• Splitting string on probable English word boundaries

  I recently used Adobe Acrobat Pro's OCR feature to process a Japanese kanji dictionary. The overall quality of the output is generally quite a bit better than I'd hoped, but word boundaries in the English portions of the text have often been lost. For example, here's one line from my file: softening;weakening(ofthemarket)8 CHANGE [transform] oneselfINTO,takethe form of; disguise oneself I could go around and insert the missing word boundaries everywhere, but this would be adding to what is already a substantial task. I'm hoping that there might exist software which can analyze text like this, where some of the words run together, and split the text on probable word boundaries. Is there such a package? I'm using Emacs, so it'd be extra-sweet if the package in question were already an Emacs package or could be readily integrated into Emacs, so that I could simply put my cursor on a line like the above and repeatedly invoke some command that splits the line on word boundaries in decreasing order of probable correctness.

• PHP check if file exists on my server, based on a full URL

  I have an app that generates invoices in the form of PDF files stored in a directory on my server. Before mailing out this invoices I'd like to make sure that the URL (not server path) which I store in my DB does indeed point to a valid PDF file. Something could have gone wrong that wrote a value to that field in the db, but for example the filename is missing; meaning the file is not in the specified directory. AFAIK file_exists just checks server paths but not URL's. I could always store the server path too, or assemble it, but I'm wondering if i can do this check based on a full http url ending with a filename? EDIT: yeah CURL occurred to me too but doesn't that seem a bit heavy for such a simple task? Perhaps I should just store the server path too.

  I'm working on a C# application that needs to use Direct3D in a control in a windows form, AND (at the same time) fullscreen on a secondary monitor. Basically, I want a Windows Forms application on one screen with a user-interface to control the graphics, and I'd like to show preview-graphics in a small control, and full-blown superduper megafancy graphics fullscreen on a secondary monitor. What's the best way to approach this? (For example, I know XNA can render in a Windows Forms control, but is it possible to then add a fullscreen window on another monitor as well?)

  Using Microsoft Spy++, I can see that the following windows that belong to a process: Process XYZ window handles, displayed in tree form just like Spy++ gives me: A B C D E F G H I J K I can get the process, and the MainWindowHandle property points to the handle for window F. If I enumerate the child windows using I can get a list of window handles for G through K, but I can't figure out how to find the window handles for A through D. How can I enumerate windows that are not children of the handle specified by MainWindowHandle of the Process object? • Good piece of software that can manage the creation of complex web forms, including reporting, etc?

  I have some clients who are requesting for some of their reasonably complex paper-based forms to be converted in to web forms. There's straight Q&A text input stuff, there's questions based around checkboxes, radio boxes, select boxes, maybe the occasional attached image, there's data that has to be entered in a tabular fashion, etc. I am deciding whether I should build a "platform" with properly normalised tables to store all types of form data. But before that, I thought I had better check and see if there is anything like that already on the market. I am looking for a product that can: * Easily create web forms of all types * Store all data in a database * Extensive reporting capability I have had a bit of a look around but there's not a whole lot I can see. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

• Global variable life in Javascript - destroyed on a reload?

  (I am learning Javascript) Problem: A page I am working on has 2 views, a data entry view with a textbox and a data rendering view. There is a a href src="currentpage#" link that switches between the 2 views. In order to transmit data from view to view, the javascript parses it from the current HTML and pushes it into the correct form for the other view. This is ugly and I want to refactor it out, ideally into some sort of global where it can be neatly rendered down into the view on command (I'm refactoring the code base to a point where I can AJAX it from a server). However, I am not certain about scoping rules and variable life in JS.

• How do I stall until a SharePoint List Item is Deleted with SPLongOperation?

  I have a workflow, which creates a task and deletes it after the task is edited and its useful information acquired. I created a custom edit form for the task, so I have an SPLongOperation that I can use to stall the page. This is necessary, because if I don't stall the page in some fashion, the person will see the task in the task list for the minute moment before the workflow gets to delete the task, and that is bad. So some code to stall the page until the task is fully deleted is necessary. I have currently implemented a solution for this, but I am unsatisfied with the approach. It basically is summed up to a while loop that calls SPList.GetItemById until it throws an error. Delibrately attempting to cause an error doesn't sit well with me, but I cannot think of a faster method for checking this. I'm looking for alternatives that would preferably work faster if not as fast, and preferably without relying on catching exceptions. Thank you in advance!

Do I still need to be using mysql_real_escape_string()?

• Test wordpress sites for SQL Injection on siteurl

  I have a client who's wordpress sites have gotten hacked twice by iframe scammers. Each time they've injected iframe code into the content of the sites. This last time, today, they simply changed the siteurl in wp_options to their iframe code. The result was obvious and appeared to simply botch the paths of the scripts that rely on I can't determine if its a password compromise (on FTP or WordPress itself) or a SQL injection to alter siteurl. Since the only thing that was altered is siteurl, I'm thinking perhaps SQL Injection. What are your thoughts? Any way to scan a site for potential SQL injection vulnerabilities? The only active plugins on the site are contact form 7 and google xml sitemaps.

