  Das zweite Release von Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control 12c ist jetzt verfügbar und zwar für alle Plattformen, auf denen auch das Vorgängerrelease genutzt werden konnte. Das gab es bei Enterprise Manager noch nie: Alle Plattformen haben die gleiche Priorität! In dem neuen Release wurde die Stabilität nochmals verbessert und einige Wünsche unserer Kunden verwirklicht. Auch einige neue Funktionalitäten, wie zum Beispiel "Java as a Service" stehen nun zur Verfügung. Neben dem Cloud Control Framework wurden auch einige Plug-Ins erneuert. Cloud Control 12.1.0.2 ist ein komplettes Release und der Download enthält alles für die Installation des OMS und Agenten. Damit kann mit der Software eine komplette Neuinstallation oder ein Upgrade von EM 10.2.0.5, 11.1 oder 12.1.0.1 (auch ohne Bundle Patch 1) vorgenommen werden. • Security Alert for CVE-2012-4681 Released

  Hi, this is Eric Maurice again! Oracle has just released Security Alert CVE-2012-4681 to address 3 distinct but related vulnerabilities and one security-in-depth issue affecting Java running in desktop browsers.  These vulnerabilities are: CVE-2012-4681, CVE-2012-1682, CVE-2012-3136, and CVE-2012-0547.  These vulnerabilities are not applicable to standalone Java desktop applications or Java running on servers, i.e. these vulnerabilities do not affect any Oracle server based software. Vulnerabilities CVE-2012-4681, CVE-2012-1682, and CVE-2012-3136 have each received a CVSS Base Score of 10.0.  This score assumes that the affected users have administrative privileges, as is typical in Windows XP.  Vulnerability CVE-20120-0547 has received a CVSS Base Score of 0.0 because this vulnerability is not directly exploitable in typical user deployments, but Oracle has issued a security-in-depth fix for this issue as it can be used in conjunction with other vulnerabilities to significantly increase the overall impact of a successful exploit. If successfully exploited, these vulnerabilities can provide a malicious attacker the ability to plant discretionary binaries onto the compromised system, e.g. the vulnerabilities can be exploited to install malware, including Trojans, onto the targeted system.  Note that this malware may in some instances be detected by current antivirus signatures upon its installation.  Due to the high severity of these vulnerabilities, Oracle recommends that customers apply this Security Alert as soon as possible.  Furthermore, note that the technical details of these vulnerabilities are widely available on the Internet and Oracle has received external reports that these vulnerabilities are being actively exploited in the wild.    Developers should download the latest release at http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html   Java users should download the latest release of JRE at http://java.com, and of course   Windows users can take advantage of the Java Automatic Update to get the latest release. • Java @Contented annotation to help reduce false sharing

  See this posting by Aleksey Shipilev for details -- @Contended is something we've wanted for a long time. The JVM provides automatic layout and placement of fields. Usually it'll (a) sort fields by descending size to improve footprint, and (b) pack reference fields so the garbage collector can process a contiguous run of reference fields when tracing. @Contended gives the program a way to provide more explicit guidance with respect to concurrency and false sharing. Using this facility we can sequester hot frequently written shared fields away from other mostly read-only or cold fields. The simple rule is that read-sharing is cheap, and write-sharing is very expensive. We can also pack fields together that tend to be written together by the same thread at about the same time. More generally, we're trying to influence relative field placement to minimize coherency misses. Fields that are accessed closely together in time should be placed proximally in space to promote cache locality. That is, temporal locality should condition spatial locality. Fields accessed together in time should be nearby in space. That having been said, we have to be careful to avoid false sharing and excessive invalidation from coherence traffic. As such, we try to cluster or otherwise sequester fields that tend to written at approximately the same time by the same thread onto the same cache line. Note that there's a tension at play: if we try too hard to minimize single-threaded capacity misses then we can end up with excessive coherency misses running in a parallel environment. Theres no single optimal layout for both single-thread and multithreaded environments. And the ideal layout problem itself is NP-hard. Ideally, a JVM would employ hardware monitoring facilities to detect sharing behavior and change the layout on the fly. That's a bit difficult as we don't yet have the right plumbing to provide efficient and expedient information to the JVM. Hint: we need to disintermediate the OS and hypervisor. Another challenge is that raw field offsets are used in the unsafe facility, so we'd need to address that issue, possibly with an extra level of indirection. Finally, I'd like to be able to pack final fields together as well, as those are known to be read-only.

