• Nullables? Detecting them

  Ok, im still a bit new to using nullable types. I'm writing a reflecting object walker for a project of mine, im getting to the point where im setting the value of a reflected property with the value i've retrieved from a reflected property. The value i've retrieved is still in object form, and it dawned on me, since i want my object walker to return null when it can't find something, (I thought about throwing an exception, but i want this to soft-fail when something's wrong). Anyway, some of the values im setting/getting are decimal bool etc... so it dawned on me that i should just NOT set a non-nullable value, but I realized I straight up don't know how to tell decimal from decimal? Is it enough to key on if the Type of the property im setting is inherited from ValueType?

• Wordpress custom pages CMS

  Hi guys, I'm considering Wordpress as my CMS platform for a client site I'm doing at the moment. However, I need to create a couple of custom 'modules'. One of these modules is a form that people will be able to complete and have a quote, and once submitted, in a special place in the Wordpress panel (like a menu or something), there will be a listing of all the submitted quotes (just fetching it from a table in my database). Another one is to manage a cafeteria menu, so the client can add a different meal to each day of the week. I know perfectly how to do this kind of things using some kind of MVC framework and doing it 'by-hand', but I'm just wondering if this would be possible to do with WP and if yes, what kind of tools I'll have to use. • Zend + Pop Up's balloons on Server Problem

  Dear Friends from Stackoverflow, Please help me with a problem that i'm having when uploading my project to the server. I'm using pop up's balloons (http://mckay.cshl.edu/balloons.html) for a project using Zend FW and it works fine on my localhost. (I'm using MAMP on MacOSX) but when I upload the webpage to the server, the text inside the balloons is displayed but the images that form the balloon are not, so somehow the js does not recognize the url to the images (the path it's correct, i've checked several times). The server is an Ubuntu 9.04 virtual machine from rackspace.com, running a LAMP server. I'm using the REWRITE function in Apache, so i guess maybe that's the problem. The rewrite configuration is set up using a .htaccess file with the following content: SetEnv APPLICATION_ENV development Options +FollowSymlinks RewriteEngine ON RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule !.(js|ico|txt|gif|jpg|png|css|html)$ index.php Does anyone knows what the problem might be? • Alert on moving to a different page of a grid when user changes contents of textboxes in a Grid

  In a ASP.NET application I have a paging RadGrid which shows up textbox in each row. Outside the grid, there is an OK button to save the content of all the textbox. If user changes text in any one or more of the textbox and without clicking on the "OK" button, tries to move to a different page number (of the grid by clicking on the page number), he should be prompted for confirmation of save or cancel the changes. I am guessing that one can write a Javascript function which would look for any form input control (textbox in my case) and detect changes and If there are changes, would prompt the user. However, I am not sure where I can call this function from? Any suggestion on this or a better way to achieve this would be appreciated. I am using RadGrid but I guess this should be applicable to GridView as well.

• Using .htaccess to replace backslash in URL with forward-slash

  I realise that a backslash should never appear in a URL in a form other than a URL escape code, however in this case the URL's are being generated by a .NET application for generating flashbooks. I have contacted the developer of this application with a bug report. In the interim i would like to use .htaccess to rewrite the offending backslashes. This is how the URLs appear in fiddler debugging proxy. www.example.com/folder/folder/thumbs%5C1.jpg I am using Firefox and it looks as though Firefox is translating them into the URL encoded equivalent ( \ == %5C1 ). Interestingly IE translates the backslash into a forward-slash automatically (not adhering to standards but convenient in this case). Is there a way to use .htaccess to rewrite all \ to /?

