  Hi there another quick question. I would like to create a variable object so that depending on the value of something, it gets cast as needed. e.g. var rule; switch (seqRuleObj.RuleType) { case SeqRuleObj.type.Pre : rule = new preConditionRuleType(); rule = (preConditionRuleType)seqRuleObj.Rule; break; case SeqRuleObj.type.Post : rule = new postConditionRuleType(); rule = (postConditionRuleType)seqRuleObj.Rule; break; case SeqRuleObj.type.Exit : rule = new exitConditionRuleType(); rule = (exitConditionRuleType)seqRuleObj.Rule; break; default : break; } String result; foreach (sequencingRuleTypeRuleConditionsRuleCondition cond in rule.ruleConditions.ruleCondition) { ....../ blah } so basically this will not work. c# will not allow me to create an new object in every case as the name is aleady defined. i can just paste the foreach loop into each case but that to me is such a waste, as the objects are exactly the same in all but name.

• simpletest - Why does setReturnValue() seem to change behaviour depending whether test is run in iso

  I am using SimpleTest version 1.0.1 for a unit test. I create a new mock object within a test method and on it i do: $MockDbAdaptor->setReturnValue('query',1); Now, when i run this in a standalone unit test my tested object is happy to see 1 returned when query() is called on the mock db adaptor. However, when this exact same test is run as part of my 'all_tests' TestSuite, the test is failing. This happens because a call to the mock's query() method does not appear to return any value - thus causing my test subject to complain and trigger an unexpected exception that fails the test. So, the behaviour of setReturnValue() seems to change depending on whether the test is run in isolation or not. I can get it to work in both a standalone and TestSuite contexts by using this instead: $MockDbAdaptor->setReturnValueAt(0,'query',1); So my immediate problem can be fixed ...but it feels like a hack. I thought if i create a new mock within a test method then why is the setReturnValue() behaviour getting affected by the context in which the test class instance is run? It feel like a bug.

• PHPUnit - multiple stubs of same class

  I'm building unit tests for class Foo, and I'm fairly new to unit testing. A key component of my class is an instance of BarCollection which contains a number of Bar objects. One method in Foo iterates through the collection and calls a couple methods on each Bar object in the collection. I want to use stub objects to generate a series of responses for my test class. How do I make the Bar stub class return different values as I iterate? I'm trying to do something along these lines: $stubs = array(); foreach ($array as $value) { $barStub->expects($this->any()) ->method('GetValue')) ->will($this->returnValue($value)); $stubs[] = $barStub; } // populate stubs into `Foo` // assert results from `Foo->someMethod()` So Foo->someMethod() will produce data based on the results it receives from the Bar objects. But this gives me the following error whenever the array is longer than one: There was 1 failure: 1) testMyTest(FooTest) with data set #2 (array(0.5, 0.5)) Expectation failed for method name is equal to <string:GetValue> when invoked zero or more times. Mocked method does not exist. /usr/share/php/PHPUnit/Framework/MockObject/Mock.php(193) : eval()'d code:25 One thought I had was to use ->will($this->returnCallback()) to invoke a callback method, but I don't know how to indicate to the callback which Bar object is making the call (and consequently what response to give). Another idea is to use the onConsecutiveCalls() method, or something like it, to tell my stub to return 1 the first time, 2 the second time, etc, but I'm not sure exactly how to do this. I'm also concerned that if my class ever does anything other than ordered iteration on the collection, I won't have a way to test it.

• Represent multiple Null/Generic objects in an ActiveRecord association?

