  • Detecting Screen Resolution to load alternative CSS a good idea?

    - by jdln
    Im working with a graphic designer who constantly wants to make websites larger than the 960 pixels i recommend. I can do a certain amount with liquid layouts but id really love to be able to load different CSS for larger resolutions. I googled it and found the link below, but im worried that I havnt heard more about this. Is this is a reliable method? Im concerned as I would have thought that more people would want to do this. http://www.ilovecolors.com.ar/detect-screen-size-css-style/ Thanks

  • How to change the number of columns in a table dynamically but still keep the table layout intact?

    - by gurupriyan.e
    I have a 'n' column table , the first column is a drop down box , on selecting the options from the drop down, the other columns change. For eg: first drop down might need to display a text box and a button , the second drop down 3 text boxes and a button and so on. There is only one row in the table. What is the best solution to achieve this. with Sincere thanks,

  • How can I tell when changes to jquery html() have finished ?

    - by mike_t2e
    I'm using jQuery to change the HTML of a tag, and the new HTML can be a very long string. $("#divToChange").html(newHTML); I then want to select elements created in the new HTML, but if I put the code immediately following the above line it seems to create a race condition with a long string where the changes that html() is making may not necessarily be finished rendering. In that case, trying to select the new elements won't always work. What I want to know is, is there an event fired or some other way of being notified when changes to html() have finished rendering ? I came across the jQuery watch plugin, which works alright as workaround but it's not ideal. Is there a better way ?

  • Problems with noobs putting my GA code into their sites

    - by dclowd9901
    I don't mean for the title to be derogatory, but this is a rather frustrating problem, and I'm looking for a good workaround, given a language barrier involved. I have a site set up for a plugin I wrote, and, rather than use the site's resources to write their own code, I've had people simply rip the code from the samples on the site. Normally, this wouldn't be any issue at all, but they are also taking my Google Analytics instantiation, so my Analytics data is getting very skewed by incorporating visitation data from their websites. I've been able to contact the English-speaking site owners with little issue. The problem lies in the Japanese language sites that are yanking the code. I have no idea how to ask them to take down the analytics portion. Long-term, I'm providing a package that streamlines the learning-to-use process, but in the meantime, what can I do about this language barrier? Is there a way around this problem that I haven't thought of?

