    In WebLogic 11.1.1.1 the boot.properties file was stored in the $MW_HOME/user_projects/domains/[domain] directory. It would be read at startup and there would be no requirement to enter username and password. In later releases the location has changed to $MW_HOME/user_projects/domains/[domain]/servers/[managed_server]/security In most instances you will need to create the security directory If you want to specify a custom directory add the following to the startup scripts for the server. -Dweblogic.system.BootIdentityFile=[loc]/boot.properties create a boot.properties file using the following entry username=<adminuser> password=<password>

  • Cycles through black screen on login after changing password

    On my laptop, I forgot the password to my Ubuntu partition, so I logged into the root command shell on the recovery start up option in GRUB so that I could change the password. On my first attempt to change my user password, I got this error: root@username-PC:~# passwd username (*not my actual user name*) Enter new UNIX password: Retype new UNIX password: passwd: Authentication token manipulation error passwd: password unchanged After doing some research, I discovered that I was stuck as read only on the file system, so I ran the following command to remount the file partition as read/write: mount -rw -o remount / Afterwards, I change my user password using passwd and it was changed successfully. I restarted my laptop and tried to login using the new password but the only thing that happened was after entering my password it flashed to a black screen with some text that I couldn't make out except for "Ubuntu 12.04" then another black screen half a second later, and finally back to the login screen. Repeated attempts to login results in only this action.

    The Apache instalation of MacOSX is running Ok. I have tried to create a VirtualHost called test.local, but as soon as I uncomment from /private/etc/apache2/httpd.conf the line Include /private/etc/apache2/extra/httpd-vhosts.conf , and try to access test.local virtualhost I get an error "You don't have permission to access / on this server".     I am a little confused on the proper fstab entry for a samba share in Ubuntu 12.04 I can get the drive to mount manually by using: sudo mount -t cifs //192.168.2.2/raid_drive /mnt/homeserver -o username=jon,password=password So I tried putting this in fstab: //192.168.2.2/raid_drive /mnt/homeserver cifs username=jon,password=password,iocharset=utf8,mode=0777,dir_mode=07??77 0 0 Which gives me this error in syslog: kernel: [ 2217.925354] CIFS: Unknown mount option mode kernel: [ 2217.936345] CIFS VFS: default security mechanism requested. The default security mechanism will be upgraded from ntlm to ntlmv2 in kernel release 3.3 This guide says to use smbfs although I believe smbfs is deprecated? What is a common fstab configuration for a samba share in Ubuntu 12.04? EDIT: Using the accepted answer below I was initially getting this error message (from dmesg): [ 45.520883] CIFS VFS: Error connecting to socket. Aborting operation [ 45.520990] CIFS VFS: cifs_mount failed w/return code = -115 although it turns out this was due to network connectivity issues, and not related to improper fstab entry.

  • How do I reset my Ubuntu 12.10 password?

    So my sister gave me this old laptop that has Ubuntu 12.10. The problem is that she has a username administrator password, but she forgot it. I've tried using GRUB and launching recovery mode and using the root shell prompt. And I type the "passwd username" command, and it tells me to type the new UNIX password, but when I try to type a new password it's like my keyboard doesn't even work. It types nothing. What's the problem? Why does my keyboard not type anything when I try to reset the UNIX password? It always works perfectly fine. I'm grateful for any help, thank you.

    In my new web app I'm going to allow social login through Twitter (maybe), Facebook and Google and I'm in search of the best way to do it. Actually I'm using Rails with Devise + Omniauth and this is the problem: Should I ask the user to choose a password so that he can login without a social network? Or maybe the user should be able to set a password if he want (for example when editing his account?) The second way seems the best one but since Twitter doesn't provide user email and google doesn't provide an username I'll probably have to ask the user for username/email when he log in so in that case I may also ask for the password... waht do you think?

  • Can't Enter Password in Recovery Mode

    When I go into recovery mode to get to the command line, I enter "telinit 3" to drop out of root. This works on my desktop, but on my laptop it asks for my username and password, then I hit enter and the first letter of my password appears and it doesn't log me in. It then proceeds to ask me for my username and password again, and the issue continues. Am I doing something wrong? Is this a known issue with a solution? EDIT: Worked around this by going into /etc/default/grub and setting it to boot in text mode. Still would like a solution for this though.

    I'm not sure the term even exists, so let me explain what I mean by "session based authentication" through some pseudo-code: void PerformLogin(string userName, string password) { if(AreValidCredentials(userName, password)) { Session.Set("IsAuthenticated", true); } else { Message.Show("Invalid credentials!"); } } So the above method simply verifies the provided credentials are valid and then sets a session flag to indicate that the session user is authenticated. Under plain HTTP that is obviously unsafe, because anyone could hijack the session cookie/querystring and breach security. However, under HTTPS the session cookie/querystring is protected because client-server communication is encrypted, so I believe this authentication approach would be safe, wouldn't it? I'm asking this because I want to know how authentication tickets can improve web applications security. Thanks in advance!

