OData / WCF Data Service - HTTP 500 Error

I have created an OData/WCF service using Visual Studio 2010 on Windows XP SP3 with all current patches installed. When I click on "view in browser", the service opens and I see the 3 tables from my EF model. However, when I add a table name ("Commands" in this case) to the end of the query string, rather than seeing the data from the table, I get an HTTP 500 error. (This error (HTTP 500 Internal Server Error) means that the website you are visiting had a server problem which prevented the webpage from displaying.). I have not only followed the examples from 2 sites, but have also tried running the sample application that the blog poster sent me (that works on his machine), and still am not having any luck. The blog post is at Exposing OData from an Entity Framework Model Does anyone have an idea why this is occurring and how to resolve it? User Control SiteMap Provider Rendering Error

I have created a Custom Server Control that renders the SiteMap as a pure UL for CSS styling. At run-time it renders properly but in VS2008 Design View VS shows this error: Error Rendering Control - menuMainAn unhandled exception has occurred. The provider 'AspNetXmlSiteMapProvider' specified for the defaultProvider does not exist in the providers collection. I have 'AspNetXmlSiteMapProvider' specified in web.config as per here : link text While I am happy that the code runs properly, the Designer error is bothersome if the underlying issue might cause the code to break in some circumstances so I need to understand what is going on... The code explicitly references the sitemap in the Render Method with : int level = 1; string ul = string.Format("<div class='{0}' id='{1}'>{2}</div>", CssClassName, this.ID.ToString(), EnumerateNodesRecursive(SiteMap.RootNode, level)); output.Write(ul); and the recursive method called referrences SiteMap.CurrentNode. Otherwise there are no explicit sitemap references in the code. Does anyone have any ideas why Deisgner is complaining?

I'm creating an online game where people log in and then have the list of current players displayed. When the user enters a "room" it dispatches an SFSEvent which includes a Room object with the list of users as User objects in that room. As that event's callback function, I get the list of current users which is an Array, switch the View Stack child index, and then I wrap the user list array in an ArrayList before I assign it to the MXML Spark List component's dataSource. Force Oracle error on fetch

I am trying to debug a strange behavior in my application. In order to do so, I need to reproduce a scenario where an SQL SELECT query will throw an error, but only while actually fetching from the cursor, not while executing the query itself. Can this be done? Any error will do, but ORA-01722: invalid number seems like the obvious one to try. I created a table with the follwing: KEYCOL INTEGER PRIMARY KEY OTHERCOL VARCHAR2(100) I then created a few hundred rows with unique values for the primary key and the value l for the othercol. I then ran a SELECT * query, picked a row somewhere in the middle, and updated it to the string abcd. I ran the query SELECT KEYCOL, TO_NUMBER(OTHERCOL) FROM SOMETABLE hoping to get some rows of good data an then an error later. But I keep getting ORA-01722: invalid number on the execute step itself. I have gotten this behavior programmatically using ADO (with server-side cursor) and JDBC, as well as from PL/SQL Developer. How can I get the result I'm looking for? thanks Edit - meant to add, when using ADO, I am only calling Command.Execute. I am not creating or opening a Recordset.

error detection/correction/recovery in serial protocols

I have some designing to do for a serial protocol and am running into some questions that I figure must have been considered elsewhere. So I'm wondering if there are some recommendations for best practices in designing serial protocols. (Please either state a fact that is easily verifiable, or cite a reputable source if you make a claim.) General recommendations for websites/books are also welcome. In particular I have to deal with issues like parsing a stream of bytes into packets verifying a packet is correct (easy with a CRC, for instance) identifying reasonable types of errors that can occur (e.g. in a point-to-point serial stream, sporadic single bit errors, and dropped series of bytes, are both likely, but extra phantom bytes are unlikely; whereas with a record stored in flash memory or on a disk drive the types of errors that predominate are different) error correction or recovery (if I detect an error in a packet, can I correct it? If not, can I resync to the boundary of the next packet?) how to make variable-length packets robust to error correction / recovery. Any suggestions?