  • Show Hide Subnav

    - by Jon
    How can I toggle the subnav for each item, and if one is open, hide the open one to show the current one? If there are none shown, just toggle. If you click one and show subnav then and click another hide previous and show current. Here is my html - <header> <div class="content-wrapper"> <div class="user-menu-wrapper"> <div class="hsn-logo"></div> <div class="user-greeting-wrapper"> <div class="user-greeting">Hi, Abraham</div> </div> <div class="user-menu"> <ul class="user-menu-items"> <li>@Html.ActionLink(" ", "Index", "Home", new { @class = "my-account" })</li> <li>@Html.ActionLink(" ", "Index", "Home", new { @class = "my-favorites" })</li> <li>@Html.ActionLink(" ", "Index", "Home", new { @class = "my-bag" })</li> </ul> </div> </div> <div class="hsn-nav-wrapper"> <div class="hsn-nav"> <ul class="hsn-nav-items"> <li style="width: 25%"> <a class="shop" href="#"> <span class="hsn-nav-item-wrap"> <span>SHOP</span><span class="drop-down-arrow"></span> </span> </a> </li> <li style="width: 25%"> <a class="watch" href="#"> <span class="hsn-nav-item-wrap"> <span>WATCH</span><span class="drop-down-arrow"></span> </span> </a> </li> <li style="width: 25%"> <a class="play" href="#"> <span class="hsn-nav-item-wrap"> <span>PLAY</span><span class="drop-down-arrow"></span> </span> </a> </li> <li style="width: 15%"> <a href=""><span class="hsn-search-icon"></span> </a> </li> </ul> </div> <br class="clear" /> </div> </div> </header> <subnav id="shop" class="shop-subnav"> <div class="hsn-subnav-wrapper"> <div class="hsn-subnav"> <div class="hsn-subnav-left"> <ul> <li>SubnavItem</li> <li>SubnavItem</li> <li>SubnavItem</li> <li>SubnavItem</li> <li>SubnavItem</li> <li>SubnavItem</li> <li>SubnavItem</li> <li><span class="hsn-subnav-callout">Deals</span></li> </ul> </div> <div class="hsn-subnav-right"> <ul> <li>SubnavItem</li> <li>SubnavItem</li> <li>SubnavItem</li> <li>SubnavItem</li> <li>SubnavItem</li> <li>SubnavItem</li> <li>SubnavItem</li> <li><span class="hsn-subnav-callout">Clearance</span></li> </ul> </div> </div> </div> </subnav> <subnav id="watch" class="watch-subnav"> <div class="hsn-subnav-wrapper"> <div class="hsn-subnav"> <div class="hsn-subnav-left"> <ul> <li>SubnavItem2</li> <li>SubnavItem2</li> <li>SubnavItem2</li> <li>SubnavItem2</li> </ul> </div> <div class="hsn-subnav-right"> <ul> <li>SubnavItem2</li> <li>SubnavItem2</li> <li>SubnavItem2</li> <li>SubnavItem2</li> </ul> </div> </div> </div> </subnav> Here is my Jquery / JS - $(document).ready(function () { $('ul.hsn-nav-items li a').click(function () { var navitem = $(this).attr('id') , id = $(this).attr('class') , subnav = $('subnav.' + id + '-subnav'); $('a.selected').not(this).removeClass('selected'); $(this).toggleClass('selected'); $('#'+id).toggle(); }); });

  • Delay function from running for n seconds then run it once. (2minute question)

    - by Ozaki
    TLDR I have a function that runs on the end of a pan in an openlayers map. Don't want it to fire continously. I have a function that runs on the end of panning a map. I want it so that it will not fire the function until say 3 secconds after the pan has finished. Although I don't want to queue up the function to fire 10 or so times like setTimeout is currently doing. How can I delay a function from running for n seconds then run it only once no matter how many times it has been called?

  • jQuery > Update inline script on form submission

    - by Andrew Kirk
    I am using the ChemDoodle Web Components to display molecules on a web page. Basically, I can just insert the following script in my page and it will create an HTML5 canvas element to display the molecule. <script> var transform1 = new TransformCanvas('transform1', 200, 200, true); transform1.specs.bonds_useJMOLColors = true; transform1.specs.bonds_width_2D = 3; transform1.specs.atoms_useJMOLColors = true; transform1.specs.atoms_circles_2D = true; transform1.specs.backgroundColor = 'black'; transform1.specs.bonds_clearOverlaps_2D = true; transform1.loadMolecule(readPDB(molecule)); </script> In this example, "molecule" is a variable that I have defined in an external script by using the jQuery.ajax() function to load a PDB file. This is all fine and good. Now, I would like to include a form on the page that will allow a user to paste in a PDB molecule definition. Upon submitting the form, I want to update the "molecule" variable with the form data so that the ChemDoodle Web Components script will work its magic and display molecule defined by the PDB definition pasted into the form. I am using the following jQuery code to process the the form submission. $(".button").click(function() { // validate and process form here //hide previous errors $('.error').hide(); //validate pdb textarea field var pdb = $("textarea#pdb").val(); if (pdb == "") { $("label#pdb_error").show(); $("textarea#pdb").focus(); return false; } molecule = pdb; }); This code is setting the "molecule" variable upon the form submission but it is not being passed back to the inline script as I had hoped. I have tried a number of variations on this but can't seem to get it right. Any clues as to where I might be going wrong would be much appreciated.