    so I'm a bit overwhelmed/bewildered by the whole concept of networking/remote-desktop , etc. The context is that - in my company I need to access a remote database. The standard way I use is to first connect using a VPN-Client( called Shrew Soft Access manager), then once that says: "network device configured tunnel enabled" I'm good to connect using windows "Remote Desktop Connection" . But now our company set up an Amazon AWS database, and I'm told I need to connect, and I ony need to use RDP. So I tried the standard windows one - but it doesn't work. On wikipedia , I looked up remote desktop sftware and downloaded one called VNC Viewer. but it doesn't work. Any advice/tips/comments appreciated EDIT: YAYA! I finally got a little more connected .     I have my personal folders to a different partition other than home, I had a series of symlinks in my home folder pointing to the folders on the other partition. This was causing multiple entries in Dash search do I modified my ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs file pointing them to the folders on the second partition. The issue is that when I search for any one of these folders in Dash, I still get two entries, one pointing the folder and another that points to the /home/username/Documents folder. If I click on this link I get a Could not find /home/username/Documents error. Why is this and how do I delete these entries from Dash's records? If deleting records is not possible, is there a way to "reindex" the dash search database?

On my server I installed nfs-kernel-server and edited the /etc/exports file to include the folder I want to share: /var *(rw,sync) On my client machine I edited my fstab file to include share: //128.251.xxx.xxx/var/ ~/uslonsweb003 nfs #username=[username],password=[password], 0 0 Entered command: sudo mount -a which gives this error: mount.nfs: remote share not in 'host:dir' format Where did I go wrong with this setup? Also if there is a better way (using command line) to setup a folder share on an Ubuntu 10.10 server that will be accessed by other linux and windows machines please let me know. UPDATE: The mapped drive is now not letting me create,edit,delete files or folders (readonly access) my configuration is as follows: client fstab file: 128.251.xxx.xxx:/var /home/coreyf/uslonsweb003 nfs rw,hard,intr, 0 0 server exports file: /var *(rw,no_root_squash,sync,no_subtree_check) UPDATE 2: Using Allans solution my drive mounted correctly however after putting rw,intr as my additional parameters I cannot create, edit and delete folders/files.

I can find and connect to my wireless networkbut when I make Dsl connection in ubuntu 12.04LTS and I put the username and password I couldn't connect..     I have an IP address, port, username, and password for one of those VPN / proxy services that allows you to use an IP address other than what your ISP gives you, but in the 'Edit Connections VPN' GUI I don't see where to enter a port. I enter the IP address under 'Gateway' and the username and password where it asks for it, but it doesn't work. I try to enter it with the IP address ending with a colon, followed by the port, but that doesn't work either (e.g. "1.1.1.1:9999"). Any idea how I could make it work? I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.   • Enabling/disabling proftpd accounts with PHP and WHM

    I have a VPS with WHM/CPanel which is being used just by me. It's utilizing proftpd. I'd like to, via a PHP script, disable/enable a specific FTP account. I've done this by having PHP call a bash script which removes/adds the user account line to /etc/proftpd/USERNAME password file. However, in order to do this I have to give other write rights to /etc/proftpd/USERNAME. This isn't ideal, and I'd be willing to do it another way. It also seems like WHM is automatically resetting these permissions on a regular basis. Does anybody have any ideas on a better way to deal with this?

They have some code about saving app data like so: private void NameInput_TextChanged(object sender, TextChangedEventArgs e) { Windows.Storage.ApplicationDataContainer roamingSettings = Windows.Storage.ApplicationData.Current.RoamingSettings; roamingSettings.Values["userName"] = nameInput.Text; } I have worked with C# in the past and found that things like using constant string values (like "userName" in this case) for keys could get messy because auto-complete did not work and it was easy to forget if I had made an entry for a setting before and what it was called. So if I don't touch code for awhile I end up accidentally creating multiple entries for the same value that are named slightly differently. Surely there is a better way to keep track of the strings that key to those values. What is a good solution to this problem?

    I've been going through and pouring over resource for the past few hours and I cannot get my box to connect to my friends network drive. My friend doesn't use linux, but he's setup the network share like this: DPR:\\name\images and he's given me the username and password which I've verified is correct. It is located on 192.168.0.2 sudo mount -t cifs -o username=***,password=*** //name/images /media/name/ sudo mount.cifs //192.168.0.2/name/images /media/name/ -o credentials=~/name.credentials (I've confirmed that ~/name.credentials does have the correct credentials as well) Regardless of what I attempt I get mount error(13): Permission denied Refer to the mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g. man mount.cifs) I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, but it's probably really simple and stupid. Thanks to any/all in advance. EDIT: I don't know if this helps, but I'm running Ubuntu 14.04.

  • Are two database trips reasonable for a login system?

    I am designing a login system for a project, and have an issue about it requiring two trips to the database when a user logs in. User types in username and password Database is polled and password hash is retrieved for comparative purposes (first trip) Code tests hash against entered password (and salt), and if verified, resets the session ID New session ID and username are sent back to the database to write a row to the login table, and generate a login ID for that session. EDIT: I am using a random salt. Does this design make sense? Am I missing something? Is my concern about two trips unfounded? Comments and suggestions are welcome.
