    Hi, I've created a basic windows service installation using Inno Setup. both install and uninstall works properly. However, I'm having issues with upgrading the service executable. it is needed to stop the service, and only ofter the service is completly stopped- the new executables should be placed in the target folder. how can I execute a service-stop command and wait for the service to actually stopped before the file copy step is initiate? thanks!

  • Java Thread Management and Application Flow

    I have a Java application that downloads information (Entities) from our server. I use a Download thread to download the data. The flow of the download process is as follows: Log in - The user entity is downloaded Based on the User Entity, download a 'Community' entities List and Display in drop down Based on Community drop down selection, Download and show 'Org Tree' in a JTree Based on Node selection, download Category entities and display in drop down Based on Category selection, download Sub Category entities and display in drop down Based on Sub Category selection download a large data set and save it The download occurs in a thread so the GUI does not 'freeze'. It also allows me to update a Progress Bar. I need help with managing this process. The main problem is when I download entity data I have to find a way to wait for the thread to finish before attempting to get the entity and move to the next step in the app flow. So far I have used a modal dialog to control flow. I start the thread, pop up a modal and then dispose of the modal when the thread is finished. The modal/thread are Observer/Observable the thread does a set changed when it is finished and the dialog disposes. Displaying a modal effectively stops the flow of the application so it can wait for the download to finish. I also tried just moving all the work flow to Observers. All relevant GUI in the process are Observers. Each update method waits for the download to finish and then calls the next piece of GUI which does its own downloading. So far I found these two methods produce code that is hard to follow. I would like to 'centralize' this work flow so other developers are not pulling out their hair when they try to follow it. My Question is: Do you have any suggestions/examples where a work flow such as this can be managed in a way that produces code that is easy to follow? I know 'easy' is a relative term and I know my both my options already work but I would like to get some ideas from other coders while I still have time to change it. Thank you very much.

  • jquery finish one animation then start the other one

    I have one two divs and two seperate links that triggers slideDown and slideUp for the divs. When one of the divs are slided down and I click the other one, I hide the first div (slidingUp) and then open the other div (slidingDown) but, at the moment its like while one div is sliding down, the other, also in the same time, is sliding up. is there a way that would tell jquery to wait to finish sliding down of one div and only then start sliding up the other ?

    Hi, How can I do long-polling using netty framework? Say for example I fetch http://localhost/waitforx but waitforx is asynchronous because it has to wait for an event? Say for example it fetches something from a blocking queue(can only fetch when data in queue). When getting item from queue I would like to sent data back to client.   • Is it possible to programatically catch JavaScript SyntaxErrors?

    I don't think that this is doable, but wanted to throw it out to the community to confirm my suspicions. Let's say you're writing a program in another language like Python, PHP, or ASP. This program is intended to build another program written in JavaScript. However, the first program is unfortunately not immune to errors. So, occasionally, the program which builds the JavaScript program does some funky stuff and outputs a syntax error in the JavaScript source. Now some user goes and loads the program and it essentially halts, because the web browser running it can't properly parse the JavaScript. This user is probably not going to be happy. I wouldn't be. This brings me to my question. Is it possible to write an error handler that would catch these kind of syntax problems allowing the application to fail gracefully? Here's an example: <html> <head> <script type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8"> window.onerror = errorHandler; function errorHandler(a,b,c) { alert('horray!     Hello: I'm tyring to remove lowercase sentence fragments from standard text files using regular expresions or a simple Perl oneliner. These are commonly referred to as speech or attribution tags, for example - he said, she said, etc. This example shows before and after using manual deletion: Original: "Ah, that's perfectly true!" exclaimed Alyosha. "Oh, do leave off playing the fool! Some idiot comes in, and you put us to shame!" cried the girl by the window, suddenly turning to her father with a disdainful and contemptuous air. "Wait a little, Varvara!" cried her father, speaking peremptorily but looking at them quite approvingly. "That's her character," he said, addressing Alyosha again. "Where have you been?" he asked him. "I think," he said, "I've forgotten something... my handkerchief, I think.... Well, even if I've not forgotten anything, let me stay a little." He sat down. Father stood over him. "You sit down, too," said he. All lower case sentence fragments manually removed: "Ah, that's perfectly true!" "Oh, do leave off playing the fool! Some idiot comes in, and you put us to shame!" "Wait a little, Varvara!" "That's her character," "Where have you been?" "I think," "I've forgotten something... my handkerchief, I think.... Well, even if I've not forgotten anything, let me stay a little." He sat down. Father stood over him. "You sit down, too," I've changed straight quotes " to balanced and tried: ” (...)+[.] Of course, this removes some fragments but deletes some text in balanced quotes and text starting with uppercase letters. [^A-Z] didn't work in the above expression. I realize that it may be impossible to achieve 100% accuracy but any useful expression, perl, or python script would be deeply appreciated. Cheers, Aaron

I'm looking for a way to open all the files at once - in BeyondCompare for example this would open all the files in tabs within the same BC window. This would make it easier to review a complex set of changes; flick back and forwards between the diff files and ignore unimportant files.

What I would like to do, if for some reason the connection to the Server is ended, is keep trying to connect every minute or so. If I start a Timer to wait for a period of time before the next attempt, does that timer run asynchronously and the resulting Tick event join the main thread, or would I need to start my own thread and start the timer from within there?

    I want to make a form that will use jquery to submit a list of keyword to a php file, this file could take a lot of time to load depending on the size of the keywords list. What I want to do is to load the php response into a div or container in real time without using iframes. All the ajax request I know have to wait until the request has finished before having access to the response, I need to get access to that response even when it hasn't finished so I can update the progress in real time.