  I have a Casefile model that belongs_to a Doctor. In additional to all the "real" doctors, there are several generic Doctors: "self-treated", "not specified", and "removed" (it used to have a real doctor, but no longer does). I suspect there will be even more generic values in the future. I started with special "doctors" in the database, generated from seed. The generic Doctors only need to respond to the "name" and "real_doctor?" methods. This worked with one, was strained with two, and now feels completely broken. I want to change the behavior and can't figure out how to test it, a bad sign. Creating all the generic objects for testing is also trouble, including fake values to pass validation of the required Doctor attributes. The Null Object pattern works well for one generic object. The "name" method could check casefile.doctor.nil? and return "self-treated", as demonstrated by Craig Ambrose. What pattern should I use when there are multiple generic objects with very limited state?

  Hello, I'm trying to compile some fortran code and I'm running into some confusing linking errors. • vb.net, How can I limit a textchanged event for a textbox to keyboard input only?

  Hi everyone, Please allow me to explain what I have and what I am trying to achieve. I have a textbox (called txtb1) and a button under it (called btn_browse) on a winform in a vb.net project. When the user clicks the button a folder browser dialog appears. The user selects his desired folder and when he/she clicks 'ok' the dialog closes and the path of the folder selected appears in the textbox. I also want to store that value in a variable to be used somewhere else(the value will be copied to an xml file when the user clicks 'apply' on the form, but this has no effect nor is related to my problem). To achieve that I have the following code: Public myVar As String Private Sub btn_browse_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btn_browse.Click Dim f As New FolderBrowserDialog If f.ShowDialog() = DialogResult.OK Then txtb1.Text = f.SelectedPath End If myVar = txtb1.text f.Dispose() End Sub This part works with no problems. Now, what if the user either: 1- decides to enter the path manually rather than use the browse button. or, 2- after using the browse button and selecting the folder they decide to manually change the location In trying to solve this I added a textchanged event to the textbox as follows: Private Sub txtb1_TextChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles txtb1.TextChanged myVar = txtb1.Text End Sub However, this is not working. Apparently, and I don't know if this is relevant, when the user selects the desired folder using the browse button the textchanged event is also triggered. and when I click on the textbox (to give it focus) and press any keyboard key the application simply stops responding. So my questions are: am I going about this the right way? if my logic is flawed, could someone point me to how usually such a thing could be achieved? is it possible to limit the triggering events to only keyboard input as a way around this? I tried the keydown and keypress events but I am getting the freeze. I would be grateful for your help. Thanks

• Eclipse+PyDev+GAE memcache error

  I've started using Eclipe+PyDev as an environment for developing my first app for Google App Engine. Eclipse is configured according to this tutorial. Everything was working until I start to use memcache. PyDev reports the errors and I don't know how to fix it: Error: Undefined variable from import: get How to fix this? Sure, it is only PyDev checker problem. Code is correct and run on GAE. UPDATE: I'm using PyDev 1.5.0 but experienced the same with 1.4.8. My PYTHONPATH includes (set in Project Properties/PyDev - PYTHONPATH): C:\Program Files\Google\google_appengine C:\Program Files\Google\google_appengine\lib\django C:\Program Files\Google\google_appengine\lib\webob C:\Program Files\Google\google_appengine\lib\yaml\lib UPDATE 2: I took a look at C:\Program Files\Google\google_appengine\google\appengine\api\memcache\__init__.py and found get() is not declared as memcache module function. • Avoid the problem with BigDecimal when migrating to Java 1.4 to Java 1.5+

  Hello, I've recently migrated a Java 1.4 application to a Java 6 environment. Unfortunately, I encountered a problem with the BigDecimal storage in a Oracle database. To summarize, when I try to store a "7.65E+7" BigDecimal value (76,500,000.00) in the database, Oracle stores in reality the value of 7,650,000.00. This defect is due to the rewritting of the BigDecimal class in Java 1.5 (see here). In my code, the BigDecimal was created from a double using this kind of code: BigDecimal myBD = new BigDecimal("" + someDoubleValue); someObject.setAmount(myBD); // Now let Hibernate persists my object in DB... In more than 99% of the cases, everything works fine. Except that in really few case, the bug mentioned above occurs. And that's quite annoying. If I change the previous code to avoid the use of the String constructor of BigDecimal, then I do not encounter the bug in my uses cases: BigDecimal myBD = new BigDecimal(someDoubleValue); someObject.setAmount(myBD); // Now let Hibernate persists my object in DB... However, how can I be sure that this solution is the correct way to handle the use of BigDecimal? So my question is to know how I have to manage my BigDecimal values to avoid this issue: Do not use the new BigDecimal(String) constructor and use directly the new BigDecimal(double)? Force Oracle to use toPlainString() instead of toString() method when dealing with BigDecimal (and in this case how to do that)? Any other solution? • Ultrawingrid - how to display #1/1/1800# as blank ( as if null )

