  thanks for help, ended up with this html{ position:relative; min-width:950px; height:100%; background:black url(images/GrassBG.png) repeat-y top center; font:13px "Lucida Grande",Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif; } body.main{ width:950px; margin:0 auto; position:relative; } is there any way when using a div for a background image- to limit the height to only the content displayed? im putting the background image in a div because i want it centered via position:relative but the image doesnt show up unless i put a height on the div, and thats not what i want because i dont want to be able to just scroll down to the bottom of the image where theres no content ive tried putting the background image on the body css but if the browser is less than the width of the image, it just throws it over to the left and you can only see half of it- is there no way to make the background position:relative on the body? sorry if that doesnt make sense < thanks why can you not use Position:relative; on the body?

• Threading Practice with Polling.

  I have a C# application that has to constantly read from a program; sometimes there is a chance it will not find what it needs, which will throw an exception. This is a limitation of the program it has to read from. This frequently causes the program to lock up as it tries to poll. So I solved it by spawning the 'polling' off into a separate thread. However watching the debugger, the thread is created and destroyed each time. I am uncertain if this is typical or not; but my question is, is this good practice, or am I using the threading for the wrong purpose? • IO operation taking long time for files in remote server

  I have files of size 150 MB each in a remote server in a different domain in the network. I am accessing them thorugh UNC path. I want to read the file content and perform a basic string search. When I try reading the files line by line, the operation just don't finish and takes long time, more than 30 minutes. However when I copy those files to my local machine, the same code reads and performs the string search in less than 5 seconds. I don't have .NET framework installed in the server so I have to do this from my machine. I want to perform all this through C# code in .NET framework 3.5 so I don't want to explictly ftp all the files to my machine before performing this operation. • Output reformatted text within a file included in a JSP

  I have a few HTML files that I'd like to include via tags in my webapp. Within some of the files, I have pseudo-dynamic code - specially formatted bits of text that, at runtime, I'd like to be resolved to their respective bits of data in a MySQL table. For instance, the HTML file might include a line that says: Welcome, [username]. I want this resolved to (via a logged-in user's data): Welcome, [email protected]. This would be simple to do in a JSP file, but requirements dictate that the files will be created by people who know basic HTML, but not JSP. Simple text-tags like this should be easy enough for me to explain to them, however. I have the code set up to do resolutions like that for strings, but can anyone think of a way to do it across files? I don't actually need to modify the file on disk - just load the content, modify it, and output it w/in the containing JSP file. I've been playing around with trying to load the files into strings via the apache readFileToString, but I can't figure out how to load files from a specific folder within the webapp's content directory without hardcoding it in and having to worry about it breaking if I deploy to a different system in the future.

• N-son tabbed/JsScrollbar, trying to force gif play from click of link using jquery

  Hello everyone, Let me start off by stating the obvious; I am new here. That said I hope I am not violating some standard I missed by posting this. xD For several days now I've been trying to update a rather old site of mine, to which I wont link to given that the update is so drastic that the current product on which I seek your help for doesn't resemble the old site in any other way then appearance. Anywho! I am using the tabbed div and JsScrollbar created by N-son (http://www.downloadjavascripts.com/list/javasitek60/Details.aspx) and so far have only used jquery to dynamically center content on the page. My problem however is this...I have a gif on the page that acts as a background (it's not tiled) and I'd like to be able to have it so that when you click on one of the links used in n-sons tabs (EX: news) it also causes the gif to load and play through itself once. So far all my attempts at accomplishing this myself have failed and break wither the scrollbar or prevent the content from switching when you click the tabs. (Except for one failed attempt where it all worked fine except the handle for the scrollbar would vanish upon switching tabs) I hope I've been clear in this and that someone is able to help. I know it may seem like a silly question but we're all new at some point. :P If need be I'll upload what coding I have but it is not pretty. Thank you in advance.

• Umlaute from JSP-page are misinterpreted

  I'm getting Input from a JSP page, that can contain Umlaute. (e.g. Ä,Ö,Ü,ä,ö,ü,ß). Whenever an Umlaut is entered in the Input field an incorrect value gets passed on. e.g. If an "ä" (UTF-8:U+00E4) gets entered in the input field, the String that is extracted from the argument is "ä" (UTF-8: U+00C3 and U+00A4) It seems to me as if the UTF-8 hex encoding (which is c3 a4 for an "ä") gets used for the conversion. How can I retrieved the correct value? • Help me understand dynamic layouts in Sinatra

  Help me understand this; I'm learning Sinatra (and Rails for that matter, er, and Ruby). Say I'm doing a search app. The search form is laid out in one div, and the results will be laid out in another. The search form is rendered into the div by a previous view (maybe from a login form). I want to process the form params, perform the search, and render the results into the results div. If I have a single "yield" in the layout and render the divs from different views, the results div erases the search div when it renders. If I define the divs in the default layout, then just render the content, obviously the layout will be messed up: there would have to be two "yields" and I don't think Sinatra supports passing blocks in to yields. I tried foca's sinatra-content-for plugin, and that seems closer to what I need. But I can't figure out where to place the "yield_content" statements. If I have this haml in my layout: #search -# search form = yield_content :search #results -# search results = yield_content :results ... this in my search view: - content_for :search do %form{:method => "post"... etc. ... and this in the results view: - content_for :results do %table{:class => 'results'... etc. This sort of works but when I render the results view, the search div is emptied out. I would like to have it remain. Am I doing something wrong? How should I set this up?

