  • Best IDE macro tools to combat the verbosity of Java syntax for someone with carpal tunnel?

    I have a bad case of carpal tunnel so I'm looking for an editor that would make my Java programming less painful (literally!). Does anyone have any recommendations for tools that you can add to Eclipse, Netbeans or other IDEs to produce some of the repetitive code that's common in Java syntax? Overall what would be the best code editor for this purpose? (I'm coding on Ubuntu, in case it matters).

  • Anyone know of a Java reporting tools which has a web based visual report designer?

    We're currently evaluating different Java reporting engines, and having a web-based ad-hoc report designer is a requirement. We don't need anything too fancy, but we need users to be able to define a report with columns X, grouped by Y, sorted by Z, etc... We've found that many of the open source tools do have graphical report designers, but the designers are typically not web based. (For example, iReport from JasperReports seems to be an application, not a web tool) Can anyone recommend a reporting tool which meets this web-based requirement?

  • Installer package for program that uses JDBC to connect to MySQL....

    I have an installer wizard thing called 'install creator'. I want to include my mySQL database into the installer or find another way that the user, upon installation, can just use my database. Prob is-not everyone has MySQL installed on the computer and even then, the user doesn't know the name of the database or my password. Somehow the database must be created automatically upon install, and for my purposes, some of the tables created. How can one do this. Thanks

    There is an ongoing argument on the web right now about the "openness" of the iPhone OS and Adobe Flash platforms. Adobe's argument is that anyone can build a Flash application without having to worry about being allowed to distribute it. This made me wonder… is it possible to build and distribute an AIR application without giving any money to Adobe (without violating any licenses, of course)? Are any of these tools free? Are any open-source?

  • Connecting to RDS database from EC2 instance using bind9 CNAME alias

    I'm trying to get internal DNS up and running on a EC2 instance. The main goal is to be able to define CNAME aliases for other AWS services. For example: Instead of using the RDS endpoint, which might change over time, an alias mysql.company.int can be used instead. I'm using bind9 and here's my config files: /etc/bind/named.conf.local zone "company.int" { type master; file "/etc/bind/db.company.int"; }; /etc/bind/db.company.int ; $TTL 3600 @ IN SOA company.int. company.localhost. ( 20120617 ; Serial 604800 ; Refresh 86400 ; Retry 2419200 ; Expire 604800 ) ; Negative Cache TTL ; @ IN NS company.int. @ IN A 127.0.0.1 @ IN AAAA ::1 ; CNAME mysql IN CNAME xxxx.eu-west-1.rds.amazonaws.com. The dig command ensures me my alias is working as excepted: $ dig mysql.company.int ... ;; ANSWER SECTION: mysql.company.int. 3600 IN CNAME xxxx.eu-west-1.rds.amazonaws.com. xxxx.eu-west-1.rds.amazonaws.com. 60 IN CNAME ec2-yyy-yy-yy-yyy.eu-west-1.compute.amazonaws.com. ec2-yyy-yy-yy-yyy.eu-west-1.compute.amazonaws.com. 589575 IN A zzz.zz.zz.zzz ... As far as I can understand a reverse zone isn't needed for a simple CNAME alias. However when I try to connect to MySQL using my newly created alias the operation is giving me a timeout. $ mysql -uuser -ppassword -hmysql.company.int ERROR 2003 (HY000): Can't connect to MySQL server on 'mysql.company.int' (110) Any ideas?   • How to recover the plesk database?

    When I try to launch the Plesk administration page of you server I get the following error: ERROR: PleskMainDBException MySQL query failed: MySQL server has gone away The MySQL Server is working well. Although it seems that the plesk database is somehow corrupt and any action on this database results in a restart of the mysql process, so even queries to other databases on the same MySQL server will be lost. If I try to connect to the plesk database using phpMyAdmin, I can only see the number of tables, the database had originally. But I am not able to open the tables listing. As soon as I try it, the mysql process crashes again. Trying to connect to the database using ssh works. I can even run a SELECT statement against any table an get a result. I don't know if it is an plesk error or an error of the psa database or even the MySQL server. Can you give me any tips on how to recover the plesk system. Should I try to repair the Plesk installation before. And if so, how can I do it and will all my settings get lost doing it? EDIT: Trying to dump the database, I get the following error: mysqldump: Got error: 2013: Lost connection to MySQL server during query when using LOCK TABLES

  • wamp cannot load mysqli extension

    WAMP installed fine, no problems, BUT... When going to phpMyAdmin, I get the error from phpMyAdmin as follows: "Cannot load mysqli extension. Please check your PHP configuration". Also, phpMyAdmin documentation explains this error message as follows: "To connect to a MySQL server, PHP needs a set of MySQL functions called "MySQL extension". This extension may be part of the PHP distribution (compiled-in), otherwise it needs to be loaded dynamically. Its name is probably mysql.so or php_mysql.dll. phpMyAdmin tried to load the extension but failed. Usually, the problem is solved by installing a software package called "PHP-MySQL" or something similar."   • handling DATETIME values 0000-00-00 00:00:00 in JDBC

    I get an exception (see below) if I try to do resultset.getString("add_date"); for a JDBC connection to a MySQL database containing a DATETIME value of 0000-00-00 00:00:00 (the quasi-null value for DATETIME), even though I'm just trying to get the value as string, not as an object. I got around this by doing SELECT CAST(add_date AS CHAR) as add_date which works, but seems silly... is there a better way to do this? My point is that I just want the raw DATETIME string, so I can parse it myself as is. note: here's where the 0000 comes in: (from http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/datetime.html) Illegal DATETIME, DATE, or TIMESTAMP values are converted to the “zero” value of the appropriate type ('0000-00-00 00:00:00' or '0000-00-00'). I've generated some Endpoint from an @Entity class, then I've generated Cloud Endpoint Client library. After that I've started the appEngine project (within eclipse, on the embedded jetty server).