  I'm having hard time getting my head wrapped around this one - and it should be trivial. I would like to redirect one URL with a specific query string to another URL. I want to send any requests that contain the query string in the URL http://mysite.com/index.php?option=com_user&view=register To: http://mysite.com/index.php?option=com_regme&view=form&regme=4&random=0&Itemid=6 If they add anything to the end of the first URL, it should still go to the second URL so that they cannot bypass the redirection. Nothing in the first query string needs to be preserved and passed to the second - all I want to do is change the URL completely. I'm tearing my hair out trying to get this to work yet it should be trivial. Suggestions? Thanks, -Tim

  Greetings, in my mvc application when I try to connect to wcf service I get this error It is invalid to show a modal dialog or form when the application is not running in UserInteractive mode. Specify the ServiceNotification or DefaultDesktopOnly style to display a notification from a service application. The problem only occurs on production server (Win2008, IIS7). On my development server (WinXp, IIS6) it works ok. Additionally. I can connect from asp.net mvc development to wcf production service. I can't do this od production server (asp mvc production to production wcf service)

• Unable to use NSURLConnection to get contents of password/username protected webpage

  I am trying to get the contents of a webpage that requires a password and user name to access. I am using a NSURLConnection object to get it however when I write the NSMutableData object that is returned to a file all I get is the login page. Normally when you try to load the password protected page when you are not logged in it redirects to the login page however I thought that if I provided valid credentials then this I would be able to view the password protected page. Also I do not know if it is relevant the website is using a microsoft mysql database on an IIS (internet information server). Note: [protectionSpace authenticationMethod] returns NSURLAuthenticationMethodServerTrust I am pretty unfamiliar with this so any ideas would be greatly appreciated. • Re-factoring a CURL request to Ruby's RestClient

As far as I can tell, the request does get properly authenticated, but hangs up from the file upload part. • What should I really release as open source when I use Berkeley DB (JE)?

  The Berkeley DB (JE) license information says: "...Redistributions in any form must be accompanied by information on how to obtain complete source code for the DB software and any accompanying software that uses the DB software.... For an executable file, complete source code means the source code for all modules it contains. It does not include source code for modules or files that typically accompany the major components of the operating system on which the executable file runs." If I build an abstraction level on top of BDB JE, should I open source only that library or any software that uses BDB JE indirectly?

• Django-allauth redirected to connections

  I have got around 800 files of maximum 55KB-100KB each where the data is in this format Date/Time/Float1/Float2/Float3/Float4/Integer Date is in DD/MM/YYYY format and Time is in the format of HH:MM Here the date ranges from say 1st May to 1June and each day, the Time varies from 09:00 to 15:30. I want to run a program so that, for each file, it extracts the data pertaining to a particular given date and writes to a file. I will not face any problem in writing into directory operations. I am trying to get around, to form a to do a search and extract operation. I dont know, how to do it, would like to have some idea. Thanks Soham

I managed to edit the registry HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT so that a click on file with .xyz extension will open my application. basically, i need to do some operation on this file when it's clicked. however, i realise that if i do that the first time, it reaches program.cs at static void Main. but when the program is running and i click on the file with .xyz extension again, it doesnt loads the program static void Main. i tried setting breakpoints at the form that is currently running but still nothing. so where does it go to? how can i detect file .xyz is clicked and do something??

  Hi, i have a 'User' model which has a has_many relationship to a 'Number' model through a join table 'user_number' model. I use accepts_nested_attributes_for :numbers, :allow_destroy = true in the 'User' model. Everything works fine except that whenever i delete a number from a user in the edit form, the associated number is deleted correctly in the 'number' table, but not the entry in the 'user_number' join table. In the update controller action i only use this: ... if @user.update_attributes(params[:user]) ... How can i force rails to also delete the associated entry in the join table?