• ADO and Two Way Storage Tiering

  Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 We get asked the following question about Automatic Data Optimization (ADO) storage tiering quite a bit. Can you tier back to the original location if the data gets hot again? The answer is yes but not with standard Automatic Data Optimization policies, at least not reliably. That's not how ADO is meant to operate. ADO is meant to mirror a traditional view of Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) where data will be very volatile when first created, will become less active or cool, and then will eventually cease to be accessed at all (i.e. cold). I think the reason this question gets asked is because customers realize that many of their business processes are cyclical and the thinking goes that those segments that only get used during month end or year-end cycles could sit on lower cost storage when not being used. Unfortunately this doesn't fit very well with the ADO storage tiering model. ADO storage tiering is based on the amount of free and used space in the source tablespace. There are two parameters that control this behavior, TBS_PERCENT_USED and TBS_PERCENT_FREE. When the space in the tablespace exceeds the TBS_PERCENT_USED value then segments specified in storage tiering clause(s) can be moved until the percent of free space reaches the TBS_PERCENT_FREE value. It is worth mentioning that no checks are made for available space in the target tablespace. Now, it is certainly possible to create custom functions to control storage tiering, but this can get complicated. The biggest problem is insuring that there is enough space to move the segment back to tier 1 storage, assuming that that's the goal. This isn't as much of a problem when moving from tier 1 to tier 2 storage because there is typically more tier 2 storage available. At least that's the premise since it is supposed to be less costly, lower performing and higher capacity storage. In either case though, if there isn't enough space then the operation fails. In the case of a customized function, the question becomes do you attempt to free the space so the move can be made or do you just stop and return false so that the move cannot take place? This is really the crux of the issue. Once you cross into this territory you're really going to have to implement two-way hierarchical storage and the whole point of ADO was to provide automatic storage tiering. • Quantifying the Value Derived from Your PeopleSoft Implementation

  As product strategists, we often receive the question, "What's the value of implementing your PeopleSoft software?" Prospective customers and existing customers alike are compelled to justify the cost of new tools, business process changes, and the business impact associated with adopting the new tools. In response to this question, we have been working with many of our customers and implementation partners during the past year to obtain metrics that demonstrate the value obtained from an investment in PeopleSoft applications. The great news is that as a result of our quest to identify value achieved, many of our customers began to monitor their businesses differently and more aggressively than in the past, and a number of them informed us that they have some great achievements to share. For this month, I'll start by pointing out that we have collaborated with one of our implementation partners, Huron Consulting Group, Inc., to articulate the levers for extracting value from implementing the PeopleSoft Grants solution. Typically, education and research institutions, healthcare organizations, and non-profit organizations are the types of enterprises that seek to facilitate and automate research administration business processes with the PeopleSoft Grants solution.   If you get "Receive Anonymous Level Security token" message in IE8 when trying to access Shared Services or Workspace URL.Workaround:a. Go to Start > Run and enter dcomcnfgb. Expand Component Services, Expand Computers and right click on My Computer and select Propertiesc. Click on the Default Properties tab.  Change the Default Authentication Level to Connect.  Click apply and then OK.d. Launch the IE browser again and you will be able to access the URL.

• JEP 124: Enhance the Certificate Revocation-Checking API

  Revocation checking is the mechanism to determine the revocation status of a certificate. If it is revoked, it is considered invalid and should not be used. Currently as of JDK 7, the PKIX implementation of java.security.cert.CertPathValidator  includes a revocation checking implementation that supports both OCSP and CRLs, the two main methods of checking revocation. However, there are very few options that allow you to configure the behavior. You can always implement your own revocation checker, but that's a lot of work. JEP 124 (Enhance the Certificate Revocation-Checking API) is one of the 11 new security features in JDK 8. This feature enhances the java.security.cert API to support various revocation settings such as best-effort checking, end-entity certificate checking, and mechanism-specific options and parameters. Let's describe each of these in more detail and show some examples. The features are provided through a new class named PKIXRevocationChecker. A PKIXRevocationChecker instance is returned by a PKIX CertPathValidator as follows: CertPathValidator cpv = CertPathValidator.getInstance("PKIX"); PKIXRevocationChecker prc = (PKIXRevocationChecker)cpv.getRevocationChecker(); You can now set various revocation options by calling different methods of the returned PKIXRevocationChecker object. For example, the best-effort option (called soft-fail) allows the revocation check to succeed if the status cannot be obtained due to a network connection failure or an overloaded server. It is enabled as follows: prc.setOptions(Enum.setOf(Option.SOFT_FAIL)); When the SOFT_FAIL option is specified, you can still obtain any exceptions that may have been thrown due to network issues. This can be useful if you want to log this information or treat it as a warning. You can obtain these exceptions by calling the getSoftFailExceptions method: List<CertPathValidatorException> exceptions = prc.getSoftFailExceptions(); Another new option called ONLY_END_ENTITY allows you to only check the revocation status of the end-entity certificate. This can improve performance, but you should be careful using this option, as the revocation status of CA certificates will not be checked. To set more than one option, simply specify them together, for example: prc.setOptions(Enum.setOf(Option.SOFT_FAIL, Option.ONLY_END_ENTITY)); By default, PKIXRevocationChecker will try to check the revocation status of a certificate using OCSP first, and then CRLs as a fallback. However, you can switch the order using the PREFER_CRLS option, or disable the fallback altogether using the NO_FALLBACK option. For example, here is how you would only use CRLs to check the revocation status: prc.setOptions(Enum.setOf(Option.PREFER_CRLS, Option.NO_FALLBACK)); There are also a number of other useful methods which allow you to specify various options such as the OCSP responder URI, the trusted OCSP responder certificate, and OCSP request extensions. However, one of the most useful features is the ability to specify a cached OCSP response with the setOCSPResponse method. This can be quite useful if the OCSPResponse has already been obtained, for example in a protocol that uses OCSP stapling. After you have set all of your preferred options, you must add the PKIXRevocationChecker to your PKIXParameters object as one of your custom CertPathCheckers before you validate the certificate chain, as follows: PKIXParameters params = new PKIXParameters(keystore); params.addCertPathChecker(prc); CertPathValidatorResult result = cpv.validate(path, params); Early access binaries of JDK 8 can be downloaded from http://jdk8.java.net/download.html

