• Opening read-only OLEDB connection to MS Access back-end database while allowing updates via separat

  I have a back-end MS Access 2002-2003 database which stores blog entries. I created a separate front-end database with the forms for entering blog posts into the backend database. Finally, I have a website utilizing ASP to display the blog entries. The website connects directly to the backend database using an OLEDB connection object. Whenever I open the form for creating a new post in MS Access, loading the blog post page on the website displays the error: Could not use "; file already in use. I would like to be able to display the older blog posts even though the newest one is in the process of being added.

• Correct sequence of actions when using Markdown & MySQL?

  I want my users to be able to write an article in Markdown, have it stored in the MySQL database (with the option to edit it in the future), and displayed for other users. In practice, this is my understanding of how it works: INPUT user input via HTML form using Markdown syntax $queryInput = mysql_real_escape_string($userInput); insert sanitized string into database OUTPUT query field from database $output = Markdown($queryResult); display $output Is that it? Does PHP Markdown preclude the need for htmlspecialchars or Pure HTML ? Thanks!

• Can ActionScript tell when a SWF was published?

  I'd like to write a little class that adds a Day/Month box showing the date a SWF was published from Flash. The company I work for regularly produces many, many SWFs and many versions of each, iterating over the course of months. A version-tracking system we've been using to communicate with our clients is a Day/Month date-box that gives the date the SWF was published. Up until now, we've been filling in the publish date by hand. If there's any way I can do this programatically with ActionScript that'd be fantastic. Any insight? Basically, all I need is the call that gives me the publish date, or even.. anything about the circumstances under which a SWF was published that I could use to roll into some form of.. automated version identification, unique to this SWF. So, can ActionScript tell when a SWF was published?

  I am developing a little J2ME application that will read our grades from our university's server. With Desktop Applications, It is fine, I can do it but in J2ME, it always gives me this error, even I use well-known services like HTTPS Google, I still get the same error. urlConn = (HttpsConnection) Connector.open("https://stars.bilkent.edu.tr/srs/ajax/login.php"); urlConn.setRequestMethod(HttpsConnection.POST); urlConn.setRequestProperty("Content-Type", "application/x-www-form-urlencoded"); o = urlConn.openOutputStream(); // Sending my POST requests to server input = urlConn.openDataInputStream(); In the last line I always get the error I mentioned above. • 2 Runtime Packages: how can I use a unit from each other? (Delphi)

  Hi, Lets assume we have 2 runtime packages, with 1 form in each one; Pkg1 -> Unit1 (frm1) Pkg2 -> Unit2 (frm2) Now I want that they "know" each other. When pkg1 needs to know Unit2, we have to "require" Pkg2 in Pkg1. So now I can do a "uses" Unit2 and then do frm2.Show in Unit1 code. But when I do the same thing in Pkg2 (set to require Pkg1), it does not compile, informing that Pgk2 already have a unit name Unit2 (I think is because Pkg1 is requiring Pkg2). So, how to: in Unit1 do a "uses Unit2" and in Unit2 do a "uses Unit1"? Thanks in advance.

• Can't get custom error rendering to work in symfony 1.4

  I'm tring to customize error rendering in my form according to this example. Here is my code: if ($this['message']->hasError()) { $error_msg = '<ul>'; foreach ($this['message']->getError() as $error) $error_msg .= "<li>$error</li>"; $error_msg .= '</ul>'; } return $error_msg; but when $this['message'] has error this code returns '<ul></ul>' so it seems foreach ($this['message']->getError() as $error) causes no iterations $this['message']->getError() returns sfValidatorError object - maybe something changed in symfony 1.4 and it isn't iterable anymore... At first I thought that all magic in that example happened because of object being placed in $error by iteration implements __toString() but it seems no iterations happens at all...

