• Debian Unstable + Postfix 2.6.5 + dkim-filter 2.8.2 issue

  I have Postfix installed on Debian Unstable, as the title states, the system is completely up-to-date, I have tried to get DKIM signatures working on outgoing mail using dkim-filter 2.8.2. I couldn't use the default Debian way of doing things with sockets, instead I used the Ubuntu way: SOCKET="inet:12345@localhost"` I have the following in my postfix/main.cf milter_default_action = accept milter_protocol = 6 smtpd_milters = inet:localhost:12345 non_smtpd_milters = inet:localhost:12345 All is fine except I get the following message I start DKIM in mail.log: dkim-filter[22029]: can't configure DKIM library; continuing And when it tries to sign mails I get the following error: postfix/cleanup[22042]: warning: milter inet:localhost:12345: can't read SMFIC_EOH reply packet header: Success And then dkim-filter daemon stops. I've looked through Google but found no actual way to fix this that works for me. I have this working fine on an Ubuntu server but would love to get it working on Debian too.

• How to specify file permission when putting a file using OpenSSH sftp command

  I am using various SFTP clients for uploading files to an SFTP server and I have a problem with default permission used when putting files. When requesting to put a file, SFTP client like WinSCP or Filezilla will send the SSH_OPEN command without requesting any explicit file permission. On the other side, it looks like the OpenSSH sftp command on Linux (Red Hat and Ubuntu) is pending the SSH_OPEN command together with the '640' mode. How can I configure the OpenSSH command to not explictly set the file mode or how can I configure it to send a mode, other than 640? Many thanks! • Upgrade MySQL on Plesk on Windows

  I just got a nasty surprise when I installed a website in Unicode Hindi (Indian language) on a server, all freshly entered unicode data is turning into question marks on the server. On my dev machine it works perfectly. I found that I have MySQL version 5.0.45 (installed in default by Plesk I guess). On my dev machine i have version 5.1.33. I believe the problem could be due to the version difference. The new version of MySQL apparently has better support for Unicode than the older one. I want to upgrade MySQL on my Windows Server machine with Plesk installed on it I am reluctant to just install the new version using the mysql installer because Plesk maintains some custom settings for mysql and I am afraid the new version could change those settings and break my db. Can anyone tell me do I have to do anything special to install MySQL on plesk on windows or can I just use the new version installer?

• Windows virtual wifi hostednetwork - set max number of clients?

  I'm building an app that has functionality that creates on the fly a new virtual wifi utilizing the Windows 7 / 2008 features. I can create it just fine, but am looking how to limit the maximum number of connections. By running a "netsh wlan show hostednetwork" command to view my settings - it shows (by default 100), but it HAS to be somewhere in the registry right? - I can't see any settings available for this either at the command line or using the api - so I have to assume it's stored in the reg. I see vwifi and hostednetwork registry keys in HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\ - Wlansvc\parameters\hostednetworksettings, etc... but can't find any reference to add a "MaxClients" value (or similar) - would like to limit it to only one connection. Has anyone seen any references to this, or know how to do it?