• NServiceBus is blocking when hosted in ASP.NET web application

  Hello, I created a simple web application where a search form is filled out, submit button clicked, and a message is sent with the search parameters via nServiceBus. I also have a handler in the same project that picks up the message (from the same queue). For some reason, the web server process blocks until after the message is picked up, is there any reason for this? I set a breakpoint in the message handler and it breaks before the request finishes... locking the browser until I allow the code to continue. I would expect control to return to the browser regardless of when the handler gets fired... Thanks, D.Niemeyer

• My PHP login no longer works

  This page worked like a charm for years... enter the correspondng user id and password and you would be redirected to your directory. Now suddenly, all attempts to log in - valid or otherwise - result in the page remaining static... no message, no redirect, nothing. Nothing in the code has changed, it just plain doesn't work anymore. Could this be the result of some kind of change on the server side? Yeah, I know it's not super secure, but it was good enough for our purposes. I'm certainly open to better suggestions. I just need it to work... and keep working. Please be gentle! Now the desired report format is EmpId OrderId Acme's Profit Evolve's Profit ----- ------ ------------- --------------- 1 1 700 $ 700 $ 2 1 500 $ 500 $ 3 3 1000 $ 1000 $ I tried hard at the crosstab but I'm unable to figure out how to group the records. I tried moving CompanyName in CrossTab columns and moved EmpId in rows & tried a cross tab group but results are not as expected. My questions are 1) Is this format achievable with a cross tab ? 2) How do I group record's by EmpId's in my crosstab in such a way that the Companies are moved horizontally ?

  Here is one of the examples that I've seen on how to do validation on Controller: [HttpPost] public ViewResult Create(MyModel response) { if (ModelState.IsValid) { return View("Thanks"); } else { return View(); } } If there are validation errors, than return View() method is called without any parameters. Obviesly you have @Html.ValidationSummary() in your View and Model has all required properties attributes. The data that was entered into the form was preserved and displayed again when the view was rendered with the validation summary. My question is how data preserved?   For some reason, I want to dump a table from a database (sqlite3) in the form of a csv file. I'm using a python script with elixir (based on sqlalchemy) to modify the database. I was wondering if there is any way to dump the table I use to csv. I've seen sqlalchemy serializer but it doesn't seem to be what I want. Am I doing it wrong? Should I call the sqlite3 python module after closing my sqlalchemy session to dump to a file instead? Or should I use something homemade?

• Why is QProcess converting the '=' in my arguments to spaces

  I've run into a weird error with a Qt program running on Windows. The program uses QProcess to spawn a child process wit two arguments. The program and arguments passed to the QProcess::start() method are of the form: "batchfile.bat" "--option1=some_value" "--option2=some_other_value\with_a\path" For some reason by the time those options get to the batchfile for processing the equals signs have been converted to spaces and it now looks like: "batchfile.bat" "--option1 some_value" "--option2 some_other_value\with_a\path" because of this, the processing fails. Any ideas what could be causing the equal signs to be replaced by spaces? I'm using the mingw build of the QT 4.6.3 framework found on the Qt download page.

  How to have Dojo support disabled by default and just enable it if you want to use it ? I have the problem that dojo support is automaticly loaded when using any form. Even without any dojo elements. • Source control on internet i.e. no private networks.

  Me and my friend are in the process of starting a small project and want to implement a source control. Now both are located in different cities and can communicate using internet for file sharing etc. I need an online hosting solution or any way where i can maintain the source code repository for both of us to check in/out. As of now we want to maintain it as private project. Does sourceforge allow hosting projects which would not be opensource? One option i was thinking, to obtain a static IP form ISP and host the repository.But that mean my system needs to be online when my friend wants to checkin/out or do some diff with old version code. Secondly, would SVN or git be a better choice in such a situation. I have no experience in git/mercurial as of now.

  I (and co-hackers) are building a sort of trivia game inspired by this blog post: http://messymatters.com/calibration. The idea is to give confidence intervals and learn how to be calibrated (when you're "90% sure" you should be right 90% of the time). We're thus looking for, ideally, thousands of questions with unambiguous numerical answers. Also, they shouldn't be too boring. There are a lot of random statistics out there -- eg, enclosed water area in different countries -- that would make the game mind-numbing. Things like release dates of classic movies are more interesting (to most people). Other interesting ones we've found include Olympic records, median incomes for different professions, dates of famous inventions, and celebrity ages. Scraping things like above, by the way, was my reason for asking this question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2611418/scrape-html-tables So, if you know of other sources of interesting numerical facts (in a parsable form) I'm eager for pointers to them.