• Problem with a SQL statement

  I'm trying to enter values into a database table using a form and a PHP function. The PHP seems to be fine as the SQL statement it creates looks okay, but the database always throws up an error. This is the SQL statement that my code has generated (with arbitrary values): INSERT INTO Iteminfo ('itemName', 'itemSeller', 'itemCategory', 'itemDescription', 'itemPrice', 'itemPostage', 'itemBegin', 'itemEnd', 'buynow', 'itemPicture') values ('gorillaz album', 'ben', 'music', 'new one ', '5.00', '1.00', '2010-03-15 14:59:51', '2010-03-16 14:59:51', '0', 'http://www.thefader.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/gorillaz-plastic-beach.jpg') This throws up an error both when I use the PHP function to evaluate the query and also when I use phpMyAdmin to enter the query manually. However, I can't see anything wrong with it. Can anyone shed some light on this? All of the fields are VARCHAR values, except for itemPrice and itemPostage (which are stored as DECIMAL(4,2)) and the itemBegin and itemEnd, which are stored as DATETIMEs.

• What tools are people using to measure SQL Server database performance?

  I've experimented with a number of techniques for monitoring the health of our SQL Servers, ranging from using the Management Data Warehouse functionality built into SQL Server 2008, through other commercial products such as Confio Ignite 8 and also of course rolling my own solution using perfmon, performance counters and collecting of various information from the dynamic management views and functions. What I am finding is that whilst each of these approaches has its own associated strengths, they all have associated weaknesses too. I feel that to actually get people within the organisation to take the monitoring of SQL Server performance seriously whatever solution we roll out has to be very simple and quick to use, must provide some form of a dashboard, and the act of monitoring must have minimal impact on the production databases (and perhaps even more importantly, it must be possible to prove that this is the case). So I'm interested to hear what others are using for this task? Any recommendations?

• Kohana input & validation libraries - overlap?

  I'm familiarizing myself with Kohana. I've been reading up on the Input library, which automatically pre-filters GET and POST data for me, and the Validation libary, which helps with form validation. Should I use both together? The examples given in the Validation library documentation use the unfiltered $_POST array instead of $this->input->post(). Seems to me it would be more secure to chain the two, but the two sets of documentation seem to make no mention of each other, so I don't know if this would be redundant or not.

• Installing Bugzilla on Ubuntu 9.04 and Plesk

  Hey guys. I'm trying to install the latest Bugzilla version on my ubuntu server. (Want to use a subdomain like bugs.domain.com) I already installed all necessary perl modules and check_modules.pl doesn't show any errors. But when I'm running the testserver.pl script I get the following: TEST-OK Webserver is running under group id in $webservergroup TEST-FAILED Fetch of images/padlock.png failed I'm also not able to visit ANY file within the bugzilla folder from the browser. I'm always getting a 404 error. The bugzilla folder and all containing files are set to apache as the owner. I tried to enter the apache configuration form the installation guide in the http.include file of the domain and in the vhosts.conf file of the subdomain as well. I don't know what to do... Playing with plesks' suexecgroup doesn't bring any solution... I hope you can help me! Thanks in advance!

• Programmatically manipulating DOM element value doesn't fire onchange event

  Hi all. I've got a hidden form field, and when a button gets pressed the value of the hidden field is changed. Now, I've added an observer to the hidden field, listening for changes to occur. For some reason, though, the event listener never kicks in, even though the value of the hidden element changes. I'm using Prototype and Firefox 3.6. The code looks roughly like this: button.observe('click', function(event) { hiddenField.setValue(someValue); }); hiddenField.observe('change', function(event) { alert('It works!'); }); Does anyone have a clue why the latter observer doesn't execute?   From the preface of the second edition of Kernighan and Ritchie's "The C Programming Language": As before, all examples have been tested directly from the text, which is in machine-readable form. That quote threw me for a loop. What exactly does it mean? Was the original manuscript written as a literate program? My first thought was that this book, published in 1988 (original, first edition in 1978) predates literate programming, but now I'm not so sure. Can anybody shed some light on this?

• Why are $_POST variables getting escaped in PHP?

  When my PHP script receives data from an AJAX POST request, the $_POST variables are escaped. The really strange thing is that this only happens on my production server (running PHP 5.2.12 on Linux) and not on my local server (running PHP 5.3.1 on Windows).