• Exitus Acta Probat: The Post-Processing Module

  Sometimes, one has to make certain ethical compromises to ensure the success of a corporate IT project. Exitus Acta Probat (literally 'the result validates the deeds' meaning that the ends justify the means)It was a while back, whilst working as a Technical Architect for a well-known international company, that I was given the task of designing the architecture of a rather specialized accounting system. We'd tried an off-the-shelf (OTS) Windows-based solution which crashed with dispiriting regularity, and didn't quite do what the business required. After a great deal of research and planning, we commissioned a Unux-based system that used X-terminals for the desktops of  the participating staff. X terminals are now obsolete, but were then hot stuff; stripped-down Unix workstations that provided client GUIs for networked applications long before the days of AJAX, Flash, Air and DHTML. I've never known a project go so smoothly: I'd been initially rather nervous about going the Unix route, believing then that  Unix programmers were excitable creatures who were prone to  indulge in role-play enactments of elves and wizards at the weekend, but the programmers I met from the company that did the work seemed to be rather donnish, earnest, people who quickly grasped our requirements and were faultlessly professional in their work.After thinking lofty thoughts for a while, there was considerable pummeling of keyboards by our suppliers, and a beautiful robust application was delivered to us ahead of dates.Soon, the department who had commissioned the work received shiny new X Terminals to replace their rather depressing lavatory-beige PCs. I modestly hung around as the application was commissioned and deployed to the department in order to receive the plaudits. They didn't come. Something was very wrong with the project. I couldn't put my finger on the problem, and the users weren't doing any more than desperately and futilely searching the application to find a fault with it.Many times in my life, I've come up against a predicament like this: The roll-out of an application goes wrong and you are hearing nothing that helps you to discern the cause but nit-*** noise. There is a limit to the emotional heat you can pack into a complaint about text being in the wrong font, or an input form being slightly cramped, but they tried their best. The answer is, of course, one that every IT executive should have tattooed prominently where they can read it in emergencies: In Vino Veritas (literally, 'in wine the truth', alcohol loosens the tongue. A roman proverb) It was time to slap the wallet and get the department down the pub with the tab in my name. It was an eye-watering investment, but hedged with an over-confident IT director who relished my discomfort. To cut a long story short, The real reason gushed out with the third round. We had deprived them of their PCs, which had been good for very little from the pure business perspective, but had provided them with many hours of happiness playing computer-based minesweeper and solitaire. There is no more agreeable way of passing away the interminable hours of wage-slavery than minesweeper or solitaire, and the employees had applauded the munificence of their employer who had provided them with the means to play it. I had, unthinkingly, deprived them of it.I held an emergency meeting with our suppliers the following day. I came over big with the notion that it was in their interests to provide a solution. They played it cool, probably knowing that it was my head on the block, not theirs. In the end, they came up with a compromise. they would temporarily descend from their lofty, cerebral stamping grounds  in order to write a server-based Minesweeper and Solitaire game for X Terminals, and install it in a concealed place within the system. We'd have to pay for it, though. I groaned. How could we do that? "Could we call it a 'post-processing module?" suggested their account executive.And so it came to pass. The application was a resounding success. Every now and then, the staff were able to indulge in some 'post-processing', with what turned out to be a very fine implementation of both minesweeper and solitaire. There were several refinements: A single click in a 'boss' button turned the games into what looked just like a financial spreadsheet.  They even threw in a multi-user version of Battleships. The extra payment for the post-processing module went through the change-control process without anyone untoward noticing, and peace once more descended. Only one thing niggles. Those games were good. Do they still survive, somewhere in a Linux library? If so, I'd like to claim a small part in their production.

  I was setting the MySQL Replication for master - slave/master - slave and Replication for master - slave its works fine but when i have enable this option in my.cnf log-slave-updates=1 for updating the master bin log my replications is starting be slower and the time Seconds_Behind_Master is growing. I use innodb engine but the DB is big. Any idea how i can improve the replication, looks like the network is not the issue. Also i was think to use binlog_format=ROW but master is using default setting for replication 'statement' and i cant reset master ;) Thanks ...

  In the MEF (Managed Extension Framework) for .NET, there are useful ComposablePartCatalog implementations in System.ComponentModel.Composition.dll, like: System.ComponentModel.Composition.Hosting.AggregateCatalog System.ComponentModel.Composition.Hosting.AssemblyCatalog System.ComponentModel.Composition.Hosting.DirectoryCatalog System.ComponentModel.Composition.Hosting.TypeCatalog While in Silverlight, there is a extra System.ComponentModel.Composition.Hosting.DeploymentCatalog. As a wrapper of AssemblyCatalog, it can load all assemblies in a XAP file in the web server side. Unfortunately, in silverlight there is no DirectoryCatalog to load a folder. Background There are scenarios that Silverlight application may need to load all XAP files in a folder in the web server side, for example: If the Silverlight application is extensible and supports plug-ins, there would be a /ClinetBin/Plugins/ folder in the web server, and each pluin would be an individual XAP file in the folder. In this scenario, after the application is loaded and started up, it would like to load all XAP files in /ClinetBin/Plugins/ folder. If the aplication supports themes, there would be a /ClinetBin/Themes/ folder, and each theme would be an individual XAP file too. The application would qalso need to load all XAP files in /ClinetBin/Themes/. • Grub install fails while installing Ubuntu on RAID

  I'm trying to install Ubuntu 9.10 using the alternate install CD, but I keep getting stuck. I get through the first few steps of the install process easily enough (telling it what partition to install to, what user ID and password to create, time zone, etc.), but then it suddenly pops up a menu asking me what the next step in the install process is. It has "Install the GRUB boot loader on a hard disk" selected by default. When I select it, it goes to another screen with a progress bar and a label "Installing the 'grub2' package." The progress bar gets to 16%, and then I get returned to the same menu. No matter how many times I try to install grub, the exact same thing happens. I'm trying to install Ubuntu on a two disk RAID-1 array. This is the RAID card I'm using: http://www.siig.com/ViewProduct.aspx?pn=SC-SAER12-S2. Any ideas what may be causing this to happen and how I can fix it? Thanks!