• How to build a web crawler to find a specific advert, which is in an iframe loaded by Javascript

  I'm trying to find all instances of an advert on a website. The advert is in an iframe which is loaded by javascript (it doesn't appear at all if javascript is turned off). Detecting the advert itself is extremely simple, both the name of the flash file and the target of the href always contain a certain string. What would be the best "starting point" for achieving this? At the moment I'm considering an Adobe AIR app, which could crawl the site and examine the DOM to find the ad, and would run javascript and load the content of the iframe. The other option I can think of is using Firefox as the platform (using maybe GreaseMonkey or Selenium? I don't really know how to leverage Firefox like this). Does anyone know of anything suitable to build this, or have any suggestions on using Firefox to do it? Extra details: Being CPU intensive isn't really an issue, nor is anything depending on a browser being open. This doesn't need to run on a headless server, it will be running on a powerful desktop box. OS is also not an issue. It would be advantageous if the crawler loaded each page multiple times, as the advert is in rotation. While the crawler does need to execute the javascript and load the content of the iframe, it does not need to be able to display flash files.

• django - variable declared in base project does not appear in app

  I have a variable called STATIC_URL, declared in settings.py in my base project: STATIC_URL = '/site_media/static/' This is used, for example, in my site_base.html, which links to CSS files as follows: <link rel="stylesheet" href="{{ STATIC_URL }}css/site_tabs.css" /> I have a bunch of templates related to different apps which extend site_base.html, and when I look at them in my browser the CSS is linked correctly as <link rel="stylesheet" href="/site_media/static/css/site_tabs.css" /> (These came with a default pinax distribution.) I created a new app called 'courses' which lives in the ...../apps/courses folder. I have a view for one of the pages in courses called courseinstance.html which extends site_base.html just like the other ones. However, when this one renders in my browser it comes out as <link rel="stylesheet" href="css/site_tabs.css" /> as if STATIC_URL were equal to "" for this app. Do I have to make some sort of declaration to get my app to take on the same variable values as the project? I don't have a settings.py file for the app. by the way, the app is listed in my list of INSTALLED_APPS and it gets served up fine, just without the link to the CSS file (so the page looks funny).   Hey folks, every once in a while I have the need to automate data collection tasks from websites. Sometimes I need a bunch of URLs from a directory, sometimes I need an XML sitemap (yes, I know there is lots of software for that and online services). Anyways, as follow up to my previous question I've written a little webcrawler that can visit websites. Basic crawler class to easily and quickly interact with one website. Override "doAction(String URL, String content)" to process the content further (e.g. store it, parse it). Concept allows for multi-threading of crawlers. All class instances share processed and queued lists of links. Instead of keeping track of processed links and queued links within the object, a JDBC connection could be established to store links in a database. Currently limited to one website at a time, however, could be expanded upon by adding an externalLinks stack and adding to it as appropriate. JCrawler is intended to be used to quickly generate XML sitemaps or parse websites for your desired information. It's lightweight. • What does the JS function 'postMessage()' do when called on an html object tag?

  I was recently searching for a way to call the print function on a PDF I was displaying in adobe air. I solved this problem with a little help from this fellow, and by calling postMessage on my PDF like so: //this is the HTML I use to view my PDF <object id="PDFObj" data="test.pdf" type="application/pdf"/> ... //this actionscript lives in my air app var pdfObj:Object = htmlLoader.window.document.getElementById("PDFObj"); pdfObj.postMessage([message]); I've tried this in JavaScript as well, just to be sure it wasn't adobe sneaking in and helping me out... var obj = document.getElementById("PDFObj"); obj.postMessage([message]); Works well in JavaScript and in ActionScript. I looked up what the MDC had to say about postMessage, but all I found was window.postMessage. Now, the code works like a charm, and postMessage magically sends my message to my PDF's embedded JavaScript. However, I'm still not sure how I'm doing this. I found adobe talking about this method, but not really explaining it: HTML-PDF communication basics JavaScript in an HTML page can send a message to JavaScript in PDF content by calling the postMessage() method of the DOM object representing the PDF content. Any ideas how this is accomplished?