  • Handle window scroll event in greasemonkey script

    - by Akim Khalilov
    Hi. I need some advice. I have a web page and want to extend it's functionality with greasemonkey script and firefox. When page has loaded I need run custom function during user's page scrolling (with mouse whell or scrollbar). I want show some div block when user scrolling down and hide it when he scrolling to the top. But I met some problem - I couldn't assign event handler to the onscroll event. I use next part of the code: function showFixedBlock(){ ... } function onScrollStart(){ ... showFixedBlock(); ... } window.onscroll = onScrollStart; I test this piece of code on my test html page and it works, but when I copy it into greasemonkey, script doesn't work. Should I assign onscroll event handler during page loading? As I know greasemonkey execute it's scripts when page has loaded? Is it the reason of the problem? Is there some additional requirments to handle 'onscroll' event? How can I do that? Thanks.

  • Preventing a Firefox Extension's load event from triggering across tabs

    - by lgomez
    Hi, I've been working on a Firefox extension that uses an iFrame to do some background scrapping. I have gone through a number of hoops to get it to trigger only once in the window/tab where it should but now when I open a different tab that tab triggers the load event. I found this: https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Code_snippets/Progress_Listeners but the snippets are not there. This was helpful before but doesn't solve the problem: https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Code_snippets/On_page_load More frustrating is that if there is this: https://developer.mozilla.org/En/Listening_to_events_on_all_tabs why should I worry about the normal event listener triggering in more than one tab? Any ideas or examples?

  • Is Bootstrap 2.1 compatible with jQuery UI?

    - by Ghopper21
    It's a known problem that the older Bootstrap didn't work out of the box with jQuery UI, as you can see from this github discussion. There are a few mashups of the two, including jQuery Bootstrap by John Seigers and jQuery UI Bootstrap by Addy Osmani. Are those mashups still necessary with the new version of Bootstrap, or can you now just use Bootstrap and jQuery UI out of the box (as is alluded to vaguely in the github discussion)?

  • Dependency issue in inheritance chain

    - by Razer
    I have a class in coffeescript a class layout like the following. class @A foo: -> console.log('foo') class @B extends A fooB: -> @foo() class @C extends B fooC: -> @foo() I tried this in interpreters, it works. However it raises errors, when executing this in the browser (all of them are in separate coffee files, and are used in a global context. Therefore the @ before the class): Uncaught ReferenceError: B is not defined application.js It seems that B is defined after the definition of C. How can this happen?

  • Jquery: Is there some way to make val() return an empty string instead of 'undefined' for an empty list?

    - by Chris
    With Jquery, is there some way to make val() return an empty string instead of 'undefined' when called against an empty list of elements? E.g., I have this code: var x = $('#my-textbox-id').not('.watermark').val(); The idea is that I want to get the value of my textbox, but I want an empty string if it is currently showing the watermark (i don't want the watermark value!). The selector works, but i don't want 'undefined' - I want an empty string ''.

  • Do you know a date picker to quickly pick one day of the current week?

    - by Murmelschlurmel
    Most date pickers allow you to pick the date from a tine calendar or enter the date by hand. For example http://jqueryui.com/demos/datepicker/ This requires - two clicks (one to display the calendar and one to select the correct date) - good eyesight (usually the pop-up calendar is very small) - and good hand-eye coordination to pick the correct date in the tiny calendar with your mouse. That's no problem for power users, but a hassle for older people and computer beginners. I found a website with a different approach. It seems like their users mostly select dates of the current week. So they listed all the days of the week in a bar together with the weekday. The current day is marked in another color. There is a tiny calender icon on the right hand that opens up a regular date picker. That gives you access to all regular date picker functionality. Here is a screenshot: http://mite.yo.lk/assets/img/tour/de/zeiten-erfassen.png Do you know of any jquery plugin which has a similar feature? If not, do you any other plugin or widget which would help me speed up development ? Thank you!

  • Are google chrome extension "content" scripts sandboxed?