  The graphical Interface in my system is garbled with some text. At the beginning I thought it was due to java and tomcat that I installed. But after removing java and tomcat, it is still the same. • Wrong perspective is showing in Eclipse plugin project [closed]

  I am working in Eclipse Modeling Framework (Eclipse plugin development) in my project the tool(project i am working) provides three perspectives. 1.Accelerator Analyst perspective 2.Contract Validation and 3.Underwriter rules Editor... By default it starts with Contract validation perspective (As we define it within the plugin_customization.ini). However after switching to other perspective does not change the perspective shown... As all perspective (Class, Id and Name) is define only inside Plugin.XML as it is the task of org.eclipse.ui.perspective that that perspective name should be come forefront. • How do I set a postgresql password in pgpass.conf for the Administrator account on Windows Server 2008?

  I have a pgpass.conf file that works well for my default user. It is in C:/Users/myuser/AppData/Roaming/postgresql/pgpass.conf. It reads like so; localhost:5432:*:postgres:password1 I have a process that runs under the Administrator account. When I run whoami under this process I get nt authority/system. I want to be able to access the database from this process but it gets stuck because it needs a password. I have tried putting the above pgpass.conf into C:/Users/Administrator/AppData/postgresql/pgpass.conf and C:/Users/Administrator/AppData/Roaming/postgresql/pgpass.conf but it does not work. Is this the correct place for this file? Am I even able to do this as the Administrator. Unfortunately I cannot change the user that this process runs under.

  I can't get my server to obey the settings from php.ini (I'm trying to change memory_limit and upload_max_filesize). As far as I can tell, I'm editing the correct file. phpinfo() gives: Loaded Configuration File /etc/php.ini The file permission is 644. There are also some extra .ini files on /etc/php.d, but none include any of the keys I'm trying to change. No matter what I do, phpinfo reports the default values on both "Local" and "Master" columns. I also scanned my Apache config files, but found nothing related to PHP (besides loading the PHP module). The only way I was able to change those settings was by adding some php_value lines to my .htaccess. Is there something obvious I'm missing? This is a virtual server, and I can perform root commands with sudo. I'm running Apache 2.1.3 and PHP 5.3.3. I would assume all the team members would be a group like "developers" so they could all work on files in the web root as needed. With this in mind, would umask 007 be a much better setting than the default of 022? After all, there shouldn't be any "other/world" users since this machines primary purpose is to serve web pages. All the developers have access and there aren't any "guests" logging in...

• Undeploying Apps Running JDev 11g WLS

  Guest post from Jeanne Waldman:I was running my application in JDeveloper when I noticed log messages in the console for a different application, let's call it OldApp. I stopped and started the my application server, the WLS server, re-ran my application, and still I'd see messages for OldApp. I shut down JDeveloper, restarted, and still when I ran my application, I'd see the OldApp's messages   Well, it turns out that at some point in time the OldApp was not properly undeployed. To really stop OldApp, I had to:   Go to http://127.0.0.1:7101/console.   This deployed the console app where you configure WLS. By default the login credentials are:   username: weblogic password: weblogic1 I clicked on Deployments and I saw that OldApp was still running. I selected the checkbox next to OldApp and clicked on the Stop -> Force Stop Now.  Now when I run my application, I do not see the OldApp log messages.

• Why does integrity check fail for the 12.04.1 Alternate ISO?

  I have followed various recommendations from the Ubuntu Documentation to create a bootable Ubuntu USB flash drive using the 12.04.1 Alternate install ISO-file for 64-bit PC. But the integrity test of the USB stick has failed and I do not see why. These are the steps I have made: Download of the 12.04.1 Alternate install ISO-file for 64-bit PC (ubuntu-12.04.1-alternate-amd64.iso) from http://releases.ubuntu.com/12.04.1/, as well as the MD5, SHA-1 and SHA-256 hash files and related PGP signatures Verification of the data integrity of the ISO-file using the MD5, SHA-1 and SHA-256 hash files, after having verified the hash files using the related PGP signature files (see e.g. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToSHA256SUM and https://help.ubuntu.com/community/VerifyIsoHowto) Creation of a bootable USB stick using Ubuntu's Startup Disk Creator program (see http://www.ubuntu.com/download/help/create-a-usb-stick-on-ubuntu) Boot of my computer using the newly made 12.04.1 Alternate install on USB stick Selection of the option "Check disc for defects" (see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/CDIntegrityCheck) Steps 1, 2, 3 and 4 went without any problem or error messages. However, step 5 ended with an error message entitled "Integrity test failed" and with the following content: The ./install/netboot/ubuntu-installer/amd64/pxelinux.cfg/default file failed the MD5 checksum verification. Your CD-ROM or this file may have been corrupted. I have experienced the same (might only be similar since I have no exact notes) error message in previous attempts using the 12.04 (i.e. not the maintenance release) Alternate install ISO-file. I have in these cases tried to install anyway and have so far not experienced any problems to my knowledge. Is failed integrity check described above a serious error? What is the solution? Or can it be ignored without further problems?