  I have resigned from Oracle and thus will soon leave the GlassFish group. I feel very proud looking back at what we've achieved as a team with GlassFish in the past few years, including those past two years at Oracle. If you know anything about the history of application servers at Sun, you'll recognize that building such a community around GlassFish and its amazing number of downloads is nothing short of a small miracle. The Java EE platform has also seen a strong resurgence, bringing it back to the forefront of effective enterprise Java development in many ways. Having been hired by Sun some 13 years ago to sell NetDynamics I certainly feel that I leave the company's application server in *much* better shape. Oracle has ambitious plans for GlassFish and has been in my opinion a good steward for this community. I see no reason for this to change and I do expect the community to keep on pushing Oracle to get even better with time. This ride has been intense and the people I've met and worked with, both inside and outside Sun/Oracle, have made the experience the best one of my career.   Fault Handling It is one thing to architect, design, and code the “happy flow” of your automated business processes and services. It is another thing to deal with situations you do not want or expect to occur in your processes and services. This session dives into fault handling in Oracle Service Bus 11g and Oracle SOA Suite 11g, based on an order-to-cash business process. Faults can be divided into business faults, technical faults, programming errors, and faulty user input. Each type of fault needs a different approach to prevent them from occurring or to deal with them. For example, apply User Experience (UX) techniques to improve the quality of your application so that faulty user input can be prevented as much as possible. This session shows and demos what patterns and techniques can be used in Oracle Service Bus and Oracle SOA Suite to prevent and handle technical faults as well as business faults. Q&A This section lists answers to the questions that were raised during the preview event. Q: Where can retries be configured in Oracle Service Bus? The retry mechanism is used to prevent faults caused by temporary glitches such as short network interruptions. A faulted message is resend (retried) and might succeed this time since the glitch has passed. Retries are an out-of-the-box feature that can be used in Oracle Service Bus and Oracle SOA Suite using the Fault Policy framework. By default, retries are disabled in Oracle Service Bus.   Oracle enterprise project portfolio management with Primavera is much more than optimizing project performance and eliminating project failure on new projects, capital programs, etc. A very common use case that we see is small-scale frequent and recurring projects based on on-going operations and maintenance. As opposed to assigning resources to various activities when you are building a new network infrastructure, for example, Oracle has teamed-up the Primavera and eBusiness Suite teams to provide direct integration for work orders from Oracle's Enterprise Asset Management (eAM) system to populate into Primavera P6 project schedules. • JDeveloper does not recognize existing subversion working directory

  Just a quick note about an issue where JDeveloper no longer recognized an existing subversion working directory. Symptom:  JDeveloper Versioning menu offers to Version an Application that is already versioned in svn. Cause: The repository url contained in the hidden .svn folders of the working directory is no longer valid. Solution: Determine the correct url for the Subversion repository and update the .svn working directory.Fix the url contained in the svn folders of the working directory using the svn switch command. Example:           In a shell change directory to the Application folder.           Run the svn info command to confirm the current settings.                $ svn info                   Path: .                   URL: http://192.168.1.128/repos/jdeveloperrepo/AsyncExamples/BPELCallAsync/trunk                   Repository Root: http://192.168.1.128/repos/jdeveloperrepo                   Repository UUID: 3dc5eb88-3001-0010-8d6e-fd6f73825647                   Revision: 145                   Node Kind: directory                   Schedule: normal                   Last Changed Rev: 145                   Last Changed Date: 2012-06-07 07:15:56 -0700 (Thu, 07 Jun 2012)            In this case, the IP address in the repository URL is incorrect,           the svn server is located at 192.168.56.1           Note: The IP Address currently set is displayed after the Project Name in the            Application Navigator.  See the screen snapshot above.            Run the svn switch command with the --relocate option            Provide as much of the urls as necessary to correctly rewrite the url from current to new.            For example,            to change the repository server address from 192.168.1.128   to   192.168.56.1                     $  svn switch --relocate  http://192.168.1.128   http://192.168.56.1  .                               (Note the trailing period in the above command)           When the url is correct, JDeveloper should recognize the Subversion Working Directory.
