• More than 3 seconds "Initial Connection" time (webpagetest.org)

  I'm having a weird issue with a vBulletin forum, on a 2? Xeon E5645 w/ 16GB RAM, cPanel and LiteSpeed webserver; It takes too long to start loading... When I tested it with webpagetest.org I saw that for every request there's a 3 second "Initial connection" delay, which I don't know why is happening. Here's a screenshot: CPU Load is between 0.03 and 0.05, I've got several GB of free RAM, practical no I/O activity, and this delay can occur even with only one visitor on the forum. Where do you suggest I start searching? What could be the reason for this kind of delay? I don't think it's the webserver, or the forum because there's another website on the server (total 2 sites) which is WordPress based, and has exactly the same issue with the 3 second initial connection delay. I believe it's OS related, but need a clue on where to start looking. Thanks in advance :)

• Ubuntu - why would /var/log/dmesg stop updating after boot? does not show panic/cpu_hung errors which the console shows

  So I have an Ubuntu 10.04 install VM on a host. Latest 2.6.38-15-server kernel . /var/log/dmesg displays only the bootup but will stop recording after that. It will not show the trace/cpu_hung errors I am trying to troubleshoot. /var/log/dmesg.0 , dmesg.1 nothing - I did a string search for the text that displays on the console during the crash and NOTHING gets logged anywhere in /var/log/* . I have to call into the provider and ask them to take a screenshot of the console since nothing shows in dmesg. Why would /var/log/dmesg not record kernel panics, or such?

• Music Nav Doesn't Work After Installing IntelliType

  I have started using a Microsoft Sidewinder X4 Keyboard. It came with the Microsoft IntelliType Pro software. Since I have installed the software I am not able to change my music via the play | previous | next buttons at the top of the keyboard. I use iTunes and not Windows Media Player. How do I solve this issue? Here is a screenshot of the Keyboard Properties: Note: I am on Windows 8 using iTunes 11. Uninstalling the IntelliType software is not an option as I use the macros.

• How can I exceed the 60% Memory Limit of IIS7

  Pardon if this is more stackoverflow vs. serverfault. It seems to be on the border. We have an application that caches a large amount of product data for an e-commerce application using ASP.NET caching. This is a dictionary object with 65K elements, and our calculations put the object's size at ~10GB. Problem: The amount of memory the object consumes seems to be far in excess of our 10GB calculation. BIGGEST CONCERN: We can't seem to use over 60% of the 32GB in the server. What we've tried so far: In machine.config/system.web (sf doesn't allow the tags, pardon the formatting): processModel autoConfig="true" memoryLimit="80" In web.config/system.web/caching/cache (sf doesn't allow the tags, pardon the formatting): privateBytesLimit = "20000000000" (and 0, the default of course) percentagePhysicalMemoryUsedLimit = "90" Environment: Windows 2008R2 x64 32GB RAM IIS7 Nothing seems to allow us to exceed the 60% value. • Changing the cell range of conditional formatting in LibreOffice Calc

  Is there any way of changing the range of conditional formatting in LibreOffice Calc (version 3.6)? I have a set applied already to a range of cells, but there is no obvious way of changing which cells a given set of conditional formatting is applied to. I either have to copy and paste the formatting, which results in multiple entries in the conditional formatting (which makes it difficult to manage), or delete the entire thing and create a new one every single time I want to change the range of cells. • Antialias not working in ubuntu lucid lynx 10.04

  I have recently upgraded from karmic to lucid (plain ubuntu using gnome). Everything worked fine, but the characters now aren't anti-aliased any more, as you can appreciate from the screenshot: This is what I tried to fix the situation, unluckily without succeeding: Used the regular option pane from System-Preference-Appearance-Font (smoothing, hinting...) Edited the .fonts.conf file Disinstalling (and then re-installing) the mstcorefont package Changing the default Sans font to a font of my liking (e.g. Tahoma) from the abovementioned Appearance options My ubuntu installation is quite standard, with the typical add-ons one might wish for usability. I used the ubuntu start script to make a few tweaks. Thank you in advance for your help! :)

• Vim snippets pop-up but don't complete

  I'm using spf13-vim in Fedora. When I try to use a snippet, I get options that pop up but when I don't know how to actually insert the snippet. For example, if I type for in a .cpp file, I get four options. I'm assuming I'm supposed to either hit tab or enter to insert them but neither works. I'm not even sure which vim plugin it is that the snippets come from (snipmate? neocomplcache?).Screenshot. The same problem happens in vim and gvim.

• Why is my firewall preventing me from accessing some websites

  I have an old Belkin router and when I enable the firewall I cannot access certain websites. For example: http://www.avisynth.org With Firewall Enabled: Main page loads and begins to do a meta refresh which never finishes. With Firewall Disabled: Main page loads and the meta refresh completes as normal and I am taken to the wiki page. I have not setup any rules in my firewall that would prevent this site from loading, yet it refuses to load unless I have the firewall disabled completely. My router has a hidden page with advanced settings on it for the firewall which I was able to acccess and take a screenshot of, but I did not want to mess with these values unless I absolutely have to do so: What might be causing this problem and how would I go about fixing it?