• Problems accessing shared folder in Windows Server 2008

  In Windows Server 2008, I have a shared folder. For my username: NTFS permission (read/modify) Share Permissions (read/modify) Result when trying to access the share: I can traverse directory and read files, but I cannot write files. When I try to examine my effective permissions, it says "Windows can't calculate the effective permissions for [My Username]". The folder is owned by the Administrators group (the default), and NTFS read/write permissions are granted to my username, which is a member of the Administrators group. I notice that to make any changes to the folder locally require me to acknowledge a UAC prompt. Why does that prompt appear? I also tried creating a new group, giving it full NTFS permissions, and full control in the shared permissions, and added my username to the group. The result is even worse... I cannot even traverse the shared folder directories or read anything at all.

  Oracle Utilities Application Framework V4.1 Group Fix 4 is available from My Oracle Support as Patch 13523301. This Group Fix contains a number of enhancements and keeps fixes up to date to the latest patch level. The enhancements included in this Group Fix include: UI Hints - In previous group fixes of the Oracle Utilities Application Framework the infrastructure to support UI Hints was introduced. This group fix completes the release of this functionality. Prior to this enhancement, products and implementers typically would build at least one UI Map per Business Object to display and/or maintain the object. Whilst, this can be generated using the UI Map maintenance function and stored, this enhancement allows additional tags and elements to be added to the Business Object directly to allow dynamic generation of the UI Map for maintenance and viewing the object. This reduces the need to generate and build a UI Map at all for that object. This will reduce maintenance effort of maintaining the product and implementation by eliminating the need to maintain the HTML for the UI Map. This also allows lower skilled personnel to maintain the system. Help and working examples are available from the View schema attributes and node names option from the Schema Tips dashboard zone. For example: Note: For examples of the hints, refer to an of the following Business Objects F1_OutcomeStyleLookup, F1-TodoSumEmailType, F1-BOStatusReason or F1-BIGeneralMasterConfig. Setting batch log file names -  By default the batch infrastructure supplied with the Oracle Utilities Application Framework sets the name and location of the log files to set values. • If some standards apply when "it depends" then should I stick with custom approaches?

  If I have an unconventional approach which works better than the industry standard, should I just stick with it even though in principal it violates those standards? What I am talking about is referential integrity for relational database management systems. The standard for enforcing referential integrity is to CASCADE delete. In practice, this is just not going to work all the time. In my current case, it does not. The alternative suggested is to either change the reference to NULL, DEFAULT, or just to take NO ACTION - usually in the form of a "soft delete". I am all about enforcing referential integrity. Love it. However, sometimes it just does not fully apply to use all the standards in practice. My approach has been to slightly abandon a small part of one of those practices which is the part about leaving "hanging references" around. Oops. The trade off is plentiful in this situation I believe. Instead of having deprecated data in the production database, a splattering of "soft delete" logic all across my controllers (and views sometimes depending on how far down the chain the soft delete occurred), and the prospect of queries taking longer and longer - instead of all that - I now have a recycle bin and centralized logic. The only tradeoff is that I must explicitly manage the possibility of "hanging references" which can be done through generics with one class. Any thoughts?

• Sql Server 2005 Service Pack 3 does not install

  I'm trying to install SP3 on an install of Sql Server 2005 running on Server 2003 32 bit. When I run the installer it doesn't seem to recognize that I have SQL Server 2005 installed. The dialog box that asks what features should be updated doesn't show any by default. More troubling, it doesn't allow me to check any of those boxes to update features like Database Services or Reporting Services. When I select one of these services, the "Status" box says "Not Valid". • .htaccess to deny access to most xml files

  I recently had a Joomla site hacked, so I'm trying to harden the site a bit. There's a section in the recommended .htaccess that restricts outside access to the xml files that come with extensions. However, it also keeps my sitemap.xml file from being accessed. How do I allow a certain file whiles keeping the rest? here's the default code: <Files ~ "\.xml$"> Order allow,deny Deny from all Satisfy all </Files> and my modification that caused a 500 error: <Files ~ "(?!sitemap)\.xml$"> Order allow,deny Deny from all Satisfy all </Files>
