• XAMPP Closes the Connection and won't let me download anything

  I want my XAMPP Apache server to host a zip file (The file is around 250mb) but the server closes the connection and won't let me download the file! However webistes are loading correctly and It seems that the problem is with the extension Does xampp/apache have any file extension limit that they won't let me download .zip and .exe files? Also tested with a smaller .exe file , the problem is still present. It just doesn't let me download any file from the server.!!! • Should I limit end-user gigabit ports to avoid saturating uplink/trunk connections?

  We have a campus with 16 buildings and older 850nm 1Gbps fiber links between the buildings, that all come to a core switch for our servers that also uses 1Gbps ports. We're finally starting to replace our aging 10/100 end-user switches, and much of what we're looking at are 1 Gbps units. My question is, since the trunk/uplink lines are still 1Gbps, if I were to install 1 Gbps switches for end users, should I limit the ports to 100Mbps until I can also upgrade the trunks to avoid allowing a bad-behaving host to saturate a trunk line (since we're a college, we have plenty of mis-behaving hosts) and thereby create a DoS situation for a building, or will TCP congestion control typically take care of that for me? What if we have a lot of UDP traffic (games, video chats, even a small amount of bittorrent)?

  I use postfix to send direct email. But, I use a relay to send email for specific senders. So I use "sender_dependent_relayhost_maps" : /etc/postfix/main.cf : relayhost = transport_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/transport smtp_sender_dependent_authentication = yes sender_dependent_relayhost_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/sender_relay /etc/postfix/sender_relay : [email protected] smtp.relay.com So when I send an email with sender email "[email protected]", postfix will use the relay. But... I don't want to use the relay host for some recipient. ;) I think I must use "transport_map" to catch the email before it pass through "sender_dependent_relayhost_maps" but I don't know how to do it... • Virtual PC 2007 Full Screen Resolution

  I have a laptop (1440 x 900) and an external monitor (1920 x 1200), and I'm running Virtual PC 2007. Initially, my VPC could not switch to fullscreen mode on my external monitor because the max resolution for VPC was only 1600 x 1200. I installed a hotfix (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/958162) and after the hotfix, I was able to view VPC in fullscreen mode on my external monitor, but now I'm unable to view fullscreen on my laptop. It says "please check that the resolution of the guest is not higher than that of the host". I even tried to decrease the resolution of my Virtual PC to less than than of my laptop, but it always resets it back up. So now after the hotfix, I can view fullscreen mode only when my external monitor is plugged in. Any way I can resolve this?

• Is there any danger in disabling windows firewall on a azure worker role?

  I'm trying to troubleshoot a bug on our Azure worker role where we occasionally get the error "Unable to read data from the transport connection: An established connection was aborted by the software in your host machine". This error occurs when we are connecting to outside resources like google auth servers. A few people have recommended disabling the firewall\antivirus on the server. I'm just wondering what kind of security risk we would take by doing this. The server doesn't have iis installed but would it be vulnerable to hacking without the firewall? Thanks

• Virtualbox fullscreen mode problem

  hi all I have a slightly weird issue with virtualbox. My host OS is Win7 (64-bit) and guest OS is Ubuntu 10.10(64-bit). When I switch to fullscreen mode in virtualbox, ubuntu display resizes to fit my screen size. however, after that the display is not updated. So if i click a menu or something I don't see it appear. but it seems to work in the background. if i click a menu in fullscreen mode, i don't see anything happen, but if then switch to windowed mode I see the menu already open. I have installed virtuabox guest additions. if any has a similar issue or has found a solution please let me know thanks.

• HAPROXY per domain redirection

  I'm trying to redirect requests to my load balancer by domain name with acl and hdr_dom, to a separate backend. The redirection works ok with the first request - 'GET /' (the destination server is a WordPress site) but when the client asks for the assets ('GET /blablabla/style.css' for example) the haproxy doesn't redirect it to the right backend anymore, but to the default one, with . In the haproxy log I can see the correct host that the request is for (the one that I defined in hdr_dom) but it's like that since the GET request itself is relative (I mean not containing the domain but only from the /blablabla and forth), haproxy doesn't recognize it with the hdr_dom. I'm just guessing here.. Please help...

• Software that will burn DVDs with a SFV or Pararchive file for each disc?

  I'd like to burn several thousand RAW files (.DNG) of around 10-30 MB each to DVD to backup my photo archive. I'm looking for software that can do this and include an SFV-type file on each disc burnt. These are my requirements: compression is optional, and probably not desirable due to the extra time involved files should be spread amongst the discs as self-contained units, i.e. I don't want to have to load files from more than one disc to be able to read the files on that disc, so that excludes WinRAR's spanning options I don't want to spend time writing ISO images first as this will be a task I'll need to repeat often as I add new images to my archive - the software should write to the DVDs for me as simply as possible I'd like the SFV/Pararchive/recovery record to be stored with the files on each disc, so it only references the files on that particular disk Thanks in advance!