nginx error: (99: Cannot assign requested address)

is_array($src2->crit) is generating an "Undefined property: stdClass::$crit" error. The line throwing the error is: if(is_array($src2->crit) && count($src->crit) > 0){ $src2->crit is initialized here. $src2->crit = array(); $src2->crit[0] = new dataSet(); $src2->crit[0]->tblName = $tbl2; $src2->crit[0]->colName = "ID"; $src2->crit[0]->val = $elm->editID; When testing $src2->crit with this code. print("\$src->crit is a ".$src->crit."<br />"); print_r($src->crit); print("<br />"); This is returned. $src2->crit is a Array Array ( [0] => dataSet Object ( [tblName] => sExam [colName] => ID [val] => 10 ) ) What am I not seeing/understanding correctly? gpg error - connection already closed?

omg... hope someone can help me because I am so lost as to what to try next.... I don't know what is causing the error to happen, and I don't see how to figure it out... Keep going between the pgloader.conf examples and what I have, and I don't understand why I keep getting the 'connection already closed' error? The first few lines of my fr.conf is at the very end... I'd really appreciate / love some guidance here... Been trying to get this thing going all morning, and am even getting stuck just on this part... Graceful DOS Command Error-Handling

PHP 5.2.13 on Windows 2003 I am using the DOS Start /B command to launch a background application using the PHP popen() function: popen("start /B {$_SERVER['HOMEPATH']}/{$app}.exe > {$_SERVER['HOMEPATH']}/bg_output.log 2>&1 & echo $!", 'r'); The popen() function launches a cmd.exe process that runs the specified command; however, if the command fails (e.g. the {$app}.exe doesn't exist or is locked in the above example), the cmd.exe process never returns, and PHP hangs indefinitely as a result. Calling the failing DOS command directly using the Command Prompt results in an Error prompt that requires clicking the OK button. I assume this error confirmation requirement is what's preventing the cmd.exe process from returning to PHP both from the Command Prompt (using both CGI and CLI) and the web (using Apache 2.0 handler w/Apache 2.2). Is there a way to write the DOS command or configure the server or cmd.exe app itself to return the DOS error to the originating call rather than waiting for confirmation?

ActionScript 3.0 Color Output Error?

I'm employing color in a current AS3 project, and have come across what appears to be an error in the Flash Player (version 10). it might also be an error with Apple's DigitalColor Meter (version 3.7.2), which is what i'm using to sample the displayed colors on Mac OS X Snow Leopard (version 10.6.3). //Primary, secondary, and tertiary colors of the RGB color wheel var red:Number = 0xFF0000; var orange:Number = 0xFF7D00; var yellow:Number = 0xFFFF00; var chartreuse:Number = 0x7DFF00; var green:Number = 0x00FF00; var spring:Number = 0x00FF7D; var cyan:Number = 0x00FFFF; var azure:Number = 0x007DFF; //reads 0x0077FF var blue:Number = 0x0000FF; var violet:Number = 0x7D00FF; var magenta:Number = 0xFF00FF; //reads 0xFF00F8 var rose:Number = 0xFF007D; //reads 0xFF0077 all of these colors display normally except for 3: Azure, Magenta and Rose. they are coded with the appropriate number, but when i use the color meter to sample the displayed colors, those 3 return inaccurate results. anyone have any insight about this issue? what is causing the error, the Flash runtime or the color sampler? if it's the Flash player, could this problem be much deeper? *sampling this image will return inaccurate results due to .jpg compression. it's simply for illustration

Javascript function with PHP throwing a "Illegally Formed XML Syntax" error

I'm trying to learn some javascript and i'm having trouble figuring out why my code is incorrect (i'm sure i'm doing something wrong lol), but anyways I am trying to create a login page so that when the form is submitted javascript will call a function that checks if the login is in a mysql database and then checks the validity of the password for the user if they exist. however I am getting an error (Illegally Formed XML Syntax) i cannot resolve. Try and catch error trapping. why is it so significant

sorry if it sounds dumb ' as i am i a process of learnning java i try to understand , why on earth i should "try" a method to catch errors. it looks to me like the concept is:- ' letting a process run assuming its not properly developed. should i always assume that a program based on classes and inheritance is bound for unexpected errors, which i should handle with such a heavy tools like try catch throw throws ? should all java programs be included withing try catch framework? Yesterday I formatted my computer and did fresh install as it was due from long time. After the fresh install when I tried to install Semantic Search application using powershell, I was stopped by following error. Open the Powershell window and type following two lines and everything will fine right after that. Set-ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted Set-ExecutionPolicy RemoteSigned Again, this is I have done for my environment where I am very careful what I will run. You can change the policy back to original restricted policy if you want to restrict future execution of the powershell scripts. Simple – isn’t it? Internal WordPress pages all 404 when using WAMP

I have a problem when using WAMP while designing and coding my site. Well, I have a local version of Wordpress installed in WAMP and use it as a tool to see my changes when coding. I also have the same files uploaded to some free hosting. The problem is when I want to access for example http://localhost/contact. Browser gives me a 404 error. As I said, the same files (exact copy from my PC) are on the web here and when I go to http://thefalljourneyindia.iblogger.org/contact it opens the page fine (without the style of course because I haven't made one yet). Why is that and how do I get to see all of my pages locally like I can when the WP installation is online?