  Ultrawingrid 9.2 VS2008 .net 3.5 My wingrid uses a bindingsource. All datetimes which are null in SQL Server are delivered to the bindingsource as #1/1/1800# I would like Ultrawingrid to display this date as blank as it would a null from source. Also, if the date is null in the grid ( i.e. blanked out ) I would like to update the data source to the date #1/1/1800# ( the framework takes care of getting that date back into the backend as a null ) This seems like it should be a trivial matter but I can find no documentation on just where to intervene so the grid will see a particular date as a null and save a null as a particular date. • VB .Net - Reflection: Reflected Method from a loaded Assembly executes before calling method. Why?

  When I am loading an Assembly dynamically, then calling a method from it, I appear to be getting the method from Assembly executing before the code in the method that is calling it. It does not appear to be executing in a Serial manner as I would expect. Can anyone shine some light on why this might be happening. Below is some code to illustrate what I am seeing, the code from the some.dll assembly calls a method named PerformLookup. For testing I put a similar MessageBox type output with "PerformLookup Time: " as the text. • .NET - A way to add my own clipboard format to existing formats

  I have a Excel addin that displays some structures on the worksheet. Users can copy the structures and paste them in another worksheet or another application which is handled by the Clipboard formats. When a user copies the structure, I convert the structure into a specific format and put it on the clipboard using the DataObject::SetData(). Please note that when a copy is initiated in Excel, it puts a number of formats on the clipboard (see image). The problem is that there is a third party application that depends on the data on the clipboard(Copy from Excel and paste into this 3rd party app) but the funny thing is that I am not sure which format it depends on. I need to preserve the existing formats that Excel has put up there and also add my own format to it. Currently when I use the Clipboard class in .NET (taking the DataObject and calling SetData inside it), all the other formats are replaced by new ones. I then tried to create a new DataObject, copy the existing format data to this data object and then set this data object in the Clipboard.   Hi, in "A Programmers Guide to Java SCJP Certification" I found an example which I can't follow. This the given enum: enum Scale3 { GOOD(Grade.C), BETTER(Grade.B), BEST(Grade.A); enum Grade {A, B, C} private Grade grade; Scale3(Grade grade) { this.grade = grade; } public Grade getGrade() { return grade; } } This is the given expression: Scale3.GOOD.getGrade().compareTo(Scale3.Grade.A) > 0; I don't understand why this expression will be true? The return value will be 2. compareTo() will return a value 0 if the given object is "less" than the object. Scale3.Grade.A is the "biggest" element of Grades, its ordinal number is 0. Scale3.GOOD is the "biggest" element of Scale3, its ordinal number is also 0. The constructor of Scale3 is called with Scale3.Grade.C, which ordinal number is 2. So the given expression is equal to the following code: Scale3.Grade.C.compareTo(Scale3.Grade.A) > 0; A is "bigger" than C, so shouldn't be the result < 0?