• Visual Studio keeps changing resx files

  Hello everyone ! I'm working on a VB.Net project and using SVN. I noticed that every time I use my main form, Visual studio slightly modifies my .resx file, which means that I keep having to re-commit it, which is quite an annoying thing. Has anybody experienced such problems? • Legality, terms of service for performing a web crawl

  I was going to crawl a site for some research I was collecting. But, apparently the terms of service is quite clear on the topic. Is it illegal to now "follow" the terms of service. And what can the site normally do? Here is an example clause in the TOS. Also, what about sites that don't provide this particular clause. Restrictions: "use any robot, spider, site search application, or other automated device, process or means to access, retrieve, scrape, or index the site" It is just research? Edit: "OK, from the standpoint of designing an efficient crawler. Should I provide some form of natural language engine to read terms of service and then abide by them."

• Needing to copy properties before validation

  I have a farily complex model needing to be validated, the problem is that this model is used on two different places, one where you register your customer and one where you simply add addresses. Some fields on the address are simply not visible on the register customer form. So when i check if ModelState.IsValid i get false of course since eg. the name is not entered on the billing address, but it is on the customer. That is why i want to before validation occurs, copy a couple of fields to the model, and then validate. I am somewhat lost though and i need help. My action looks something like this: public ActionResult Register(WebCustomer customer) { customer.CopyProperties(); if(TryUpdateModel(customer)) { ... } ... But it always returns false, and ModelState.IsValid continues to be false.

• Show a taskbar item with a NativeWindow

  My application is intended to work almost entirely through a Windows 7 taskbar item with the use of thumbnails and jump lists. I know I can easily create a Form and simply hide it, but this seems like overkill. Plus, I'd like to toy around with NativeWindow as much as possible, because I've never used it before. Essentially, I have a class called RootWindow that derives from NativeWindow. I don't need a visible window at all, but simply something to process window messages and provide a taskbar item that I can attach thumbnails and jump lists to. Is there some kind of special CreateParams option I need to pass to CreateHandle? Or am I out of luck?

• Rails, using jQuery without jrails

  Hello all, I have been trying to convert my rails 2.2.2 app over to jQuery, and would like so without using jrails. The only reference material I can find on the subject is Railscasts Episode 136. Ryan goes over how to use jQuery to post a form and handle the response in a .js.erb file. My questions is has anyone tried to use jQuery with .js.erb files with anchors as the trigger? As a replacement for "link_to_remote". I have gotten jQuery to do a .get to submit this link on click to the controller, but I cannot seem to get it to go into the .js.erb file. Thanks

• iOS 5 fixed positioning and virtual keyboard

  I have a mobile website which has a div pinned to the bottom of the screen via position:fixed. All works fine in iOS 5 (I'm testing on an iPod Touch) until I'm on a page with a form. When I tap into an input field and the virtual keyboard appears, suddenly the fixed position of my div is lost. The div now scrolls with the page as long as the keyboard is visible. Once I click Done to close the keyboard, the div reverts to its position at the bottom of the screen and obeys the position:fixed rule. Has anyone else experienced this sort of behavior? Is this expected? Thanks.

So you can't use click() by itself to simulate the user clicking on a link and being taken to another url. But how DO you simulate the user clicking on a link and being taken to another url?

• Why isn't wchar_t widely used in code for Linux / related platforms?

  This intrigues me, so I'm going to ask - for what reason is wchar_t not used so widely on Linux/Linux-like systems as it is on Windows? Specifically, the Windows API uses wchar_t internally whereas I believe Linux does not and this is reflected in a number of open source packages using char types. My understanding is that given a character c which requires multiple bytes to represent it, then in a char[] form c is split over several parts of char* whereas it forms a single unit in wchar_t[]. Is it not easier, then, to use wchar_t always? Have I missed a technical reason that negates this difference? Or is it just an adoption problem?