Best Practice for Images in Facebook Pages

Hello I am looking for best practices when it comes to uploading images on facebook fan pages. I notice on Dell, US Cellular, and the Gap that they load all of their images on one of their web servers. Are there any alternatives? I was hoping for something like being able to upload photos and then hide the gallery. But I couldn't find anything like that. The reason that I ask is that I have access to someone's facebook fan page but not to their webserver so it would be extra work to email someone who does have access the photos and have them upload them to their web server.

Printing multiple pages per sheet doesn't work

In Ubuntu 12.04, I added a network printer which I had previously used without any problems on a different machine (with the same release of Ubuntu). Now, with the default generic driver installed, printing multiple pages per sheet from evince doesn't work properly. If I select 2 per sheet, be it long or short edge, it always prints 4. Why is this? It used to happen with non-pdf documents in the past, like from a browser. My workaround was to print to pdf file and then print the pdf itself. Now I'm clueless... Edit: the same happens with a different network printer, in which I installed the driver specific to its particular model.

Pointing a subdomain to Github Pages

I set up an Octopress blog on Github Pages at myusername.github.com. I now want blog.myusername.me (which currently has a Wordpress blog set up) to point to this Octopress blog. So I followed the instructions here on setting up a custom domain: I ran echo 'blog.myusername.me' >> source/CNAME in my Octopress repository, and then ran rake generate and rake deploy to deploy it to Github. I went to Namecheap, and added a new CNAME under my myusername.me domain: "blog - myusername.github.com - CNAME". Waited a couple hours. However, now when I go to myusername.github.com, it redirects me to blog.myusername.me (which is my old Wordpress blog), which seems like the inverse of what I want. (Going to blog.myusername.me directly still shows my Wordpress blog.) I checked http://www.whatsmydns.net/#CNAME/blog.myusername.me and it seems like my DNS has propagated (myusername.github.com shows up in the right-hand side). Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

HTML 5, Fluid Pages and Google Mobile Index

I am currently migrating my site to HTML5, at the same time designing pages so that they are "fluid" and are equally presentable for a mobile or a large screen. I took the fluid approach so as not to have to develop a separate application for mobile devices and I'm pleasantly surprised with the results that look equally as good on an iPhone as they do on a large screen. Then I went into the Google Webmaster Tools facility and became aware of the Google Mobile Index. I'm confused now as HTML5 doesn't seem to be supported by Google Mobile Indexing. Does this mean that when I go live with my new "pride and joy" HTML5 site on a mobile it won't appear on any Google searches as it's not in the Google Mobile Index?

Security Issues When Creating Pages in SharePoint

I was speaking (or rather IM'ing) with Ben Collins a while back and he came across an interesting problem that I wanted to document for the sake of posterity. If you have a SharePoint user who has permissions to create a page in a page library, but that user is having security issues trying to actually make a page, then it the security issue may be related to their access rights on the master page gallery. Users who create pages must have at least restricted read access to the master page gallery for page creation to succeed. That is one of the joys of working in SharePoint. if something doesn't show up there is usually a good but obscure reason for it, but SharePoint certainly won't tell you outright why it is. All I have to say is that I'm glad he ran into that issue and not me.

Google Search not displaying results from sub-pages

I published a new site with some delicate content on September 26, 2012 UTC and no results from sub-pages - only from the main page - appear in Google Search. Entering "neven lovric" "cat out of the bag" into Google Search finds the main page. Is this type of behavior normal? I ask this because the first site was ceased - my account was locked - by the NameCheap, Inc. Risk Assessment Team, allegedly due to PayPal, Inc. reversing my payment for the extension of the registration of the domain before I was able to publish any content on it. In 2011 UTC, Google, Inc. blocked all results for certain keywords from being displayed to their users in the Arab Republic of Egypt during the demonstrations there. So, considering previous events, this is not an unlikely scenario in this case, also.
