• Can you open an SPSite object while being within a different site collection?

  I'm working on creating a common navigation experience across two site collections in MOSS 2007. I've looked around for various solutions and haven't found anything that fits. Our navigation is dynamic and driven by a number of factors, including audience targeting. Most of what I've found relates to having static XML and that just won't work for our requirements. What I'm down to at the moment is just getting a navigation item from site collection A while in the context of site collection B. Are there reasons I shouldn't be able to just open a navigation item from site collection A and gets its audience? Certainly there could be permissions problems on my end, or code related issues, or things that are in my control. What I'm wondering is if there's something inherent to SharePoint that would not allow this. Something I don't have control over which would force me to travel a different path.

• Some good websites to learn about JavaScript and programming architecture?

  I'm not sure if 'architecture' is the correct term, but I've been looking for some articles online which talk about programming design and more about how best to use languages such as JavaScript in a code design sense rather than the actual syntax itself. I have found many websites but a lot seem to be very out dated, and I'm not sure what developments have taken place with JavaScript over the years so do not know how old is too old. If anybody could suggest some great websites, or maybe specific articles you think would be useful, that would be highly appreciated. I am a beginner programmer currently using JavaScript with XML and of course HTML & CSS, and I'm currently trying to get further into and learn more about web development.

• Silverlight Isolated Storage and loading big files

  In a Windows Phone 7 application, I would like to query a big XML file (list of cities) stored using Isolated Storage. If I do that this way, will the file be loaded to memory ( 5 mo) ? If so, what other solution do I have? Edit: More details. I want to use AutoCompleteBox (http://www.jeff.wilcox.name/2008/10/introducing-autocompletebox/), but instead of using a web service (this is fixed data, no need to be online), I want to query a file/database/isolated storage... I have a fixed list of cities. I said in the comments it's 40k, but it finally seems closer to 1k rows.

• Posting data to a HttpHandler greater then ~29MB gives a 404 error

  I am testing a HttpHandler that accepts XML. It works fine when a small amount of data is posted but if I post data larger then approx 29mb, I get a asp.net 404 Error. I am posting to the handler from another handler in the same project and I have tried 2 methods - 1. HttpWebRequest with "POST" 2. WebClient with UploadFile() and UploadData() I get the same 404 error when the posted data is above 29mb. I also tried putting a breakpoint right in the beginning of the receiving handler and debugging. It is never hit. Appears like the handler was never called. Works ok for smaller sized data. What am I doing Wrong? (Thanks in advance for helping)

• How to check value of stored procedure output parameter

  I have a stored procedure that: A. inserts some rows into a "table variable" based on some joins B. selects all values from column x from that table into a string with comma separated values C. selects all from the "table variable" If I execute the procedure like this: EXEC CatalogGetFilmDetails2 2,111111; a table is returned as instructed per step C above. How can I execute it so that also the output parameter value is displayed? (see point B above). I need to check if it's calculated properly. And since the second parameter is of output type, meaning it's calculated inside the procedure, why is it mandatory to specify a value for it when executing the procedure? I normally use a random value for it, it anyway doesn't matter/impact the result. On the other hand if I try to execute it without the output parameter, it returns an error) Thank you very much!   From the GWT page (http://code.google.com/webtoolkit/doc/latest/DevGuideUiCss.html#cssfiles), it mentions 2 ways (for modern application): Using a CssResource contained within a ClientBundle. Using an inline element in a UiBinder template. Modern GWT applications typically use a combination of CssResource and UiBinder. So my question is, when should I use a css file and create a CssResource for it, and when should I define styles directly in the ui.xml file using <ui:style>? Are there any performance implication (i.e. resource size to download on the client) with either of these ways?

• Long running, polling, queueing process for Python. What's the best stuff to use?