• How to put 1000 lightweight server applications in the cloud

  The company I work for sells a commercial desktop/server app that runs on any non dedicated Windows PC or server and uses Tomcat for all interactions with the application. Customers are asking that we host their instance of the application so they don't have to run it locally on their own servers. The app is lightweight and an average server, in theory, could handle 25-50 instances before users would notice a slowdown. However only 1 instance can run per Windows instance (because the application writes to a common registry branch) so we'd need something like VMWare to create 25-50 Windows instances. We know we eventually need to reprogram to make it truly cloud-worthy but what would you recommend for a server farm or whatever for this? We don't have the setup to purchase our own servers so we must use a 3rd party. We have budgeted $500 - $1000 per year per customer for this service. Thanks in advance for your suggestions, experiences and guidance.

• Can't access LAN computers with SSH

  I got a new Windows 7 machine, and was using VNC,SSH etc to connect to my Ubuntu machine, and it worked fine previously. Now it doesn't work if I use the machine's hostname or local IP, but if I use the DynDNS name, it works. I can also access it from my Android phone using the local hostname over SSH. If I try to connect with SSH to the hostname, it says "Host does not exist". VNC says "Failed to get server address". NX says "no address associated with name", and I don't see it in Windows' "Network" folder. I've rebooted everything. I've turned off Windows firewall. It was working fine a few days ago, but now it's not. How do I figure out what's blocking it?

  Does Virtual Server 2005 R2 have a command line interface, that's versatile enough? Here is a situation. I run a Win2k VM on an old memory constrained machine. I allocate it 378MB of RAM and the VM runs just fine. Once a month, inside the VM, I backup the (a very large) database, compress it using 7Zip and ftp it to the backup site (all in a script). Unfortunately the compression part takes a massive amount of RAM (far exceeding the 378MB), it goes for the paging file and brings absolutely everything to a crawl and literally takes 2-3 days, if left unattended. So to fix this, I have to shutdown the VM, give it temporarily 768MB of RAM and then the whole thing finishes in 20 minutes. So, is there a way do the following automatically from the host machine in a script? Shutdown the guest OS (I think, I got this part) Change the RAM allocation from 378 to 768 Start the guest OS again then, 1 hour later, do everything in reverse.

• Streamline Active Directory account creation via automated web site

  In my company we have high employee turnover, and hence our helpdesk receives about a dozen requests per week for new Active Directory accounts. Currently, we receive these requests simply via e-mail or voice-mail, and rarely do we have all of the information necessary to create the account. I would like to find a web application that can be used by a manager or supervisor to formalize the requests they make for AD accounts for new employees under their command. Ideally, the application would prompt for all of necessary information, and allow the helpdesk to review the requests and approve or deny each one. If approved, the application would take care of creating the account and send an e-mail to the manager. I have found several application on the Internet that handle self-service account management (i.e., password resets or update contact info), which is also nice to have, but nothing that streamlines the new account request and creation part. Can anyone make suggestions on such an application? Thanks.

  I have a W2008 R2 installed on a different network (I am on 192.168.0.x - new server on 192.168.3.x) I had trouble ping and RDP to it. I disabled the firewall to test the connection: and that opened the ping feature but I still can not RDP to that machine. the allow remote access is enabled As per sinni80 idea - Here is the error message The networks are divided by a Fortigate 60-B router - 2ndy interface for the gateway is 192.168.3.254 (and pingable from all) any to any rule on both networks is in place. As per Joe Schmoe idea - I am able to RDP to 192.168.3.1 from 192.168.3.3 (which is on the same network) Data to add: - The servers are on a VM host, each of the servers has 2 nics one is DHCP enabled into the 192.168.0.x network 2nd is static IP in the 192.168.3.x -- Further information: The network 192.168.0.x - are on a domain network (active Directory) The network 192.168.3.x - are grouped in a workgroup What should I check more please?

  I run a large mailing list (30,000 users). Every month I get a whole slew of bounces in my mailbox from the "mailing list memberships reminder" that get sent out. I thought that these were supposed to go to the program and automatically unsubscribe people, not go to me. We are running a standard unmodified MacOS Server installation. Here is a typical bounce: From: Mail Delivery System Subject: Undelivered Mail Returned to Sender To: [email protected] This is the mail system at host mail.COMPANY.COM.   Hi all, We are quite stuck with which solution to choose for this backup issue: What should happen: First, there should be an interface were to choose several sql databases (sort of checkboxes or whatsoever), also a few folders should be backed up - this could be part of the program or could be seperate, I think about an interface were to select folders, but a txt file (or xml) with paths-to-folders is as good. Next, everything should be 7Zipped, SQL-DB and files seperate. Eventually everything should be copied to a local network drive after which copied via FTP. Also important; it could be programmed or (partly) bought but I can't be one of those expensive backup tools $1000+ etc. I already found this fairly priced tool that does already most of the tasks 7ZIP and copy to ftp sqlbackupandftp.com For your information: we had a kind of self-made tool created by a collegue (some time ago) but it became very untrustworthy and as the databases grew it couldn't handle it anymore... moving on Please come up with suggestions.   I have a simple nginx reverse proxy: server { server_name external.domain.com; location / { proxy_pass http://backend.int/; } } The problem is that Set-Cookie response headers contain ;Domain=backend.int, because the backend does not know it is being reverse proxied. How can I make nginx rewrite the content of the Set-Cookie response headers, replacing ;Domain=backend.int with ;Domain=external.domain.com? Passing the Host header unchanged is not an option in this case. Apache httpd has had this feature for a while, see ProxyPassReverseCookieDomain, but I cannot seem to find a way to do the same in nginx.