• jQuery Autocomplete losing text on AutoPostBack

  I have a jQuery Autocomplete field on an ASP.Net Webform and everything has been working great until now. I also have a DropDownList that I have a need to fire onSelectedIndexChanged with AutoPostBack. When I changed my code to do the AutoPostBack, the text field that has the jQuery AutoComplete on it comes back blank. However, if I look at the source of the page, the text is in the text field. If I now post the form, the page will send back a blank field. My Google-Fu is weak on this one, as I could not come up with any workaround for it. Has anyone had any issues like this with the Autocomplete field getting blanked out on an AutoPostBack, and how did you get around it? I can post code if it's really necessary, but I'd need to sanitize a lot of it before I could due to company policy.

• C# MDX RenderToSurface, where to reset after device is lost?

When I resize the Form of my Device, the Draw method is still called, but doesnt throw an Exception, it looks like this: device.Clear(ClearFlags.Target, Color.Red, 0, 0); device.BeginScene(); // here is out commented code device.EndScene(); device.Present(); In another method, I wrote this: renderToSurface.BeginScene(surfaces[currentIndex]); // here is out commented code renderToSurface.EndScene(Filter.None); and this method seems to throw a nullpointer exception when I resize the window; So my question is: - where to reset / restore / handle the renderToSurface class? • Richfaces a4j achtionparam set null value

  I am trying to reset some values in a form using the a4j:actionParam tag. But it seams that null values never arrive in the target bean. The converter receives it correctly, returns null, but it is never set in the bean. The target is to fill in the start and endDate for different predefined values (last week, last month etc).   Hi all, I'm just wondering if there's any way for WPF application integrated with windows live ID? and it's actually for windows health vault [www.healthvault.com] so health vault is using windows live id or open id to login into their system. and what i gonna do is, creating wpf application (instead of web application) for health vault, so all of the login form username pass and everything is handled inside the wpf application without showing/using any internet browser. so since this's quite new for me, i hope if there's somebody ever did this before especially for health vault system that run on standalone wpf app. alright, so that's it, thank you in advance!

• What does: throw 0 do/mean? Is it "bad"?

  Context I came across some code, like this: if( Some_Condition ) throw 0; I googled a bit, and found a few other code snippets using that odd looking throw 0 form. I presume one would catch this as: catch(const int& e) { } Or is this a NULL ptr? to be caught as void* ? Question What does this throw 0 do? Is it special in some way? My normal preference would be to throw something that is (or derived from) std::exception. So to me this looks "bad". Is it "bad" ?

• Set value in controller using nested resource

  I have two models, product and order. Product - cost - id Order - cost - product_id Each time someone places an order, it captures the product_id through a radio button value in the "new order" form. In the controller when creating the new order it needs to set order.cost to order.product.cost. Logically I thought the code should be something like this: def create ... @order.cost == @order.product.cost ... end However I can't seem to make it work at all, hence me asking the question here. Any help is answering (or naming) the question would be greatly appreciated.

  hi, I just started working with ASP.Net MVC 2. I created a new ASP.Net MVC application and created one vehicle controler with a database table connected with LINQ. Then created forms authentication mechanism for the application and tried to use the uri instead of cookies it was working smoothly but when i submit the form by creating a "Create" view from the controler using the utility it just dont work. The autherization got failed and asking to enter the user name and password again.I had created the authorization mechanism by adding Authorise attribute to the Controller so as to get authorized for all the actions. namespace MVCNEW.Controllers { [Authorize] public class VehicleController : Controller { But if i use the cookies instead of uri it works fine. • Need to determine if ELMAH is logging an unhandled exception or one raised by ErrorSignal.Raise()

  I am using the Elmah Logged event in my Global.asax file to transfer users to a feedback form when an unhandled exception occurs. Sometimes I log other handled exceptions. For example: ErrorSignal.FromCurrentContext().Raise(new System.ApplicationException("Program code not found: " + Student.MostRecentApplication.ProgramCode)); // more code that should execute after logging this exception The problem I am having is that the Logged event gets fired for both unhandled and these handled, raised exceptions. Is there a way to determine, in the Logged event handler, whether the exception was raised via ErrorSignal class or was simply unhandled? Are there other Elmah events that I can take advantage of?