• Flash player displays incorrect colours

  This is not a webapps issue, so please don't move it there. This is an issue with Flash, not with one specific website, as shown in this screenshot: This issue appears to come and go with time, it often also manifests as 'stuttering' playback with audio corruption and strange artifacts on the frames. I tried to uninstall/reinstall Flash a while back when it first started to do this, and that worked briefly, then it came back. Now reinstalling it doesn't fix the problem, even temporarily. Any ideas on the cause and/or a solution?

• Windows 7 System process reading/writing like crazy

  I have a problem that my windows 7 computer sometimes starts accessing the disk like crazy for maybe 10 minutes at a time. The process in question is the "system" process. I have disabled superfetch and hibernation on my computer, if that makes any difference. I disabled those to see if they were the cause of the problems, but no change. I have 6 GB of RAM and only the web browser was started when I took the screenshot, so I don't think it was thrashing due to page faults. Any ideas on how to find the cause of this?

• Find running processes created by Mac Automator

  Is there any way to view automator process that are running? About a year ago I created a workflow or something similar in Mac's Automator. When I took screenshots mac would place them on the desktop. I created a small script to take move those screenshots to a different folder. I want to change what folder those are saved in now. Problem is, I can't figure out how to edit my workflow. The biggest problem, I don't know where the workflow/file is stored. The process is always running so anytime I take a screenshot it is moved. Is there any way to view automator process that are running? Also, I know there are other ways to make screenshots appear in different folders. I still want to find this process/script and kill it =) Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

• iTunes Title Bar is Equal to the Location of the Library file?

  I have never been able to get a clear answer on why the latest edition of iTunes does this. I have my entire iTunes library located in C:\itunes\ and the library data files inside C:\itunes\!library_info for backup purposes. However when version 9 of iTunes came out it went from having iTunes as the title, to !library_info. Anyway to get around this without moving my data files away? Annoying "feature" if that is what it is. Again Apple support and forums were of no help to me. Anyone have insight on this? • No option for keeping installed programs when upgrading Windows 7 to Windows 8

  (Related : How can I upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8 and keep my files and applications? ) I'm trying to upgrade my Windows 7 Pro (msdnaa) to Windows 8 Pro (msdnaa). The Windows 8 is the final version (I don't have access to previews on msdnaa anymore). As you can see on the related question accepted answer, Windows 8 should give an option to keep installed programs. But it does not. The only available options are "Keep only personal datas" and "Nothing". Any idea ? I'm running with SP1. I've got two partitions (one of them only contains data of a virtual machine). • Static Routes and the Routing Table

  This is very much a learning question if someone would be happy to explain a couple of concepts. My question is - the default routing table that exists in, in my case, a default Windows 7 install, what do each of the routes in the table do? Here is a screenshot: The 10.128.4.0 is just a route I've added while messing. I understand from a question I posted on Superuser the first route is just a default route that will route all traffic for any IP to my default gateway on my Interface in use. But what about the others? And how would the routing table handle a machine with multiple NIC's, perhaps connected to two different networks, or maybe even two NIC's on the same network so a VM can have a physical Network card instead of each VM sharing the hosts. • Looking for a text editor with navigation/categorization

  I've been looking for a text editor that automatically (or at least makes it easy to-) make some sort of navigation. Adobe Reader has this functionality with its bookmark system: Right now, though, I'm using Word 2007. For each section, I go Insert Bookmark, highlight the text, copy/paste the text as the link information, and it appears at the top of the document. I've made a macro to add bookmarks easier, but it's still pretty awful, and the bookmarks are still at the top of the page (rather than in the sidebar, where it's always accessible) Honestly, I would just prefer to write it in a PDF like in that screenshot. But any text editor with this type of functionality would work. It just needs basic formatting options, bold/font size, underline, images, maybe tables.

• NFS-Root not working when booting over PXE

  I am desperately trying to get a diskless client running over PXE-Boot using a NFS-Share as a root file system. I did this before some years ago but for some reason I am stucked at this since days. The TFTP-Server itself is running fine and booting a netinstaller works also fine. The kernel and initrd are loaded also but the bootprocess stops with this (screenshot) kernel panic. I'm using the squeeze standard i386-Kernel and I have prepared the initrd with this config: MODULES=most BUSYBOX=y KEYMAP=n COMPRESS=gzip BOOT=nfs DEVICE= NFSROOT=auto I also tried MODULES=netboot with the same outcome. My PXE-configuration looks like this: LABEL linux KERNEL diskless/debian-default/vmlinuz-2.6.32-5-686 APPEND root=/dev/nfs initrd=diskless/debian-default/vmlinuz-2.6.32-5-686 nfsroot=192.168.140.2:/storage/nfs-boot-images/default-squeeze ip=dhcp rw Furthermore I have captured the network communication of the client via tcpdump and learned that the client isn't even trying to connect to the NFS-share. Does anybody has got an idea what is going wrong here?