• NHibernate: Mapping multiple classes from a single table row

  I couldn't find an answer to this specific question. I am trying to keep my domain model object-oriented and re-use objects where possible. I am having an issue determining how to provide a mapping to multiple classes from a single row. Let me explain with an example: I have a single table, call it Customer. A customer has several attributes; but, for brevity, assume it has Id, Name, Address, City, State, ZipCode. I would like to create a Customer and Address class that look like this: public class Customer { public virtual long Id {get;set;} public virtual string Name {get;set;} public virtual Address Address {get;set;} } public class Address { public virtual string Address {get;set;} public virtual string City {get;set;} public virtual string State {get;set;} public virtual string ZipCode {get;set;} } What I am having trouble with is determining what the mapping would be for the Address class within the Customer class. There is no Address table and there isn't a "set" of addresses associated with a Customer. I just want a more object-oriented view of the Customer table in code. There are several other tables that have address information in them and it would be nice to have a reusable Address class to deal with them. Addresses are not shared so breaking all addresses into a separate table with foreign keys seems to be overkill and, actually, more painful since I would need foreign keys to multiple tables. Can someone enlighten me on this type of mapping? Please provide an example if you can. Thanks for any insights! -Mike

• Looking for advice on importing large dataset in sqlite and Cocoa/Objective-C

  I have a fairly large hierarchical dataset I'm importing. The total size of the database after import is about 270MB in sqlite. My current method works, but I know I'm hogging memory as I do it. For instance, if I run with Zombies, my system freezes up (although it will execute just fine if I don't use that Instrument). I was hoping for some algorithm advice. I have three hierarchical tables comprising about 400,000 records. The highest level has about 30 records, the next has about 20,000, the last has the balance. Right now, I'm using nested for loops to import. I know I'm creating an unreasonably large object graph, but I'm also looking to serialize to JSON or XML because I want to break up the records into downloadable chunks for the end user to import a la carte. I have the code written to do the serialization, but I'm wondering if I can serialize the object graph if I only have pieces in memory. Here's pseudocode showing the basic process for sqlite import. I left out the unnecessary detail. • HTTPSConnection module missing in Python 2.6 on CentOS 5.2

  Hi guys, I'm playing around with a Python application on CentOS 5.2. It uses the Boto module to communicate with Amazon Web Services, which requires communication through a HTTPS connection. When I try running my application I get an error regarding HTTPSConnection being missing: "AttributeError: 'module' object has no attribute 'HTTPSConnection'" Google doesn't really return anything relevant, I've tried most of the solutions but none of them solve the problem. Has anyone come across anything like it? • How can I draw on JPanel using another quadrant for the coordinates?

  I would like to draw some shapes on a JPanel by overriding paintComponent. I would like to be able to pan and zoom. Panning and zooming is easy to do with AffineTransform and the setTransform method on the Graphics2D object. After doing that I can easyli draw the shapes with g2.draw(myShape) The shapes are defined with the "world coordinates" so it works fine when panning and I have to translate them to the canvas/JPanel coordinates before drawing. Now I would like to change the quadrant of the coordinates. From the 4th quadrant that JPanel and computer often uses to the 1st quadrant that the users are most familiar with. The X is the same but the Y-axe should increase upwards instead of downwards. It is easy to redefine origo by new Point(origo.x, -origo.y); But How can I draw the shapes in this quadrant? I would like to keep the coordinates of the shapes (defined in the world coordinates) rather than have them in the canvas coordinates. So I need to transform them in some way, or transform the Graphics2D object, and I would like to do it efficiently. Can I do this with AffineTransform too?

• Is NSPasteboard thread-safe?

  Is it safe to write data to an NSPasteboard object from a background thread? I can't seem to find a definitive answer anywhere. I think the assumption is that the data will be written to the pasteboard before the drag begins. Background: I have an application that is fetching data from Evernote. When the application first loads, it gets the meta data for each note, but not the note content. The note stubs are then listed in an outline view. When the user starts to drag a note, the notes are passed to the background thread that handles getting the note content from Evernote. Having the main thread block until the data is gotten results in a significant delay and a poor user experience, so I have the [outlineView:writeItems:toPasteboard:] function return YES while the background thread processes the data and invokes the main thread to write the data to the pasteboard object. If the note content gets transferred before the user drops the note somewhere, everything works perfectly. If the user drops the note somewhere before the data has been processed... well, everything blocks forever. Is it safe to just have the background thread write the data to the pasteboard?