• Active Directory: trouble adding new DC

  I have a domain with 3 DCs. One is starting to fail so I brought up a new one. All are running Win 2003. Problem: there appear to be replication issues between the 4 machines but I can't figure out what's causing this. All are registered with the DNS as identically as I can make them. How do I know there is a problem? Nagios is telling me that the other 3 DCs are having KCCEvent errors and the new machine is reporting "failed connectivity" errors. Doing dcdiag on the new machine reports: the host could not be resolved to an IP address. This seems crazy as I log into it using the DNS name. I can ping it from the other three machines using this DNS name as well. repadmin /showreps from the new machine says its seeing the other 3 machines. Doing the same from one of the older machines doesn't show the new machine. I've tried netdiag /repair numerous times. No luck. There are no firewalls running on any of the machines. If I look at Domain info via MMC (on the new machine) it appears that all the information is current. Users, computers, DCs.. its all there. Im puzzled as to what step(s) I've missed in adding this new machine. Suggestions?   Hi, I have a web application written by asp.net (c#) sql server 2005. we host it on 2 dedicated server ( IIS and SQL server ) From some month ago , in some days of week we have many reports about speed issue. we have some other application on this server using same database. when we have speed problem all aplication on these server have this problem, but applications on other server in same data center work correctly. ram and cpu usage are ok. how can I check that the problem related to internet connection or my application design? which parameters must be checked. Some other information In applications users can upload several files to server , each file up to 3 MB. we use a sql web admin application, on same server that has same problem, this is a standard application which work perfectly on other servers.   So, I can't use telnet to connect to any server but it works fine from a different computer. It just says it can't connect. I tried the following things: Disable firewall and AV protection. (Basically, there was no security feature left online) Telnet is set to "Trusted" in my AV protection. (Kaspersky Internet Security 2011) Using Putty to telnet, but apparently Putty's connection is also inhibited. (Says it can't connect to host) Disabling the telnet client in Control Panel and then re-enabling it. (Windows 7 Ultimate) hosts file is clean. Checked for nasties using MBAM and KIS 2011 as well as going though my HijackThis logs, nothing found. I can connect to the same machines/servers through the web browser, ping, tracert, etc. Only telnet seems to be blocked. Any other thoughts?

  I have an application deployed on WebLogic 10.3, which exhibits a strange behavior. I am running a constant (not too high) load on my application (20 concurrent users, running a light activity). The response time is reasonable (well below 100ms after the application stabilizes) Memory consumption seems fine (My application creates a lot of short-living objects, but they are garbaged collected so the overall memory consumption stays under 500 mb). Threads stats seem healthy as well: And yet, after I leave my test running for a while, more and more execute threads ("[ACTIVE] ExecuteThread: '3' for queue: 'weblogic.kernel.Default (self-tuning)'") are created, until eventually the application crashes: This test hasn't been running for a long time (All the new threads that you don't see in the first screenshot were created while I was writing this question), and I've seen much more threads being created. Any idea why these threads are being created?

I would like to know, how do I specify a network address for a dhcp client such that its generated ip address is within a specific subnet. For example: The DHCP server host = 172.1.1.1 So I want the client machine to have an IP Address in the range of 172.1.1.1 255.255.255.0. Please help me.

  I'm getting the ball rolling on puppet for my environment - and I'd like to have a conditional file resource based on whether or not the module itself contains a file based on a naming convention. So visually, assume a module named 'mysql' and it's layout: mysql/ /files /etc/ my.cnf my.hostname1.cnf my.hostname2.cnf /manifests init.pp ... So I'd like the block to verify if the resource for the module exists or not, and take action accordingly, in pseudo-terms: file { '/etc/my.cnf': if -f 'puppet:///mysql/etc/my.$hostname.cnf' { source => 'puppet:///mysql/etc/my.$hostname.cnf' } else { source => 'puppet:///mysql/etc/my.cnf' } } This way one wouldn't have to manage a csv file or the .pp file with a host specific case statement - is this possible?