• Entity Framework - refresh objects from database

  I'm having trouble with refreshing objects in my database. I have an two PC's and two applications. On the first PC, there's an application which communicates with my database and adds some data to Measurements table. On my other PC, there's an application which retrives the latest Measurement under a timer, so it should retrive measurements added by the application on my first PC too. The problem is it doesn't. On my application start, it caches all the data from database and never get new data added. I use Refresh() method which works well when I change any of the cached data, but it doesn't refresh newly added data. • Reducing Time Complexity in Java

  Right, this is from an older exam which i'm using to prepare my own exam in january. Fairly sure it's O(n²), unless someone thinks otherwise? Can you reduce the time complexity, and if so, how? Well, you can. • Adding multiple rss feeds to a script in SCALA InfoChannel Designer 5

  Okay, since it is impossible to talk to anyone on the phone or get support through Scala's "forum", I am going to take a shot and see if anyone out there is feeling my pain. I have a client that uses Scala's InfoChannel Designer and Content Manager. I have had to learn this software from scratch and I have to say it hasn't been easy. I think I am at a point where the overall design is set, but I need to implement a couple of things before I can make this happen. RSS feeds are my issue at this point. Multiple RSS feeds to be specific. I need a feed coming in for 3 areas of content: Wiki News (or equivalent), local weather and a stock ticker. I have learned how to setup a "crawl" using a script example available from Scala's file center and copying and pasting into my design. But from what I have learned first hand and through reading through other forums, you can not have a feed from 3 different sources or urls happening simultaneously. Doesn't seem like it would be an issue, but apparently it is. This small step has held up this project for far too long and I need to get it figured out. This doesn't even touch on my issue of feeding in streaming video as a background but I have gone over this in another question but with no luck thus far. If there is ANYONE out there who is in anything similar using this software, your feedback and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks you for allowing me to vent!

• Why can't I wrap the ServletRequest when trying to capture JSP Output

  I am trying to dispatch in a servlet request handler to the JSP processor and capture the content of it. I am providing wrapper instances for the ServletRequest and ServletResponse, they implement the corresponding HTTPServletRequest/-Response interfaces, so they should be drop-in replacements. All methods are currently passed to the original Servlet Request object (I am planning to modify some of them soon). Additionally I have introduced some new methods. (If you want to see the code: http://code.google.com/p/gloudy/source/browse/trunk/gloudyPortal/src/java/org/gloudy/gloudlet/impl/RenderResponseImpl.java) The HttpServletResponse uses it's own output streams to capture the output. When I try to call request.getRequestDispatcher("/WEB-INF/views/test.jsp").include(request, response); With my request and response wrappers the method returns and no content has been captured. When I tried to pass the original request object it worked! But that's not what I need in the long run... request.getRequestDispatcher("/WEB-INF/views/test.jsp").include(request.getServletRequest(), response); This works. getservletRequest() returns the original Request, given by the servlet container. Does anyone know why this is not working with my wrappers?

• IE bug with TD's tables and whitespace?

  Hi there, I have a page that is using tables, in FF etc it works perfect, but in IE7 it causes issues, its basically where the four corners have a td and and img (its a rounded corner form) .. if i remove the whitespace from the document it fixes the issue.. What actually happens is that it messes up the tables.. it puts a thin white line between the upper tr that holds the 2 corners and the next tr I need to remove the the whitespace between the img and the TD, is there a better work around, as i have lots and not only that if i reformat the document the problem returns.. here is a simple example.. <table width="100%" height="418" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" bgcolor="#F04A23" style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px"> <tr> <td width="12" align="left" valign="top"> <img src="content/images/corner_left.gif" width="12" height="12" /> </td> as you can see there is white space between img and td... and i remove it so it looks like this <img src="content/images/corner_left.gif" width="12" height="12" /></td> the problem is gone, (notice the td and image are right next to each other) Any ideas, i tried setting all sorts of css, padding 0px, margins 0px etc ... Any ideas really appreciated

• What's a good plugin or guide I can use to create javascript widgets from a Rails App?

  I've been looking around for a while now and the best guide I've seen so far is Dr Nic's DIY widgets how to (here). I haven't been able to make something like this work: Assuming this is my widget code: <script src="http://mysite/nomnoms.js"> </script> And my nomnoms controller looks like (assume that the list partial exists and simply lists down a link to the show page of each nomnom in the @nomnoms variable): class NomnomsController < ApplicationController def index @nomnoms = Nomnom.find(:all) @content = render_to_string(:partial => 'list') end end And in the index.js of my nomnoms_controller I have: page << "document.write('<div>'" page << "document.write('#{@content.to_json}')" page << "</div>" The above setup doesn't render anything :(. But when I change the second line of index.js to: page << "document.write('nomnoms should be here') ...the widget renders the text. Any help or even a point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

• SWT TabFolder: Weird Drawing Behaviour

  Hello StackOverflow Experts Description I have an SWT Page with a TabFolder with a number of dynamically created TabItems. On each TabItem i crate a Composite and set the TabItem.setControl() to the Composite. I then use this Composite as the page on which i draw my items. I draw a set of Controls, including Textbox's and Labels. For the First, Default Tab, this works fine. No problems. Problem On tabs that is not the first tab i have the following problems: I am unable to visually alter then Edited/Enabled state of my Controls. I am unable to visually set the Text content of my elements My Controls look disabled and have a Greyed out look. But i am able to Select the content with my mouse and use CTRL+C to copy it out. So the text contet is there and they are Editable. Visually it is just not updated. Any comments are appeciated, Any requests for code, examples will be supplied and help Welcommed. Updates I tried added the suggest debug loop to the code, where i attempt to enable my Controls.