    - by jabapyth
    I was under the impression that the content_scripts were executed right on the page, but it now seems as though there's some sandboxing going on. I'm working on an extension to log all XHR traffic of a site (for debugging and other development purposes), and in the console, the following sniff code works: var o = window.XMLHttpRequest.prototype.open; window.XMLHttpRequest.prototype.open = function(){ console.log(arguments, 'open'); return o.apply(this, arguments); }; console.log('myopen'); console.log(window, window.XMLHttpRequest, window.XMLHttpRequest.prototype, o, window.XMLHttpRequest.prototype.open); This logs a message everytime an XHR is sent. When I put this in an extension, however, the real prototype doesn't get modified. Apparently the window.XMLHttpRequest.prototype that my script is seeing differs from that of the actual page. Is there some way around this? Also, is this sandboxing behavior documented anywhere? I looked around, but couldn't find anything.

  • Explain a block of crazy JS code inside Sizzle(the CSS selector engine)

    - by Andy Li
    So, here is the function for pre-filtering "CHILD": function(match){ if ( match[1] === "nth" ) { // parse equations like 'even', 'odd', '5', '2n', '3n+2', '4n-1', '-n+6' var test = /(-?)(\d*)n((?:\+|-)?\d*)/.exec( match[2] === "even" && "2n" || match[2] === "odd" && "2n+1" || !/\D/.test( match[2] ) && "0n+" + match[2] || match[2]); // calculate the numbers (first)n+(last) including if they are negative match[2] = (test[1] + (test[2] || 1)) - 0; match[3] = test[3] - 0; } // TODO: Move to normal caching system match[0] = done++; return match; } The code is extracted from line 442-458 of sizzle.js. So, why is the line var test = ..., have the exec inputing a boolean? Or is that really a string? Can someone explain it by splitting it into a few more lines of code?

  • YUI Autocomplete: search after pasting?

    - by rassie
    I'm using an auto-complete widget from YUI to implement live search as in the examples. However, it works fine when search text is typed in, but fails to work when the text is pasted into the field. Which would be the proper way to initiate an autocompletion on paste? Haven't found anything for that in the documentation... EDIT: Pasting is not Ctrl-V, it's usually "Paste" from the context-menu. YUI does react to a keypress, but doesn't if anything is pasted by the mouse.

  • Getting value from key pair value into appended property using jQuery

    - by Neil
    How do I get the value from a key pair value into the rel property of an anchor tag? When I split the code to put the value in the correct place it doesn't work, the end of the a tag would appear on screen instead value wouldn't be applied. When I look at the resulting code in console in Firebug the rel and href swapped order so the rel is first. The 'key' should be and is in the correct location but the 'value' needs to be applied to the rel attribute. What am I doing wrong? $(function() { var obj = {"firstThing":"4","secondThing":"6","aThirdThing":"2","anotherThing":"3","followedByAnother":"4"}; $.each(obj, function(key,value) { $('#newmine').append("<li class='tagBlocks'>","<a href='#' rel=''>",value," ",key); }); });

  • Showing same dfp ads in a single page web application

    - by mivaas19
    I have a single page web application which contains dfp ads. I have two dfp adunits that Iam firing and they are placed in between the content which is a list of articles for a particular category. When I click on another category,it just loads articles for different category(doesnt change the url in address bar) and triggers the same ads. So this is like triggering the ads on the same page. The ads dont show up the second time and this is because you cant use the same adunits on the same page. Since I cannot use the refresh function provided by dfp since my DOM is reconstructed everytime, is there any way I can do this?.

  • Using jsAnim.js

    - by mark
    I've been trying to set up a basic test animation using jsanim.js and using their example site to set up my html, css and js. However, I just can't figure it out (not a developer...designer!) and there isn't just a simple html, css, js file to download showing how to say animate a DIV left to right. The examples of how the library works are clear but I'm lacking something in the set up and looking at their source on the site is nuts...too much going on in there. Thanks to anyone with experience with jsAnim.js http://www.jsanim.com Best, Mark