• NTLM Authentication fails when behind Proxy server

  Hi All, I've seen a number of post about consuming Web Services from behind a proxy server, but none that seams to address this problem. I'm building a desktop application, using Java, JAX-WS in NetBeans. I have a working prototype, that can query the server for authentication mode, successfully authenticate and retrieve a list of web site. However, if I run the same app from a network that is behind a proxy server (the proxy does not require authentication), then I'm running into trouble. I know from the Java docs that On Microsoft Windows platforms, NTLM authentication attempts to acquire the user credentials from the system without prompting the user's authenticator object. If these credentials are not accepted by the server then the user's authenticator will be called. Given that my Authentication code is called only ones, and only as the 5th attempt, it appears as if the connection is dropped when behind the proxy server before my Authentication object is used. Is there any way I can control the behavior of Authentication module, to not have it use the system credentials? • Passing data to a non-static listBox, by calling function from another class

  I have a simple forms program that I have been fighting with for a while now. I simply want to be able to call a method from a different class file (when a certain step is triggered in the code in that class file) in order to insert a string in the listBox. Here is my main method, pretty standard: class Program { [STAThread] static void Main(string[] args) { Application.EnableVisualStyles(); Application.SetCompatibleTextRenderingDefault(false); Application.Run(new MainForm()); } } Here is the function which resides in my MainForm.cs file, which I can call just fine from that class file (via 'TextToBox(myString);'): public partial class MainForm : Form { ... // Function to output results to main Listbox window public void TextToBox(string aString) { // Place messages in Main Display list box window this.listBox1.Items.Insert(0, aString); } ... } But my problem is when I am in another class and I want to call 'TextToBox(myString);'. If I create another object reference of the MainForm, the code compiles fine but nothing will show up in the listBox. How do I do this? I cannot simply make TextToBox() static. I know I must create the object reference but I can't figure out how to reference the ORIGINAL MainForm, the one that was created in the Main method. Thanks in advance...

• .NET out of memory troubleshooting

  After reading a few enlightening articles about memory in the .NET technology, Out of Memory does not refer to physical memory, 597499. I thought I understood why a C# app would throw an out of memory exception -- until I started experimenting with two servers-- both are having 2.5 gigs of ram, windows server 2003 and identical programs running. The only significant difference between the two being one has 7% hard drive storage left and the other more than 50%. The server with 7% storage space left is consistently throwing an out of memory while the other is performing consistently well. My app is a C# web application that process' hundreds of MBs of String object. Why would this difference happen seeing that the most likely reason for the out of memory issue is out of contiguous virtual address space -- What solutions do you guys propose -- and what do you say about the following 1. turn on the 3gb switch to increase the virtual address space -- 2. instead of using one giant string object, break it up into smaller pieces and collect it in a jagged array (here I have to find a way to return to the caller in some other way as right now, the return type is a string) thanks SO

• Writing language converter in ANTLR

  I'm writing a converter between some dialects of the same programming language. I've found a grammar on the net - it's complex and handles all the cases. Now I'm trying to write the appropriate actions. Most of the input is just going to be rewritten to output. What I need to do is parse function calls, do my magic (rename function, reorder arguments, etc) and write it. I'm using AST as output. When I come across a function call, I build a custom object structure (from classes defined in my target language), call the appropriate function and I have a string that represents the transformed function that I want to get. The problem is, what I'm supposed to do with that string? I'd like to replace the .text attribute of the enclosing rule, but setText() is only available on lexer rules and the rule's .text attribute is read-only.   Hi, a linear linked list is a set of nodes. I would take the first element, iterate through the list until I get to a node that has no child and append the first element, I would repeat this for the second, third....