• Upgrade AirPort on Macs to support Snow Leopard's Wake on Wireless/WLAN?

  Snow Leopard now supports Wake on WLAN, but not all hardware supports this. For example, my Octo Mac Pro from early 2008 has an AirPort card, but it does not support this. Nor does my 2007 2.33GHz MacBook Pro. For reference to what is needed, look at http://www.macrumors.com/2009/08/28/a-closer-look-at-snow-leopards-wake-on-demand-feature/ which includes a screenshot of what the System Profiler should show. It's pretty hard to find Apple parts, but is it possible to put newer cards into these machines to have them support Wake on Wireless?

• Windows 7 context menu not disappearing after selecting an option

  I have a very annoying problem for several days now. Whenever I open context menu in any application on my Windows and select any option it does not disappear correctly. The option I choose is always visiable and what's even more annoying it's beign displayed over any other application. The only solution I've found at the moment is to change a display resolution and restore it. That makes it disappear but it's very annoying because I have to do that always after using context menus. • unknown module in my server to get PHP errors in HTML tables

  Sorry to ask this... I manage Apache and PHP in my computer. But having installed a lot of things, I've lost track of some of them. (Things I find really useful to have at my job, or to restore in case of emergency). The problem is that I have installed this thing which displays PHP errors in a nice and colored html table, but can't remember what I have installed or configured to get it work like it. • Decrease the height of title bar in Visual Studio 2012 on secondary screen

  I have two screens on my VS2012. No problems with title bar on the main screen, on the secondary however, the title bar takes up lots of space - see screenshot attached. In VS2010, for example, the title bar on secondary screen is a lot thinier. I guess this change was made to address touch interfaces (??) but it is highly inconvenient to waste some much space just because of that. Anybody knows how the change just the height of the title bar on the secondary screen?

• CNet router - no field for private port

  I'm trying to configure port forwarding on my CNet router for a locally hosted HTTP server. The model number of my router is CQR-981 and the firmware version is 1.0.43. The problem is that there's no field to enter the private port of the HTTP server (the local port). According to the manual there should be one. Perhaps manually make an HTTP request to the HTTP server on the router to update the table with the private port number, or perhaps update my firmware to solve this problem.

• iDeneb OS X Issues

  This afternoon I installed OS X Leopard on my computer through iDeneb. It mostly worked, but I have a few issues. Firstly, it doesn't seem like it's detecting my graphics card properly. I have a Nvidia 8800GT 512mb installed. As you can see in the screenshot below, it's not detecting it and limiting me to a resolution of 1024x768 (which is a pain in the arse to use) Secondly, I don't have any sound. It's not a massive issue like the graphics issue above, but I'd still like to get it rectified. Thirdly, (this is a very small one) my numlock light doesn't seem to be functioning. I don't really care as the numpad still works, but it would be nice to have the numlock light working. Can anyone lend a hand with any of those problems? Thanks. (bump for great justice)

• What's using up my memory?

  I already know what's causing this -- it's the driver for FancyCache, which I'd installed myself. But as you can see, nothing in the screenshot tells me anything about this. I just happen to know. So the question is, if I didn't know this, how would I figure out what's using up so much of my RAM? (For reference: It's currently 1.7 GiB used, and the "missing" amount -- for FancyCache -- is 512 MiB. Clearly, that extra half-gigabyte not showing up anywhere I can see below.)

• Why does Komodo edit not open files on doubleclick due to some path encoding error?

  When I double click a file in finder to open in Komodo edit, it displays an error message saying it can't find the file and the path is displayed, but with wrong encoding, such that special characters such as "ó" and "ð" are displayed as some weird boxes. Screenshot: http://i51.tinypic.com/2qkleg4.jpg I'm running OSX Snow Leopard 10.6.4 and Komodo Edit version 5: "Komodo Edit, version 5.2.4, build 4343, platform macosx-x86. Built on Tue Dec 8 18:18:35 2009." When I drag the file into Komodo edit it opens just fine displaying the path correctly with "ó"s and all :P This doesn't happen if I right click the file in finder and select to open it with TextEdit or Word or (God forbid) MacVim - only when I select to open it in Komodo edit. This is annoying as all hell.

• After installing Windows Phone 8 SDK, Connectify doesn't work

  Today I installed Windows Phone 8 SDK from the official site. After installing and a couple of restarts (it restarted the PC to enable Hyper-V), I opened Connectify. I use Connectify Hotspot to connect my iPod to the internet as I have an ethernet connection and no wireless router. The problem is that now, Connectify doesn't show WiFi in Share Over. The attached screenshot shows this. Previously, before I installed the SDK, it would show Ethernet and Wi-Fi. I would select WiFi and share my internet. Now, this is completely screwed. EDIT: I found out that the Microsoft Virtual Wi-Fi Miniport Driver has got disabled and I am not able to enable it again. Please advise. Please advise on what to do Hardware: Windows 8 Pro with Media Center, Apple MacBook Pro 9,1 15 inch Mid-2012 (non retina)