  Feel free to close and/or redirect if this has been asked, but here's my situation: I've got an application that will require doing a bunch of small units of work (polling a web service until something is done, then parsing about 1MB worth of XML and putting it in a database). I want to have a simple async queueing mechanism that'll poll for work to do in a queue, execute the units of work that need to be done, and have the flexibility to allow for spawning multiple worker processes so these units of work can be done in parallel. (Bonus if there's some kind of event framework that would also me to listen for when work is complete.) I'm sure there is stuff to do this. Am I describing Twisted? I poked through the documentation, I'm just not sure exactly how my problems maps onto their framework, but I haven't spent much time with it. Should I just look at the multiprocess libraries in Python? Something else?

  I've seen a lot of questions about the merits of WPF here, and essentially every answer says it's the bee's knees, but essentially every answer also talks about things like XAML, in many cases graphic designers and Expression Blend etc. My question is, is it worth getting into WPF if you're a solo coder working in C# only? Specifically, I don't have a graphic designer, nor any great talent in that area myself; I don't use point-and-click tools; I write everything in C#, not XML. Winforms works fine in those conditions. Is the same true of WPF, or does it turn out that important functions can only be done in XAML, the default settings aren't intended for actual use and you have to have a graphic designer on the team to make things look good, etc., and somebody in my position would be better off to stick to Winforms?

• Debugging "Incorrect Syntax" Exception

  I have recently been working with a COM+ component that processes an input XML file, and makes a number of database updates based on the supplied data. Running SQL Profiler with EventClass Exception, and User Error Message selected, I see: Exception Error: 102, Severity: 15, State: 1 User Error Message Incorrect syntax near '3'. However I really want to see the full SQL that is being supplied by the COM+ component. Is there anyway for me using Profiler, or other, for me to intercept the SQL statement that was sent to the SQL Server? This machine is using SQL Server 2005, and the COM+ object is written in Delphi.

• Simply display RSS feed in/on aspx page

  Maybe I am being a n00b here, but for the life of me, I cant find a simple drop in type solution for displaying an rss feed inside an aspx page? I am looking for a simple solution, as when Firefox gets pointed to an rss feed, it just plainly displays it, no thrills, no fuss. I don't want to get into the xml and format it extensively. I just want a basic feed, will style it with font and a:styles. Thats it. Any ideas? EDIT: I am attempting to show a worpress "feed" inside an aspx page...

  I am trying to get list of reviews for specific changeset using FishEye REST API. Here is my URL: http://fisheye.company.com/rest-service-fe/search-v1/reviewsForChangesets/NameOfRepository/ I am posting it using fiddler composer with following request body: cs=16964 Here is my response: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="true"?> <reviewsForChangesets> <changesets> <changeset> <reviews/> <changesetId>16964</changesetId> </changeset> </changesets> </reviewsForChangesets> As you can see it has no reviews information. However if I go to following url I can see that 16964 changeset has reviews assigned to it: http://fisheye.company.com/changelog/NameOfRepository?cs=16964 I also tried to use: http://fisheye.company.com/rest-service-fe/search-v1/reviewsForChangeset/NameOfRepository/ I got the same response. Am I missing something?

I want to know how can I modify this mechanism to make TOMCAT auto search my specified directory. • How to change object positions in an android layout?

  Hi, I'm currently working on a very simple aplication, and I intended to make it change the visual aspect depending on the screen size. The application just has 6 buttons like this: http://www.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/e1efb4c4d0.jpg I'm using the AbsoluteLayout, and changing the x and y of the buttons with the methods offsetLeftAndRight and offsetTopAndBottom. I'm not changing the layout of the buttons in the xml file, so the all start in the same place. However, if I use this methods inside the onClickMethod they sometimes appear where I want them, sometimes don't (can't figure out why), but if i use them in the onCreate method, nothing happens. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks

• Gendarme Rules Customisation

  Does anyone know the correct way to explicitly specify which rules Gendarme will use? Or which rules to exclude? I'm not having a lot of joy searching the Mono documentation for the answer. What I'm trying to do is to specify the rules one by one in the Gendarme rules.xml file like this: <rules include="AvoidAssemblyVersionMismatchRule" from="Gendarme.Rules.BadPractice.dll"/> Doing this, I'm hoping we can then switch off the rules we don't care about. The problem is, after specifying all the rules in this way, I'm getting a different number of defects detected compared with when I use the default method Gendarme provides, which is of the form: <rules include="*" from="Gendarme.Rules.BadPractice.dll"/> <rules include="*" from="OTHER DLL NAMES"/> Has anyone done this before? Or can anyone point me in the direction of some Gendarme rules usage documentation?

