleMode.NONE set gains thickness (quite often even 10 px) + it quite often leaves a trail of itself (as seen in the picture above and below blue box (notice that box itself has one px black border)). When i set lineStile thickness to NaN or alpha to 0, that trail is no more happening. I've been coming back to this problem and dropping it for some other stuff for over a week now. Any ideas anyone? P.S. Grey background is that of Flash Player itself, not my own choise.. :D

• Plotting an Arc in Discrete Steps

  Good afternoon, Background My question relates to the plotting of an arbitrary arc in space using discrete steps. It is unique, however, in that I am not drawing to a canvas in the typical sense. The firmware I am designing is for a gcode interpreter for a CNC mill that will translate commands into stepper motor movements. Now, I have already found a similar question on this very site, but the methodology suggested (Bresenham's Algorithm) appears to be incompatable for moving an object in space, as it only relies on the calculation of one octant of a circle which is then mirrored about the remaining axes of symmetry. Furthermore, the prescribed method of calculation an arc between two arbitrary angles relies on trigonometry (I am implementing on a microcontroller and would like to avoid costly trig functions, if possible) and simply not taking the steps that are out of the range. Finally, the algorithm only is designed to work in one rotational direction (e.g. counterclockwise). Question So, on to the actual question: Does anyone know of a general-purpose algorithm that can be used to "draw" an arbitrary arc in discrete steps while still giving respect to angular direction (CW / CCW)? The final implementation will be done in C, but the language for the purpose of the question is irrelevant. Thank you in advance. • efficient android rendering

  I've read quite a few tutorials on game programming on android, and all of them provide basically the same solution as to drawing the game, that is having a dedicated thread spinning like this: public void run() { while(true) { if(!surfaceHolder.getSurface().isValid()) continue; Canvas canvas = surfaceHolder.lockCanvas(); drawGame(canvas); /* do actual drawing here */ surfaceHolder.unlockCanvasAndPost(canvas); } } now I'm wondering, isn't this wasteful? Suppose I've a game with very simple graphics, so that the actual time in drawGame is little; then I'm going to draw the same things on and on, stealing cpu from the other threads; a possibility could be skipping the drawing and sleeping a bit if the game state hasn't changed, which I could check by having the state update thread mantaining a suitable status flag. But maybe there are other options. For example, couldn'it be possible to synchronize with rendering, so that I don't post updates too often? Or am I missing something and that is precisely what lockCanvas does, that is it blocks and burns no cpu until proper time? Thanks in advance L.

  Hi all, I'm quite new to drawing shapes, graphics, bitmaps etc. I googled for a few days,but still havent got a real clue what to do, so please help me: I want to draw a floorplan with certain objects(represented as circles) moving on it. When I click on a object, it needs to show something. So far, I ve been able to draw some circles on a graphic and been able to move the dots by clearing the graphic every time. Ofcourse, this isnt a real solution, since I cant keep track of the different objects on the floorplan (which i need for my clickevent and movings). I hope I explained my problem ok here. • How would you update 100+ variables if something is changed in a different class?

  I have a class Grid which produces a graph paper like grid on in the drawing area. I then have 5 other classes for different shapes to draw with; Line, Polygon, Ellipse, Curve, Arc Now, these 5 classes use an instance of Grid because Grid has a resolution and a scale. For instance, Polygon is made up of multiple instances of Line, Line(length, angle) where "length" is in either in, ft, cm, or m. If the user wishes to change the scale from say 10ft per 100px resolution.. Is there an easier way than re-drawing every Line inside Polygon?

• UITableViewCell with custom gradient background, with another gradient as highlight color

  I have a custom UITableViewCell with a custom layout. I wanted a gradient background, so in my UITableViewDelegate cellForRowAtIndexPath: method, I create a CAGradientLayer and add it to the cell's layer with insertSubLayer:atIndex: (using index 0). This works just fine except for two things: Most importantly, I can't figure out how to change to a different gradient color when the row is highlighted. I have tried a couple things, but I'm just not familiar enough with the framework to get it working. Where would be the ideal place to put that code, inside the table delegate or the cell itself? Also, there's a 1px white space in between each cell in the table. I have a background color on the main view, a background color on the table, and a background color on the cell. Is there some kind of padding or spacer by default in a UITableView?