• Asp.net cached objects staying in memory

  I have a asp.net web forms app that uses System.Web.Caching.Cache to cache xml data from a number of web services for 2 hours. webCacheObj.Remove(dataCacheKey) webCacheObj.Insert(dataCacheKey, dataToCache, Nothing, DateTime.Now.AddHours(2), Nothing) Every 90 minutes a Microsoft Search Server hits a particular (spider) page which calls the code to put the objects into the cache. The issue i have is that over a period of time, the memory usage of the application grows exponentially. Lets say that in a week, the memory usage of the application pool grows to over 1gb. I'm using IIS7 and no application pool recycling is currently enabled.

As of now, I've started learning XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, PHP, and mySQL, but with so many combinations, I want to plan ahead to have a marketable combination of skills as early on as possible. Am I on the right path? What is vital for a marketable web programmer's arsenal? Thanks for your thoughts.

• Maven project is in a subfolder, can't get Eclipse integration to work

  Inside the folder 'ProjectName' exists several subfolders, and of them contains java program: ProjectName Specifications JavaCode Gfx ... JavaCode folder contains pom.xml. I have installed m2eclipse (0.10.x) to Eclipse and imported whole ProjectName folder to Eclipse. Subfolders are displayed correctly but maven integration is not working correctly - for example I don't see src/main/java "shortcut" folder in Eclipse, but I have to click to open all folders. If I create a new maven project with Eclipse from scratch, the integration works well. What could be the issue?

• Does Google provide any Android tutorials that teach how to implement a Service?

  I apologize in advance for the "newbie" nature of this question. Here is my predicament: I'm brand new to android and developing in general. I'm using android's SDK with eclipse Galileo. I've followed several tutorials to create different layouts. I've even learned recently how to use radio buttons and verify which ones were selected. Now I need to create a service that downloads and updates an xml file within the application. I've tried to locate a simple tutorial for services on Google's developer site but so far, so bad. If they exist could somebody point me in the right direction? On the other hand, I've been told Google's tutorials are a little out dated. Is that true? If so, are there any other tutorials that would hand-hold (and possibly over-explain) how to use a service to a true newbie for free (like google)? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

• Using Gradle with an existing Android project

  I have an existing Android project with the following structure: - ProjectName -- AndroidManifest.xml -- local.properties -- project.properties -- assets -- libs (containing all jars) -- modules (containing all library projects my project depends on) -- res -- src ---- com/namespace/projectname (all my classes including main activity are here) I haven't been using any specific build system to build my project other than the one provided by default with the Android Studio IDE (though the project was originally created with IntelliJ CE. I would like to use Gradle with the android plugin and do some work on my build process. I have tried several configurations in order to achieve this and have failed to complete a successful build every time. What's the recommended approach in this scenario? should I change my project structure? or is it possible to configure gradle using the existing structure? Any help would be greatly appreciated.   Hello, I am attempting to return a image from a server using Silverlight 3. The server returns the Response stream like this: context.Response.ContentType = imageFactory.ContentType imgStream.WriteTo(context.Response.OutputStream) imgStream.Close() context.Response.End() On the Silverlight client I am handling the stream like: Dim request As HttpWebRequest = result.AsyncState Dim response As HttpWebResponse = request.EndGetResponse(result) Dim responseStream As IO.Stream = response.GetResponseStream() I want to take that stream and open the browsers save dialog, one option I have explored is using the Html.Window.Navigate(New Uri("image url")) and this opened the correct browser default dialog but it is not an option because I need to send extended information(e.g. XML) to the server through the HttpRequest.Headers.Item and the Navigate doesn't allow this. How can I take a Response Stream and force the default browser Save dialog to appear from the Silverlight Application without using the Html.Window.Navigate(New Uri("image url"))?
